17 FiDi Lunch Spots Under $20

"Well on its way to becoming a national chain, local upstart Tacombi serves quick, quality Mexican fare that nods to the Yucatán Peninsula. Its fried fish burrito — loaded with beans, poblano mayo, and crispy, beer-battered cod — is one of the best ways to spend $15 in FiDi." - Eater Staff

Great food and amazing staff! The Baja Crispy Fish Tacos were bomb, and the Guac & Chips are a must. We also got the pitcher of Margarita and it was perfect. Rodrigo who was our waiter was absolutely amazing, we are definitely coming back!

Google
Authentic, fresh, flavorful Mexican food in a modern yet spartan setting. Menu is brief, place is crowded - a great indication that all the food options are fresh. Went with the fish tacos and shrimp tacos - superbly executed. Just the right amount of filling, super flavorful, presented in an appetizing way. Ability to split a table into individual payments was a bonus convenience - avoiding the need to Venmo / Zelle when out for a lunch with colleagues.

Google
It was a decent experience overall. Had a burrito and couple of tacos. It tasted alright. Had higher expectations from the place. Chips and guacamole was really nice though. You can try it out atleast once

Google
Francisco was the best! Great service, fabulous suggestions (definitely go birria), and a delicious classic marg with fun conversation and the green salsa to write home about. Stop by! Tip well. Eat amazing food here.

Google
Very nice place for tacos & authentic Mexican street fare in the heart of the financial district. There's some covered outdoor seating and a large amount of seating indoors. We tried the seared fish taco and the shrimp & cheese taco, which were good, and the beer batter fish tacos which were very good. Was hoping there would be more variety of hot sauces. There are happy hour drink specials from 4 - 7 PM which is a great time to go. Will go back to try other items.

The Baja Crispy Fish tacos are the best our favorite! Do yourself a favor and order these ones. We also had Al Pastor Tacos which they are good too. Tortillas are super fresh and always delicious! Totally recommend eating on any of their locations they are always consistent. The staff is friendly and is also very clean!

Google
If you’ve eaten here and liked it, I can only imagine you’ve never stepped foot in Mexico or California. The portions are ridiculously small yet expensive. There is no flavor whatsoever. The “quesadilla” is literally a piece of tortilla (open faced) with less than a pinch of cheese on top. I did enjoy the drinks and the chips and guacamole were reasonable, so 3 stars overall. Do not eat anything unless you want to be disappointed. Better to fly to Mexico for the evening than eat here.

Google
We were warmly greeted by the hostess and bartender Calli. Our server got water to the table promptly which was appreciated on this hot day! Food and drinks were perfect and the other manager Maribel came by to be sure everything was great! Couldn’t ask for a better lunch experience!

Yelp
After getting to my hotel at the Hilton DoubleTree downtown in the financial district, I was looking for a quick bite to eat on a Wednesday evening around 8:30 P.M. Not many restaurants are open that late in the Financial District, but Tacombi was one of the restaurants open! There were so many great review on Yelp that I just had to try it out! Tacombi in FiDi is located on Broad street. The current hours are from 11:00 A.M to 11:00 P.M Monday - Sunday. When I had arrived around 8:30, the restaurant was busy! I asked the team member at the Tacombi entrance if I could place an order to go! Looking through Tacombi's menu There are a wide range of options from Tacos Quesadillas Burritos Entradas: Corn Esquites, Rice & Beans, Guacamole and more! I ended up getting [2] Tacos to go Ribeye Deluxe Taco: Thinly sliced Ribeye. Service with Avocado Tomatillo salsa, onions, and jalapenos. Al Pastor: Pork thinly sliced, cilantro, diced onions and pineapple I waited about 15 minutes for my order which wasn't too bad considering how busy it was inside the restaurant! Once my order was ready, the team members at Tacombi provided a to-go bag with napkins inside! Each Taco was put in a individual box, which was really nice! The first taco I ended up eating was the Ribeye Taco! It was delicious! The Ribeye was tender and juicy! The tomatillo salsa was a perfect addition and it wasn't too spicy either! The Al Pastor Taco was really good too. The pork was marinated in a special chilies and spices. It was quite flavorful! The Pineapple was fresh and juicy! The additional ingredients such as the cilantro and the diced onions blended well with the Al Pastor Taco. I plan on going back to Tacombi again the next time I'm in NYC for their Ribeye Taco again. It was scrumptious and one of my favorite items that I've had in the Financial District so far!

