"The expert move with Tacos Mi Rancho, a local favorite with a 20-year history in Oakland, is to grab a few barbacoa tacos and then post up on the grass or on a nearby bench at Lake Merritt. What’s even better? The truck is open from 9:30 a.m. until midnight daily, so you can get your taco fix morning, noon, or night." - Lena Park, Dianne de Guzman

Best East Bay Tacos That Are Available for Takeout or Delivery | Eater SF

"The Lake Merritt standby is still parked in its usual spot, slinging very solid tacos at almost any time of day — from 10:30 a.m. to 1 or 1:30 a.m. most nights. With so many other late-night spots either closed or operating at drastically reduced hours, the truck is a boon to takeout taco eaters looking to satisfy a post-midnight craving." - Luke Tsai

Tacos Mi Rancho - Review - Lake Merritt - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Tacos Mi Rancho is better known as “the taco truck by Lake Merritt” or “the taco truck to hit up when hungry at midnight.” It also serves some of the best Mexican food in the city. No matter what time or what state you’re in, rolling up to this permanently parked, cash-only spot is an absolute must - especially if you’re craving al pastor tacos or a 15-inch super burrito late at night (they’re open until 2:30am or 3am nightly). Google
Hard to find carne Asada fries around Oakland decided to try this place and they did not upset. Presentation and flavor was amazing. First timer and they gained me as a regular customer.

Loraine T.

Google
My Go-to spot for Carne asada taco 🌮 or burrito 🌯. Lengua quesadilla is really good too.

Justin T.

Google
first time here on tues aug 12th 8pm, tried 4 tacos (shrimp, alpastor, carnitas, and asada)… meats were cooked right and salsas/garnishes were balanced. all tacos great but shrimp was the best one i think! 🌮🌮🌮🌮

Google
I used to love this place. I’ve came here for about 10 years and get the super burrito 15 inch to share with my boyfriend. It used to be a longer version of a super burrito. Now it is the same ingredients as a regular burrito but spread out between 2 tortillas. The last 2 burritos where long and thin with barely any meet no cheese no sour cream. Mostly rice. No chips. Not worth it anymore. I got al pastor but the meat was actually not good at all. 😢 I’m sad because this place was great and now i feel like they are just robbing people and making them pay more for an extra tortilla.

desirae V.

Google
When I called, they know my voice so I always get my regular order and it’s always fresh and I always make sure they come my breath on half because I know I only eat half and save the rest for later. Everything’s fresh they give me extra potatoes love that so good.

Miles K.

Google
Excellent food. Normally I’m a burrito person but at this location but for some reason my burrito order always gets messed up so I go for the super tacos which are some of the best. Atmosphere is what you would expect of International Blvd. In Oakland, but I just wish I had a place to put down my plate as I ate my tacos.

Cyerca

Google
1st time here. Looked really good, smells good, meat taste good, but it's really dry. Even with the two different cheeses and sauces. I wish the meat and cheese was melted better with the fries, then maybe it wouldn't be so dry.

Gennett M.

Google
Today was my first time trying their food. I ordered 4 steak tacos and a steak burrito I was not impressed at all. The tacos were average . If I was hungry and in the area I would purchase them again, but I would not go out my way. The meat could use more seasoning it didn't have a whole lot of flavor. Both the green and red sauce had no kick no spice to it, it was really bland. The burrito they can definitely keep that. It was not favorable at all. The lady that took my order however was polite.

Yelp
The best taco truck in Oakland! Been going here for 20 years, and still include it on any Oakland itinerary for visitors. I get my tacos "with cream and cheese," and they are the best anywhere. Shrimp or chicken generally, but I can literally eat anything here. The menu is just solid overall, and everything is top tier. Love that they now serve jamaica (hibiscus); it's perfect. In all these years, there's ALWAYS people in line -- especially late late night. But it's always safe and I've literally never had or even seen a problem there (actually the opposite). Great food. Easy. Chill vibes.

