Tacos El Charly

I love this place I have been going there since they were at that small place on darrington, they are local owners and very friendly. The food is the best tacos I’ve had I don’t go anywhere else anymore, i don’t crave tacos I crave Charly’s. The barbacoa is the best that’s why it always run out early. The menudo is the best in the area to be honest, and they support other local owners like the panaderia that’s why the bread with butter is so good. The place says available but they are still running and there’s construction going on but you can still get there. I don’t mind all that for the best tacos in 50 miles.

UPDATE 11/20/24. SEEMS THIS BUSINESS CLOSED PERMANENTLY. THE BUILDING HAS SIGNS AS "AVAILABLE" OR "FOR LEASE". I HAVENT SEEN ANY ACTIVITY FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW. First time trying out this place. I am a relatively new horizon resident(1 1/2yrs) and we've been looking into local options for restaurants. I came to this place because of the good reviews. My rating would be 3 1/2 stars but since I cant do that I selected 3 stars Now that I have tried it I can say it is good, not perfect but with potential to be better. Good enough to return and give it another try. I had tacos de asada and my wife had tacos de Buche, my kids had 2 tacos with baked potato. All plates were described to include cebollitas but they werent served to us. When I asked, server indicated that they are included but they dont serve them because they dont want to waste food so they dont serve them unless we ask for them. Nothing wrong with not wasting food however it's a lack of communication from the waitress to the customer. The server should have asked the customer instead of assuming the customer knew. Also your tacos will come with very limited fixings.. what you see on my picture is what you get... they do not have a "fixing station" for you to add to your tacos chopped onion, chopped jalapeño, pico de gallo, guacamole or guacamole sause.. they do not have any red salsa for the tacos(some tacos go better with red Chile salsa than green chile). Only thing you have on your table to season is salt and pepper and that's it. The plate of 6 tacos came only with half a lemon which you have to make sure it lasts for all of them(are they rationed or what?) and the cilantro on the plate was literally one leaf for each taco (in their pictures of the product they represent the plate way different) If you wanted Guacamole on your taco then you needed to buy an avocado(on the menu) for $1.49 and I guess make the guacamole yourself. This would put your 6 taco plate at 10 dollars. The place was relatively clean and my wife says the bathroom was surprisingly very clean. Cleaner than other places we've visited.

Good food but not that much for the time you have to wait to be seated, they had 3 kind of salsas but no one's with a good taste... I'm surprised on how they have many customers and a lot of them are saying that place have the best tacos in town

The tripitas were very tasty. The tacos al pastor were a little on the dry side but still good. The service by the elder lady was excellent.

The service and food were great. The wait for to go order was very long. The items are on the menu one assumes ready available . Not so

It was a good first-time experience. I need to come back and try the "tripitas" again, but medium. Prices are great.

Well, at $3/mini taco, I just had a taste of inflation. At least it was delicious. Friendly staff, and very casual dining. I'm not saying it's not authentic, but I've had better al pastor in Las Vegas

This place could be a little better if the service was a bit more friendly and not so passive aggressive. The tacos are really good but maybe cut the radish a bit smaller and we were expecting cebollitas and we didn’t get any. The jalapeño was burned and not cooked all the way. We did not eat it. No one ever came to check on us after they served the food.

What a great little place to eat! Service was great and so was the food. Tacos are delicious, flavorful and authentic. Prices for this place were a little high BUT the price they charge for their drinks is outlandish! Almost $5 for a lemonade really! $2.99 for a jarritos! Overall, a great place to eat!

Good tacos but horrible service. Only 2 tables full when my husband and I Walked in. The other table with 2 people and another table with 6 people who were mostly finished eating but still talking. Ordered, food came out, no one came by to ask for refills or how everything was going while we were eating. I needed a refill of lemonade and more salsa but still continued eating, thinking someone would eventually come by. I finished and still couldn't get anyone to come by to ask for a box to take the leftovers. The other tables received service just fine, the cooks saw me trying to get their attention or someone's attention and still nothing, this went on for about 10 minutes. Someone saw me trying to call someone and called out the number of my table. Still, no one came by. By this time an employee was talking to the table of 6 who were leaving. They seemed to know each other. Finally I was able to flag a lady down and asked her for a box. She left walked around for a bit, and by this time I was annoyed. I picked up my 2 tacos and wrapped them in a napkin. Hey everything is expensive nowadays and I really like their tacos. Right before I got to the register she came up with a box and the salsa. I told her I didn't need the box but took the salsa. I'm never going back as much as I like the tacos. I've been going to tacos el charly since it was just a little shack on darrington and it's so disappointing. Ohhhh and 4.50 for a watered down lemonade is bonkers.