Yelp
I ordered a catered lunch and my colleague found a stapler in her bite. The portions were so small for the team and honestly I was happy only 1/2 the staff showed up. It was $600 for like food for Maybe 10 people realistically. The steak was boiled, the chicken was dry and the pork was dry too... order lunch elsewhere Also the delivery guy had us wait 15 mins for Him

Yelp
I had an hour to kill between 7:45 and 8:45 and this was the place to be. I stopped by for a quick meal for one and the service was top notch. The entire experience reminded me of authentic Mexico City and I felt like I somehow took a flight to the heart of Mexico City in minutes. Esquites - 8/10 Avocado Tostada - 10/10 (ordered 2x) Black Bean Taco - 6/10 ( I personally do not like black beans or sweet potato) Churros - 6/10

Yelp
This place was great! Service was absolutely amazing, some of the friendliest staff in the city. And the vibe here is great with dim lighting and vast seating choices. It's also very spacious. We only came here for a little snack but the menu options all sounded good. Got the house marg, chips and quac, and the Al pastor taco. The taco was one of the best el pastor tacos I've ever had and the tortillas are great. Along with that, the chips are so crunchy and have a nice thickness to them. Alongside their perfectly crafted guacamole it's such a good pairing! Definitely will try to come back soon and highly recommend!

Yelp
The fish tacos were absolutely delicious! They were flavorful, and crispy, but tender inside. The birria tacos are very good as well. I did not like the grill fish tacos because they were very dry!

Yelp
El Califa de León Collab was questionable. Not understanding the slice meat on tortilla .. Guac n Chips was simple and good.
google avatar

Nicole K.

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner around 7:30pm and was able to walk in without a reservation. This was my first time at this location but all the locations give off the same vibe. I got a classic margarita (originally wanted frozen but wasn't available), 2 beef birria tacos and shared the chips and guac. The meal comes with two salsas (no free chips given and made to be used with your tacos). I enjoyed my beef birria tacos but wished the outer tortilla were crispier. Also, the broth cup was tiny so it was hard to dip my taco in it. It's a good low key Mexican spot during the weekday. I'm sure it gets pretty busy during the weekends.

Yelp
Tacombi delivered an incredible dining experience! Their cooking satisfies taste expectations with freshness and healthfulness. They demonstrate their focus clearly. The service provided shows remarkable consistency. This restaurant is a favorite and I recommend it often!

Yelp
We loved this place. The food, the drinks, and the service. The menu had enough variety to satisfy even the vegan and vegetarian in our group. We found this place quite by accident and were thrilled to learn they have multiple locations. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I absolutely hate writing bad reviews. The taco collab is a disaster. Califa de Leon should take their name off of this menu so people don't unfairly associate them with what happened here. The featured tacos are seasonless, tasteless, and a complete disappointment. Just got to Califa de Leon, seriously. I've eaten a lot of tacos all over the world. Believe me when I say that these were the absolute worst. No hyperbole, they were the worst I've ever had. One bite, I spit them out, and we asked for the check. I know Califa de Leon taught the kitchen to make these, but they need to be re-trained. I'd suggest CdL sends an anonymous taster and see where it's gone wrong. Drinks weren't good at all. Agua de Sanīa missed the mark by a mile. Overly sweet and can't taste the alcohol at all. They could improve the drink my adding agave sugar around the rim instead of into the drink.

Yelp
I can't believe after four years this place however finally we did it. I'm so glad. The ambiance inside is much nicer than I thought. There is plenty of seating inside and on the tables a cute little candle to bring some calming experience. The menu has a limited set of options however, what we tried was delicious. I would recommend the Birria tacos and the fish tacos. He also tried the Birria Ramen, which I would say was quite disappointing, compared to the rest of the food, especially at that price point. Flavor felt lacking, compared to the tacos themselves. The sites are delicious the rice and beans and corn. One I have is that the tortilla chips cannot be ordered separately (I have an avocado allergy) from the guacamole which was surprising. The first time we had gone the waiter had been accommodating however the second time they had declined the request. Food is tasty definitely solid meal, especially on the Tuesday special. Interesting to see things will go given new taco places are opening in the area.

