For years, this no‑frills landmark has defined Irving’s chaat scene: skyscraper dosas, dahi puri, and a beloved chutney bar. Celebrated by Dallas Observer and singled out by local critics as a chaat standard‑bearer.

Google
We were looking for a Chicago Pizza place, and this was the spot. From the moment we walked in, we were able to be seated and look over the menu. The man was very kind and helpful with asking about serving sizes and what he recommended. The pizza tasted AMAZING, and our kiddos loved the pasta. The restroom wasn't the cleanest, but the food was out of this world. Will definitely be coming back when we visit Dallas again.

Experience of ordering and dining area is pleasant. Food quality can be improved. The price of the items are reasonable however the Dosa or other South Indian food taste require some improvement. The North Indian snacks tastes good. The staff is nice and ample parking outside. Would like to return here for some chaat options only.

If you're looking for bold flavors, authentic Indian street food, and an unforgettable culinary experience, Tag Chaat House is the place to go. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and the irresistible aroma of freshly prepared spices. The chaat selection is top-notch – perfectly balanced between tangy, spicy, and sweet. Their Dahi Puri is an absolute must-try – crispy shells, flavorful water, and fresh fillings that burst with every bite. I also had the Pav Bhaji, and it was rich, buttery, and packed with flavor, served with soft, toasted buns that were just perfect. The atmosphere is vibrant yet cozy, making it a great spot whether you're grabbing a quick bite or enjoying a relaxed meal with friends. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about the dining experience. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, and everything tasted fresh and authentic. You can tell they put a lot of heart into their food. Highly recommend Tag Chaat House – it's a hidden gem that deserves all the love. I’ll definitely be coming back for more!

I wish I could give zero stars. I ordered from this place expecting a decent meal, but instead, I was served a dead fly buried right in my food. This is not just unacceptable—it’s a complete health hazard. The fact that this passed through the kitchen and was served to a paying customer shows a complete lack of hygiene, quality control, and basic respect for people’s health. I’m shocked and disgusted that any food establishment could allow something like this to happen. Not only did it ruin my appetite, but I had to worry about the health risks after accidentally consuming part of the dish before noticing. There was no accountability, no proper apology, and certainly no standards being followed in that kitchen. If you care about your health and hygiene, do yourself a favor and eat anywhere else. This was the first and definitely the last time I’ll ever order here.

We tried a variety of dishes at Taaj Chaat House — pav bhaji, masala dosa, masala buttermilk, vada pav, and mixed chaat. The dosa and mixed chaat were absolute standouts — 10/10! Highly recommended for those. However, the pav bhaji and vada pav didn’t quite hit the mark for us, and while the masala buttermilk was refreshing, we’ve had better elsewhere. On the plus side, the food came out super fast, the staff was friendly, and the restrooms were clean — which is always appreciated. Definitely worth a visit if you're craving good chaat and dosa!

Google
I ordered a veg thali which cost me $14 with taxes and it’s too much for 1 person. 2 person can eat. Taste wise few items like panner and mix veggies are good but I do know why they give me 2 types of sambhar in 2 bowl that’s why I give 4 star only. Otherwise it’s a good option where 2 people can eat in that amount and quantity is good. Taste is 8/10. Thanks

Google
Taj Chaat House will be the only place I’ll get chaat food from in DFW! I grew up coming to Taj and it’s so refreshing to know the food is still amazing. I hadn’t been in several years and I was very impressed! The live pani puri, vada pav, bhel puri, dosa are a must!!!

Google
This is one of the few all vegetarian/vegan places in Dallas. South Indian food is great in taste. It is relatively cheaper than other Indian food outlets and I would definitely recommend this place. The ambiance is excellent and a must visit. It's not crowded, not noisy around and the cleanliness is maintained well. The tea is served with no sugar and sweetness can be added as per one's preference. Masala dosa and onion uttapam were delicious.

Keshav R.

Yelp
The new management has truly elevated this restaurant. The hospitality was warm and welcoming, the food was fresh and full of flavor, and the ambiance was cozy yet modern. A noticeable improvement all around -- highly recommended!

