In a hidden corner of Las Vegas Chinatown is Taiwan Deli (義美冠軍), one of the city's most (if not, the most) authentic Taiwanese spots. While it might feel divey due to the lack of lighting, it is actually more of a old school vibe with the checkered cloth and gaudy decor. If anything, it feels more like a diner, but Taiwanese. Not to be confused with their southwest sister location (#1), this is the OG spot and has become a go-to option whenever I'm in town.
Despite all the interior decor snafus (think mismatched furniture, tacky chandeliers on industrial ceilings, lots of calligraphy character frames and mini Chinese deity statues prominently featured in the center of the room), there is an undeniable charm that is hard to shake. It is quite group friendly and an easy solo dining spot.
Speaking of solo dining, I would only stick to the breakfast options, such as soybean milk (豆漿) with Chinese donut (油條), along with their sweet/salty rice rolls (飯糰) with mustard greens or peanuts. Their radish cake / omelet (菜脯蛋) is a nice savory choice, and any of their buns make for a solid, carby snack.
Many of their other classic dishes, such as oyster omelette (蚵仔煎), oyster vermicelli (蚵仔麵線), beef noodle soup (牛肉麵), and even Fuzhou style fish balls (福州魚丸湯) are offered, a clear nod to their Minnan roots. The portions are excellent and very sharable. Having dining companions in tow would be highly recommended.
It's not all roses, the soup dumplings (小籠包) are not that fantastic, since they were a tad on the doughy side without much soup. The bathrooms are a major gamble, and sometimes service is a little aloof even if they're friendly.
The prices are always in flux, which is where they'll find themselves in trouble with folks who get a case of sticker shock. Paying in cash will ease some of the burden and speaking any level of Mandarin is certainly better than none at all. I would absolutely kill for a place like this where I'm currently living, but I feel fortunate and envious that Vegas has a Taiwanese gem like this.
