Finding a South Indian Chennai-style thali in Kyoto feels like a rare treat, and Wholesome Home delivers it with heart. The meal is comforting, authentic, and clearly cooked with care.
The thali includes a thoughtful spread—flavorful sambar, tangy rasam, creamy paruppu with nei, vegetable poriyal, curd, pickle, and well-cooked rice. The flavors are balanced and true to South Indian home cooking: gently spiced, nourishing, and deeply satisfying rather than heavy or overpowering.
What stands out most is the homely warmth of the food and atmosphere. Nothing feels rushed or commercial; it feels like a meal made with tradition and intention. For vegetarians, South Indian food lovers, or anyone craving a wholesome, comforting meal in Kyoto, Tadka1 is a wonderful find.
Best part is that we were able to take our baby in the stroller despite the small seating facility unlike many other restaurants in Japan.
