Yelp
We decided to check out Taco Social after seeing it on social media and really, really enjoyed it.
The restaurant is located in Eagle Rock in an area where parking may be a bit limited but actually wasn't bad during our visit as a block or 2 into the nearby residential area yielded a lot of street parking.
The restaurant has 3 or 4 tables outside in front, an enclosed patio in the back with 4 more tables, and a LOT of indoor seating--a lot more seating than would be expected when viewing from the outside and compared to other restaurants in the area. The front room has a bar, multiple 2 tops, and many 4 tops in the front area and a back room where they also have a cornhole game to play, free of charge. They have many garage-door-like roll up windows that they open during warm days but stay closed when cold.
When ordering food, you could wait in line to talk to staff and read the large menu sign they have up, or you could just scan the QR code a on your table to order. Each table has a unique code to identify it so the staff knows where to bring the food. All tacos are Ala cart and are decently sized (these aren't tiny street tacos... each taco is maybe 1.5x the size of a street taco.
We ordered the barbacoa, the bulgogi, the tempura cauliflower, the smash burger, and the tikka masala tacos to share along with a margarita flight. The tempura cauliflower was so good and easily my favorite discovery. The others were good but more or less tasted as you would expect--that specific food item but instead of being served over rice, it was wrapped in a freshly made tortilla. You will be satisfied because the items are well-prepared but not necessarily wowed by the taco novelty.
The fresh tortillas are fresh and fluffy and I believe elevate the tacos the most. Were these tacos served in flat, cold, floppy pre-purchased tortillas--these flavors would hum rather than sing.
CAVEATS: As this was our first visit, we waited in line to order... but were still hungry so we ordered more later through the QR code. I did notice though that the online system didn't have a few of their newest food options which we saw on the wall when ordering in person.
Secondly, not all tacos are created equal like while the bulgogi and smash burger were stuffed full and dripping juices, the tikka masala was the opposite. It was SO NOT FULL that we were able to roll up this taco and FLIP in the edges to make it into a mini burrito. It still tasted good but it did make me scratch my head at how empty it was. Since each taco is individually priced... I kept thinking "did the server drop half this taco on the way to our table? Why is this one so empty compared to the others?" I also thought, "if this taco is going to be so empty, they should use garlic naan instead of a tortilla to make it more filling.
Overall the staff was friendly and this place oozes with a chill local vibe. We will definitely be back another day (hopefully less cold so we can sit outside with our pups).
