Wonderful Black Owned Business with beautiful clothes and wares. It’s an amazing store with a lot of cool and quality finds. When you enter you can smell the incense and sage cleansing the atmosphere. You can tell right away that everything is selected with the utmost care and made from the highest quality. The fabrics for the clothes and head wraps too is unmatched! Really great stuff. It’s a wonderful gem for the neighborhood and where I personally shop for a lot of unique gifts for my own “tribe” . The owner is really kind and warm as well as the employees. Every time we go we’re greeted with a smile, warm welcoming, and an authentic encounter. They care about the customer and your experience and hope to enrich it by their expertise and products. I always feel great shopping here. It’s worth the trip from any area in the Tristate as there is no other shop like it! Come in and catch a great vibe!

Great service! I was desperately looking for a shop that sold waist beads because I’ve been wearing them for years. They sell good quality waist beads which I love, at a great price. I definitely will be returning.

This used to be my go to store for waistbeads and body oils but I can't rely on this store to be open. I live an hour plus away and every time I drive here they're never open. This has happened to me at least 6 times. Each time they updated the store hours, I drove there and waited but no one showed up. It's so sad because this store is such a gem and I have not been able to find their products anywhere else! **Question for the owners: On the website you have an order pick up option but are you guys actively using this service? How can we as customers get to the products given that store hours are an issue?

I went yesterday, circling around the store because it is so colorful, beautiful, full of detail and treasure. I had to buy a necklace that gave me an instant feeling of joy and protection. An immaterial (but large!) gift of kindness and understanding came from a long conversation with the owner of the shop, whose name I don't want to misspell. Today, I wore my necklace to class and a few people have complimented, some of them insisting to know where the shop is.. and this is why I had to get on Google maps!! Go to Tafari, it's a special place.

I KNOW how amazing this store is! However I have to give 1 star because this is the second time this week I’ve came to the shop and it’s closed. I have called numerous of times and no reply. It says on voice mail they’re opened everyday EXCEPT Sundays. I go to instagram and it says the shop is closed Mon- Tues. Google & Yelp both say that the shop is open at 12 .. it’s almost 2pm. It’s honestly not fair to people who are coming from far away to spend money just for the shop to be closed with no responses back from anyone who works there. It says that the hours of operation was updated 3 weeks ago .. please fix this so that there isn’t anymore 1 star reviews because this is truly a wonderful place to shop.

I’m updating my review *** last week I drove all the way from New Jersey and waited around all day for the store not to be open. I ended up at prospect park to pass the time & the store never opened. I originally left a 1 star review because what kind of business is that right? I reached out to the owner who took full responsibility even though she is not currently in the country and apologized. I really appreciate that. I went today to get the waist beads that is so raved about and was greeted and treated like a customer is suppose to be treated. Therefore, I have changed my review to 5 stars. My apologies for the misunderstanding. I will be back !! Support black businesses ❤️

The only store I go to for my Waist Beads. Better than shopping online for beads as these are authentic since they don’t have the clasp/screw like the fraudulent ones online. These are from Ghana and the traditional waist beads are meant to be put on only removed by cutting them off. The mother/daughter duo who own this shop are wonderful and I will continue to support this shop!! They also have many authentic items from Ghana. Handmade leather bags, butters, etc. 5 stars! —- Update. Have gone here a few times over the past couple of months and they are always closed. I am going to assume at this point they went out of business. A shame they can’t update the google hours.

Great energy! The ladies in the store were very pleasant. I wish I got her name but she even tied my waist beads for me. I traveled from Long Island and will continue to, in order to buy products from this store.

I'm a bit embarrassed. I didn't know this gem existed. It was like the world opening up for Me for the first time but it was already here the entire time. Dont worry, I'm not Columbus. IT discovered me! I entered to soft tones, browns, scents, and images. I walked into a smile, the owner. She was so sweet and had a great energy about her. We chatted! They're not 100% open due to restrictions but you can shop most of their other products and items (pictured). I purchased black castor oil, because my hair has been dry af during quarantine. And I also bought Palo Santo, she instructed me on how I can burn it. I'm trying to cleanse my space. Ward off the negative energy and bad vibes. I'm home a lot so there needs to be peace and positivity in my space. I will be going back. Definitely. This is a Black owned establishment. I fully support this! Check her out. Pick up a few items. This store is really awesome. There are so many beautiful dresses and beaded blouses with intricate patterns. There are also really cute earrings made out of a plethora of different materials. The owner is also really nice and she gave me some tassel earrings for free after I bought a cute blouse here. Would definitely recommend.

