Tadka 1 (タルカ1)

It was a pleasant surprise to find a small slice of Tamil Nadu in Kyoto. The lunch menu is set meals like the ones typically found at a South Indian Mess. We had a simple veg set that came with sambar, rasam, kootu, poriyal, appalam. We also a non-veg set that had everything in the simple veg set plus nei paruppu, chicken kozhumbu, palada payasam, and paruppu vadai. We opted for the upgrade to Ponni rice which is much more suited for these dishes. The chef and staff were warm and welcoming. Be sure to double check their instagrams for the most up to date info on timings and menu!

Such an amazing place Tadka is! Went for lunch and luckily right at the opening time. Got amazing veg meal.. the dal pappu was on point. The rasam was okay but the people very sweet. Must visit for south indian veg cravings!

We went for lunch. As an Indian tourist who's vegetarian, this place is a must try. You definitely need to make reservations, else you have to queue up and it could take 30-45 mins. With Tamil songs playing in the background you can enjoy your authentic south Indian meals.

Amazing south Indian food in Kyoto! We have been to Indian restaurants all over Japan and have been utterly disappointed with the authenticity of dishes/taste. Tadka lives up to the expectations. The hosts are very hospitable and kind. MUST VISIT!

If you're searching morning breakfast strongly recommend Tadka 1 Restaurant. Dosa Available only Friday and Saturday breakfast, remaining days the serving idli with sambar. We Ordered Freshly steamed Idli covered with sambar and Ghee flavour. Masala Dosa Crispy and Taste was Amazing. Finally South Indian filter coffee also Delicious. Was there today morning for lunch. Food quality and quantity both were very good. One of the best Indian foods I have ever had outside India.

Great place to experience south India food in Kyoto. We were greatly impressed, lunch done to perfection, as we are from South India. The fish curry, chicken dish and veg dishes were all very authentic. The coin parotta was better than what I would get in Kerala. Overall, an amazing place, we recommend it fully. There is sometimes a short wait to be seated, we had to wait for 15 minutes, but I guess that is due to the good demand.

Amazing food and very nice staff. I’m India and can say that the dosa, which we tried, was better than the most places you would get in India. The filter coffee had authentic flavor too. Love the place, would visit again to try out their other menu options.