Yelp
For the life of me, I can't believe anyone would give this restaurant any reviews. I went here for a free lunch sponsored by this group. I'm with. It was the worst tacos I've ever had in my life. The tortillas lacked flavor. The filling was all right, but there was so little. The drinks were water with food coloring. I mean, I don't know what they used to color it, but they had no taste. Even the ones with sugar I ordered the pineapple it didn't taste like pineapple at all. It tasted like water with some sugar to not eat here you're wasting your money. This restaurant should permanently close. It would not be a loss to the Food community. Waite staff was amazing. Hurry up and run don't even think of this place. Oh my God worst food ever. OK, I'm spoiled by last tacos number 1/14 in the country number one in New York City. Don't waste your time on this place go to Whole Foods and even eat. I was able to get in with my motorized wheelchair. I did not try to navigate to find out their bathroom with ADA accessible. I just use the bathroom at Whole Foods. Which is across the street.

Yelp
Excellent sweet potato and bean taco. I hate corn tortillas, but they made me love them! Wow. I also had a fish taco, but it didn't stand up to the vegetarian one. Cute place. Good service.

Yelp
Okay so honest review- Let's start off by saying I LOVE tacos so I'm always willing to trying new spots. Out of my overall experience, I give this place a 5 out of 10. I had a fish taco. It came with onions, cilantro, tomato's and some house made salsa verde. I also had a couple of Al pastor tacos which were okay. I wanted to love them but I found them to just be o.k. My friend got a shrimp taco, chicken taco, fish taco with all the toppings on the side. He enjoyed it and was able to add stuff to try if he likes it. I also got the avacado tostada - I didn't like that you couldn't add meat to it. You literally had to purchase a taco and take the meat off of it to add to the tostada yourself-boooooo!!! One thing I wasn't really happy about is there is NO SOUR CREAM. None! They have none lol I was so shocked! Lastly, I ordered a spicy margarita which wasn't a fan of. It tasted as if I was drinking a bottle of hot sauce. I can see someone else liking it, just not me. The server was really nice. The place itself was cute. Overall, I found this place to be alright.

Yelp
If you're visiting the Statue of Liberty, this was a great little spot away from crowds. My family (myself, wife, 2 yr old, 9 mo old) decided to take a day trip on the ferry, ended up going to FiDi to take a peek at the SoL. It was a hot Sunday, and super packed. All the places along Broadway down to the ferry terminals was packed. Considering that we had 2 strollers with us, we wanted a place to sit and with a little room. Found Tacombi about 5 minutes away from the Bull. Place is open and airy. We were seated right away. Menu is what you expect from a taco chain - tacos, quesadillas, burritos. Small kids menu. Charging table in one of the bathrooms. I got the fish burrito, really good. Note that quesadillas from here are open faced, not the 2 tortilla patty we expected. The kids menu, as mentioned, isn't large - rice and beans (which is a little spicy), quesadilla, I forget what else. There seemed to be more drink Options than food options. (The house IPA was great!). All in all, to get away from the crowds and enjoy a meal as a family, Tacombi is a winner

Yelp
I was surprised by how slow the service was at this location. I've been to other Tacombi locations across NYC and Long Island but this one had us waiting for our tacos for at least 50 minutes. We also ordered a burrito that came after. The place wasn't packed and there was no wait to get in. We did visit the weekend El Califa de Leon tacos were featured on the menu temporarily and it felt like everyone was waiting for a long time for their food. The special featured tacos were ok, nothing spectacular. I would stick with their original menu that has fish, steak and shrimp tacos.

Yelp
Had wanted to try Tacombi for a while and finally made a pickup order via Seamless. We ordered a Baja Crispy Fish Plato, an Al Pastor Plato and a Guacamole Con Totopos. Overall, a little disappointed starting with that we had ordered a side of guacamole that they failed to pack and was missing from our order. The fish was pretty good but perhaps would have been a little more crispy eaten at the restaurant and the pork turned out a little dry. The guacamole and chips were not bad. If we were to give them another try, perhaps would eat there instead of takeout.