Very good tacos the best we've found in El Paso, so far. Los tripita bien dorada están muy buenos. Les puse 4 estrellas porque considero que si tuvieran mejores salsas, estarían más buenos. Pero con la salsa de guacamole me conformo mucho, pues ya no como tanto picante.

Solid 2 stars I am swwwworrrrryyyy not really but come on you call these tacos? Como? How's this Horizons best... I have to differ. Me and my boyfriend were visiting and I was craving tacos. As always I use Yelp (and gotta give credit to Open table too ) for my food Necessities and saw that this place had 4.5 stars. That's pretty good on yelp but I soon came to find that this has to be a Flaw or something because the food was not good at all. The meat... there almost was none! I had more tortillas than carne That's ridiculous! I'm used to my tacos having some meat in them but I guess. The service was rude and careless. The girl in the front just wanted me in and out lol come to find out there two enterneces to this place so be mindful if you plan on eating in or taking out. I made the mistake to order for take out and I went to go sit down and I also guess you can't do that. If you ordered your food to go, it's to go. I thought that sucked... especially since I promptly change my food decisions. Yeaaaaaa idk but I personally wasn't a big fan, we had to go out again and get something because we were just not satisfied.

The menu is simple but delicious! They serve the most popular kinds of tacos that include, tacos de asada, tacos de buche, tacos de al pastor and tacos de tripitas. The waiters are prompt and the food is served rapidly.

Me encanta aquí! El servicio es tan bueno, los empleados son muy amables y amistosos. Los tacos saben bien ricos, mi favorito es el de buches. Cuándo entró me siento muy bienvenida y casi como que estoy con mi familia. yo y mi familia agarramos estos tacos uno a tres veces al mes. Recomiendo estos tacos a todos en Horizon City! Los mas mejor!

Grear authentic Mexican food and priced well. We got 4 tacos (2 al pastor and 2 carne asada) which came with a baked potato, grilled green onions, cilantro, lime and salsa. The tacos are smaller than "normal", and were pretty good. Also got the queso which comes with 5 small corn tortillas. The queso had bits of jalapeno and chorizo, and was so delicious! It was just a bit difficult to eat when wrapped in tin foil. As the cheese hardens, you can't scrape off the cheese very easily without tearing the foil. The lady taking our order was super friendly and helpful. She even gave us horchata on the house when we came back to pick up our food.

Absolutely the best authentic mexican food I have EVER had, no joke. The simplicity in it with it being mostly tacos and quesadillas, it was just simply amazing. It was absolutely what me and my spouse needed on our travels through Texas ! Not to mention the service was amazing ! They were so polite to us, checked on us throughout our meal it was refreshing. The restaurant itself was very nice as well and had a welcoming feel to it, bathrooms were very clean as well.. who doesn't appreciate a clean bathroom !!! If I'm ever for whatever reason in the area I would definitely dine again ! ohhh and me and my spouse got the 2 quesadillas with potatoes.

Every option is very good. Their tripitas a medio termino are divine. Take out option is the best way to go so you can enjoy them at home

Service was very extremely fast. Food was very delicious and highly recommend. reasonably priced, but get ready for that 3% edit for pain, credit or debit

Place was busy when we went, only one party allowed in at a time (this was about a month ago though, before texas opened up). After we walked in and placed our order, we were asked to wait 15-20 mins outside/in our car and come back. Food was fresh and made to order. Better sinage about what exactly to do would be useful...if this is still the practice, consider calling ahead to confirm and/or order ahead of time.