Yelp
I haven't been in years, and while doing a friend a favor, I found myself in the neighborhood of Tacos Mi Rancho! It felt serendipitous. I had just gotten paid, so I felt I was destined to treat myself. I got a carnitas burrito, 2 carne asada tacos, and a Jamaica drink. Sad to report that the best thing was the drink Instead of carnitas, they gave me Al pastor. It made the tortilla wet and chewy in not a good way. And the carne asada was dry and tasteless. I will still come back to hopefully get a correct order of carnitas. And based on another's review here, I want to try the sopes. I've had so many great experiences at this spot, that I'm not going to let this one bad experience stop me from giving them one more chance.

Yelp
This is a classic taco truck near the Lake! I usually order through door dash, if you visit them in person be prepared to wait for your food! My go to orders is either carne asada or al pastor tacos. The orders come with a side of tortilla chips and their pre packaged salsa. I've also tried their carne asada fries which are good if you are a fan of liquid cheese! Consistently yummy tacos!
google avatar

Josh A.

Yelp
Tacos Mi Rancho is a classic taco spot in Lake Merritt that's been on my list for the longest. Got an egregiously large super burrito and some tacos on the side. To me, the burrito and tacos tasted fine, but nothing special by any means. Something to get when it's late and you're nearby, but I would never go out of my way to eat here.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by last night because I was craving tacos pretty late and this was on of the few places open late (til midnight)! I ordered 5 tacos: cabeza, carnitas, carne asada, birria and shrimp. All the tacos were delicious but my favorite was the shrimp taco, it was perfectly cooked and the salsa on it was so good. The rest of the tacos were pretty standard but still really delicious. It was quite busy for 10pm on a week night but the service was still quick and staff were really nice. They also gave chips (with some sort of Doritos/nacho dust), salsa, and even pickled carrots and jalapeños which were delicious on the side. I also ordered a regular carne asada burrito and that was really good too. However it was a cash only place (plus venmo and zelle) so that threw some people off but all in all quick service, good food, and open late!

Yelp
This little taco truck is tucked on a side street near Lake Merritt. Easy to miss, but clearly loved. The line was long, which is always a good sign, but it moved fast. The menu was big, and I got three carne asada tacos. All of them were delicious. Some reviewers complain that you need to know a little Spanish. Come on, this is California. You can handle "carne asada." Take your tacos to go and eat by the lake. It's a great move. Pro tip: the default salsa is not hot enough, at least for me. Ask for "la salsa más picante." You will not regret it.

Brittany H.

Yelp
They are sooo good but back to cash only. Such an inconvenience. Please go back to cashless payments
google avatar

Phillip R.

Yelp
Didn't make the drive there. Had it hand delivered from a colleague. But when it came, it came with a roar. The green and red sauce packets came neatly packaged. The peppers were spicy. The burrito..? I had to have it for dinner and breakfast. It was huge!!! I think I could've gone over board and ate it all. However, I wanted to be able to work after lunch so, I got what I got.
google avatar

Soo K.

Yelp
These are hands down the best nachos I've ever had. I ordered through DoorDash and was able to make adjustments to my order over the phone when I realized I forgot to request chips on the side. They also provided me with radishes and jalapeños as I requested, which was fantastic. I think their nachos are spectacular because of the cheesy, crunchy Doritos chips combined with the nacho cheese! Additionally, I'm impressed by their customer service; they quickly responded to my request over the phone.

Yelp
They have great food here. Try different variety. Service is always pleasant. Ambient sound here is good street chatter.
google avatar

Yelp
Im so tired of spending my money with restaurants for the food to not be what I ordered. You get it home it's nothing what it's suppose to. Got a 15" super burrito, nothing super about it. No sour cream or cheese no guacamole nothing. Just hard ass steak meat that tried to choke me to death. Dry ass rice and beans.
google avatar

Yelp
Who knew? I know that I didn't. I do now. But now, what you don't know, now ya know, ya know...bae-bae. Baabae. My cousin offered to bring me dinner since she was making the trip to this lil Itsy Bitsy taco truck from Discovery Bay to Oakland on First Ave. Really? I did say...now I know and that shit IS legit. I have been driving past this joint for years. To be honest, I probably have passed hella shit going to where I know and trust- the mission in the city. But hey, when cold and don't want to go that far......this is the place. I got the carne asada burrito with beans, no rice and guacamole, it was just like I went to the Mission and stopped somewhere before La Taqueria and El Farlito. I don't compare anything to the Mission because it's a culture all by itself. It has changed a bit since growing up going to get burritos but that's another review for another time. The prices are extremely easy on the pockets, so please if you don't know get in the know and get yourself on over to this spot. FYI- I ate this burrito so fast, I forgot to take pictures. Hilarious! Bon Appetite.