Yelp
Recommended. So yes, this is a chain with several locations in the city. However, they do a really nice job. I've visited two locations now and both served great food with speedy service. Expect delicious, simple guacamole, traditional tacos, and several varieties of their own taco sauce. There's also a menu of interesting cocktails and unique soft drinks. If you visit the location in FiDi, the dining room is designed to look like it's outside. I'm a sucker for that kind of thing.

Yelp
The elotes (corn) was awesome. Very tasty. The tacos were ok. Very quick service, with plenty of seating.

Yelp
Good experience and they are very nice people and the food was delicious and the juice was so good and cold.

Yelp
Tacombi is my favorite taco spot. The Sandia Santa and chicken quesadilla have magical powers that can turn your day around, trust me. I've been to other Tacombis in NYC, but this Fidi location is my favorite because of the vibes, amazing staff, and great food. The staff is also SO efficient, like you will never be sitting around waiting for your food. Everything comes out hot fresh and tasty. Definitely come on a Tuesday because it's taco Tuesday 2 for 1 tacos Juan and Jesus (with the glasses) make a mean mezcal mule so enjoy!!!!
google avatar

Cam S.

Yelp
The fish taco was stellar, but I was underwhelmed by everything else. I didn't particularly like the tacos al pastor - very dry. Tacombi is a "seat yourself" vibe, not a full service type of place, which is great for a taco joint IMO.
google avatar

Camille M.

Yelp
Very casual taco spot! Their fish tacos are really good better than the steak. Spicy margarita is really good too as well as the elote! Easy neighborhood eats

Yelp
i used to come here way more often last year but stopped coming because the price ($7 for a taco?!?!?!) but decided to stop by for happy hour after work. the first time we came we got 3 carne asada tacos, 1 al pastor taco, 2 esquites, and small chips n guac. granted we have not been able to find a place that makes esquites quite like them so we always order that, but the tacos were such a disappointment truly the saddest plate of tacos i have ever seen with 7 pieces of burnt meat per taco. san diego (tacos el gordo) would never do this to me i usually dont even really crave mexican food and this just made me not crave/like it more! the service was okay, not very attentive, had to wave down the waiter for anything. the social team reached out to me as they saw my post on instagram about my experience and the managing partner got in touch with me. she invited us back to have a better experience (which we did) and was super kind about the whole situation! she even stated that the portions we received were unacceptable and could not even defend them. she made me want to come back! that time we ordered the crispy fish taco, shrimp taco, birria tacos and ofc esquites! the portions for these tacos were MUCH better and up the standard that i am used to on the west coast! one thing that was odd and made my experience not the greatest was towards the end, the manager (not the managing partner) came up to us to ask us how everything was then proceeded to ask about our last experience there and when i said that the portions and quality were underwhelming in comparison to what were used to / have had there before he started to get really defensive stating that i dont know what authentic tacos taste/look like. i then said that i am just stating my experience from the mexican food ive had before and what im used to. and he continued to mansplain AUTHENTIC mexican tacos when i literally told him ive had mexican tacos from san diego. he kept saying that the tacos im used to are "tex-mex" tacos.... where did i say tex-mex.... literally said im from the west coast right on top of mexico. overall if the manager (male, bigger build with glasses) did NOT come up to us and try to mansplain tacos to me i would definitely come back but now i am hesitant. but THANK YOU CALLI FOR INVITING US BACK !!!!!