The locals are loco for recommending this place. The tacos , I mean all flavors are mediocre at best. The salsa is weak, the tortillas measure 3 inches folded, and the they just are not good. The fixings are not tastefully presented. The potato was the only good thing but you don't come for the potato. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

Is it possible to become a Mexican by eating a taco? Si, como que no! From your first bite you'll be saying 'Arriba!' It starts with some Rojo and Verde Salsa, (red and green for the gringo) the salsa is a bit spicy so wait for your beverages if your not accustomed to eating spicy food. Then order your tacos, they come in multiples of 2, up to 6 ($1.49 A' la carte) Also served with a baked potato and roasted 'cebollitas' (onion) Delicious tacos at a great price. Just enough grease to make you feel official. A Bite More: Mix and match your order with different choice of meats. Carne asada is beef, nice mix of spices with a slight taste of soy sauce. Al pastor is pork, a tasty mix of red chilies and spices. Mucho Bueno! No beer, no real dessert, but there is a great mexican bakery across the street. Also order an avocado on the side, a classic mexican coke, and torreadas (roasted jalapeño) Aya aya ya! Dine in for a quick meal, they are faster than speedy Gonzales. The location is a bit of a drive from El Paso, but worth it if your in the area. They started out as a small taco stand and it grew from there. The staff is super friendly. Great family place. Disfrute! And make sure you have your papers when returning to El Paso, this place is awesome!

Since we began eating at Tacos El Charly, we have not had a bad meal. The service is friendly and courteous. We hardly ever wait more than ten minutes for our food. My grandchildren can be fussy about their food, but they enjoy their tacos and queso with chorizo. The place is clean and the drinks are cold. I see people walk in with beer, so I guess you bring in your own alcohol. There is entertainment on the weekends. It does get pretty busy starting on Friday. The place is packed and their take-out station is filled to the max with people picking up their orders. Tacos El Charly is reasonably priced and a great place for a family on a budget. If you are looking for a great platter of tacos, this is the place for you!

Went here on a suggestion from a regular. Not much to look at from the outside and an interesting interior as well. There wast much going on where the cooks were, so I'm not even sure where the food was cooked. So, this was my first time getting a potato with Mexican food and it came with a very large pat of butter/margarine. Nothing special about it, it is just a potato though. We decided on the crispy tripitas and al pastor tacos. The tripitas were quite crispy, but did have that "could be cleaner" taste to them. The al pastor was very tasty as well. The spotlight for me was the green salsa. Very tasty with a decent kick of heat to it, which is usually not as spicy as other salsa, but a very welcome addition. I could definitely use more of it. Over all, a nice place with a friendly staff.

Papa asada and the tacos are always my go to when I come to this place. My kids love the tacos and the quesadillas. Before Covid it was also a nice place to go to for live music and karaoke. It's a good place to go when you have a big family, you can buy the parrillada with some queso fundido! So so good! The salsas they have for the tacos are good as well and the limonada and horchata. They always have the food ready quick when you order to go as well and give you the whole set up to take home. Nice little spot in horizon

Fantastic... I stopped for breakfast while passing thru. Tacos were great, service was fast and friendly. Didn't look like much from the outside, but the place was clean and comfortable... Wish I could eat here more often...

For some regular looking tacos I will say tacos El Charly is extremely addicting. This place started off as a small food truck only open a few days out of the week and weekends then eventually into a tiny five table little shack and now into a full blown restaurant. Tacos el Charly has some greasy little tacos that you know can't be good for your effort to remove those love handles but damn are they delicious !!! The tacos al pastor with some chile' negra as they call it are some of the best tacos I have ever had. Don't believe me try some and see if you can resist coming back. Now I'm not talking to all the healthy I only eat salad everywhere I go people, if your one of those stay far far away from here! Tacos El Charly is in Horizon but worth the trip. Depending on where your coming from I'd say try taking Joe battle to the pellicano exit east toward Horizon then turn rite on Darrington instead of driving all the way out to i10. You will eventually end up on Horizon Blvd and tacos el Charly is in a yellow building on the left at the four way light. Ps: if you look at the name it's called tacos El Charly not rice and beans el Charly not burritos el Charly so dnt expect to find a full blown Mexican chain restaurant menu !!! Come for tacos and you will be pleased .

The best for Juarez style barbacoa, very clean and savory! Very good prices too, you can get by the pound or 4, 6 tacos or also on a white bolillo bread the best!! You just have to order before 10 am because they tend to run out!

Went here for my moms birthday and was so disappointed after we had gotten glowing recommendations. Our meat was dry, the staff seemed kind of annoyed to help us. I don't see myself trying this place again.

the al pastor tacos here are better than don cuco, which is my "fave" but there is no salsa bar here :/ i had to ask a stranger next to me how to say 81 in spanish so i would know when my order was up, since they yell out your number when its ready. this kind stranger asked the staff to say my # in english lol. i was kinda intimidated by not being mexican but that was really cool. when i came it was a friday night and it was packed to the gills.. great tacos but i hate crowds so donno if it would be my first pick. i was just watching mike chen's youtube on tacos in mexico and he went to a place called charly's. coincidence?