Yelp
Quick casual Indian restaurant. Good options for vegetarian, no onion no garlic hence the stars...All my food had tamarind and mint (I think) chutney. Wish I ordered coconut chutney. What I ordered (based on Jain menu photo that I found online): Pakoras - good, there's a wait for it if you are ordering out. Had sweet potato, potatoes, snow peas I think. Samosas - okay. I've had better. The crust is okay, filling was good enough flavor with potatoes and peas. I needed the coconut chutney for this Chili paneer: paneer coated with chili sauce and green peppers , very good and I may have eaten too much Next time I'll do dosas The staff taking orders were very helpful and patient with explanations and checking on ingredients. All were very pleasant and calm. The restaurant is pretty big, half filled with tables and the other half probably to accommodate the lines that I assume would form on peak hours. Quick service casual for some items, the pakoras took a long time to come out but the chaat was easy peasy here you go. They mixed it for you but better if you don't if it's a to-go order so it's not soggy. I went at 3 pm on a rainy Saturday and ithe tables slowly filled up though the place was not overly packed. Clean, no funny smell, even with the exposed cooking area. Biased review because dedicated vegetarian resto! Sorry not sorry!

Yelp
I had pani puri/ Dahi puri once before in atlanta and loved it. I've tried it at other places which I didn't like. This place reminds me of what I had before! I'm so glad I found it. Now I'll come back to try their samosa and vada pav.

Yelp
Absolutely Disgusting Experience - Found a Dead fly in my food I wish I could give zero stars. I was horrified to find a DEAD FLY in my food. This is beyond unacceptable for any restaurant or food brand. Not only is it completely unsanitary, but it also made me feel sick immediately after. The fact that this made it to my plate shows there's no proper hygiene or quality control in place. I will NEVER order from here again and will be warning friends, family, and social media followers. Absolutely appalling. Filthy, unsafe, unhygienic, ruined my appetite, potential health risks.

Yelp
Good products, varieties and service. Good for South Indian fare. Acceptable self service.

Yelp
Taj Chaat House is definitely my go to spot for some paani puri and aloo tiki chaat in the metroplex. You cannot go wrong with any of their dishes. They have been consistent in their taste and quality over the years, which is commendable. The staff members are friendly and efficient in taking the orders and preparing the food. Self service is the best way to keep the restaurant affordable. Parking can get tricky in the evenings and weekends given there are other establishments that get busy as well. The restaurant has been renovated and gives it a fresh new feel. Pricing : Moderate.

Yelp
Awesome spinach dal and chili paneer! I don't know how I never came here. This is going to be my new staple.

Yelp
Service was quick as always! Ordered bhel Puri and malai kofta with Methi Paratha and Gobi Paratha. It was served with pulao rice and raita. Malai kofta was very average! Paratha was delicious! Bhel Puri was very refreshing.
google avatar

Neha B.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and it's still my favorite spot. I highly recommend the pani puri and the dahi puri. Their dosas are also so amazing and definitely try the different lassis.

Yelp
Great authentic Indian food and samosas. Service is very nice. I can't remember what I got, but it was the platter that comes with everything that includes a variety of soups, curries, rice, naan, and desserts. Great place for a family dinner.

Himanshu P.

Yelp
Pain puri was absolutely awful! Potato and black Chana had no masala and puri were stale ! Will not recommend any more.

Tanya D.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this place. It's just an inconspicuous place in a strip shopping center, but the young woman at the counter was nice and the good was tasty. It's is counter service, no wait staff, but worth a visit.
google avatar

Thaung M.

Yelp
Help! Can't stop eating. And every iteration of my visit the place keeps getting better. And today was the pinnacle: the nice old ladies running the place gave me a bunch of things on the house! Chai, spiced rice and free flow of sambar. They've been doing a better job too over the years. Better customer service. Better food. And they're doing a better job on cleanliness now too! Dosas are nice and crispy. And wafting of fresh ghee. And bahture is also thick and chewy. Definitely coming back soon.

Yelp
Great snack food!! Often get takeout and also dine when I want a quick snack on a weekend. Taste is pretty authentic to mumbai food

Yelp
Authentic Satvik comfort food. A must visit for an amazing experience. Staff is very good We loved the Thali and sev dahi batata puri.
google avatar

Cri S.

