Taishan Cuisine - Review - Ingleside - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Chinatown’s Taishan Cuisine now has a second location in Ingleside. The Chinese restaurant serves an extensive menu of dishes like braised beef stew, Taishan five flavor goose, eel clay pot rice, and more. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Julia Chen

Grumpy’s Bar in Embarcadero Reopens With New Owners and the Same Great Burger | Eater SF

"One of the city’s most sought-after Chinese restaurants has doubled its footprint with a second location on Ocean Avenue, per The Ingleside Light. Owners Gavin Chak and Jackie Xu soft-launched the new spot on Sunday, February 2, with the stated hope of bringing the same late-night excitement their original location is known for to the neighborhood." - Paolo Bicchieri

We came here with a large group, and even without a reservation, the owner was incredibly kind and accommodating--they quickly arranged tables for us with no hesitation. The service throughout was genuinely welcoming. The owner even took time to translate the menu for those of us not fluent in Cantonese and offered helpful recommendations, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, the food wasn't quite as good as the service. The soup was overpoweringly heavy on white pepper, which masked the other flavors. We also tried the eel clay pot rice, but it was a bit too salty, likely due to too much soy sauce already mixed in. We found that the chicken clay pot rice which had less soy sauce was more enjoyable, as you can control the seasoning yourself. Additionally, the crispy rice at the bottom of the clay pot wasn't cooked properly, which was kind of disappointing. While we truly appreciated the hospitality and friendliness of the staff, the food overall left us wanting more in terms of balance and execution. We'd consider giving it another try for the service alone, but we hope to see some improvement in the dishes next time.

Chinese style meal with very delicious cuisines Ordered Chicken pig stomach pepper soup, its hot and peppery! really good for a cold night Garlic Broccoli was tender and fresh ! love it ! Roast duck is a must try here too ! Skin was crispy and the meat was tender, sauce has a herb taste ( dong gui ? ) not too salty too ! The Eel Rice was tasty ! can taste the ginger and special spice used to marinate it. The pork ribs and seasoned sausage & dry meat were really good ! We came it at 8pm and the rice took 20 minutes to ready ! Service was good, friendly staff, recommended real good dish for us. 很好吃的味道!不是很咸!汤也好喝! 烧鸭比New York Flushing好吃!

How nice of this Ingleside addition. Any hungry college student can walk a few blocks and eat delicious piping hot clay pot rice Taishan style. I ordered the spare ribs clay pot rice. Took about 20 minutes for the pot to cook. Free soy milk came along with the order. A side of soy sauce came in a bowl. The taste of the ribs were good and the soy sauce elevated the whole dish. I wish the soy was in a sauce bottle so I can have more of their special soy sauce. Their menu also has rice rolls, clay pot rice, bone broth soup, dimsum, porridge, house specials, won ton noodle, dry or wet style, chow fun and chow mein and many more! See my pics. Over all the ambiance was nice. A lot of grandma and grandpas were eating there too meaning the food just be good! Don’t forget about their daily $8 specials. I hope to be back to try more of their menu!

Has to be the best lunch deal in the city. 2 item lunch box w/ your choice of rice or noodles for 8.80, 3 item for 10.80. I ordered the 3 item and the food was nearly bursting out of the box (absolutely a good thing, amazing portions). You are escorted to a small counter where you are helped by a very nice lady, here you can visually see all the offerings and select them at your discretion. Your order is bagged with napkins, utensils, and condiments if it's a to go order. The interior, I would say, resembles the interior of most L&L barbecues, definitely a working class environment—and as such one should humble themselves and give the utmost respect to these workers, as they are providing a filling, delicious meal at an incredible value. Here is not the place to go if you are the kind of person to nitpick and complain. I think places like these exude nothing but pure authenticity.

Their 2/3 item to-go boxes end at 5pm. I was eating next door at the ramen restaurant and noticed a new restaurant opened. They are a familiar chain, Taishan Cuisine! The food at their Broadway location is awesome. This location was empty at 8:15pm on a Wednesday. I got their wonton noodles $9.50 to go as a way of welcoming them to the neighborhood. Service was fast and my food came out within 10 mins.

I don't know if it's a translation issue or what but this is not "pork belly" - it might be pork skin, but that's not what I paid $20 for. it was not enjoyable to be perfectly honest. the beef chow fun was good and the dumplings and tea were okay

You get what you pay for. Ordered the $11 3-meal lunch combo. The order was wrong - only received 2 of the 3 I selected. There was barely any meat.

