The 11 Best Fish Tacos In LA

"It takes some big cojones to make such a bold claim in your name, but the revolving door of regulars at this Los Feliz taquería tells us they’re doing something right. At the Best Fish Taco in Ensenada in Los Feliz, that “something” is keeping its tacos simple and made-to-order. This nautical-themed taquería is great for a quick, easy lunch with its tight menu of two items: fish or shrimp tacos. Corn tortillas are made in-house, and the same person who takes your order will fry your seafood in a bubbling pot behind the counter. In minutes, you get a naked, crispy fish taco that you dress at the salsa bar with cabbage, a lime-drenched “radish relish,” and runny chipotle crema that we often get carried away with." - sylvio martins, arden shore, garrett snyder

The 22 Best Restaurants in Ensenada, Mexico | Eater San Diego

"This taco stand always has a crowd. It has long been the benchmark for Ensenada’s most famous export, Baja fish and shrimp tacos cooked in a flavorful tempura batter. Like the best stands in Ensenada, the dogfish and shrimp are fresh and high quality, and the double-fried, golden-brown batter is light and crispy around the thick-cut filets. The condiments are standard: chipotle mayo, shredded cabbage, red and green salsas, ketchup for the sweet-toothed locals, cream and mayo, pico de gallo, and mustard. Fans will tell you there is no better fish taco stand in Ensenada." - Bill Esparza

Google
Best fish tacos in Baja California, I highly recommend this place. They have a special to go. The service was fast and the people were so nice. There is limited seating don’t expect a restaurant just standing and enjoying the tacos is ok. You get to put all the toppings your self.

Michael Kline

Google
Quality tacos worth the walk from the cruise port! Simple food done exceptionally well! We tried both the shrimp and the fish tacos, could not pick a winner! The toppings were fresh, the salsas were on point. I would literally come back just for these tacos! Employees were super friendly at this local joint!

Hugo Villalobos

Google
Really good fish and shrimp tacos. Light and crispy batter. They have a whole parking lot on the corner just west of their taco stand. No seating available. Tacos were delicious. I paid 200 pesos for 6 tacos. Which was extremely cheap.

Google
Tacos Fenix is a must-visit taco stand for anyone craving incredible street food in Mexico. They offer two standout taco options: fish and shrimp, both bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors. The fish has no lingering aftertaste, and the shrimp is perfectly seasoned and juicy. While the stand often has a long queue, it’s worth the wait. There aren't many seats, so you’ll likely be standing and eating, but the experience is part of the fun. Pair your tacos with their spicy sauces for an added kick. Simple yet delicious, Tacos Fenix is a true gem for taco lovers!

Google
This is supposedly the home of the Baja taco. We stopped in and tried a couple. We were warned ahead of time that the various salsa were quite hot. We opted for the chipotle cream. The fish was very mild with a thin coating. We felt that the Salsa overwhelmed the flavor of the fish. It has a small number of tables and many of us ate on our feet. The tacos were messy enough that that made it pretty messy to eat and keep clean.

Panda Kun

Google
Best fish and shrimp tacos in Ensenada. The shrimp tacos were the best, very crunchy. The fish tacos were also good, could be great. The juice from the fish made it less crunchy.

Sheamus Byrne

Google
Probably my favorite fish and shrimp tacos I've ever had in Mexico! The batter is perfectly crispy and they have many different options to dress your tacos however you like. Order first, sit down and eat, and then pay at the counter. They accept cash and card.

Luis Yanez

Google
Very clean and modern fish tacos stand. I tried the fish tacos which are good but the shrimp tacos…. WOW!!!. Must try when you are in town.

Yelp
Had a cruise stop in Ensenada and heard Tacos Fenix had amazing tacos so had to give it a try. This is a decent 15 minute-ish walk from the port so if you feel like you are going the wrong way, you are not. We took a double stroller with my two kiddos and the adults I was with kept asking if these tacos were worth the struggle. Everyone agreed once we ate there that it was well worth it. My husband even said it was the best shrimp tacos he's ever had. My father in law can be particular about his food and he was singing their praises. The fish and shrimp tacos are a great price and they have the most amazing assortment of toppings from multiple sauces/salsas to different veggies (both picked and not picked). I preferred the shrimp taco over the fish taco because it had more of a bite/texture while the fish was softer overall. We plan on coming back here again anytime we are in Ensenada and my in laws ended up telling family and friends how delicious this place was. 5 stars! Highly recommend! Make sure to trust your GPS and just go.