Yelp
Tacos Mi Rancho is my go to. I've had almost everything on the menu, and it's all good. Walk up to order or call ahead. Food is quick and delicious. Staff are pros. Pay with cash or Venmo only. Regular Carne Asada tacos or Sopes con Carne Asada are my favorites. Shredded chicken is also great! Pickled carrots rock, and salsa verde is mild and delicious.
google avatar

Nick P.

Yelp
Asked for carne asada. Burrito came with what tasted like shredded beef that had been dying on the grill for the last 3 hours. So salty that it was nearly inedible. Really exceptionally terrible. An embarrassment to Mexican food. All around half-assed and overpriced. Absolutely nothing special about this place.
google avatar

Grace S.

Yelp
DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE ON DOORDASH ! Maybe the actual truck serves good food, but we were just brought store bought chips and pre-packaged salsa packets. It'd be one thing if the salsa was actually good, same with the chips, but the flavor was horrible and not fresh. In addition to that, they got my burrito wrong and were very skimpy on the serving sizes all around. Poor quality and overpriced.

Carla B.

Yelp
I come here for the Sopes. They are delicious and homeade and filling it is pretty busy around the lunch hour so its best to call it in. The wait can get long. Ive tried other things, taco, burrito, but the Sope reigns supreme
google avatar

Sam L.

Yelp
Low-key taco truck that was dank for weekday munchies. Found parking nearby; we ordered about 4 burritos for a group and had our food ready less than 10 minutes ready. I split a 15 inch (super) burrito with a friend and it was a good sized portion! We had it with barbacoa which I thought was tasty - flavorful and not dry!! Also really enjoyed the red salsa, and the chips which have a cheesey dust on it which is kind of fun. If you don't have cash, they take Venmo as well. Only qualm was the labeling of the burritos was a little tricky, so our shrimp orderer took a chomp out of the steak one before realizing the mistake.
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
I didn't receive what I ordered until I went back to the cashier to inform them it was incorrect. They were just going to take my money and thought I was going to accept what I didn't ask for. I also didn't expect the portion of fries to be as small as they were, trust me that was under the sandwich before we started eating :/

Arthur F.

Yelp
Been frequenting this place 10-20 years. Go to for consistently flavorful delicious food
google avatar

Maxine L.

Yelp
fire taco truck that's open late nights for your nightly taco cravings! I got a carnitas taco and my bf got 3 carne asada tacos. The carnitas tacos was juicy, flavorful, and had a good amount of meat. The carne asada on the other hand was a bit dry and flavorless :c The tacos are a liiittle on the expensive side too, $3.50 per taco. The service was nice and super quick as well! We like efficient trucks that don't keep you waiting for too long on cold nights. Overall, yum! But maybe skip the carne asada?

Francisco L.

Yelp
The sign clearly says a Regular Burrito comes with guac, yet when I bit into mine, there wasn't a single trace of guac inside. False advertising at its finest. I also ordered the steak cheese fries and was shocked, they gave me a tiny portion compared to what I used to get. Before, it was big enough to share with two people. Now, it barely feeds one person. To make things worse, they raised the prices while cutting the portions. This place has completely gone downhill. Skimpy portions, higher prices, and misleading signs. Definitely not worth it, save your money and go somewhere that actually delivers what they promise.
google avatar

Tish C.

Yelp
Uncooked tortillas, salty, barely any meat, this place just doesn't care anymore, especially if you get it delivered, 2nd time I got terrible food, terrible business to treat online orders differently. Never again.
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
My friend thats born and raised in Oakland introduced me to Tacos Mi Rancho and I've never looked back. Literally the best tacos I've ever had. There's always a pretty long line, and I totally understand why and will always be willing to wait. I've introduced so many friends to this place as well and they also all agree that it's top notch. Definitely willing to go out of my way for the tacos here, highly recommend!
google avatar

Cherish C.