Yummm, these are some very good tacos! Good portion sizes, meat is very flavorful & all the salsas are delicious. The baked potato was basic but it's a potato so can't expect much. Very delicious will be returning to this hidden gem!

I don't eat meat but there is still something here for me. I had the veggie plate with tacos and it was delicous.

Authentic Juarez experience. Food was served fast. Delicious tacos with all the amenities. Only thing missing was a cold frosty beer. But it is BYOB, next time. Prices are reasonable, music is very jolly. Definetly will be back

It's not the most convenient to get to but very worth it. I had the pastor tacos and wow!! They are a league of their own. So fresh and delicious. Flavorful. They also give you grilled green onions and they're perfect for the tacos. Last but not least the baked potatoes are so good as well.

This place was really good! We came on a Sunday at noon. We had the 4 carne asada tacos and 4 tacos of each meat. It comes with a baked potato and all the fixings for the tacos (grilled onions, cilantro, radish slices and lime). And then we split a small menudo which was really tasty! I like my menudo with a dark red color and a good kick to it... and they had that here. Service was great (Thanks Pablo), the TVs had football games on and you seat yourself. The menudo ran out right after we got there. Try this place!

Delicious mexican tacos!! Very nice people and the cook smiles and greets you if you greet him. Authentic mexican food. Love it!!

Great prices, great taste, good portions, great service. The wait is over. This place finally moved closer to horizon from far east darrington. We would still make the drive out there but it's nice to have them close. This is your typical taqueria. Just good greasy tacos. Asada, adobada, pastor, tripitas, and buche just ya name a few. On a side note my wife said they music was awesome.

I always get the tripas from here. They're amazing! I def recommend coming here. It's worth it

The tacos aren't that bad. But they don't serve rice and beans (wtf?!?!?), the aguas fresca was watered down, and the salsas were tasteless and 'meh'. This is El Paso. Home of the best Mexican food on the planet. You gotta go big or go home. Not 'meh'. The biggest letdown was the disposable everything. Disposable forks. Plates. Only the entree plates and glasses were solid dining plastic. Everything else made me feel as if I was at a picnic. It's 'ok' In a pinch, but there's more than a few of these places within a mile of this place, and yeah it's prob a little more but at least your food will have taste. Prob won't be heading back. Sorry Tacos charley. Gave you a solid try and we weren't impressed.

Great tacos! Little gem in Horizon. Took my evaluator from Florida and wanted authentic Mexican food. The quest fondido is to die for! The limeade is fresh and delicious! You can't go wrong here!

Best taco place in Horizon. Staff is friendly the food especially the tacos are great. I love their salsa. I recommend and I'll be coming back .

This is the first stop on our taco tour of the greater EP area. We ordered the asada and the al pastor tacos. We also got the queso fundido and the veggie plate. BYOB and Clamato and they'll chill your beer and bring you rimmed ice cold glasses for your micheladas. Can't go wrong there. Filled with locals even on a Monday evening. The service was very good. The asada was a bit dry and could've been more flavorable. The al pastor was pretty good, decent flavor. Taco plates come with a papa but if you're not a fan say, sín papa, and they'll give you an extra taco instead. The queso fundido was tasty. I'd order it again and the house made tostadas were legit. Definitely a must try place...

Nice Lil hole in the wall taco place. Really good tacos and are pretty good priced. All tacos come with a baked potatoe. A horizon gem for sure.

Good place to eat tacos! The place is clean and employees are very nice. The ambience is pleasant here. High remarks for the salsas, specially the salsa negra. The tacos are small in size but the flavor is there. I like the grilled cebollita and baked potato that comes with the plate. I enjoyed eating here. (visiting from L.A. Ca)

Awesome tacos at a very good price. Everything was delicious on our visit tacos were perfect and the bake potato was just right. Salsas were equally delicious, will definetly be back soon.

Love this place! Every time I visit home this is one of the stops on my checklist. REAL delicious tacos! I get the tacos al pastor zest some lime and salt on them & you'll love them!

My favorite taco spot hands down. I currently live in central Texas, but make this my first stop when visiting family in El Paso. I always receive good service, the facility always seems to be clean and there is always an enjoyable atmosphere in the dining area. Highly recommend this place.

Had the Buche tacos. They were great and the staff was really friendly. Will be sure to come back.