Yelp
Tacos Fenix definitely lives up to its reputation! Simple menu, $30MX for fish taco, $35 for shrimp taco and some drinks for sale. You get in line and make your taco request (recommend ordering as you eat so each taco is hot and fresh--plus service is quick) and dress it as you wish. Toppings include cabbage, salsa, lime, pickled onions, Pico de Gallo, and crema. There are a few plastic chairs sprinkled around the food cart with trash cans nearby. At the end, you tell the cashier what you had and pay up. Quick and delicious!

Yelp
This is a street cart the is walking distance from the cruise ship terminal but it is in the real community ... don't be afraid! There are a few crates to sit but it's usually crowded so be prepared to stand and eat. If you lean against the wall watch out for the pigeons that hang out above your head... they will drop an unwanted special sauce on your taco. The walk is worth it. Come hungry and soak in the real experience of fish tacos in Ensenada. Two shrimp and two fish tacos for $6.01 US. The crunchiest most delicious tacos you will ever have. All of the veggies and sauces are there for you to dress these bites of perfection just the way you want them. I only wish I had another day to go back and eat more.

Yelp
It was so amazing! The menu was straight forward. There were so topping selections! The staff members were great too. Order food/drinks, eat, then pay. There is a sink, soap, and paper towels to the side of the taco stand.
google avatar

Yelp
The cart that has the most people around it for sure. A little hectic figuring out how to order and pay. Not much seating. But the tacos were oh so worth it. The crispiness of the fish is unforgettable. I'd go back to Ensenada just for these tacos!

Yelp
Recently took a cruise, and stopped in Ensenada. This was the first place we hit up. I got 2 fish tacos. $1.50 each. Tacos come naked, and you top them with what you want. I go pretty basic, cabbage, pico, squeeze of lime and some hot sauce. Tacos were bomb! Fish was freshly fried, so delicious! Only thing I wish that Fenix had, was better tortillas. They were good, but definitely could be enhanced if they were homemade on the spot. Still, a pioneer in fish tacos (been around since 1970), and a definite must stop if you are in Ensenada. They were delicious!

Yelp
Came to Cabo on one of the cruise ships and Tacos Fenix has been on my radar for a while. Finally had a chance to check them out since I missed out last year. From the port area where we were dropped off, it was a good 15-20 minute walk to Tacos Fenix. Funny because it seemed like a few of the cruisers were on the same mission as we were all heading in the same direction. Once we got there, the line was pretty decently sized but it moved quickly. You let them know what type of tacos you'd like and they have the toppings along the counter in which you like. There's cabbage, tomato, and lemon. cream and a variety of salsas. The deep-fried shrimp and fish were seasoned well, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I didn't even notice it being oil at all. Great-tasting tacos and they're good-sized! This place is definitely a must in Ensenada! For 4 generous sized tacos and 3 sodas, it was $12 US, which isn't bad at all! The workers at the stand are friendly and are fast at what they do. Two thumbs up and worth a visit!

Amber S.

Yelp
Food is delicious. Not salty at all. Everything is self serve like the salsa, veggies, and the cilantro.