Yelp
I love this place when ordering in person. But for some reason, the last two times I had DoorDash there was almost no steak on my nachos. I'm disappointed. I have been going to this place since I was a kid. Definitely go try this place out, but somebody is really skimping out, which makes it a terrible experience for customers. If I just wanted cheese and chips, I could've made it at home. It's a food truck no seating but the food was usually worth it, not anymore. Also the little bit of steak that was there was mostly fat. Makes me want to drive there and get a refund

David M.

Yelp
overpriced. Not worth the money. I asked for extra jalapeno and sauce package. He grab a bunch, and pretended to put it into the bag. When I got home, there's only pack for 4 super burritos. I make it clear to them that the group won't eat if they don't have those. He gave 2 pack of jalapeno and 2 pack of sauce what the hell is wrong with these asshole. Never going back again. such a rip off. the dude with the beard.
google avatar

Eryn H.

Yelp
Tacos mi rancho is a must when I'm in Oakland. They are a little on the pricey side for Mexican food but it's inflation so what can you say ? I love their tacos , sopes, burritos and nachos and they are open late! Love grabbing a bite here and going to eat at lake Merritt
google avatar

H T.

Yelp
As an Oakland native born and raised I've had my share of taco trucks. This one is probably ONE OF THE BEST IN THE BAY AREA. prices have went up but they compensate very well with the meat and toppings they put on them tacos therrr. I always get the tacos haven't tried any else but I must. There carrots. Hella good. Radishes hella good. What tops off these tacos is the GREEN ONIONS. THATS RIGHT THE GREEN ONIONS. HELLA GOOD. BITE TACO. BITE GREEN ONION. this is also probably the ONLY truck that has GREEN ONION to go with your food. The workers are usually friendly. The cooks be putting it down in there. Like going before or after lunch time. Small street. They now take Venmo. Can't wait to hit them up again.
google avatar

Jenna R.

Yelp
An Oakland staple. When I think of Mexican food in Oakland, I immediately think of Tacos Mi Rancho. Their food is fresh, made to order. Their salsas are bomb. Their chips are top tier. Always worth the wait. This time around I ordered the #2 - carne asada fries with a soda. My dude ordered an al pastor quesadilla. Let me tell you, I devoured my meal. Barely shared. The quesa was good too, so flavorful. Love the picked veggies too. The only sad part was that I didn't have their chips.

Jimarre P.

Yelp
Ask for a steak cheese and lettuce burrito and they couldn't even get that order right. Mfs are terrible. Put a bad rep to Oakland!
google avatar

Aaliyah A.

Yelp
They were extremly unprofessional business, I was with a group of people, and they offered us the service of Zelle in Venmo when we showed them the Zelle they said that they did not receive the payment on their end, and proceeded to go through the line telling other customers that they're taking Zelle and Venmo, so it took about 20 minutes for them to make the time to stop taking orders or even have somebody come out and help us so we can get our food and they tried to keep the money and make us leave, let you mind we are not from Oakland Zone if this is typical behavior, but for me, I will never be returning again
google avatar

Ashli L.

Yelp
I come to this truck every time I'm in Oakland, best taco truck in the bay. Parking can be tricky if you come around lunch, dinner, or late night. Cash only
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
This place is really where you get your bang for your buck. My husband eats A LOT. He also gets hungry fast. He got the 15" burrito and finished it around 12pm today. It is now 8pm and he still doesn't want dinner he said the burrito wasn't dry and they had his favorite refried beans. The tacos were good too. However, the carne asada was a bit dry. The flavors were good and I'd come back for the al pastor. Parking is limited but if you go before lunch, you probably don't have to wait long. People do call in their orders though. Venmo or cash only too.
google avatar

Bridgette M.

