LA’s New Restaurant Openings

"Despite the name, Takagi Coffee has a lot more going on than just caffeine. This minimalist Japanese cafe serves fluffy pancakes, omurice, Japanese-style pastas, and burgers with ginger and wasabi. There’s a display of coffee beans from around the world, and by the end of the month, they’ll also be rolling out Japanese beers. We recently visited Takagi Coffee. Read our thoughts." - cathy park

Takagi Coffee - Review - Beverly Grove - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Calling Takagi a coffee shop doesn’t do it justice. Yes, this cafe chain from Osaka takes its coffee seriously—there’s a whole display of beans and origins at the front—but it’s just as committed to brunch, serving souffle pancakes, burgers, pasta, and rice plates in a space that looks like a modern kissaten. We’d send you here for the enjoyable rice dishes, especially the one with a not-too-dense hamburger steak in demi-glace, and the omurice, draped with a silky egg. As for the pancakes on every table? They aren’t quite as light or fluffy as the ones you’ve seen jiggling on influencer trips to Japan, but piled high with berries and drenched in syrup, they’re a decent sweet breakfast to pair with your single-origin Sulawesi Toraja. Food Rundown photo credit: Cathy Park Hamburger Steak This is essentially a Japanese version of steak frites (it even comes with a side of miso soup). The hamburger steak has a nice seared crust, and the meat is light and fluffy enough to sponge up all the sweet demi-glace sauce. The fries could use a bit more salt, but you won't mind if you dip them in the sauce anyway. photo credit: Cathy Park Omelette Rice This unfortunately isn’t one of those cool runny omelets that gets sliced open in one swift motion tableside, but the egg is still soft and goes well with each bite of ketchupy rice. photo credit: Cathy Park Strawberry & Mix Berry Pancake These pancakes have zero jiggle to them, but the good news is that even flat pancakes taste good with sweet cream, berries, and chocolate drizzle. If berries aren’t your thing, Takagi also has options that are topped with caramel apple, matcha, mango, or chocolate banana." - Cathy Park

I recommend to go to this place for breakfast in the mornings. They can be really busy so go there earlier but they’re really good pancakes and everything. I rate this a 100 out of 10. . . . The pancakes were delicious, they are soft, melt in your mouth, & taste amazing, they have all different types of the pancakes. You can choose if you want two pancakes or four. . I got the Strawberry & Berry pancakes 4 pieces, they are sweet, together it’s a good texture + also a really good flavor with them. . My grandpa got the Mango pancakes 2 pieces. My Pima got normal Japanese pancakes same with my great grandma, but more cooked. Then my brother got the Mango pancakes 4 pieces. . They have like this fruit filling with whipped cream in the middle of the pancakes and the pancakes are fluffy. They jiggle, also they use like fresh fruit and they’re really sweet like really good fruit and everything. . We also got drinks so my Grandpa, Pima, and great grandma. They all got coffee, my brother just wanted water. I got a caramel latte iced. The iced caramel latte was really good. It is more like coffee I noticed but their whipped cream is like thick, sweet, really good.

Stopped by for lunch on a busy Saturday. Didn’t wait terribly long even though it was packed both inside and outside, and there was a relatively short queue. Food service is surprisingly prompt after ordering. I found that the pork cutlet sandwich was exceptional, and really reminded me of Japan. The sauce was definitely the star of the show, but the pork was excellent as well. The mango smoothie also was delicious, especially on a hot summer day! Looking forward to trying those pancakes next time!

This place is a must try. It has a very large pour over coffee menu that rotates over time. I ordered the breakfast with 2 pancakes, eggs, bacon, and a small salad. The pancakes are light, fluffy, and really good. Eggs were perfectly cooked. We sat outside with our dogs and they brought a bowl of water the dogs really enjoyed.

This place was beautiful on the inside and the food was tasteful. Unfortunately, the service lacked in friendliness and professionalism. Our table kept getting skipped for some reason. It took almost 25 min to just order water, then probably another 10 to put in an order of drinks. Before we could tell the waitress we were ready to order she walked back real quick. So, one of us had to stand up and go get help to put in our order. We also had to stand up to get a refill on water, and we stood up again to go get someone to charge us. When the food started coming in, it was coming in one plate at a time. We did t want to start eating g before the others had their orders so we waited, but we waited what seemed long time for each plate to arrive. Most of the pancakes did out fast compared to the other dishes . The waitress didn't look happy with our table maybe because we kept getting up to ask for help, or maybe because she was having a bad day. Whatever the reason, her attitude was uncalled for. The food was simple yet tasteful. The chicken is delicious. I would definitely recommend any dish with the chicken they cook there.