Yelp
Deep down the side streets of Ensenada, past the tourist zone, lies a taco cart on the North side of the road named Tacos Fenix. It's easy to miss, as I was on the opposite side of the street and walked right by it without even noticing. However, once you find this street side gem, you'll have a new found love for the batter fried fish taco. The cart is large, but very unassuming for a taco cart. There are bowls of cabbage and salsa, and squeeze bottle filled with tomatillo sauce, crema and other delicious items to top your golden brown, melt in your mouth Tacos Fenix fish taco. To say that the fish taco here is the best I've ever had, doesn't even begin to do the taste justice. A large fryer full of lard floats dozens of battered fish taco meat just waiting to be made into tacos and consumed on the sidewalk. The staff was friendly; and the cart was super clean for it being in what some may consider an area of blight and decay. However, the walk from the tourist zone to this location felt as safe as any other area, but with far less harassment to come get a beer or buy a souvenir. The order process is somewhat rudimentary, there is no actual line and as one reviewer stated "Disorder is the order." Meaning just walk right up and fire off what you want and it will be immediately placed in front of you to load up with whatever goodies you see fit to place into the delicious creation. You pay when you are done, and they will keep pumping out tacos to you as long as you are ordering them. The price is almost absurdly cheap at a little over a dollar a taco. You can pay with American money but you will receive pesos as your change, which was fine since I intended to enjoy a beer somewhere while I was here for the day. These fish tacos melt in your mouth and have a flavor unlike any other i have ever tried. I would absolutely make the trip to Ensenada if only for the Tacos Fenix fish tacos. Yes, that IS how good they really are.

Yelp
After getting off the ship we headed on a walk to get these tacos! This was our first time trying them and they were delicious. The tortillas tasted handmade and fresh, the fish was perfectly crunchy and the toppings were all fresh! Definitely will stop here when I'm back in town!
google avatar

Yelp
We have been to Ensenada a few times and we always, always, always go searching for street tacos. Tacos Fénix specializes in seafood tacos - batter fried fish (pescado - 30 pesos) and shrimp (camarones - 25 pesos). You order, they give to you, you put on your own toppings, eat on the sidewalk sitting on little round chairs and pay either before or after eating. Horchatas are also inexpensive at 25 pesos a cup. Nice crunchy batter with tender fish and shrimp on the inside. We love the green sauce. We were all entertained by a street singer who was dancing and singing nearby - doing it for the heck of it and not for tips. Around 20 minutes walking from the cruise pier.

Yelp
The BEST Baja tacos I've ever had. I'm so glad I got to try out this infamous spot that many locals have talked about! If you are in Ensenada, this is a must-try. I came back twice during my weekend trip because of how delicious the tacos are. Perfectly crispy with endless toppings to choose from. I tried both their shrimp and fish tacos, and I personally enjoy their shrimp a bit more. This is an outdoor stand with limited chairs. It's more of a grab-and-go type of place, but I highly recommend it. Despite the long lines, it goes by quick!

Rj F.

Yelp
Amazing tacos! The absolute best shrimp and fish tacos I've had in Ensenada! A definite must try!
google avatar

Yelp
If you're in Ensenada, Tacos Fenix is one of the stops you have to make. For being a little cart on the street, they have a landline, take credit, and sling amazing tacos for cheap. Many people worry about street food, especially in Mexico, but this place has been great many times with friendly faces. A must try for sure!

Yelp
I knew I couldn't leave Ensenada without trying Tacos Fenix. They serve the best Fish Tacos I have ever had. They fry them right in front of you and served fresh and hot. The lines to get long, but it only takes a few seconds before they serve you your food on the plate. I ordered one shrimp taco, and two fish tacos. The shrimp tacos were good, but nothing beats these fish tacos. The fish is bigger than the tortilla and served plain. The fish and shrimp were lightly battered, fried to perfection with a crispy outside and fresh deliciousness inside. All the garnishes are placed in front of you. I added pico del gallo, cabbage, chipotle crema to mine. It made for the perfect bite but didn't overpower the flavor of the fish at all. After I finished my three tacos, I was feeling full and decided to order another fish taco. They're damn delicious! I will without a doubt be returning here the next time I'm in Ensenada. By far the best fish tacos out there. And really inexpensive as well.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
Tacos Fenix is a busy street food stall with just two items on the menu: Taco de Pescado and Taco de Camaron. Both the fish and the shrimp were fried in a batter seasoned with black pepper, giving the fish a slightly spicy flavor. At the counter were plenty of condiments including shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, onions, cucumbers, radishes, lime, and numerous salsas and cremas. Between the two tacos, I definitely preferred the fish, which was super juicy and perhaps one of the most delicious fish I've had in a fish taco. The prices here were also unbelievably cheap for the quality and flavors of the food--no wonder this place is so popular!
google avatar

Danny C.