Yelp
Well, maybe we should've considered that "hay comida en la casa". This spot used to be so good. I assumed the prices went up because of inflation, but they're just trying to save a buck. My nachos kinda tasted like wet Doritos. I guess they don't make their chips anymore. My boyfriend ordered a super quesadilla and it could've been left on the grill longer. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back. If you need a good taco/ burrito spot near the lake I'd go to Maya Halal, Tacos la San Marquena or Xingones.
google avatar

Charmagne E.

Yelp
I used to love right by this spot on Lakeshore. It's is da bomb! There's nothing on this menu that's iffy. And it's so great they are open by last call. The line does get crazy then but you'll have to go mid-afternoon to not get a line. I recommend getting tacos and crossing the street to Lake Merritt to get a gorgeous view with your delicious meal. Enjoy!
google avatar

Giovanna R.

Yelp
Vegetarian friendly! Their veggies super tacos are the best in town! If you're vegetarian. Even my non vegetarian friends pick this one and love it! Hits the spot, the cravings, and open late! Come thru!
google avatar

Joey T.

Yelp
THE BEST TACO TRUCK IN THE BAY. I said what I said lol. They're open late night and all day. Perfect for tacos after the club or lunch at the lake. I love their especial tacos specifically carnitas. I don't order carnitas anywhere else. Also don't forget to ask for extra jalapeños and carrots. I can munch on those for days. And chips! Get the chips. Horchata to complete your meal 10/10. Thank me later lol They're also known for their 15in burrito. Shrimp is the second best option for tacos.

Bruce D.

Yelp
For many years this is my goto taco truck just off downtown Oakland near Lake Merritt. Late night spot too if you got that craving for tacos or want to big with their hefty super burrito! Tasty and affordable food, be prepared to wait for a few minutes if you are walking up to order. Consistently good food!
google avatar

Allison H.

Yelp
This is my favorite food truck to get tacos and burritos. Service: I usually call ahead of time to place an order because the line can get long and people order a lot. My transaction was quick. I just walked up and paid for my food. Just a reminder that they only take cash. Staff are very kind. Food: My favorite items here are the steak taco especial and the steak 15 inch super burrito! They are A-mazing! They are so packed with flavor! The super burrito is huge so you can definitely share it! Be sure to ask for chips when you order a burrito or 5 tacos or other entrees! I always ask for lime, salsa and jalapeños/carrots! It makes everything taste even better! Price: Prices seem to go up every year. The 15 inch super burrito used to be $10 and now it's $20. I'm still going to get it because I love it! Parking: They have a few parking spaces in front of the truck. I highly recommend this food truck! The food here is delicious! It's right by Lake Merritt! You can grab food here and walk over to the lake to eat and enjoy the view!
google avatar

Francois T.

Yelp
The best taco truck in Oakland. Its a bold statement and you can feel how you feel if you disagree with me but I'm ten toes on it. They offer everything you'd want from a truck: Burritos, Tacos, Quesadillas, Tortas, (Jack Black Voice) Nachoooooooo. They even have that 15 incher burrito which is two meals for me. They also have a noice choice of meats. Parking is tough when its busy but if you call ahead, you'd just have to wait in line to pick up your food. They use to be cash only but I saw they accept venmo now.
google avatar

Tara M.

Yelp
When our power went out during the storm and I wasn't able to cook, I took a chance to go to Tacos Mi Rancho with the hopes that this part of Oakland had power and I'm glad it did. Truth be told, I've been coming here for more than 10 years. I just love their tacos and service. I've only had good experiences here. I'm happy I arrived when I did because shortly after I arrived, a massive line grew. They are often busy, but this was a lot of people. I ordered a Carne Asada Taco with onions and cilantro, my usual. Steak was delicious and paired perfectly with the onions, cilantro, and their flavorful green salsa on the side. I love their tacos as does my son. Unless something dramatically changes, we'll be back.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
First time trying the food at Tacos Mi Ranchos. Service was good unless you ordered a lot, then it took alittle while but not bad. It's near Lake Merrit in Oakland, so you get that nice outside ambiance as it's a taco truck. Went to the lake to eat my food and i must say, it was all very delicious. Prices weren't bad either. Highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Patty P.