Yelp
Really good comfort food. If youre a beginner, I recommend the cheese dosa and masala dosa. Big portions, tasty perfect crisp flavors accompanied with a lentil soup and sauce. Will definitely come back to try the rest.

Jasmin K.

Yelp
This review might be a bit biased since I've lived in the area for a long time and have a nostalgic fondness for the place. It is very clean and the staff is friendly. I can't say much for the rest of the menu since I always get one of the chaat's, but they always hit the spot whenever I'm craving something sweet and savory! The portions are fair for the price, and it makes for a nice lunch whether alone or with friends. Would recommend their chaats!

Yelp
This place is my fave for Gol Guppe! They have a stand, which not only is tasty but it transforms you back to authentic standing Gol Guppe stands!!

Yelp
Dallas proper really needs some better Indian places! Taj Chaat House is all the way in Irving, but it's a great place to grab some authentic Indian food. I went with some friends during lunch and the food was fairly cheap, so you can definitely have a filling meal for less than $10. I had the palak paneer and it was great! It tasted kind of like how I'd imagine a grandmother's homemade version would taste. Taj Chaat House is a pretty quiet place as well, except for after temple finishes, and a lot of people come to grab a bite of food. If you come pretty much at other times during the day, it will be emptier and seating will be plentiful. One of my gauges for the authenticity of a restaurant is how it is received by people of the same ethnicity or people growing up eating similar food. Having been introduced to Taj Chaat House with the praise of my south Indian friend and seeing a lot of presumably Indian customers also enjoying their food, I knew that I was in a good place. Will definitely come by again when I have the cravings of Indian food!

Yelp
If you want to go here for "JAIN" food then be aware. Horrible experience today 11/25/2023. We ordered jain food and we found ONION while eating. When we went to the counter and asked about this here is the response. Lady who prepared and served it said with a rude attitude that she didn't added onion. As they keep onion and jain food stuffs at one place it's got added. What do u mean by this ?? Seriously this is ur response?? If you have a JAIN food in the menu then u better serve it with what it means for. Next when we talked with their manager she blow our mind with even rudest than the previous lady. Managers first response is "do u need refund?" What the hell is this. If a manger behaves like this then why their staff will care about not putting onion in a jain food. Just imagine this before you go to this place for JAIN food.

Yelp
A hole in the wall gem for Indian food.Proces are reasonable and food was tasty!A good mix of south and North Indian cuisine.

Yelp
Went to this for the first time. We ordered Dahi puri, masala dosa, and coconut water. This place is 3.5 star. Worth eating lunch on a day or visit for an afternoon snack. The dahi puri was fresh, however, it had a missing taste in the chutneys added. The tamarind taste was not visible to my taste buds and some dried spice along with chutneys was missing. Nonetheless a good snack. The masala dosa was great in texture. Make sure you get crispy. However, the masala or potatoes lacked a hint of spice and flavor which is needed in masala dosa. The sambar was delicious, and the coconut and peanut chutney that came with it were great as well. A thing I appreciate about a place like this is fresh coconut juice straight from the coconut. I'd go there again just for this as well. Overall a good experience.

Yelp
We loved the food in Taj Chaat House. Their Pani Puri was fantastic! Would recommend this restaurant and is a MUST TRY !!!!!!!!

Yelp
One of the best places in Dallas for chaat(Indian street food). All-Vegetarian restaurant, i LOVE being able to order ANYTHING on the menu. Not expensive, less than $10 is what it takes to leave you stuffed. The dosas here are good as well, though am not a fan of their potato bhaji that comes with masala dosa. 99% authentic. They serve 'burger buns' bhaji and call it 'pav' bhaji so that explains it. So here's how the ordering process goes. Doesn't get any more casual than this. -Order at the counter and you are given a buzzer. -Collect your food when the buzzer lights up and vibrates. If you have ordered more than one item, you might have to leave the table more than once. -Help yourselves to a variety of sambar, chutneys and pickles while dining in. -Remember to return the buzzer on your way out. What makes me give them 3 stars? I have been here several times and till date, nothing other than the chaat has actually impressed me. - The stuffed parathas have always been disappointing. - The thali that i tried came out piping hot but didn't taste fresh. - I was once served rice that was so dry and dehydrated, it shouldn't have made it onto the plate. From the looks of it, the restaurant doesn't look inviting but it does look better on the inside than it does on the outside. I haven't had trouble finding clean tables even on busy days. Food is always out pretty quick.

