Austin’s New Restaurant & Bar Openings

"Tacos El Gallito is a late-night taco truck selling tacos, quesadillas, tortas, and burritos (including a Cali burrito). The tortillas are homemade, and the al pastor gets cooked on a trompo. To try them, head to the parking lot of that car wash near Barton Springs and South Lamar. Tacos El Gallito is open on weekdays until 2:30am, and until 4:30am on weekends. " - nicolai mccrary

The Best New Restaurants In Austin: The Austin Hit List

"At 5pm, the lights come on and the rotisserie starts whirring at Tacos El Gallito. The taco trailer at Barton Springs and Lamar is open nightly until 4am, and the focal point is al pastor. There’s a trompo out front—right next to a few speakers blasting music that makes the crowded parking lot feel like a party—and a self-serve bar with salsas and limes, ensuring you can make your tacos exactly as spicy as you’d like. The menu also includes burritos, tortas, mulitas, and a few other meat options, but make no mistake—you’re here to eat tender, charred al pastor that's shaved straight from the trompo and piled onto housemade corn tortillas. This place is pretty decent in a great location with parking within the car wash. Lady was super friendly and tacos were pretty good. Green salsa has a punch at the end. Hope to come again and try all the different meats. You can also put your own toppings on your tacos. She recommended I try the horchata which was also pretty tasty compared to others I’ve had.

These are some loaded tacos al pastor. And they are actually from a trompo! And for 3ish dollars.... Hells yeah! The tortillas are handmade and not store bought which makes the tacos 4 times better. They add the piña which adds sweetness and a bit of acidity. All the toppings are grab as you go which is also another plus since other taquerias like to be stingy with them. The customer service is outstanding and incredibly friendly. The only downside is that there are only 3 tables. So if it's busy get ready to eat standing up or your car. These truly are the best tacos al pastor in Austin. The other tacos were good as well but they are eclipsed by the al pastor.

Five stars all around. Went here with a craving for tacos. Tried 2 other places, but these guys were open at 12:45am! I cannot give higher compliments. Delicious. Fantastic. Wonderful.

This is the real deal folks. Came to Austin looking for legit tacos, and finally found them on my last night in town. When you see that al pastor turning on that trompo (vertical spit), with the pineapple above it, you know you've come to the right place. And any place that has lengua (beef tongue), tripa (beef tripe), buche (pig stomach), and cabeza (beef head) is not messing around. There are plenty of tamer options for the less adventurous, but get outside your comfort zone and try something new! Lengua has been one of my favorites for years, but tripa is quickly giving it a run for its money (and for the longest time I thought I didn't like it!). Quality tortillas, excellent meats, A+ service, and open late - what more can you ask for? If I were an Austinite, this would be my go-to taco spot!

Got two el pastor on corn. Small tortillas, but they do stack the meat on, so is OK. $3 each. Tortillas were pretty good. Thick for corn, so they didn't fall apart. Pastor was quite good. Good flavor. Not dry at all. Going to come back and try a few others, but might be on a best list soon.

Tacos El Gallito is a popular taco truck located at the corner of Barton Springs and South Lamar in Austin, Texas. Known for its late-night hours, it stays open until 2:30 AM on weekdays and 4AM on weekends. The standout item on their menu is the al pastor, cooked on a trompo (a vertical spit) and served on homemade tortillas. In addition to tacos, the menu includes burritos, tortas, and quesadillas. The taco truck creates a lively atmosphere with music and a self-serve salsa bar, making it a favorite spot for late-night eats in Austin.