Yelp
Before I ever moved to the Bay Area I had a Tacos Mi Rancho burrito. My partner and I stayed at the motel nearby and wanted a taco or burrito and it was just around the corner. It was one of the many reasons we moved here in 2012. We just went back to have burritos and it was as delicious as it ever was! Of course prices are a smidge higher but the burrito is satisfying with the toasted flour tortilla, perhaps blend inside of flavors and textures, and delicious salsas too, did I mention it was delicious, it was! I also love that they ask if you want pickle veggies and chips, which we always want. The chips are dusted with cheese, so good! Lastly, they use to provide salsa in containers but now they are in packets which are easy for transport, but hard to open when sitting at lake merit for the takeout meal by the water. Great and quick service! A high recommend!

Vanessa T.

Yelp
Always tacos here are the best, love carne asada special tacos, also you can order Tamarindo Jarritos.. .
google avatar

Jean C.

Yelp
So this is my number one go to spot for late night tacos, burritos and tortas. They have been here for ever and the quality is always great. Of course I've never been here totally sober so... Last night I got the shrimp tacos for the first time after two people in feont of me ordered them. I dont know how long Ive been sleeping on these really good shrimp tacos - but I am awake now. So freaking good. The crew that works there is nice and fast. My order is always right. And I've never been here when there wasn't a small line after 10:00 pm. I hope they never leave! Enjoy.

Téa L.

Yelp
Tacos Mi Rancho has the best asada burrito it is so delicious they have 2 sizes regular and super which is super big. Both are so good every time. Their tacos are also super good!

Yelp
May be the 3rd time at this taco truck Meh.... first time, delish, 2nd time made a referral, brought the referral cause we are into tacos and he was not impressed, but mine were good. This third time......well, consistency is obviously not a thing. The ground beef was equivalent to the texture and taste of the canned chef boyardee ravioli, it was not beef. Then, I risked my life because I was craving street/truck tacos---I rode a bike there. I passed a taco place, a big huge rat passed in front of me at 1st and Lake Merritt, a Toyota Prius swerved to miss me in the bike lane, a truck ran the red light at the corner by the taco truck . AND THEN---I am getting off the bike ordering tacos and there is a man there selling a basket of high quality shrimp and other boosted, I mean borrowed items, I mean EBT'd items, from some local store, I'm sure. I told him no thank you. He persisted. But, what was insane was him joking that he was going to steal my bike. I did not find it humorous. AND the saddest part of it all---there was a security guard standing right there, listening, watching and securing nothing. Not stopping the guy from bothering taco truck customers. She was just yelling out order numbers in her bullet proof vest. So, I won't be back. But, I feel customers should know. It was sensory overload. Way too early in the night too. This all happened before 9:30 pm.
google avatar

Andrea C.

Yelp
Insanely salty. Ordered 2 burritos and they were tossed after a few bites. Their salsa is also very salty. Weird because I've never had this issue at any other place. If I could've eaten the whole thing, the other issue is that their burritos are skinny and lacking. Not sure how your average adult would be full off of this.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
Overpriced tacos but can't complain for the great service and nice view at the lake. Highly recommend the regular tacos instead of the fancy super tacos.
google avatar

Sammy T.

Yelp
These tacos are DANKE. I understand why one reviewer has this truck's phone number in their contact list. Considering the price and location, this place easily takes the cake to get my taco fix. Pro tip: Call ahead to order and your order will be ready when you walk up. They do have a line! Note: The tacos here are street tacos so they're definitely on the smaller side but are well stuffed. However, given how small they are (and maybe I was super hungry), as a 5 ft 3 asian, I could probably eat 5 tacos and be 95% full. A few things I tried: 1. Carnitas Taco - Good flavor 2. Barbacoa Taco - OUT OF THIS WORLD. LOVE THIS. WOULD GET 5 OF THESE TACOS TBH. 3. Shrimp Taco - Also good flavor 4. Carne Asada Burrito - Quite average. Would perhaps try the Barbacoa meat instead 5. Chips - for $1 they're great. A small little bag. These are definitely not homemade though - feels like it's from a big party size bag of chips Overall, I would 15/10 come again. I have my eye on the Steak fries next time as well :)
