Outstanding Ribeye and Eggs! Delicious flavor and seasoning. The melted butter made it awesome. Added cheese and avocado. $50 for a 5-star steak breakfast on a Sunday morning. Highly recommend!

Honestly it’s not bad. I have the service a slightly lower rating because this is basically self-service. My wife and I came in for an early dinner and got the chicken fried steak to share. I asked for a blue cheese side salad and got ranch. Okay. I guess they’re both white. My chicken fried steak was okay. Not terrific, but did the job. My wife got the Louie seafood salad. It turned out to be a larger side salad with some shrimp on top. Again, not a deal breaker but not exactly a $20 dish. Everything came with bread and we got some water. So here’s the skinny. For a “steakhouse” that’s basically self-service, pay at the counter, this isn’t what I was expecting. The seating is basically cafeteria style but the prices (imply) more service. If you just wanted a quiet meal and didn’t want to pay for the tip, because why would you, this is your place. Tad’s usually isn’t full and you could potentially stay a while, so it could be what you’re looking for. If you want any service at all, then this may not be your cup of tea. Let me be clear. Absolutely nothing wrong with Tad’s Steakhouse. If you are looking for a 4/5 meal, this is it. It’s tasty and quick.

Absolutely delicious food! We had the country fried steak-eggs, and pancakes. Portions are big - one order was enough for the two of us. The steak and eggs were cooked to perfect taste, but for someone who is picky with pancakes- these were absolutely one of my top 3 places. They were fluffy, tasty, and yet firm and not mushy. If you need a quick, casual hangout spot, Tad's Steakhouse delivers. The vibe is relaxed, the prices are great, and the food is solid. Get the burger, but be aware the chili can be a bit spicy.

Excellent dining experience! I had dinner at Tad’s Steakhouse two days ago, and the steak was absolutely delicious — perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The staff was very friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. Affordable and delicious steak or grilled meat, the staff are mostly friendly when taking your order over the counter, and they have a nice bar. Some isssue that I always face will be having my steak doneness over my preference. Likewise every thing is great and I strongly recommend to come for a causal and quick lunch or dinner.

The steak was fantastic, the chicken was so tasty! I really enjoyed the salad as well, super fresh! Hard to believe this place is 4.1 when the food is very consistent and the service pretty good! Definitely a great option if you are in Financial District. I’m looking forward to trying their burgers, they look so good!

Had 8 meals here over a week. The food is high quality, consistently good portions and values. Amazing breakfast, lunch and dinner, variety. Also love the options of sides with entrees. The food were served very quickly and most of the tables are self serve. The steak and salmon were the standout. The Caesar salad is very typical of all Cali style salad. The port chop and chicken can be a bit dry but they are super flavorful. Highly recommend for no fuss high quality dining 👌

Tad's Steakhouse is a true San Francisco classic. It's not your typical steakhouse, You order at the counter, grab a table, and they bring the food out. The steaks I have had are always really well prepared and the salads fresh, and the consistency never disappoints. There's usually plenty of seating, and the staff keeps things moving and clean, which makes for an easy, enjoyable meal, with reasonable prices. Tad's is one of those timeless spots that captures a bit of old San Francisco's

Good, almost great! Dined as a party of four recently, but after the lunch hour and the dining room was relatively quiet. I like this new (to me) location - it's brighter and appears more spacious but I do think they cram in too many chairs for the tables so we had to do some rearranging to sit at our 4 top. The food is as good as ever and at reasonable prices for the portions served. The service is what keeps this review at just good rather than great. I was charged for an item I didn't order (a glass of milk?) and they forgot to give me my salad so I had to go after it. Nice and friendly staff, but not as attentive as expected. I would still recommend if you are around Union Square area looking for a solid meal. They do have something for everyone and the space is suited to accommodate large parties. Just watch your receipts.

This is a great place to eat with a wide variety of options. It's especially perfect when you're with a large group and everyone has different cravings and can't agree on one place, this spot solves that problem. They offer a little bit of everything, so there's something for everyone. You order first and then sit down, which makes it very easy and efficient when dining with bigger groups. The portions are large and definitely shareable, making it even better for group dining. Highly recommend stopping by, especially since it's conveniently walkable to Union Square.

