"Indian restaurants tend to know their way around a worthwhile lunch buffet but at Taj Mahal you might be staring at the best one in the city. At $8.95 this 15-item, all-you-can-eat buffet is an Encino legend and the perfect way to seek midweek revenge on your cubicle neighbor who you hate anyways. Want restaurant and bar intel like this delivered straight to your inbox? We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Its a nice cosy indian restaurant on the first floor of a commercial complex in front of Ralph's. We came in here for dinner and the restaurant was completely empty, not a single soul so i got a bit skeptical but went ahead and ordered some food as i was really hungry. We got chicken makhani, coconut fish curry , garlic naan and taj mahal special naan . I loved the food , the preparation was really good, taste was authentic. Fish curries can be tricky but they did it right . The only thing i would say is quantity could be tad more than what the prices are put up for. The garlic naan was good , I didn't like the Taj Mahal special naan , it was kinda bland , kinda raw on the sides and didn't quite come out for me , i would skip that when here. Overall nice visit .

Google
Great Indian food around the area that I would highly recommend. Personally had the Channa masala and it was a major hit. Fair pricing and average service, but the food was outstanding. The ambiance was a bit quiet but it hardly mattered.

Google
Super delicious food! We ordered chicken tikka masala, some garlic naan and mixed tandoori. Everything was very tasty! They also have good selections of Indian beers!

Google
Best Indian food (especially their vegetarian menu) in Los Angeles. Their flavors are so rich and unlike any of the dime a dozen Indian restaurants in LA. This may be due to their North Indian recipes that differ from the common South Indian flavors that are in most restaurants. Their food is simply incomparable and I’ve grown up eating Indian food from all the local hot spots. If you’re unsure of where to go- you MUST try this place.

Google
Came here for lunch Buffet on Thursday, couple things I like here: very clean, actually it’s like fancy place; very few ppl, so it’s a quiet place; price is pretty affordable; authentic Indian food

If I could give zero stars, I would! My family and I came into this establishment a few days ago to have dinner. Mind you, it was a bit late, but the restaurant had a good while before closing. I’m not sure if it was due to that reason or what, but the staff there were so incredibly rude. From the second we walked in, the tension in the air was felt. No warm welcome or greeting and we were just pointed to where we should sit. From sitting to ordering, the same attitude persisted and it just messes up the entire mood of the family dinner. The food was alright too! Since we were the only people there and sitting close to the kitchen, we could hear microwaves going off in the back. Save the trouble and money and go else where. I’d like to recommend a few in downtown, Santa Monica and the Hollywood area.

Google
This place had lots of recommendations. I don't get it. The staff is the coldest, most unfriendly restaurant people I have ever seen. Worse, I think they are all one family, which means they have to have this small biz survive. The naan was the worst I've ever had, and the rest was only ok.

Google
Bad 1. When I called a man answered I ordered 4 items and told him I wanted to use the promo 20% off. He sounded confused and then told me he'd check the website. When I get there a lady says, no you have to print it. There is no barcode even to print. I showed her on the phone and she said no you have to print. It's promo. Of course it a promo. That's why I'm here. So she charged me full price and said bring the print out next time. Ummm no there won't be a next time. You'd rather charge full price and lose a returning customer than grant the promo which worked and get me back. Great business 👏. 2. Cheap containers that are meant for pasta or sandwiches are not to be used for curry, spills and complete mess everywhere. Good 1. Atmosphere was decorated nicely 2. Looked very clean 3. Food was above average but nothing extraordinary.

Yelp
I hope they will reopen soon!! Any updates of a pending location? They truly had the best Indian Food!!!

Amanda D.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I think this place closed down! They had the best Indian buffet I've ever had. I hope they open somewhere else soon.

Yelp
The food is amazing but never ever hot enough. Cold food all the time. Too bad. Great taste not hoy. Turn the damb temp up.

Yelp
New favorite spot! So good, we went back two nights in a row. My husband and I have been on the hunt for Indian food in our neighborhood and Wendy been able to find what we liked until now. The food is so good! I ordered the eggplant and potato dish on night 1, followed by the mixed veg curry on night two. My husband got the veggie korma both nights. We tried three different naans. Everything was incredible. Plus the staff is very kind and attentive. I am so happy we found Taj Mahal and I can't wait to return.

C S.

Yelp
I cannot wait for Taj Mahal to reopen in a new location! The food is excellent and the people are great. I wish there was a way to get notified when they reopen.

Laura P.

Yelp
I hope they reopen. We were customers for 20+ years. We loved it! I am soooooo sad. I hope they come back!

Helen C.

