Creamy matcha lattes and sweet fruit & savory sandos

"Both locations of Tadaima are worth a detour for their standout matcha lattes. The cafes in Cow Hollow and the Mission serve ultra-creamy versions with lingering earthiness, plus mix-ins like salted cheese, black sesame, or strawberry cream. If your caffeine tolerance is beyond mortal comprehension, opt for the dirty matcha with coffee." - julia chen 1, patrick wong
"The second location of Tadaima is in Cow Hollow (the original is in the Mission) and also serves matcha, onigiri, and Japanese sandwiches. Fillings include chicken karaage, tonkatsu with pineapple, egg salad, and strawberries and cream." - julia chen 1, patrick wong
"One of the city’s buzziest Japanese sando shops delivers — a smart move given how long the lines can get at the Mission District outpost. The price is not too high, delivery costs reasonable. Be careful to order wisely so the bread isn’t compromised by the time your meal arrives. Try the mushroom onigiri." - Dianne de Guzman

"Japanese sandos are the main characters at the new Tadaima in the Mission. Think bacon, Spam, and egg musubi or sweet options such as strawberries and cream sandos on milk bread. Pair that with an iced drink, such as a hojicha latte with a salted cheese cream top, and you’ve got pitch-perfect picnic food for nearby Dolores Park." - Dianne de Guzman
"We feel as conflicted about Tadaima as we do when we debate taking Muni or calling an Uber. On one hand, this small Japanese cafe in the Mission serves some of our favorite hojicha and matcha lattes. They’re rich and not too sweet. The fruit sandwiches, like the one stuffed with strawberries and cream, are also great with pillowy bread and fruit so fresh that it tastes like it must have had its own wellness routine. The savory sandwiches, though, could use some work. The chicken karaage is solid, but tough, the shrimp tempura is dry and difficult to eat, and the egg salad? Drowned in so much mayo that we couldn’t finish it. We’d stick with the drinks and fruit-based sandos at Tadaima. For similarly priced fried meat sandos, we suggest walking a few blocks to Stonemill Matcha instead. Food Rundown Strawberries and Cream Sando If you’re going to get anything here, make it this. The cream is light and fluffy and paired with plump fresh strawberries. It’s a delicious Dolores Park snack that won’t weigh you down in between frisbee tosses and dog wrangling. photo credit: Ricky Rodriguez Chicken Filet Karaage Sando The best of the savory sandwiches, and the only one we would consider getting again. It’s fine, but it is dry. With Stonemill Matcha nearby, we suggest going there if you’re looking for a juicy piece of fried chicken in between two slices of milk bread. photo credit: Ricky Rodriguez Onigiri Go for the miso soft snow crab and the yuzu salmon. You won’t be wowed, but they’re better than the other three flavors. Two per order. photo credit: Ricky Rodriguez" - Ricky Rodriguez