I grew up eating at TADS when they were a big place on Powell Street, learning to eat STEAKS . For my father it was another place to eat hamburgers ... lol Any way, they have downsized to a restaurant on Ellis street. Ham too salty. But! The pancakes were so, so dry that it didn't matter how much syrup was added. Pancakes should be light enough to not even NEED syrup!! Service is ... I complained to the manager. She would barely apologize. Did not even offer any compensation. Awful Ambience ? Well, it's just a big diner, no longer the BIG steak house

Tads steaks is across from johns grill near Union square ..old place with a busy center ..relics and signs of the changing tides ...its festive ..bathroom renovated ..paid for 2 pancakes ate one ..3 outlets and plenty of seating in the area...love or hate ..changing tides ..

Pretty solid steak plate for the price. Not a fan of standing in line for as long as I had to, but the food was good. Garlic bread was good, mashed taters were good, steak was cooked properly and the garlic compound butter kicked the steak up a notch. Salad was decent; blue cheese dressing needs to be chunkier.

Me and my husbands go to spot for years in the city! Ordering is quick walk up and get give you a number. New location has a full bar (didn't order a drink tho), very upscale. Hamburger steak is a forever go to Subbed out my house salad for extra toast! Goooooo menu is too fire to not cross the bridge for a lil steak!

Great service and clean new look with the new makeover for Tads makes me smile. The increased pricing unfortunately does not. While I expected that the prices would go up with inflation, at $32 plus tip for their famous steak dinner, this is no longer the bargain steak joint I grew up with. The steak itself was well cooked and It's still more affordable compared to the high end steakhouses so I'm not faulting them for the increase, it just makes me have to double guess myself on coming here often. I still have a lot of love for Tads and their legacy in San Francisco, and I hope they ultimately succeed.

No wait during the lunch hour! Counter service only as well. I ordered the steak and eggs, which did not disappoint! The steak was tender and juicy. They do charge a 50 cent surcharge on eggs at the moment, which I'm not sure if it is necessary anymore since egg prices have come back down to earth. Tad's has a full bar with reasonably priced cocktails. I will definitely need to come back and try. Overall, the restaurant was clean and service was friendly. Checks all my boxes! Yummy Certified!

I have never really thought of Tad's as a "Steakhouse". As a child we would eat breakfast at Tad's and often come back later for dinner. Steak was big people's food and I always ate from the "diner" part of the menu. Fast forward several decades and I am in awe of any restaurant, diner, or steakhouse that can stay relevant and in business in the ever changing and finnicky environment that is San Francisco. Yes, they have moved, yes you order at the counter, yes the decor has changed but at it's core is the same experience of a place to eat for families, movers and shakers and anyone that sees the value of dining the way it used to be. Good hearty food that fill your belly and invites you back for another meal. Thanks Tad's.

Happy to see this place is back, a little walk away from the original location! Tads is an sf staple, I grew up coming here with my family as a little kid. While it's pricier now, the actual new renovated restaurant is so nice. The staff is so attentive and friendly. Food came out pretty quickly, their salad is good. My family and I got the tads special and my mom got the chicken. Everything was cooked good. My favorite is the garlic toast that comes with the steak.

I've been eating at Tad steaks for over 30 years. But this is the first time since they moved and remodeled. It's still a fantastic place to eat a steak. Of course, prices have gone up over the 30 years but still well worth a great steak and the service has greatly improved.

I'd give this place a 4.5. My friend and I decided to make a mental note to try this place out after we got lost for a bit. After finding our way, we grabbed our other friend and took a Lyft over to check the place out. You basically get in line, order your meal, they give you a number and you seat yourself. While my friends ordered a rib eye and country fried steak, my eyes battled with my stomach and had to make a compromise. My eyes wanted steak and my gut won with the tuna melt and fries...and a paloma. My food was great, I took half the tuna melt home for a midnight snack. I'm taking an educated guess that due to the lack of conversation in the beginning part of our meals, my friends enjoyed their food as well. If you're looking for a casual diner like atmosphere with friends, choose this place. Staff is friendly.

Come by for a drink!! Bar area with friendly staff and TVs to watch the game. If you don't drink, they have fancy expressos too!! We've had a surprise party in the private back room. Great place to come when in the city. Take a break from shopping or a meal before a show.

