"Despite the name, Takagi Coffee has a lot more going on than just caffeine. This minimalist Japanese cafe serves fluffy pancakes, omurice, Japanese-style pastas, and burgers with ginger and wasabi. There’s a display of coffee beans from around the world, and by the end of the month, they’ll also be rolling out Japanese beers. We recently visited Takagi Coffee. Read our thoughts." - cathy park

"Calling Takagi a coffee shop doesn’t do it justice. Yes, this cafe chain from Osaka takes its coffee seriously—there’s a whole display of beans and origins at the front—but it’s just as committed to brunch, serving souffle pancakes, burgers, pasta, and rice plates in a space that looks like a modern kissaten. We’d send you here for the enjoyable rice dishes, especially the one with a not-too-dense hamburger steak in demi-glace, and the omurice, draped with a silky egg. As for the pancakes on every table? They aren’t quite as light or fluffy as the ones you’ve seen jiggling on influencer trips to Japan, but piled high with berries and drenched in syrup, they’re a decent sweet breakfast to pair with your single-origin Sulawesi Toraja. Food Rundown photo credit: Cathy Park Hamburger Steak This is essentially a Japanese version of steak frites (it even comes with a side of miso soup). The hamburger steak has a nice seared crust, and the meat is light and fluffy enough to sponge up all the sweet demi-glace sauce. The fries could use a bit more salt, but you won't mind if you dip them in the sauce anyway. photo credit: Cathy Park Omelette Rice This unfortunately isn’t one of those cool runny omelets that gets sliced open in one swift motion tableside, but the egg is still soft and goes well with each bite of ketchupy rice. photo credit: Cathy Park Strawberry & Mix Berry Pancake These pancakes have zero jiggle to them, but the good news is that even flat pancakes taste good with sweet cream, berries, and chocolate drizzle. If berries aren’t your thing, Takagi also has options that are topped with caramel apple, matcha, mango, or chocolate banana." - Cathy Park

Just when I thought my neighborhood couldn’t get any better, this incredible new restaurant opened down the street—and I’m obsessed. From the moment I walked in, the vibe was perfect: warm, inviting, and effortlessly cool. The menu is a dream, with every dish bursting with flavor and so much attention to detail. It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to linger over every bite, order just one more thing, and plan your next visit before you’ve even finished your meal. Safe to say, I’ll be back a lot.

I walked into this restaurant because of the buy a drink ( I got a coffee) and pay $6.50 for pancakes deal. I was seated at the bar, the space is quite large and pretty busy on a Sunday morning. The coffee was really good and comes with a biscoff. The pancakes were fluffy but different than ones I’ve had in Tokyo. It’s hard to not compare. The ones I’ve had were more dense. These are more runny. I think you can order them well done though if you ask.

We stumbled upon Takagi by chance while strolling down 3rd St...it caught our eye because we are coffee enthusiasts. So happy we decided to stop for a mid-afternoon snack and coffee. We love coffee from Costa Rican and Guatemalan but on this day decided to try the beans from Ethiopia. It did not disappoint. The menu has flavor profiles for each of the beans, both text and graph, which makes it easy to select what interests you. We could tell the coffee was brewed with skill. We couldn't resist ordering a short stack of their famous pancakes, which were very fluffy. The fried chicken basket was average but very filling. Since the coffee experience was so good we opted to buy a pound of the Ethiopian beans which had just been roasted that day (great value) instead of getting beans from the other place down the road. If you're in the neighborhood, we highly recommend you try Takagi.

I can see the potential of this place becoming 5 starts if they can get several things right. First, they said they were going to get us a second menu. We waited 10minutes but she didn't come back so we just grabbed one from the table next for. Then we waited about 30mins before even being getting an order taken. We had to wave someone down and asked how we can order. The server said oh I can take the order. The place was half empty yet there were couple other groups going through the same thing. Then we ordered a matcha latte, Caramel latte, plain pancakes and Strawberry pancake. We got the morning sets (it says $16ish with special pancake and 6.50 ish with plain, which later turns out the menu was misleading and it's that plus the full priced drinks. Basically it's just like $2 off. They made it look like it was an opening deal) Server asked us when we wanted the pancakes. We said lattes first when they are ready. They said pancakes were going to be 10-15minutes. We said that's fine. After about 10mins the drinks came. Matcha latte was extremely sweet (way too sweet), and caramel latte which was too hot with bad foam texture. Maybe about 5mins later my fruit pancakes came. They were pleasantly good. Then, it took about 30mins for my husband's plain pancakes to come out. I was eating very slowly but I was done long time ago. This happened to the couple by us, and also they group next to us. I saw another couple walk out not being served just sitting. Anyways, it was a mistake after another. I hope they can train the servers and figure out the system. Let me know when things are fixed and we may try again.

Had a great time at Takagi Coffee! The service was very friendly and attentive, really making us feel welcome. The food was authentically Japanese and absolutely delicious. We ordered the Chicken Nanban and Fried Prawns— I recommend Chicken Nanban was crispy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The menu is not just limited to drinks, either; there’s a wide variety of food options to choose from, both savory & sweets, which is a pleasant surprise. Highly recommend it for anyone craving comforting, well-executed Japanese dishes with a cozy atmosphere.

Brand new restaurant in the neighborhood. Just walking in I knew I would have to return many times to enjoy everything this place has to offer. The interior design is well done. Cute, cozy, and intimate. While we were checking out the menu, we could overhear multiple people inside that this was the best coffee they’ve ever had in their life. The hype was valid. Coffee was amazing More than that, their food is high quality and delicious. We only tried the omelette and pork cutlet but we want to come back and try everything else on the menu. Highly recommend this place. FYI it’s cashless only with a CC fee as well

Love how the menu has info about coffee and how it’s made. The premium roast is so good! Pancakes were delicious. One thing though…would love some real maple syrup :)