What a gorgeous Japanese café with excellent coffee lineup and delicious Japanese food that taste close to authentic Japanese cuisine! My friends and I went in for an extensive coffee tasting session, with each of us ordering an espresso, as well as 5 cups of Hario pour-over coffee cups. The espresso is quite good, with a slightly earthy nutty flavor that is slightly sweet (7.8 out of 10). Our consensus favorite coffee was the Kenya Peaberry Ngemwa that has a very nice clean woodsy, slightly flavor (8.5). The worst was the Costa Rica Hacienda La Pradera (6.5) since it has a bit of a "flavored coffee taste" that was just OK. The middle three are split for each of us, with me placing the Ethiopia Queen City Harrar as second (8.0), Organic Honduras COMSA as third (7.6), and the Premium House Blend as fourth (7.0). We all ended up buying a 1lb bag of the Kenyan coffee for a surprisingly affordable price (for a premium coffee) for $17. That's $17 for 1 lb bag that is roasted then and there for you! As for the food, two of us was just in Japan last year and we both agreed this is pretty close to authentic as it get for Japanese comfort food that is NOT ramen or sushi. The Omurice (omelette rice) is quite fluffy and the rich demi-glace sauce is delicious. The Hamburg steak is also very good and filling. The millefeuille pancake is not as dense as regular pancakes, and is pretty good but not as much of a standout. Overall, this was a pleasant experience for both Japanese food lovers and coffee lovers. Will be back again!

This Japanese restaurant is a fantastic spot for a chill weekend brunch. Be sure to arrive 15-20 minutes before opening because it fills up incredibly fast! Their pancakes are an absolute standout – truly the best I've had in the US and reminiscent of the delicious, fluffy ones you often find in Asia.

LOVED the ambiance, friendly and attentive service, Japanese soufflé pancakes, and iced latte! Reasonable price points were a plus. I also appreciated that you could choose between a 2 and 4 stack for the pancakes. I look forward to coming back!

Google
So I got to try the fluffy soufflé pancakes, omelette rice and coffee that this place is famous for in Japan. Everything was spot on and tasty. Only beef I had was that it took around 45 minutes for me to get my pancakes and my premium blend drip coffee was gone already and my wife finished her breakfast way before me. We got there around 910 am on a Sunday morning. Place was packed by 9:30 and there was a wait when we left. Found easy street parking that early as it was free till 11am. I imagine if you come any later it would be harder to find parking as it near the Grove. Also the prices were quite high $22 for the pancakes and not as much fruit as the pictures depict. Limited veggie selection as well.

Yelp
I've heard that their service was bad from friends but I didn't think it's this bad. Female servers were nice and professional but they disappeared after they served us drinks. 2 male servers started serving customers. They brought my friend's meal with soup to our table first but didn't bring my meal for 10 minutes so my friend's meal was getting cold. Finally we started eating the meal but server brought our desert (pancakes) in the middle of our meal! By the time we ate the desert, it was not fresh. The pancakes got dried and wasn't that good. Their tables were small so our table was full of our empty dirty dishes while we were eating pancakes but those servers didn't pick them up even they saw them with empty hands. They never picked them up. They were very weird. I didn't enjoy my lunch here. No wonder this restaurant isn't busy anymore.

Yelp
I come here with someone special and we ordered the mixed berries pancake and the omurice egg. The pancake was enjoyable, though the omurice wasn't quite what we expected -- the rice lacked flavor. For drinks, we had the matcha green tea latte and iced latte. The matcha was okay, but not particularly memorable, while the iced coffee was decent. Overall, the food was decent, but what stood out most was the cozy atmosphere and the excellent service. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the space was very welcoming

Yelp
I was in the area for something else and decided to stop by when I heard they had just launched their dinner menu. Since they're known more for their coffee, I honestly didn't expect much from the food -- but wow, I was seriously impressed. The sirloin steak was perfectly cooked medium rare -- super juicy and tender. Paired with the roasted garlic on the side? Absolutely amazing. Such great value for the quality, too. The cocktails were also on point -- loved the sake and plum-based flavors, and they've got some fun signature drinks you can only get here. And of course... the coffee is already famous for a reason! Definitely recommend checking out the dinner menu -- totally worth it.