The food was delicious! My sister and I ordered the famous steak and the grilled salmon, and both were excellent. The service was great, and the overall ambiance was amazing. It also wasn't too crowded for a Friday night, which made the experience even better.

I love tags I've been going to Dad's for the last 53 years with my dad. The one time when the owner is not there and I am out with my friends and my kids I had to wait 30 minutes for my food they got our orders wrong and $130 later was not very satisfied that's the first time in 53 years! I grew eating there and when the owner was not present - the service was horrible. The food was ok - not as good as usual but ok disappointed. I love the owners so will try again a

11.03.2024 - Dinner with friends. Every Sunday, I'm in downtown SF doing volunteer work and I would always pass by Tad's. Thinking this place is just another tourist trap spot, I've ignored it. Until one day, my girl friend told me about their wings. I could never pass up the chance to try some good chicken wings. So, I've put my personal thoughts aside and decided to try their wings. Sure enough, they didn't disappoint! Super crunchy, well seasoned and adding jalapeños on top was truly the icing on the cake. I love and only eat spicy food. Tad's wing hit the spot! The wings are a tad bit (no pun intended heh heh heh) on the pricey side, but it's totally worth it! I've also tried their ribeye (forgot to take a pictures) and it was pretty good too. They know how to season their meat and it was served a perfect medium. Since my volunteer work is from 2-8pm every Sunday, now I have a go-to spot for my dinner.

I had Tad's Famous Steak with the salad, garlic bread and mashed potatoes with gravy. The brown gravy was savory and thick but they don't give you a lit of it. The mashed potatoes were good. Salad was more than ample with mixed greens and the blue cheese dressing they squirted over it was tasty. The steak, I believe a New York, was surprisingly thin it was cooked to medium rare like I asked, seasoned nicely but was disappointingly grisly. It was work cutting through it with the steak knnife provided. I don't know what made it "famous." Maybe I should have had the country fried steak or rib eye for a better steak. Service was friendly and prompt. Ambiance was welcoming and unprtentipus. I may go back again if I'm in the area but I wouldn't go just to eat steak. (Or I'd choose a different steak to eat!)

It's been over 6 years from our last visit to SF. Alot has changed since then, which is sad because SF was once a thriving city we enjoyed visiting on a yearly, since the early 90's. One thing remains the same (with the exception of the location) is Tad's Steak House. They were forced to move their location to Ellis St (around the corner) because of increased high cost to remain on Powell St. The owner is still the same, great service, friendly, the grill set-up in front as you enter (just as before) and the food is just as I remember - very good If ever in SF pay this fine establishment a visit.

Recently came here over the Cambodia weekend. Me and my girlfriend stopped by for dinner. We ordered the two country fried steaks with baked potato French fries and salad . The food here is on point. Ambiance was very crowded and busy especially for a Saturday night crowd. The he only thing that disappointed me I tried ordering a water for this guy that fell and had a panic attack and I really wanted to check up on him and make sure he was okay.

Loved this place. Super easy to order at the counter when you walk in. Meal comes out pretty quickly. Everything was tasty. Nice to be able to eat a steak dinner without the steakhouse price!

The Tad's Steak special was good, came with sailed and a side; I got fries. There was no real wait time; you order your food and choose a seat and they'll bring your food to you. The service is good too!

Been going to Tad's for years back when it was on Powell Street. Although ownership has changed over the years, one thing never changes here and that is the steaks are always cooked with the same consistency and flavor every time and are moderately priced, especially during inflationary conditions that we are living in. The current owners and staff are always friendly and work hard and will give you some extras when you ask i.e. a little extra garlic butter or some sour cream. Tad's is so much better than your average steakhouse and look forward to coming back for years to come.

I'll be short. For $30 bucks in the city, it was just an ok steak, baked potato, salad and two slices of bread. No frills just meat, potatoes and bread. Steak is definitely on the thin side. They did cook it to my likings (medium). If you want to compare this place to somewhere you have been? This steak reminds me of good ol Cal Neva in Reno, Nevada. Cheap eats to fill the tank. That's it. The wife did enjoy her chicken club. Would I return? Yeah for a burger since this would be considered more of a diner.

