The 38 Best Restaurants in Taipei | Eater

"In Taiwanese Hokkien, the term “tua” refers to a gathering of loved ones over a meal. This unassuming two-story restaurant in the city’s East District feels like the setting of an intimate dinner party, with dim lighting, antique furniture, and bursts of greenery. The food — listed on a hand-lettered menu — is like a homey version of Taiwanese fine dining, with twists on traditional preparations and an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. Think sausage infused with gaoliang (the local sorghum-based liquor), a fried rice-like risotto topped with fish roe, and braised beef with notes of kumquat. To finish off the meal, choose from a selection of French pastries made in-house. [$$$]" - Clarissa Wei

Do dinner myself on a Sunday evening. Was arranged upstairs with nobody dining. The design and atmosphere are great. Restaurant owner asked on my preference for food and made my dish. The starter itself are already amazing. And the first dish is beef stew with spicy and coriander. Taste good. The second comes with steam fish head with spicy on top. No good with taste of mud and the tastes do not Incorporate together. So I did not eat it. The waitress replied that they will make another dish and offer free wine. The third dish comes and that was deep fried vegetable. Nice and tasty. The replacement second dish comes and they was oyster baby on egg cake with marinated bean soy sauce and chili. That was full of favor but a bit saulty. It's already too full so I skip the sweet.

The restaurant serves Taiwanese cuisine with Western elements, and there were definitely some tasty dishes but a few odd dishes. Plates are meant for sharing so bring friends! Ambience is also nice and casual, great for big groups.

Maybe because it's fusion, and it doesn't suit my palate? But being a true blue foodie personally, whether be it cheap eats, or fine dining, fundamentally, great tasting food should whet an appetite Sadly, the positive anticipation turned out to be a "bombed out" experience, with lacklustre flavours for most dishes. Don't get me wrong, the ingredients and produce used were fresh, but that's expected for an establishment of this level. While understandably, the goal was to present an alternative spin on local Taiwanese dishes, be it a more refined reinvention, or perhaps just experimental fusion, what was absent was simplicity in achieving good ol' tasty moments calling for more. We spent NTD8000÷ that evening, not a colossal amount of course, but not exactly cheap either, so it was disappointing to be let down. That said, here are the positive elements of dining at this chic, contemporary restaurant - service was great and attentive, and this considering that the place was a full house while we were there. Dining atmosphere was cosy, and it can easily suit a couple night out on an elegant date, a less informal business dinner, or even families and small groups of friends (we were a mid sized group of 7 pax)

Yap. It's for sure expensive. But it's by far the best Taiwanese fusion food I've ever had in Taipei. I don't really like fusion food because most of them are just terrible. But this one is good. The chef knows cuisines. As we have expected the high price before our visit, we were cool and calm when ordered from the menu. The ambiance and service were great, food was delicious, and the signature dessert was heaven. We only checked the price of the wine to decide to order by glass or a bottle. In the end we ordered a bottle of Shiraz from Spain, which was really good to pair with our food. The average cost per head is about USD50(NTD1500). I think it's fair as the overall experience is satisfactory. Don't come if you only care for food itself and don't care about nice interior or ambiance. But if you appreciate fresh ingredients and nice presentation of the food and other details, you will find this place wonderful.

I think this is a good place for double date or dinner with close friends.. a bit pricey (1200 NTD for the fish) but big portion, easily can be shared with others. Service is good, food is delicious. Atmosphere is great.

Creative Taiwan cuisine. Dessert is exceptionally good (rarely so in restaurants). It's a place where details are taken care off, from cultery, furniture, bathroom, porcelains etc. Eat well and live well.

The food looks much better than previous reviews here. The owner also came to introduce the restaurant's new menu to us. Very welcoming.