Yelp
Clean, modern Japanese coffee shop. It's more of a sit down cafe than a grab and go coffee spot. Come for the pancakes, skip the food. The berry pancake is as delicious as it looks. So light and fluffy, with a lot more berries than I expected based on the pictures. They do warn that the pancakes take a while to make, so I'd order these as soon as you sit down. The hamburger steak was just ok. Portion size is good for a light lunch. The Brazil coffee was good, but not too memorable. Stopped by on a weekday afternoon and there was no wait. The servers were all extremely polite and attentive.

Yelp
I came to Takagi with a friend on a Saturday for lunch after pilates. It was super busy but the wait was only about 10 minutes. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, and a cute bar area with different coffees and teas on display. I will emphasize that the tables are generally pretty small and it was difficult to fit everything we ordered without plates hanging off the side of the table. We'd been seeing our friends post pictures of food from Takagi, so we were excited to try and ordered some of the more popular items to share. We started with the Matcha cocktail and White Plum cocktail. The matcha was very sweet and syrupy so I would avoid it if you don't like sweet drinks like my friend and me. The plum cocktail was less sweet but it sounded more refreshing than it tasted, so I'm not sure I would order any cocktails from Takagi in the future. For food, we ordered the Strawberry & Mix Berry pancakes, Omelette Rice, and the Pork Cutlet sandwich. The Strawberry & Mix Berry pancakes were also super sweet like the cocktails. I know it's a sweet dish, but asian sweets are usually not as heavy handed. I was also under the impression that they would be the fluffy, jiggly kind of Japanese pancakes, but the texture was more like a custard and very eggy and dense, rather than the more airy soufflé pancakes I've had at other places that serve similar dishes. 6/10. The Omelette Rice was pretty standard, though I wish the egg was the fluffier. The demi glace was pretty good, but the rice felt like it could have used some more seasoning and was pretty bland. It wasn't a bad dish - just underwhelming. I felt like I could have made the equivalent very easily at home at a way lower price point. 6/10. The Pork Cutlet sandwich was our favorite of all the dishes. There was a kind of sweet mustard(?) sauce that paired well with the pork. The pork itself was cooked nicely and was juicy under the layer of fried panko. The side of fries were soft on the inside and crispy outside - very lovely. However, we both felt like the sandwich could have used a bit more cabbage, but that's more of a personal preference. The ratio just seemed off. It was good, but I've also had good or better from the readymade section at the Japanese market. 7.5/10. The service was a bit all over the place. It was a busy time - brunch on a weekend. But we just had a few questions about the menu for our server and while she gave helpful recommendations, she seemed quite flustered and we felt really rushed to order. After we ordered and started getting our food, nobody really came by again to check on our table. We didn't get water until we were more than halfway through our meal. It seemed like the staff were all very busy and it was hard to flag someone down. When we paid with the handheld POS system, the staff member walked off immediately without giving us the chance to get the receipt. We had to flag someone down again to get the receipt and some boxes to take our leftovers. Again, I think it was a busy time, but I would avoid the crowd if I come back. Though some of the food did not meet my expectations, it was overall still pretty good. The vibe of the establishment is cute and I would give it a try if you haven't been cause you might have a different experience. Maybe just avoid high traffic times. I would come back to try the menu items I didn't get to try this time, just in case this visit was a fluke.

Yelp
I came here on a Sunday morning for brunch with a few friends, and there was no wait at all! I tried the Japanese hamburger which was pretty good! Loved the daikon sauce that it came with. My friend didn't really like her soufflé pancakes, which were the plain ones that came as part of a breakfast set. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the area! Parking can be difficult at peak brunch times, but sometimes you can get lucky finding a street parking spot in the morning.

Yelp
Honestly, I think the internet hyped the pancakes up a bit too much. While they were good, they didn't wow me like people's reactions in the videos. I think the unique thing here is their coffee selection. I love that they include the profile of every bean so you can make an informed decision. SERVICE: Some other reviews comment on bad service, but my service was very standard. I didn't have to wait for anything and it was easy flagging down a waiter. On a Sunday at 10 AM, we were able to get seated right away surprisingly.