Yelp
Second meal! This time I had the Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala and pappadum as my appetizer. Also ordered a mango lassi. Everything was fresh and delicious with nice portions. I loved the mint sauce that came with the pappadum. My meal was prepared quickly and the mango lassi was exactly the right amount of sweet. Will be back again soon!

Yelp
This place is awesome! I tried Indian cuisine through work. I fell I love with their delicious food! The mixed vegetables pakora with the tamarind dip sauce is Awesome restaurant and amazing food. Feels so cozy!! Food is always on point with its flavor! Definitely a favorite when in the mood for Indian food! Saag Paneer

Yelp
As long-time supporters of Taj Mahal in Encino, we were devastated to read it might be "permanently closed." We have tried other Indian restaurants and Taj Maha's cuisine is far superior. The authentic, complex flavors and time-honored methods of preparation are simply the best (short of traveling to India). We hope to be able to continue enjoying Taj Mahal, with its original staff, in its new location.

Tom R.

Yelp
Hello Dev, I certainly hope you're opening up in a new location. Your food is by far better than any in the SFV . I had a friend stop by your restaurant today , and he broke the bad news to me . Best of luck! Tom R

Yelp
Love this place! They cook their food to actual perfection. I've tried a few of the usuals like tandoori chicken, samosas, etc. which are all flavor packed and just so good! Most recently my friends and I decided to go all out on our favorite - chicken tikka masala ( butter chicken) and garlic naan. We all left happy, completely empty plates. My brother and some friends drank mango lassi which they loved, some got refills. I got an Indian tea which was so delicious. Went home so fulfilled and fully content! Can't wait to go back!

Jessica P.

Yelp
Any updates on a new location? We miss you and hope to enjoy your food again soon. It was truly the best in LA

John C.

Yelp
Chicken inside the masala was grilled first and tasted very nicely. As for the chicken biryani, it was one of the best for sure! The waitress was so kind and attentive when she brought our food out. Interior seems very outdated, but it doesn't matter because the food was so satisfying. I recommend!

Maddie V.

Yelp
I've been eating at Taj Mahal for over 20 years. They have never let me down. At the end of Dec 2023 we called to find out they were closed. You know that feeling when you're wanting ice cream and someone already ate it. Same thing. We had hoped that it was for the holidays. We ordered from a place in Northridge and it sucked. I want my Taj Mahal back and back now.

Anita Y.

Yelp
Great food and great service! The staff was super nice. The food was authentic. Highly recommended.

O M.

Yelp
There's no better Indian food in the valley, period! I've dined inside seldomly but have been ordering take out from Taj Mahal for over 20 years. Outstanding and authentic food that has never declined in quality and flavor.

Lila G.

Yelp
I've been trying to find a place that serves Indian food as good as theirs and I haven't been able to. I hope they re-open in August 2024 like it says on the yelp page.

John M.

Yelp
The food is tasty. We ordered several dishes all were good. I ordered lamb vindalo hot not much spice. Do not order online the prices are higher.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place if you want to have amazing Indian food. It's super delicious & very tasteful. Service is good, the wait for the food is not long at all so that's a plus. I had lamb mushrooms, chicken tikka masala, rice & naan ALL WERE AMAZING!!!

Mary-Joyce P.

Yelp
Lacked flavor. For Indian food I expected more flavor and heat. That's all I gotta say.

Rebekah S.

Yelp
Miss our local Taj Mahal and hope they reopen soon. Such great food every single time.

Connie M.

Yelp
The food and service is very good but it is very overpriced. I think a bowl of oatmeal is over $20 and that's the least expensive item on the menu.

Nabi M.

Yelp
This is too tasty to describe in words. You should try. I'm not big fan of Indian cuisine, but my wife is. Man, turns out I just haven't tried real good one. Food from this place is so tasty I wasn't able to stop. Not kidding. It's just perfect!

Max A.

Yelp
My favorite Indian Restaurant ever!! Nothing beats this food. Always consistent. Great service as well.

Linda C.

Yelp
Taj Mahal restaurant is amazing and is located at the second floor of Wall Street Village right across Ralph's supermarket. Definitely the best Indian food in the San Fernando Valley! We ordered several dishes, each with their unique taste, worth trying when looking for wonderful Indian food. The dishes came out beautifully and were gorgeous. Servers were great, very nice and attentive. The chicken tandoori is beautifully cooked. Also we ordered the eggplant bartha. This eggplant dish is well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Complemented and enjoyed very well with the rice and garlic oregano naan bread. Then we tried the coconut curry lamb. That is also a delicious dish. Very well seasoned. Absolutely loved that dish too. The two orders of Naan garlic oregano bread is also excellent. We also tried this cheese dish with sauce and is also very very good. I did forget the name of this dish, and is also super yummy. Will definitely will continue to explore their wonderful dishes. If I can give them beyond 5 stars I would. Thank you!