Yelp
They say the fish taco started here; and if you venture yourself over to this spot you'll quickly find in the very first bite, it was in fact started here. I've had fish tacos from a lot of places when you throw this place into the mix you'll find they are far separated from anyone else and this is exactly a true fish taco that you won't have anywhere else. The crispy batter lasted in every bite with the perfect heat temperature that lasted to the very end. The red salsa was absolute the perfect heat and the flavors were authentic you won't find anywhere else. Every time I come to Ensenada, I will always stop here to grab a handful of tacos! Do yourself a true authentic favor, and walk over to give this place a try, I guarantee you won't go anywhere else!!!

Yelp
If you're a tourist, you'll have to make an effort to get to Tacos Fénix, but it well worth the trip. Their cart is outside the tourist area near the corner of Espinoza and Juárez Avenues (it's on Espinoza). The neighborhood is a little isolated and I'd recommend not coming alone (not to overstate a problem, just to make you aware). The food is as fresh as can be and fried right in front of you. You are given your taco with the protein (fish or shrimp) on a corn tortilla. All the fixings, and they are plentiful, are available. For an outdoor stall, I'm surprised how clean and bug-free they are able to keep it. There are a few benches and chairs to sit down on. As with all the other outdoor stalls that I've eaten at, they ask you to pay once you've finished (like an indoor restaurant). I'm not sure why but this seemed odd. I guess it helps sell more delicious food, since you've essentially got an open tab. Like several other eateries in town, they claim to be the originator of the fish tacos. We'll leave that up to the courts and just agree that their food is delicious.
google avatar

Alexander T.

Yelp
My wife and I first stumbled upon this gem of a taco stand 6 years ago. And it has been our go to seafood taco place. We compare all the fish/shrimp taco food we eat to this place, and honestly none has even come close. Highly recommend going with the shrimp taco and using the crema sauce.
google avatar

Sai Geetha K.

Yelp
Fish and shrimp fried right in front of you. It can't get any better than this. Must try their tacos if you're in Ensenada. Salsas, veggies, and other condiments are available for self-serve to your heart's content. Fast service and friendly staff. They accept only cash for payment.
google avatar

Terri A.

Yelp
A solid fish taco! Honestly a little disoriented to the process but just followed along-- order, dress your taco, sit on a stool or stand and pay after. Super crispy fish and great flavors to the salsas and condiments. Worth the walk and the calories. Also, super inexpensive!
google avatar

Adam C.

Yelp
Okay fish tacos. Not worth going crazy out of your way for. If you live in California you've probably had something similar.
google avatar

David E.

Yelp
Best fish tacos in Ensenada.. you know the food is top when there's a crowd of people waiting in line to get their fix. They go off the honor system you eat first then you pay.
google avatar

Chris V.

Yelp
Best fish tacos ever. Condiments a plenty!! Super cheap eat them right on the street corner!
google avatar

Dian K.

Yelp
Located in the non-touristy side of the town, this taco truck delivers amazing shrimp and fish tacos. Battered and fried fresh right in front of you, the batter is so light and crispy. Just order one of each first, then come back for some more - you can pay altogether at the end, they're pretty lax with that. All the toppings are self-serve and it's awesome! And I love how they have the sink at the end to wash your hand before/after eating! They have horchata and hibiscus (Jamaica) and various sodas for drinks. The sign does say they take cards, but I always pay with cash. This taco truck is definitely worth the detour from the normal tourist area, go!
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
You know where you find some of the best fish tacos that you've ever had? In the birthplace of the fish taco, Ensenada. Sure, some may say San Felipe, some say Ensenada but for the sake of this review we'll stick with Ensenada. Don't let the birds and the trash on the street ruin your appetite, these fish tacos are legit. If my words don't convince you, the line of locals certainly will. Biggest thing that you need to know here is that the honor system is fully in play and the order is disorder. Find your way up to the counter, shout out an order, and wait for your temporarily clean hands to be filled with tacos in a matter of seconds. I got both the fish and the shrimp, both were absolutely insane and the modest price makes them even tastier. Once done, make your way back up to the stand, pay your bill and seek out a sink... your hands will thank you!
google avatar

Claudia P.