Suriya S.

Yelp
This is THE BEST chaat in all of dfw!! The prices are very reasonable and the food tastes amazing. They used to have other locations but I belive this is the only location remaining. I have never had pani puri as good as this in the US before. They also had a pani puri station pre covid where they'd serve it to you at the counter but they no longer have that. Unfortunately, the location near me is closed now but this is well worth the drive!
google avatar

Michellea D.

Yelp
The buffet was bland. The tikka masala was watered down. The restrooms were old and not very clean. I was not impressed with the food and will not come back. However, the wait staff was nice and filled water and tea quickly.

Yelp
First off, I don't know Indian food, at least in this setting which my Indian guide calls "street food". Use pictures add a reference and get an Indian buddy to food translate for you b/c it's not easy to order imo! But from what I recall, we ordered ASAP since the freshly made food can take awhile. Then we gathered sauces for dipping. Then, the food arrived -- all of it vegetarian and delicious, albeit the flavor is not something I could eat every day (would get bored of it). The highlights for me were first the dosa (big pancake-looking thing folded in half), which I thought was enormous but was apparently very average in size. The filing on the inside was perfection, and during the wait, I noticed they even offer "dosa parties". Please send me an invite if you ever choose to do this. Second, was this DIY stuffing that I forgot the name of, but as the pictures show, grab your little cute puff, add the beans and potato, and lastly pour a little of the mildly sweet sauce. Extremely refreshing, delicious, and messy if your aim is bad ;) In summary, check this place out if you want more street-style Indian food, but make sure you have ample time to wait!
google avatar

Dipesh P.

Yelp
Gone downhill. This used to be our go to for fast street Indian food (pro tip: don't eat street Indian food in India unless your stomach and you are looking for a beat down). We came here this weekend and were so looking forward to our visit since we were in the burbs at a friends bday party. We don't venture out to the burbs often but when we do we pair it with a visit to some of the best world foods dallas has to offer. In this case: Pav bhaji (sp?). They were out! Who runs out of the staple dish at your restaurant? We were sad. Got some cheese dosa instead which was good but not the same. We out.

Yelp
This place is a typical Indian chaat house. Ethnically I'm Indian so once in awhile I start craving Indian food. We found this place when we drove past it on New Year's Day. The place looked busy so we thought we should try it. Don't come here if you are looking for a clean calm lunch. It's extremely loud and you're going to get in everyone's way walking to a table. They herd you like cattle here. You come in and stand in a crunched up line that blocks the front door and order quickly when you get to the front. The guy working at the counter will without a doubt not treat you with great customer service and he'll look annoyed when you pause at any point of your order. It's great! You'll feel like you're really in India! The food is cheap and authentic. They have a huge selection to choose from. I was a bit annoyed when I ordered chole bhattura and the guy said they won't start serving that till 2 hours later. Literally 5 min later I hear them yelling chole bhattura and someone's ticket number a customer picks up chole bhattura. I'm a clean freak so I didn't feel comfortable here but the authentic food was worth the discomfort.

Yelp
I don't know where to begin! me and my friends wanted to have a pani puri, we've never been before to this place, so unfortunately we went in and paid for 3 panipuri. Our order number was 22.......we waited more than 10 minutes. And my friend had to stand there and follow up about our order. Like WTF! Never had to do this before, and there weren't lot of people there either.... Your pani puri is of 3 ingredients, well, there's puri (thankgod) and potato(omg its our lucky day) and chana (holycrap we are gonna make the store go bankrupt..NEWSFLASH local store going bankrupt in the process of providing the world's worst Pani puri to the people of Irving) and there's pani puri water (what did we do to deserve this, its like winning a lottery) *We had as ask for Onions....in which part of world does panipuri doesn't include onions I could hear the cleaning worker grunt....why would you have your cleaner in such a bad mood? are you not paying them? anyways...thats that, don't go there guys unless you want THE WORLD's WORST PANIPURI!
google avatar

Soumya C.

