Indoshokudo TADKA – Kyoto - a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant

"When he’s making curry, the owner-chef is a captive to his work. Determined to know the authentic taste of curry, he studied under an Indian chef, then travelled to the actual homeland of curry. The menu is replete with South Indian meals of various curries and side dishes. The popular Ponni rice is redolent with the flavour of its native Tamil Nadu. The interior’s colour scheme is a bright mixture of green, white and lilac, recalling the image of an Indian street scene." - Michelin Inspector

Tried Tadka, a restaurant run by Japanese folks — couldn’t believe they served one of the most authentic non-veg Tamil Nadu meals in Japan, without altering the taste or flavors. Absolutely loved their chicken chukka, meen polichadhu, and fish fry. They even offered us some extra rice — such a nice touch!

This is a long surviving Southern Indian restaurant in central Kyoto I was lucky to visit the other day. I can only speak for myself and I only ate there once (vegan curry plate lunch set) but the food was SO tasty and authentic I took the time to savor every morsel of it. The picture will speak louder here than my description so here it is!

The food and the place transported me back to Chennai! This was literally the best South Indian food I’ve had outside of India! The staff are so friendly, the service is on point and the food is phenomenal! I would give it 10 stars if I could!

Best South Indian thali ever in Japan. The flavors were spot on , each dish in the plate had uniqueness and authenticity . The staff is absolutely warm and welcoming. The restaurant serves vegetarian meals. How I wish the restaurant was in Tokyo! Highly recommend.

Authentic south indian restaurant. Their owner and staff is very polite and friendly. Food taste and quality is top notch and u can feel the home cooked food taste 👌🏻. Never miss their filter coffee. If u r visiting there, go there in advance. The place is always crowded. You need to wait in line for atleast 30 minutes to get seat.

This restaurant, near the Manga Museum, is run by Japanese people but serves excellent 👌 S. Indian style food. Basically, you order from limited set lunches comprising different items. The vegan option is delicious. Usually you have to wait in line, but it's worth it. The room is rather small and it's a little tense taking time while people outside are waiting.

Very good Indian curry. I like how they encourage people to eat curries with a hand. You have to be there by noon to get a seat, otherwise you have to wait outside since they only have 12 seats or so. You can park your bike in front of the restaurant.