Yelp
I like that this place had nice pancakes. This is a good quantity for 2 though you can finish the pancake yourself too if you want. They provide wifi. All in all, this is a nice place.

Yelp
Had high hopes for Takagi Coffee, but it didn't fully live up to the hype. The omelette rice looked beautiful but was a little underwhelming flavor-wise, and the soufflé pancakes, while super fluffy, didn't quite deliver on taste. Katsu Sando hot the spot though!! The café itself is cute and cozy, and the service was friendly -- just wish the food matched the vibe. Not bad, but probably wouldn't go out of my way for it again.
google avatar

Keila K.

Yelp
Staff was friendly! The outdoor seating is dog-friendly but seems to be common for dogs to be present at lunch-time. The patio is a single row of 6-8 tables for 2 in front of the cafe. The pancakes were delicious and filling and the matcha latte is so cute with the biscoff cookie. Instagram-worthy and delicious. Definitely the best soufflé pancakes i've had in LA. This cafe feels modern and authentic. We will definitely come back to try their other menu items.

Yelp
Wow I went with my siblings to try Takagi especially because we just got back from Osaka to visit family and wanted a taste of Japan in LA. And we were not disappointed at all! We ordered the berries pancake, omelette rice, and carbonara and they were all bangers!!! The flavors reminded me so much of home and I love that they have wet wipes like in Japan Absolutely coming back!!!

Yelp
Great place to try out!! Some friends and I dined here early on a Saturday morning. There were only about 3 others patrons inside. The decor is very simple but fitting and stylish. The wait staff were very pleasant and had great recommendations for first timers. We tried the caramel apple pancake, mango pancake, matcha azuki pancake, omelette rice, and the fried chicken. All dishes were absolutely delicious. The pancakes were soft and fluffy and the chicken was so tender and flavorful. We also tried various coffees which complimented our meal quite nicely. Things to note: We parked in metered street parking. Not sure if there is a parking lot. There is only one single use restroom available for patrons (nice toilet seat with warmer and bidet). Will absolutely return for more pancakes!
google avatar

Hannah S.

Yelp
Biggest complaint is that the pancakes took FOREVER to come out. We got the yogurt and avocado toast right away for the others in my party, but my pancakes came 30 MINUTES AFTER!! It was horrible timing. Food was great tho! Love Japanese pancakes and these were no exception. The coffee and matcha here were my favorite!!! I'd come back just for the drinks. Great space and lots of seating, but they need to improve their service, we asked for water and never got any :(
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
It was a five star until we had to wait 45 min for our pancakes. We came about 5-10 min after they opened on a Sunday and most of the tables were already taken. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We ended up sitting at the bar. We ordered their premium coffee and matcha latte. Both were very good with the coffee tasting very earthy but strangely light. We ordered their omelette rice and strawberry pancakes. The omelette rice came out with a very nice slightly tangy gravy. The pancakes however came out about 45 min later. Unfortunately our drinks got cold waiting for the pancakes. The pancakes were good but not as good as we hoped. Be prepared for it to have a slight eggy taste as the fluffiness comes from meringue made by using multiple egg whites. Overall the food was good and would come again. Recommend ordering another dish besides the pancakes to satisfy your hunger while waiting for the pancakes.

Yelp
My friend and I had brunch at Takagi Coffee on Saturday, and we were excited for to check-out this restaurant! We found metered street parking on the same block and arrived to the restaurant at around 11am. Our estimated waitlist time was up to an hour, but our table was ready in about 40 minutes. We thought the check-in queue was disorganized; there wasn't a clear spot to check-in with a server, so we had to flag-down a server inside the restaurant among the foot traffic. It'd be better if there was kiosk/check-in stand outside of the restaurant as there were multiple parties waiting to be seated inside and outside at this time. Aside from the chaotic queue, we enjoyed our meal to Takagi Coffee and would come again at a different date/time. During this visit, the staff were kind & patient, and the decor was minimal & sleek. There are indoor and outdoor seating areas, but I wouldn't recommend bringing parties larger than 4 people because it gets cramped. Also, there's a gender-neutral restroom. We ordered the 4-piece Original Millefeuille Pancakes and the Omelette Rice to share. The pancakes were fluffy and not too sweet as is, so a little bit of the table-side syrup went a long way. The Omelette Rice was flavorful and tomato-forward, but I wished the omelette was fluffier and to get more egg to balance the rice. For drinks, my friend chose an iced Takagi Original Blend and I got a hot Takagi Light Blend. We liked our drinks and thought they had the right amount of acidity and bitterness, and they paired well with the side of Lotus Biscoff cookies.