Ok I haven't been to tads steakhouse in ages; I think it's under new ownership. But always loved their steaks; so when I decided to stop by for a quick bite I had high hopes. They seemed to have moved to new location, that now has a bar inside that's nice touch. You no longer have your food made In front of you and tell chef how you want your steak like old times; you place your order at counter. Prices for food have definitely increased; I opted for Tads Steak and it was 30 dollars bit on pricey side. After placing my order I was given a buzzer and a number; sat that the bar where I was given my glass of wine. When my food came I was excited to dig in; but I wasn't impressed with the steak. It didn't have that smoky chargrilled taste that I remembered all the steaks having; it tasted like any steak I could make at home solid 6 in my opinion. The salad was decent so was the baked potato; the garlic bread didn't have the garlic taste I remember the bread having. It just tasted like grilled bread with butter added; again not bad but not what I once remembered it to taste like. Overall, I thought the food was solid 7 and a bit on the pricey side.

Don't be afraid of the neighborhood, Tad's is not just for tourists! As a local, I visit OFTEN! I love their food, it's always cooked hot and fresh to order. My favorites include the Chicken Breast Sandwich, the burger, the Caesar salad with chicken, or the 2 egg breakfast with ham and toast. I love sitting in the small booths if I'm dining alone or in a large booth if I'm with a friend. The workers keep the place looking spotless and the employees take your order very quickly. I bring all my coworkers to lunch at Tads and we've even ordered vouchers from them as an alternative to catering. Will forever go here!

This place is home, I've been coming to tads since the 90's when they were located on Powell around the corner from the new one. I was so happy to see they made it back to San Francisco after being closed down for a while. This place definitely gives nostalgic and I love it. For Vday I brought my boyfriend here and it was his first time. He loved it and I loved he loved it cause it's really sentimental with me for this place. Hope you around until my son gets older. The steak is always on point and the customer service can be funny. Their salad is always my favorite and now they have a little bar the drinks are great. Highly recommend the palmora and the dinning style is like traditional restaurant you order when you come in and I love they have tvs up now for you to watch sports.

I have been coming to Tads for a while now. All the food they provide has been consistently great for many years. The drinks menu is very reasonable price. The food is also great price. Their steak is always great. Customers service is good. Great place to come for sit down menu have a couple of drinks or take to go orders like I did. To go orders and sit down order are the same consistently quality of food.

The menu is varied to choose from and have breakfast items all day Flavor it's great and dessert it's delicious

My bf and I stopped in for lunch today and started off with a couple cocktails. The price point is affordable given its location for Union Square. I enjoyed my bloody mary and a vodka martini! Bf decided on Stella beer on tap which was cold and refreshing. Our BLTA on toasted bread was so delicious! I opted for the side salad with their homemade garlic ranch which was outstanding! I used my sandwich to dip into the dressing and wished I asked for more. That dressing alone would make me return to try other sandwiches as well! Overall the ambiance was nice and inviting it seemed to be a popular spot for lunch. If you're in the area please give them a try and definitely thank me later, you won't be disappointed!

So, this is my 3rd time visiting this place. The first time, I ordered the fried steak and gravy combo. The fried gravy had a weird aftertaste. I cannot describe it, but it was not pleasant. The second time I ordered breakfast - pancakes and eggs. The breakfast was underwhelming. My pancakes were really thick and dry. The eggs were flavorless, and the hot sauce I received to-go did not do it any justice. HOWEVER, today, my meal made up for all of the others! The salmon and mashed potatoes combo is very divine! It reminds me of my favorite meal at the Cheesecake Factory - the herb crusted salmon. The lemon and the tartar sauce pair well with the mashed potatoes and gravy. Please also do yourself a favor and dip the bread in the gravy - sinful! I will definitely be back for the salmon meal! Yummm.

Had a great time with my bro and dad and Jonathan took care of us the whole time and promptly collected dishes we were done with. Great experience and I'll definitely come back over and over.

Came here after the SF 10k/marathon with a large group of friends. Orders are taken up at the front and brought to your table when it's ready. Wasn't entirely impressed with the steak. It was cooked great but the quality of the steak was eh. Felt that it was doused in butter which isn't horrible but would probably order chicken fried steak next time.