Yelp
If you're craving fish tacos, this is the place! The fish tacos were delicious but the shrimp tacos were amazing!!! 10 out of 10 for me!! Highly recommend!

Yelp
I eat tacos around the world. As far as fish tacos go, these are #1 in my book. I missed coming here when I was in town a few months ago. This time, it was the first place we went. It didn't disappoint. There were 3 or 4 people standing there eating when we arrived. By the time we left there were about 15 people eating and no one was talking but me and two of the ladies who were working. I was yapping to my girl about how quiet it was. You have to understand, when food is this good you just keep on eating and everything around you slips away. There were 4-6 small stools to sit on, we grabbed a pair. We had a few other places to go, so we each had one fish and one shrimp taco. Both were amazing. If you're a fish person you'll swear that one is best. If you're a shrimp person you'll do the same. Next time I go, I'll get three fish tacos. When you arrive you just tell them what you want and it's in your hand about 10 seconds later, no joke. There's a large pot of hot oil going and your food is served hot and fresh. There's a ton of fresh toppings in front of you, that you'll put on. Marinated red onion, marinated white onion, pico de gallo, all the lime you want, three types of salsa I believe, shredded white cabbage and a few bottles of crema and chipotle crema. Maybe some other stuff as well, I forget. You eat, eat, eat and pay a VERY low price. I'd expect these to be at least $4.25 anywhere else. I believe each fish taco was $1.39, the shrimp was about .40 more. You cannot complain about that. They have merch and the merch starts at $4 for a keychain. We can't wait to come back here. All hail Tacos Fenix.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
This is definitely up there on my list of best fish tacos that I've tried. The concept is simple, ordering is easy. I got the standard: 2 fish tacos and 2 shrimp tacos. The batter that it's fried in, tastes amazing. The breading has a unique mix of a crispy bite with a smooth chew - if that makes sense! You order, they hand you the tacos and you help yourself to whatever condiments / toppings you'd like on it. It was clean and the workers were very kind. If you want GREAT fish and shrimp tacos - GO HERE. IMPORTANT!!!! *****Don't be fooled by the other "Tacos Fenix". There is a full sized restaurant just one block away and THEY ARENT AFFILIATED. The employees at the Tacos Fenix food truck on the street said that the restaurant simply copied their name and is not an authentic taste of the original.*******
google avatar

Jerome C.

Yelp
You get the fish or shrimp on tortillas and you make it your own style as they provide you access to the condiments, seasoning and sauces. The best thing about this is they don't fry it in seed oils! I saw them using lard for frying so they deserve 6 stars for this.
google avatar

Alex R.

Yelp
Phenomenal tacos. Peak fish taco. The flavor is incredible and the stand is full of locals. They only sell shrimp or fish. Get one of each. Thank me later! Tip: they have parking at the end of the block and they validate!
google avatar

Yelp
I learned about Taco Fenix from a couple of foodie YouTubers I follow. I knew I had to check this taco stand out when I was in Ensenada This isn't super close to the touristy shopping streets where the cruise goers hang out. It was probably a good 10-15 minutes walk to get here from Av Adolfo López Mateos or a super quick ride via Uber. When we got there, we noticed a bunch of locals eating at Taco Fenix whereas neighboring taco stands were pretty much dead. This was a sign that this place is great. It was confusing where the line starts to order and who is taking orders since there were so many people crowding around, but we were able to approach the counter when it opened up and ordered with our broken Spanish. All the condiments were laid out in front and there were so many choices. You get your tacos and eat them around the cart and return to the cashier to let them know what you ordered and pay. The shrimp and fish tacos were simple but delicious. The price of the tacos were reasonable. Was it so spectacular that I would go out of my way to get fish and shrimp tacos here again? Probably not but I'm glad I got to try it once at least. It is still a good place overall, and if it's closer to where I was staying then I would have frequented more.
google avatar

Steven W.