Brinda S.

Yelp
Food was exceptional and fresh! Tandoori chicken, rice, naan, saag paneer, chutneys all delish. -1 star because staff was kind of weird to us lol

Beatrix R.

Yelp
Best Indian food in the valley! Never disappoints. It's essentially home cooked food. Can't wait till it reopens. Done in, take out, either way an exceptional experience.

Yelp
I have been eating at Indian restaurants for decades and know places in Chicago and Las Vegas that are superb, and Taj Mahal really serves some excellent Indian food! We went on a very hot San Fernando Valley night and the restaurant was cool and spotless. Very inviting and relaxing. They serve cold beer in a frosted glass which pairs perfectly with the entrees. We ordered traditional items that I have had many times but Taj Mahal serves their version that is not too greasy or spicy (if that's how you want it). Each item is perfectly prepared with quality ingredients and elegant presentation. We totally enjoyed Taj Mahal and will be back for more!

Sean S.

Yelp
Been coming here for 20+ years. This place has some of the best lunch buffet Indian food I've ever had. It has all of your Indian staples that you'd wanna eat. Their bread is phenomenal. Are usually change it to the garlic naan. Can't say I've ever been here and left disappointed.

Madeline S.

Yelp
Very impressed with the excellent dishes. Everything we had was good, but the baingan bharta and the butter chicken were exceptional. The richness and smokiness was so delicious that I think I'm going to have to order it again this week! So glad I tried this place. Will definitely be my go-to Indian restaurant from now on. Also, service was pleasant and timely. They reviewed my order with me when I came to pick it up, which I appreciate.

Vig S.

Yelp
Food was delivered fast through door dash. We ordered several items. They came piping hot and at the desired level of spice (mild). The kids loved it. We all enjoyed the food. Servings are right sized. We had ordered enough so no complaints. Each main dish came with a side of rice. This was a pleasant surprise since we had not ordered that.

Ana J.

Yelp
Love this little family restaurant, food was amazing we asked for recommendations, tried Chicken tikka masala and coconut curry even the mango yogurt drink was delicious. The auntie running the store is so helpful, will be back soon

Rhon L.

Yelp
This is the best Indian food. Can't beat the perfect dishes served. Hands down beats any other Indian Restaurant around. Please let us know if and where you relocate! We'll be there!

Linda C.

Yelp
This place has amazing food. Love the service, and the mango lassi is the great. We really enjoyed our meal, and everything is very delicious. Dishes came out beautifully, and the aroma is great. Even ordered additional 8 additional potato balls to take home. Thank you for the amazing and delicious Indian food.

Don L.

Yelp
Delicious. I ordered chicken saag (chicken and spinach) to go with basmati rice. It was fantastic. I can't quite describe the flavor except to say that it was refined, subtle, and satisfying. The basmati rice was perfect and the condiments fresh and flavorful. They all tasted house-made, and most likely were.

Ezra Ann Grace S.

Yelp
Ordered delivery with some friends. The portions were good and they serve with plenty of rice. Samosas were tasty. I would definitely recommend the chicken tikka masala it is very good with naan bread on the side! My friend did order a mango lassi but it was abit watered down tasting though. Besides that I would order again.

Abhisek C.

Yelp
We ordered a takeout during Christmas holidays. Ambience was good inside when we went inside to get our order. The fish appetizer was really good. But the other foods, like chicken kadhai and lamb dopiyaza was horrible in taste. Even the Naans were chewy. Our orders were more than $100. As per their website, we requested to honor a 20% coupon code, but that was denied as we didn't have the printed copy of it - even though their website didn't say anything about having printed copy to get the discount.

Karim H.

Yelp
Great authentic Indian food, love the spices!! The selection on their menu can't fail whatever your appetite is. The team here has the best service we've experienced in a while, in an age where the public are just so tempered, this restaurant strives for something different. We got the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Vindaloo, Lamb Vindaloo, Biryani and Garlic Naan, not to mention the Samosa as well. Our family just loved them all and we'll be coming back.

Michelle H.

Yelp
We had food ordered online via their website. It was seamless and easy, fortunately we live within 3 miles from the restaurant so food arrived very hot and fresh! Got the specialty Taj Mahal naan, garlic naan, butter chicken, and lamb special. Each item was delicious and there was enough portioned for seconds which is great during COVID lockdown. Delivery was courteous in placing the food and notifying us food had been placed per our request to grab at distance. So we appreciate how clean, courteous, and delicious this entire dinner came out to be. Will definitely order from here again! And hopefully when this all blows over, have dinner in person at the restaurant.

