El Ruso Review - Echo Park - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"At El Ruso, a Sonoran-style taco truck that parks in Echo Park, everything boils down to the tortilla. Made with flour that the truck's owner sources from his hometown of Tijuana, these are the kind of chewy, translucent tortillas that make each bite a euphoric experience. As far as El Ruso’s excellent mesquite-grilled meats go, the muñeco combo is definitely our top choice. Smoky chopped carne asada and spicy chicharron en salsa roja are piled into one of those golden tortillas, plus you have the option of going all out by adding stewed pintos, cabbage, and diced onion to create a hearty beast of a taco.  And if they happen to have them on the menu that day, don't leave without a burrito wrapped one of their sobaqueras, a giant, stretchy hubcap-sized Sonoran flour tortilla that's the only one of its kind in town. photo credit: Jakob Layman" - Sylvio Martins

Ordering a Taco Kit Is the Best Way to Eat the Mexican Staple at Home | Eater LA

"I learned from Walter Soto of Tacos El Ruso, who sells his to-go tacos already assembled, that carne asada to go should be reheated in a pan or on a flattop grill to maintain moisture." - Bill Esparza

The tacos are pretty good; they dice the meat up very thin and serve the tacos well; the asada does have a bit of a distinct flavor.

Incredible flavor of the carne asada. Perfect seasoning. I don't know what kind of charcoal they use but the flavor really infuses into the meat. Fresh made tortillas. The salsa is fire. They aren't stingy with the guacamole. Order the quesadilla con carne. Trust. Place could be bigger that's the only knock.

The tacos de carne asada had really good flavor — the meat was well-seasoned and juicy. Guacamole was excellent. However, the atmosphere of the place wasn’t very good. It felt a bit uncomfortable and took away from the overall experience.

It's been a minute since the last time I was here. The cook and staff have changed, but the food is just as DELICIOUS!

Less is more. You will only find asada tacos and quesadillas, nothing else. You don't need more in life. They pour love in every little piece of meat, in every tortilla, in every avocado. This is, without any doubt, the finest example of what a taco should look, taste and feel like. It took me 28 years and traveling the whole country to find THE TACO. You won't find better tacos or quesadillas anywhere in Mexico.

The best place for tacos, quesodias. Roadside stop with the food made in front of you. Super authentic and a local gem. Every time I visit Tijuana this is a must stop by. I have been many times over many years and have yet to leave disappointed.

The best carne asada tacos in TJ for me so far. The meat is marinated and cooked to perfection. The staff is friendly. The tacos did get smaller since I first started coming here and they have no beans or even agua de horchata. Still good if you want tacos de carne asada which is the only kind they sell.