Too soon for an update? Finally made it back here to re-up my blackseed, zaitun Shea butter and met the owner. Sweet soul. We chatted for a little about Ghana and it's reassuring to know the owner not only sources from there but has a presence there. It made me long for another trip! This place exudes warmth. I came in for Shea butter but was tempted to buy beads and cloths and all the things. Things I don't need but wanted to, just because of the warm energy in this space. Ended up picking up a mango butter also which has the same smooth consistency as the zaitun Shea that I love. Can't wait to try it out and I'll be back soon!

Really cute spot in the prospect lefferts garden / flatbush neighborhood. Wonderful and friendly owner. You can find a lot of awesome stuff here. We were filming our webseries and the owner graciously allowed us to use her store as the backdrop. Then to make my day even easier, I was able to find some super cool props for another scene in my shoot. Highly recommend checking this place out and supporting a local business.

This place is a hidden gem. I am western African and I went to this store in hope to find some clothes for a formal event. The store is really nice looking and smells amazing. There are a lot of variety in the things the owner, a black woman, sells. You can find jewelry, clothes, scent, beauty products etc.. The owner assisted me in picking an outfit and was very helpful. Unfortunately I'm really skinny so none of her items fit me properly, so I did not buy any clothes. However I walked out with very cute Africa shaped earrings and a nice necklace for $5 and $10 respectively. The dress I tried on was $60. I think the prices are fair for the U.S.

I shop here ALL the time. I am so happy to get to know this lovely family and to be their regular customer. They have some pieces that you swore you've seen modeled in magazines. It really is a treasure trove of fabulous handmade items and you can spend a long time in the store , chatting with the family who runs it as you dig through their seemingly endless inventory. I've gotten a multitude of compliments on every single piece i purchased from Tafari Tribe. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Their natural products are fantastic. The homemade cocoa butter smelled delicious and i also bought a castor oil and aloe vera hair pomeade that did wonders for my very thick' fro. I recommend going there if you're looking for a unique piece that will take your outfit to Queen-like levels. Also, the music is always good, so come for the vibes.

This place smelled like all the things in life that are beautiful. Lol it was really welcoming as my cousin and I walked in. Everyone is well educated on their history and what each product represents. I got a pair of Fulani earrings and I learned the history about it and what the size of the gold earring represents to the Fulani people. The bigger the size, the bigger the wealth lol I'm very thankful that the staff of Tafari Tribe took the time out to help pick out some intricate jewelry to match with my beautiful wrap shirt (will post pictures of outfit later on) as well as my cousin's custom made skirt and top. It was a bit pricey but not too over my budget. Will definitely be going back there once my next check clears lol

Before I came to the store today, I had read a review about how they didn't like white people shopping there. Let me tell you - 1000% not true. I needed a dress for a friends party tonight and was recommended to come to Tafari. Skin color definitely was not even a question! The owner and her daughter were AMAZING! She found me the perfect dress, helped me wrap into it , and was one of the kindest souls I've ever met. Quality and authenticity of their items is 100%. You will not be disappointed here no matter what your need is! May they have many more years of successful business and I can't wait to go back for some accessories!!!

Update: came in for more waist beads & brought along my cousin. She bought a beautiful handmade leather handbag among other things. I came across beautiful head wraps that were below $9 and I was almost foolish enough to buy some from amazon earlier in the week for $12-15. This is why supporting small business is so important! Love this store.

Passed by here after so many years on my way to get food and finally built up the courage to enter . It is somewhat polarizing with its African clothing and artifacts but upon entering you see there is a greater variety of items with something for almost every religion. This kinda store is very unique but it seems to cater for women more than anything which is fine . My cousin(male)and I though were able to snag a couple hats , natural soaps and oils to keep the body looking and feeling good . Great service as well would keep me coming back even if once in a blue .