Yelp
Not good not bad. Super cheap food. So no complains. Tried their food 3 times and the Taste is consistent . Well behaved people.
google avatar

Roshani A.

Yelp
Taj house is a really amazing place to get Crispy Dosa, my favorite is the Mysore dosa. I also love the chat menu, I typically get a sev puri. That atmosphere Is very open, and the service is great
google avatar

Saavi S.

Yelp
They took away the sambar bar/achaar and chutney bar. The was the best thing about this place now they charge you extra for more sambar and do not offer half the chutneys that they used too. It's extremely disappointing.
google avatar

Henry A.

Yelp
Ehhh. Not bad. Kinda cool little place to get quick bite to eat. Chaat only vegetarian. Food seemed fresh. Dosa's was available. Under $10. Not a full restaurant. For mini meals only. Stuff like Chole Batura, roti, dosa, idli, vada pav, etc.. Definitely not a fancy place for food. Standard Indian chaat only. Decent Indian tea and coffee

Deepti P.

Yelp
Like the name suggests, Chaat is really their USP. Other food may be mediocre to good. They do have a huge menu to satisfy every craving. But Chaat, esp Dahi Puri, Samosa Chaat, Bhel Puri are excellent. Don't go expecting a fancy setting and this will not disappoint. It offers value for money for budget eating out trips.
google avatar

Haiden T.

Yelp
This was my first Indian Chaat experience. I came with my vegetarian Indian friend. I live just a few minutes down the road, and I'm very glad. There was barely anyone there, but with the pandemic, it wasn't surprising.. dining rooms have just started opening back up. The only rough thing was the lack of A/C. We were dripping sweat. Not sure if it's broken or if they purposely turned it off to save on electricity. I did, however, really enjoy all the flavors of the indian street food. I loved the masala dosa, samosa chaat, and pani puri. Can't wait to try other items!
google avatar

Omer M.

Yelp
This place is very good if you purely coming here for a nice, refreshing snack and nothing else. If you come here with anymore expectations other than that you will be dissatisfied. The food is excellent, especially the chaat and panini puri. Also they have complimentary soup which also tastes excellent. With that said, the restaurant is very chaotic. It is very crowded(at least when I came) and picking up your food is rather confusing. Furthermore, it was a little stuffy and humid in the restaurant. However, despite the mediocre ambiance the food taste as well as the very cheap price will keep me coming back!
google avatar

Venkatesan T.

Yelp
Heard this place is very good for Chaat ( Especially Pani Puri) from one of my colleagues and decided to try it. We went to there on Friday around 8pm and I should say the restaurant is really busy. There were lot of people and we finally ordered Pani Puri, Dahi vada Chaat, Paneer Dosa, Malai Kofta. The chaat are really awesome - I would give 4/5 for the chat especially the Pani Puri which was really good. The Dahi vada Chaat was okayish because the vada was not so fresh but overall flavor was good. The Paneer Dosa was not so good ( The Dosa was crispy and nice) but the Paneer masala had only red chilli and had only spicy flavor with so much oil. The Malai Kofta was definitely not upto the level and not good at all. The tandoori roti was good. Overall - Chaat items definitely good and would suggest this place but definitely not for other items
google avatar

Harshit J.

Yelp
Well this place is like 2.5ish rather than 2. Good: You can get a hell lot of cheap Indian food, for 25$ we got a pav bhaji, two masala chai, one gobhi manchurian with rice, raita and one big naan and mix uthapam. Couple that with unlimited sambhar(two types) and 4 types of chutneys. Chai was good too. Okish: On food, mix uthapam was good, sambhar was unlimited but not great. chutneys were good too, not out of the world. Naan was really good. Bad: Gobi manchurian was the worst I had in my life. Rice and rayta are provided though not great either. Pav bhaji is like a masala potato slurry, but tastes ok. Forget about ambiance it's something to be left out completely. In short, if you are looking to save money and eat okish Indian food, this might be the place.
google avatar

Sonu S.