Yelp
Lorrin suggested for lunch considering We frequent home towne buffet. What a beautiful place so much food and beautiful restaurant. The traditional Indian restaurant this is not the case. Plenty of tables make sure you come early since its gets going with folks enjoying an Indian cuisine lovely place great atmosphere for business dates and romantic meals. They offer Sunday brunch with a sterling selection the curry chicken and noodles with peas are awesome. Thank you kind regards Dr.G

Amanda A.

Yelp
We love Taj Mahal and adored their amazing lunch buffet (as of this writing, they haven't brought it back because buffets are still not permitted in LA County). Since they've opened back up for dine-in, we decided to come in for Sunday lunch, where they offer their full menu as well as a Lunch Specials menu. We got the Chicken Tikka Masala and Vegetable Korma lunch specials-- choice of naan or rice, choice of raita or salad. Today it also came with Channa Masala and Aloo Mattar (see photos). It was delicious and I loved having that bit of variety!

Sasha T.

Yelp
SERIOUSLY AMAZING....... My job and I are stuckkkkk on this place!!!! Everything was soooo flavorful and absolutely delicious. The man was beautifully crispy and soft and buttery. The chicken Marsala was buttery and to die for! The chicken roti I believe was delicious so much flavor and we asked for hot and it was spicyyyyy but DANK! We tell them how spicy we want it and they deliver. We loved this place so much we tried to order again the next day lol! Unfortunately they weren't open so we tried somewhere else same food but did not compare at all to this place. The Samosas were nice a crispy perfect flavor! Sauces were amazing. I'm obsessed.

Keri Q.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Indian food, and it did not disappoint. Don't let looks fool you. The place was completely void of customers, which we didn't think was a good sign, but the food we had was out of this world. I'm sure when they bring back their buffet, business will be booming!

Sonny D.

Yelp
Finally got around to trying this spot during my week of Indian Food craving and while good, I still stand by Indian Masala House down the road on Ventura Blvd. Don't get me wrong - this place is good, and I'd rate this place a 4.5 but since I can't, I'm rounding up. It's deserving though. The service and food is tasty and delightful. The naan bread is fluffy and not burnt like some places, packs a good flavor and the Chicken Mahkani dish was very flavorful and thick, vs being thin and soupy with lackluster flavor encountered elsewhere. I wish they used a little more meat and spice (I asked for Medium) in their dishes. They're missing the same wallop of a punch that Indian Masala House delivers with their dishes, but this place is a strong runner-up and I prefer it over other local Indian restaurants in the area. Nevertheless - Taj Mahal delivers with authentic ingredients and spices and it supersedes dishes from Anarbagh (also down the Ventura block). Not only is the food solid, they have an amazing 2nd floor view and setting for in-house visits or quick take-out orders. ENJOY!

Eric T.

Yelp
Food was good but portions were ridiculously small (especially the Tikka Masala)! I understand we're in the middle of an inflation, but we shouldn't have still been hungry after finishing the meal especially after how much we spent on it. The basmati rice should have a smaller portion since we didn't have enough food to go with it and ended up just throwing it out. Very wasteful. And it shouldn't be required to choose raita or a small salad with the Saag Paneer. Someone needs to review the menu and make some major changes and, until then, I definitely won't be ordering from them. What a disappointment!

Antoni H.

Yelp
Best in the valley, possibly all of LA! Highly recommend!!! This is a must have if you are in the area. My family has been coming here for 20 years!

Claudia D.

Yelp
I definitely don't recommend this place. I was in the mood for some delicious Indian food and unfortunately my favorite place closes on Sunday so I decided to try Taj Mahal. I was very disappointed. I had ordered the Chicken tikka masala and the saag paneer. The tikka masala only had 4 pieces of chicken and the saag paneer was so flavorless. Not to mention the samosas we ordered were extra hard. It was like they were double fried! It was hart to bite into. I was just very disappointed. We spent $50+ for this food and it wasn't even worth it.

E B.

Yelp
Walked into take out to encountered full on attitude elderly lady. No hello just look " Dine in" . She made comment " read menu properly" instead of explaining menu!!! Instead of thanking you for order / business " your order is ready and throws it on the table and walks away! No utensils neither napkins for order to go!!!! No wonder there are only two people in the restaurant. Just stay away and save your money!!! Not worth with full on attitude lady!!!!