This spot is SO wonderful. The energy is calming and welcoming. The man who works here has such a lovely vibe. He taught me how to play a sound bowl, and when he realized it was my birthday that week, told me to come back to the store and we would have a drink together as fellow capricorns. If you're looking for incense/smudging materials, this should be your go-to!

Give thanks for the royal garments! I originally came into the shop looking for some simple Fulani earrings. But once the music hit me the creativity overtook me and I began SHOPPING. I had such a good time that I immediately brought my mother back the next day to do the same. My mother has on a beautiful dress that she picked out for her sorority. And I am plotting on all the summer ram jam dance sessions with this cowrie shell bikini top. Again, thank you so much, Tafari Tribe, the Whitney Women will be back!

I could go on and on about this store. I love places that customize, first of all, but the atmosphere there is off the hook the family around, the shoppers, the displays, the walls, everything was just so dope!! Art for sale! Bags! Dresses, all size clothing! Jewelry, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets. But the reason I went there was to get my waist beads. I bought them right before they were supposed to close on the first night. The next day I went back to have them sized and have the remainder made into anklets! I'm so grateful that one of the anklets I was able to share! I can't wait to go back and get some more! I'm waiting on the purple beads! They probably have them by now... I wish I took more pics in there but here is the one taken by the owner...

I am totally in love with this place. I been looking for waist beads for some time now. But i wanted African beads and after looking at different places i found this beautiful place. You walk in and just take in every bit of the love and culture..

I am overall a fan of Tafari Tribe as a store. I go there specifically for their African jewelry - namely their banana wood items. The price for the bracelets ($10-15 typically) is pretty comparable to other African clothing and jewelry stores and sometimes I find a nice pair of earrings as well.

Such a beautiful shop and lovely proprietors. My daughter and I racked up on cowry shell earrings and necklaces. Beautiful clothing. If my pocket was more prepared I would have definitely done more damage.

I planned a visit here on a whim because I love all things NYC and all things Pro-African....and boy did they NOT disappoint. This is a Flatbush gem. So many beautiful pieces. I could have easily broke the budget here. No question I'll be traveling the 3 hr drive in the future to purchase more. When we arrived this place had the welcoming warmth of the neighborhood. Amazing delights for all the senses. The ladies inside were so helpful.

I love this place, I found them by yelp and read previous reviews. I went in for 1 dress and I left with a skirt, shirt, 2 men's tops and a jacket. The family's demeanor is very warm and comforting you will feel like you have known them forever. My boyfriends top did not fit the way he liked when I took it home so the next day we went back and the mother did a custom fit with the shirt for him for no extra charge. I love this place!

This place is fantastic. They specialize in African-centered clothes, jewelry, home goods, and body care. The atmosphere is friendly and upbeat, which makes even browsing a treat. They carry belly beads and the owner will ceremoniously tie them on for you and give you an oil blessing, if requested. I highly recommend you stop in the store, but, if you cannot, you can find a lot of their wonderful items online or via Instagram.

Why have I just now discovered this shop!! I almost want to be selfish and keep it to myself. I purchased a kente printed dress for $60 which was originally priced for $80. The material is great and I feel that the clothing is priced appropriately. This shop has so much from oils, bags, incense, shea butter, and the most beautiful jewelry and body adornments. I loved the friendly staff who were attentive and helpful. I look forward to becoming a regular in this shop.

I was looking for a store to purchase a few traditional pieces from and found this needle in a hay stack. I absolutely love Tafari. I didn't know what to expect but found so many unique items I've become a repeat customer. It's family owned and they are so helpful and friendly. Everything I purchase I'm stopped on the street and asked "Where did you get that from!" My fav piece to date is a high low dress that makes me feel like a Queen. They have great taste and you'll definitely want to put this store on your go to list.

Love their stuff, but I feel like they don't like white people to shop there. Have gotten weird vibes every time I've been in there and then the racist Instagram posts. Spent quite a bit of money there in the past, but won't be shopping there again. Especially in the world we're living in now. It's unacceptable for anybody to behave like that. I'd love to support a local business but I can't condone racism. We need more love. Not more hate.