Yelp
I loathe writing negative reviews, but $6.98 before tax for 1 beer battered fish taco had my 50% Mexican blood in a crippling depression. Wasn't even a big taco either, like a normal sized taco. My men's league basketball team, The Amplitude Quaaludes, came in here riding an all time high dopamine run as we just improved to 2-0 after THRASHING the "Sun Blocks." I played the best game of my life as well, felt like I was Air Bud out there tbh. I thought nothing could take this feeling of pure exaltation away, but this $7 taco did the trick. I don't know, I'm not mad I'm just disappointed. I get it's NYC and that rental payments and input costs are only rising, but $6.98 before tax for a taco just goes against the spirit of tacos as a whole. I will be fair, the rice and beans was priced NYC fair at $4.78 for a delicious portion of spanish rice and black beans. Even as I am wrapping this review up, I am debating posting it because I feel bad. Enough people write negative reviews without ever writing good ones. But that taco pricing felt like Leon Edwards kicking me in the head. RIP AIR BUD. GONE TOO SOON. DON'T WORRY I WON'T LET THEM FORGET! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Yelp
Solid spot for tacos. I think they do tacos well but their prices are definitely on the high end. I usually get birria tacos (beef) here with their consume. I wish the cup it came with is wider so the dip can be easier haha. One time I had their sinaloa shrimp taco but the avocado on the taco didn't seem ripe enough. Love that they have cocktails to go (don't be fooled by the term "happy hour" - the prices are still hovering around $14). Overall, solid spot and open for long hours (considering neighborhood). Large area and plenty of seats but definitely hope the AC or fan can be cooler in the summer since it's an open space sorta spot.

M B.

Yelp
Incredible - incredible food, timely service, delicious food, cool ambiance (bathrooms great for mirror selfies) , and... have I mentioned the food?! SO good. Highly recommend. I had the luxury of living in the south & having easy access to fantastic authentic Mexican food. Moving up North made me miss good Mexican food, but this place really hits the spot. Extra shoutout to great staff.
google avatar

M T.

Yelp
We stopped in late on a Saturday night and sat down right away. We ordered an al pastor burrito and some fish tacos. The food wasn't bad and hit the spot, but it doesn't compare to a mom-and-pop food truck. High prices for what you get. The service was good and easy to order. If you want great tacos, go to Tacos El Bronco in Brooklyn at 38th Street and 5 ave.
google avatar

Bell A.

Yelp
I love Tacombi! Being in the financial district, very few restaurants are open late especially on the weekends. Tacombi was open and serving up delicious food. First night I went, I order esquites, chips & guac, a chicken taco and beef birria tacos. Baybeeeee the beef birria did not disappoint. And neither did the rest of my meal. My watermelon marg was meh as far as alcohol content but all good. My server was excellent. Second night I went back for more guac and birria. Only thing I didn't care for is that be establishment isn't air conditioned. There's fans and one large AC unit but you can't feel the cool unless you stand next to it. There's covered outdoor seating so I opted for that. World recommend and return.

Craig C.

Yelp
Go to Los Tacos or El Toro, both about one block away. Much better food and much less expensive. Management is nicer at both places as well. Tacombi manager kicked me and my 4 year old son out of the restaurant after we were there for more than 10 minutes because they noticed my son had a box apple juice and I had an iced coffee... this was highly stressful for my son especially since they embarrassed us in front of other customers
google avatar

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Good packaging and okay service. The food tasted good and ingredients were fresh. Had three tacos - Al pastor, carne asada, and fish taco

Cristina C.

Yelp
Some of the most delicious tacos in NYC! You have to try them all and drink with a Mexican coke in the glass bottle. Clean and good service!
google avatar

Nate L.

Yelp
Amazing tacos and great service. Definitely come here for their happy hour on Tuesday to also take advantage of their BOGO special.
google avatar

Drew O.

Yelp
Hugely disappointed in this Tacombi. The birria had about four shreds of meat total for two tacos and the tortillas were soggy. The beef consommé was flavorless. The elote was good. The guacamole needed seasoning but the chips were good. My partner said the sweet potato taco was good. $74.21 for the meal. We won't be back.
google avatar

Jackie S.

Yelp
Came around 8pm on a Wednesday night. It wasn't busy at all. Here's the thing about Tacombi, portions are small so you're better off ordering a bunch of different things and trying them all. I had the beef quesadilla. It was small but it was definitely quality. The menu isn't big but whatever options they have, they do well. It's also an open kitchen so it's nice to see food being prepared right in front of you.
google avatar

Michelle ..