Yelp
Horrible please do not ask for review. Their pav bhaji looks and test plain aloo smashed and applied red mirch powder thats all. Pav were burnt totally. I don't know how they can serve such food to customer. Their dosa was ok but pav bhaji i am still feeling bad from inside because me, my husband and my brother we ordered three plates pav bhaji . We wasted it and ate at honest restaurant.
google avatar

Chandan K.

Yelp
Best paani poori in the whole town. Their paranthas and samosas are good too. It's very simple food and most of the items are made fresh.
google avatar

Tyler Y.

Yelp
Pros: Its authentic Indian food. It does taste very good as well. Cons: the restaurant is slightly dirty, it is somewhat expensive, and the customer service is absolutely awful.
google avatar

Madira M.

Yelp
Excellent authentic spicy and flavorful Indian food. Practically licked my plate. Love the free sambar and chutney bar. Had paneer rava dosa that was crispy and delicious. Samosa chaat was sweet and sour and spicy. Only things not perfect - the place is a little old and ricketty. And they can never seem to coordinate your order. We ordered 5 things and got them in 5 different installments. But dang! I'll eat on floor for food that good!!
google avatar

Jaishree S.

Yelp
We ordered Paneer Butter Masala Curry with plain parathas. They gave frozen paratha which was very hard to chew. Curry was also tasteless. Another dish we ordered was - Rava masala dosa, which was ok ok. Next we ordered veggie burger. We had one bite of it and couldn't dare to have next. We could only eat Rava masala dosa, rest we had to leave as it is. Very bad experience.

Yelp
I was so heart broken when we realized we will not be able to visit this place during our Dallas trip. But then stars got aligned and we got to visit this place ;) Our flight got delayed and we wanted to eat something before take off. And this place is not far from airport so everything worked out well. Entered around 4 pm on a Tuesday evening, place was empty with only 2 customers eating their food. We ordered 2 vada pav for us and 2 pani puri for our friends. With pani puri they had the option of eating it at the counter(India style ;)) or eating at your table. We went with the option of eating it at the counter. Me and hubby just had one piece, our friends had the rest of them. The pani in pani puri was so cold that I had a brain freeze so I am surely not a fan :D During hot summers this might be an ideal option but in winters I will clearly stay away from cold chaat items :D Within 10 mins we got our vada pavs, which were more like mumbai burgers. Different but delicious!! By now we had worked up our appetite so we ordered a masala dosa. It was huge! Me and my husband ate most of it. This place offers self-serve sambhars and chutneys. They had 2 varieties of sambhars; one hot spicy and other one medium spicy. We tried both and medium spicy was our favorite. I loved their coconut chutney and had some of it with the vada pav too..lol. And they had fried chilies, raw onions that you can eat with your vada pav making it extra delicious. For south indian items, they have so many chutneys that you will surely have hard time making a selection. I am glad that we got to visit this place during our trip to dallas. Highly recommended for delicious Indian food.

Pallas E.

Yelp
Oh. My. Goodness. Literally the best indian food ever. We are obsessed with this place. It's perfectly spicy, fills us up every time, and we feel so awake and so good after eating here. The people who work there are so incredibly friendly, and remember that we are vegan every time we go in. They take their time to make vegan dishes for us. I absolutely love it! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the styrofoam and plastic everything. That's the only thing I would change, because styrofoam can't biodegrade and I don't think the plastic is recycled. So it's not very environmentally friendly. But maybe that will change, and if it does, we will definitely give 5 stars!

Jaime R.

Yelp
Very flavorful, well prepared food. Clean restaurant. Authentic dishes in an economical setting. (Paper plates and plastic utensils) My Bombay Masala Dosa was perfectly crisp outside and tender inside. Fresh ingredients make for a tasty meal! The hot spicy Sambhar was excellent, as were the chutneys. I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Darshan P.

Yelp
When I entered it smelled different, that I don't like. I ordered the Plain Dosa (crispy). wasnt that crispy. The dosa itself was different shape than it was!
google avatar

Grace P.

Yelp
Paneer butter masala with one mulli (daikon) and one methi (fenugreek) paratha with spicy sambar soup and ALL the chutneys! So rich and so tasty, I forget that I'm not eating any meat. I'm sad that they got rid of the paneer manchurian dish, but I can deal.