I love Tads been going since I was a little kid when the steak dinners were like $10 bucks & the restaurant was on Powell St, don't really get to go as often currently but try to pick something up occasionally when I can. Tonight I was greeted at the counter by Luisa I believe that was her name just happy it wasn't Helga she comes off like she incompetent with an attitude. Luisa was very kind & helpful ended up ordering the rotisserie chicken she recommended which I never had cause I usually get the steak dinner. It was really good, I liked it a lot. While I waited for my dinner I figured I have a drink, watch the game & maybe stay. I walked over to the bar & the bartender was busy making a drink she asked me if I ordered a specific drink I replied no, she went back to making the drink so I figured I'd wait patiently until she was able to attend to me. When she finished the drink she took it to a table so I went to a table thinking that's how I get a drink but then she returned to the bar so I did but the bartender just kept doing her thing like I wasn't there so after a few mins I asked about ordering a drink & she's says something about food, we began to go back & forth & I realized I don't want a drink & by her attitude I don't think she was interested in serving me either. At some point I ended up sitting down in front of the bar at one of the tables to watch the game, the bartender decides that she wants to have a conversation about me to other customers sitting at the bar like she tryna justify her unprofessionalism. Since she was having a conversation about me right in face, I chimed in & confronted her & again we go going back & forth. Apparently what I got from her is, us customers must ask her directly for a drink she don't ask & all of that interaction between us wasn't a big deal. Moving forward I will stay away from the restaurant when she is working, if she is there I'll leave & go to John's across the street or go somewhere else. What she clearly doesn't understand is a simple smile & acknowledgement can benefit her & the business a lot but her nasty attitude just ran off some money. I gave it two stars because of the behavior from some of the employees but the food is good & a nice place to take family.

I bring friends after church here all the time! My favorite is scrambled eggs, hamburger patty, n I get fresh fruit ratger than hash browns. Servers are great & food is delivered quickly.

The food was wayyy too salty and I asked for medium rare and recieved medium well. Barely any red at all. So I asked for a new one. The employee gave me an attitude and grabbed my plate. She then served me a seared steak that was completely rare in the middle to the point where I couldn't even tear it with my teeth at all. So I thrn opted to just take it home and cook it myself. I used to live this place but its went downhill. If im paying $40 for a steak at a place that house steak in there name they should know the difference between rare,medium rare, medium, medium well and well done. Never going here again.

The foods are delicious: 1. The Famous Steak and Egg breakfast are traditional steak and eggs that tasted juicy 2. The Wings are crispy 3. The environment is clean and large with great sunshine.

Laid back place, fast food kine of "steak house" cafeteria style. This is the place if you want to sit down for a meal and reading a book or just want to be left alone. Take your time, bring a good book but leave your expectation out the door. The food was mediocre, but I'm not going to say anything bad about it more because I knew what this type of places is all about. For the price it was fair. You get what you pay for.

Very friendly and quick service. We ordered the rib eye steak. It includes salad, garlic bread, and choice of baked potato, fries, rice, or mashed potatoes. You order at the counter and pay. They give you your drinks and salad then they bring out your entree. We were still eating our salads when they brought out our entrees. The rib eye was tender and cooked perfectly. The garlic bread was so good too!

11/22/2023 *DOOR DASH DELIVERY REVIEW* We were too lazy to leave the hotel and hubby wanted steak, so we ordered via DoorDash. The food was delicious and despite the delay of the DD driver, our food arrived in a timely manner. *Ribeye Steak Dinner Baked potato and side salad =ordered medium rare and arrived perfectly cooked, tender and seasoned well =nice sized portion (see picture) *Salmon Dinner Mashed potatoes and side salad =good salmon loin portion (see pseasoned well and not overdone *Baked Potato (side) =Cooked well with a crispy skin. Sour cream was added onto the potato. I wish it was on the side instead. All other sauces and dressings were on the side. So I was a bit confused... Each meal came with a ciabatta garlic bread. Not too strong on the garlic but very buttery and crunchy. The side salad filled your typical square plastic to-go container. A good amount. Happily there was an option to include utensils and we were given enough forks and knives. We would definitely consider eating in at this restaurant the next time we're in town.

We ordered steaks and baked potatoes but you had to go up and order yourself. For the price I thought they could have a server take your order and bring it to the table. Expensive to me for not a full service place. Food was ok, I wasn't wowed!! Ambience was chill and mellow, which I like.

I ordered the Turkey and Swiss Melt with fries for lunch and it was amazing. I placed an order to go and the service was very fast.