Yelp
Can't go wrong with this place. We popped in on a Saturday afternoon, ordered right away and our food came quick. Tacos and quesadillas were great!! Service could've been better. Great music and just a good vibe overall.
google avatar

Rafael S.

Yelp
Service = adequate Food = adequate Chairs = horrible. I get that you are aiming for a hip take on a down market taqueria, but were folding chairs really necessary? Are you trying to turn tables and prevent folks from lingering by seating, everyone uncomfortably? This is a design blunder that could easily be fixed.
google avatar

Monique W.

Yelp
This was a great taco shop with straight forward menu. All the tacos I had were good. I do wish the birria was cheesier. I would recommend the Sandia Santa cocktail (tequila, watermelon, lime, and agave)
google avatar

Victoria L.

Yelp
Went to grab drinks and bites after work with colleagues. One made a reservation for 6, and I 4. They let us combine our group of 10 using adjoining space which was super kind of them. I'm not typically a watermelon person but wanted to try something refreshing and the cocktail gave me what I was seeking. Would have liked it if the guac had jalapeno (topped it with some hot sauce lol) but it was fresh. Buen Provecho!
google avatar

Lu H.

Yelp
Solid lunch spot. Stand outs are Baja crispy fish tacos and carnitas tacos. I really liked the fish tacos, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with just the right amount of sauce. Minus one star because the Al Pastor taco was a complete disaster - pork was extremely tough and dry, borderline inedible. Would still come back for the fish tacos!
google avatar

Sally K.

Yelp
Very fun spot! Everyone is super friendly. Manager Kelly was very accommodating. Love the tacos! Highly recommend !
google avatar

Andrea P.

Yelp
I love Tacombi and visit often! The space is casual, welcoming, and fun. The service is friendly and my food always arrives very quickly because you place your order on a sheet of paper which eliminates a lot of the back and forth with the server. The food and margaritas are excellent and their prices are extremely reasonable! I generally order chicken tacos and elote and the quality is consistent so I keep coming back! I love that they're open late and on weekends which is uncommon for FiDi. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Scott R.

Yelp
I ordered the Carne Asada taco to go. Dry with literally 2 small pieces of pepper and one tiny scrap of onion. The corn is okish with a spicy sauce but absolutely nothing special Would not return
google avatar

Jared S.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cute little taco spot the other night. I ordered three delicious tacos (carne asada, crispy Baja fish and an al pastor) that all hit the spot. The outdoor section was perfect for our rowdy group of 6. While this was my first time here, I'll definitely be coming back to get my late evening taco fix!
google avatar

Jacklyn L.

Yelp
Overall great vibes. Came around 10 pm on a Saturday night. Tacos were all very delicious. We got the the chicken, carnitas, carne asada, and Al pastor tacos. The chicken taco was slightly dry. The corne esquites was very flavorful and roasted to perfection. The servers were very attentive in getting our orders, waters, and checking in with us. Food came out really fast.
google avatar

Barbara C.

Yelp
The location is on Broad street in the Bowling Green Area. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The menu has breakfast and lunch Tacos Quesadillas and so much more. I had the Carnes Taco and a chicken Taco. They were delicious and filling. The food was fresh and hot off the grill. The service was excellent and I would definitely go back
google avatar

Cole D.

Yelp
My dad and I got three tacos and burrito with chips and Guac and we were stuffed! Great place. We got a fish taco and a adobata burrito. All great. Nice service. Great to eat outside. Great chain all around NYC.

Aikeem V.

Yelp
This place is really good. Was working late on a week day and needed to grab dinner and seen this place was open later than most places and they had esquites, I'm used to calling that elote!! Tomato, to-mato... either way they were very good. Best I've had so far in Manhattan. I received my takeout relatively fast approx 10-15 minutes. They had multiple dine-in tables being occupied. The tacos were beyond good. The sweet potato and black bean I expected to be good. But the crispy taco was the sleeper. I wish I've known it was gonna be that good. I might of bought two instead of one. I know for next time! Crispy fish taco and elote de vaso!

Manuel V.

Yelp
The worst tacos I've ever had. Came on a trip from VA and had high expectations but was let down, tortillas were cold, meat flavorless, and way overpriced. $7 per taco is outrageous