Yelp
Even though it involved a walk through streets that were partly cracked and flooded far removed from views of the cruise terminal and the more tourist-friendly confines of downtown Ensenada, once we turned the corner, heard the loud mariachi music blaring and saw the long queue of patrons, we knew that we were in for a treat! The fish tacos were well seasoned and delicious, but the camaron tacos were out of this world (like mindblowingly good). And the ability to dress the tacos however you like was fantastic. Well worth the trip!
google avatar

Ricky Z.

Yelp
We hit this place a few times while we're here in Ensenada. There is always a line but it goes quick. The staff is always on point. So fresh and delicious. The shrimp tacos are my fav, but I always need to do some fish tacos as well. Check this place off your list, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Noelani M.

Yelp
Best fish tacos!! We had the fish tacos and shrimp tacos to go and enjoyed them by the main square area. They made sure to set up our to go boxes with all the sides so we can make our tacos perfectly. We preferred the fish over the shrimp but the shrimp had a nice crunch to it. I'm happy I ordered both and they gave generous portions

Jasmin A.

Yelp
If you are in the area of Ensenada. You must stop and eat some fish or shrimp tacos. They are very delicious. my favorite are the shrimp. me encanto. estan super deliciosos. El servicio 10/10. Service was Great 10/10
google avatar

Ricardo G.

Yelp
Yes yes yes, if I haven't mentioned this place before then I'm overdue. The shrimp tacos were delissssshhhh. Gets a little packed but worth it. Parking is horrible but luckily for you they have a very small lot around the south west corner of this fine taco establishment. Enjoy!!!

Angelica D.

Yelp
Fish and shrimp tacos were delicious! Sides are out so you can add them to your liking. Tacos range from 30 to 35 pesos. There is a parking lot at the corner, which makes it a lot easier to find parking.
google avatar

Badnewz B.

Yelp
Shrimp tacos were awesome and full of flavor, parking was kinda hard but definitely worth checking this place out
google avatar

Connie L.

Yelp
Incredible fish and shrimp tacos in Ensenada. The generous assortment of freshly made salsa paired perfectly with the freshly fried fish and shrimp. It gets quite busy but the lines move fast. There's a few stools to the side for seating Overall, they were the highlight of my trip and the best fish tacos I've ever had! Super affordable too.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
$1 fish tacos. Always fresh. Can't wait to go back. I think I had 5 fish and 1 shrimp. Shrimp taco was tasty as well. Really crowded because it is a popular stand. My mouth is watering because I want some now.
google avatar

Bianca K.

Yelp
This is an absolute must try! The food is delicious among locals and tourists! The best tacos de pescado y camaron I have ever had! Service was fast, and the people were so kind, very good place! We will be back!
google avatar

Greg C.

Yelp
Been coming here since the 80's. Best fish tacos in the world. Haven't changed a bit. Hard to find if you don't know where you are going but worth the effort!
google avatar

Andrew J.

Yelp
It's a ten minute walk but it's totally worth it especially as half of it is through a nice part of town. To die for tacos de pescado and tacos de camaron. We got six tacos and 1 horchata and it was less than $12. The fish was flavorful and breaded well. Warning the green sauce is HOT.

Joshua C.

Yelp
Disappointed. The fish has super crispy batter and is really thin. Well done. Fish inside is mushy. Batter gets soggy really quickly. Tortillas were not good. Flimsy, not great flavor. Get the shrimp instead
google avatar

Iveth H.

Yelp
Best fish tacos in town, they were fast, clean, had all the toppings for your tacos. Also very friendly

A little off the beaten path in regard to the main touristy Calle Primera area, but the best fried fish and shrimp taco I've had in my life! Something about the batter makes it extra flavorful and delicious. You order, dress up the taco yourself with the assortment of toppings and salsas, then pay. Tacos are a great value at 25 pesos. So good, we came back again!