Yelp
As soon as I was sat down, I was greeted with a big pot of tea. I'm not familiar with Taishan Cuisine but, A quick google search and it seems like they're known for Yellow Eel and rice - so i decided to order just that. Took a god 20-30 min wait for my claypot to be cooked. The dish was pretty substantial and they were not shy with the rice. My order was the Eel Claypot Crispy Rise. Eel - Not really a fan to begin with but wanted to give it a try. It tasted clean and not fishy at all Crispy Rice - slightly undercooked and not crispy at all. 3/5 I wouldn't order it again. Don't get me wrong, it's just a personal opinion. I'll try something else next time. The interior seems dark but all the servers were very nice. .

Yelp
I usually don't write these type of negative reviews(especially for "local" chinese/asian owned businesses) but this was beyond disrespectful. Was greatly disappointed by not only the customer service but also by the respect the employees and business owner had towards their customers. Disclaimer, our whole party spoke fluent Cantonese and Mandarin, there was no language barrier. The TL:DR, we had to wait 1 hour for our dishes to arrive, just for the employees to not even apologize once, and instead, business owners and employees were laughing to themselves while us and another table had to wait to get our food due to the negligence of the employees. Not to mention, the employees even gave us reheated food that was given and eaten from another table. Came by on a weekday night, ordered, and were told that claypot rice dishes usually take 20 minutes, and we knew that was the normal time. About 30 minutes pass by, a claypot rice dish arrives at another table that was late. That table digs into the food and realizes it was the wrong order, it was originally supposed to be for my table. The employees come to reconfirm orders for both tables, mind you, THERE ARE ONLY TWO TABLES IN THE RESTAURANT. After reconfirming orders, we asked if we could change dishes, and they wouldn't let us. They said that the food was "almost ready". The claypot rice came out lukewarm and wasn't even sizzling hot after waiting "45 minutes" but the time difference between the food coming incorrectly for the other table and it reaching our table was only 10 minutes. About 1 full hour passes and our second claypot rice comes out, correct this time, and it is sizzling hot. That's how we realized, they just reused and then reheated the rice that the previous table dug and ate out of and gave it to us. We even confronted them and they kept saying that it was a new dish, but how did a "new" dish finish in 10 minutes, after it was made incorrectly when it usually takes 20. Luckily the food tastes ALRIGHT, it's not as good as the Chinatown one, and the service is horrendous. No respect, no communication, only selfish business owners and employees who kept to themselves the whole time. The ONLY OTHER table had 4 missing items, and 2 incorrect orders. And my table had to wait an hour for our food to come out. Two tables, and they were able to disrespect ours and the only other customers in the building. Would not recommend coming, in the chance that an employee makes a mistake and then you get disrespected. Maybe I came in at a bad time, but the lack of communication, respect, and not even apologizing once is insane. No language barrier, no culture shock, this was pure disrespect by the business.

Yelp
I'm glad there's a place dedicated to Taishan cuisine opening on Ocean, but I was quite disappointed. As someone from the area, the food was a far-cry from Taishan flavors. Not saying it's bad per se, but it's not a place I would go a second time. Their signature chicken was a bit bland for the style, and the quality of their chicken was not great. They gave a lot of bone-only pieces for their sweet and sour chicken, which was....interesting? I personally hope they increase the quality so that there's more options around the Ocean neighborhood, but for now, I wouldn't say there's a rush to hit this spot.

Yelp
NEW 4 Days Old! "This spot is a game changer," quipped a dear friend when we "tacked" and changed plans to eat lunch at this newly opened spot Taishan Cuisine sad one 台山風味餐廳, located on 1155 Ocean Avenue in San Francisco CA. "This place is literally in our southwest neighborhood. We no longer need to go to Chinatown to dine at the original location and the food here tastes exactly the same," he added. Literally minutes from my home. And my favorite restaurant to enjoy traditional Taishanese food from Guangdong Province 廣東省. Indeed a game changer. We opted for the hollowing: Eel and Preserved Meat Claypot Rice 黃鱔臘咪煲仔飯. Fresh eels. Super fragrant meats. Perfectly booked crunch scorched rice at the bottom of pot. The ultimate test of a great spot for Taishan food. Taishan Roast Chicken 台山燒雞 Incredibly tasty. Ginger licking hood. Fish Maw and Chicken Soup 蟹肉魚肚羹. Excellent. Hits the spot. Stir Fry Pig Stomach with Ginger and Scallions 薑蔥炒豬肚 Addictively delicious. I can't stop eating this. What a blessing to enjoy food of Taishan in my neighborhood. It so happens that I am half Taishanese on my mother side, a Huang/Wong 黃 from Baisha 白沙. As such, this spot speaks to my soul. My ROOTS. I SHALL RETURN!

Yelp
Excited about a new restaurant opening on Ocean Ave! The clay pot rice is excellent, and my daughter really enjoyed the crispy rice at the bottom of the clay pot, i don't usually see her eat that much. Good food, good service