Tafari Tribe has been a mainstay on Flatbush Avenue for years. It's part of the makeup of the Brooklyn neighborhood. They are family owned and all of their guests, whom I've seen and heard, have never had a negative experience. With the rampant gentrification happening around them, they are still able to provide quality hand made products that you can't find in knockoff shops or online unless you are willing to risk time and money on sites like Etsy.com. Yes, their prices are little higher but if you understand economics, you'll know why and would still be willing to support a small business. They too have to eat! Now to address the most hilarious review about the store owners being racist. They are not! The same respect you want to receive should be given. Keep in mind, the original residents of Brooklyn are still here. We exist. We're living, working and still pushing to thrive even when our own "neighbors" are pricing us out by the minute.

Unique finds, especially in garments. The staff was so helpful and pleasant, made us feel welcomed the entire time we were in the store. I'll definitely be going back.

Every time I set my eyes on a new item I fell in love. This family, was very welcoming, so much that I received a hug before leaving the store. I spent over an hour hanging out with these amazing folks. My only regret is that I didn't get their names. Energy rich atmosphere. My new favorite place to shop. Respect #ase

I tried to have a dress made which they promised they could make happen but I kept getting the run around and a week out from my graduation I have no dress. They are completely unprofessional and incompetent I would not recommend this place which breaks my heart to say because I was truly hopeful.

Shopping and Hanging out at the Tafari Tribe Outpost. We met the family and shared good information with each other. We made some purchases and they hit us off lovely with several gifts in the Afrikan tradition. They also have a beautiful night club next door. Nice experience.

I walked out literally with a piece of art that I can wear. I loved every second that I was in this shop. Walking into this family run black-owned shop, I was greeted by Stedman and Sandra, the woman who owns the store. She helped me pick out clothing that fit my body type and looked amazing on me. She was honest about what would fit and looked good on me. It was obvious she wasn't just trying to get me to buy everything. Eventually her daughter took over helping me and I walked out with not only a gorgeous dress for myself but a dress for my mom that will be her holiday gift. I can't wait to wear this. Everything in the store is handmade and designed by this mother and daughter team, and it definitely shows. Each piece is original. I cannot stop raving about this place, I loved it so much. I spent a good half hour talking about the shop, myself , where they were from. It was great. I don't care if you're there to support small businesses, love afrocentric clothing, need some awesome art, or just wander in unawares...you will walk out with something. Everytime I walk into Tafari Tribe w/ my family, we are welcomed with warm hearts and open arms. Your not rushed to buy anything, your offered water and a seat and everyone sits down to speak w you/ as if they've known you for years. The ambiance is beautiful, they really care about their appearance and you can tell that they want their store to be a reflection of not just them as store owners, but the people who live in the neighborhood as well. Everything from the placement of the artwork to the setup of the jewelry, clothes etc.... While much of the fashions cater to Women, the Men's clothes they do have in particular the Dashiki's are VERY NICE. I I bought one to wear at my brothers wedding and my wife bought a dress that was just exquisite!. Everybody wanted to know where she got it from, and she directed them right to Sandra, Sahida & Steadman @ Tafari Tribe. I'm also glad they sell a mixture of clothing and jewelry that borrow from many Eastern cultures but in particular, African clothing that has been updated to 2013. Too often African clothing shops sell clothes that are way too big, as if this is still the 90's. In fact, I have to swing by this week, to see whats new with their Menswear! See you guys soon!

I can't wait to actually go inside! It looks amazing from the window. I wish their online store was fleshed-out, but I understand from the website that this has to do with the fact that their products are handmade, so they probably do not have many SKUs that can be queued as premade.

Sweet store with beautiful products. I bought some bracelets there to augment my S.A Ndbele collection. Beautiful pieces and the owners are VERY nice and helpful. Definitely will shop here again.

It is impossible to leave Tafari without feeling good (the welcome is warm, the owners are lovely), and without having acquired at least one or two beautiful new items -- for the home, or jewelry, or everyday wear. I love this place!!

I have been waiting three months and have been given the constant run around(when they do pick up the phone) even though I am calling from another country. They are impossible to get a hold of and do not care to admit or rectify that a back ordered item was never sent. Paid $175 for a necklace that apparently does not exist.They do not care about you as a customer; whether you get your item or are satisfied is not a concern theirs. No integrity and I will be reporting them to BBB.

Almost missed this as I was about to give up and go home.. Great staff, go above and beyond to help.. came out with this gorgeous dress . got sooooo many compliments.. will be going again.. Thanks Tafari