Yelp
I'm hooked! The first taste of the Takagi original coffee and I'm hooked. The coffee is so smooth and flavorful. The pancakes are fluffy, perfectly sweet, and such a guilty treat. The chicken katsu was enjoyable, crispy, tender, and perfect pairing with a bite of rice. This spot is comfortable and has a beautiful decor. Service is friendly, attentive, and very pleasant staff.

Yelp
I've been eyeing this spot ever since they opened because you rarely can find a spot in LA that serves these Japanese souffle pancakes. My friend and I visited on a Sunday morning for brunch and we got their strawberry & mix berry pancake, omelette rice, and matcha latte The pancakes were pretty fluffy and yummy. compared to japan? it really isn't the same but it was pretty good and the fruits were really fresh! the omelette rice is a classic and it was pretty good. the matcha latte was so vibrant green! i enjoyed it a lot, it is a bit sweet but honestly it was good and it's huge too. The service was mediocre--didn't really understand what the waitress was saying a lot of the times and my friend asked for unsweetened matcha but didn't get it. It was around a 1.5 hour wait for Sunday morning brunch. Parking: as expected, parking in this area is horrific haha

Yelp
This cute coffee shop was near our hotel and has a high rating, needless to say we gotta have some breakfast here! We arrived at 9am and there already a line, but it was not overwhelming. We were seated immediately so arriving early was a good call. The staff greeted us and took our order right away. We sat at the bar so it was fun to watch the baristas in action and to watch the bean roaster which was right behind us. Everyone was very friendly and attentive even though they were busy. I tried the original blend coffee because the server recommended it, and it was smooth and low on acid. I drank the entire cup without milk and enjoyed it. My husband got the house latte and liked it as well. He said the foam was light and fluffy, reminds him a wet cappuccino. The omurice was very good as the rice had a nice chew and the sauce was not too salty or sweet. It made for a perfect breakfast. We waited a while for the matcha red bean pancakes, and they did not disappoint as they were fluffy and came with many toppings such as red bean, butter, whip cream, dango rice cakes, black honey and matcha powder. Though the pancakes came without the matcha as advertised, we still enjoyed it. While we were there, we noticed we could purchase freshly roasted coffee beans there for a reasonable price. So, we got two bags of original and premium and watch them roasted, packed and vacuum sealed them for us. Both bags smelled amazing. One more thing to mention, is that they have a bidet-seat on the toilet in their restroom. I know it's such a funny thing to mention but all bidet-seat owners will be pleasantly surprised to find one there. Overall, we enjoyed our breakfast as it was a lively experience. We would highly recommend Takagi to everyone!

Yelp
Finally made it here! We had this type pancake in Tokyo two years ago and so we were anxious to try them here and happily they did not disappoint! We had a mango stack, Matcha stack, and shared a pork cutlet sandwich... all were very good. As noted there was a long wait, service had its bumps, but idid not ruin the experience in any way. Also the space is lovely. Note that when ordering pancakes along with other food they may ask if you'd like them to put in the order to be prepared at the same time, as I learned some people eat them as dessert, which they definitely qualify as;)

Yelp
The pancakes from Takagi are some of the best Japanese soufflé pancakes I've eaten. From its soft and fluffy texture to the sweet blends of the pancake with ice cream and berries, this breakfast option can comfortably feed two people. I also ordered the carbonara pasta, which provided a creamy savory dish with a perfect blend of cheese and protein.

Yelp
This review is solely for their matcha: 5 stars. Easily one of the better tasting matcha lattes in the city. We're almond milk drinkers and noticed they used the Kirkland brand instead of the standard Califa, which initially made me assume it might taste a bit... flat. I was sorely mistaken. This was a great matcha. We'll visit again if we're in the area. Tips: Parking - street parking Hours - open at 9am and then later at 6pm Ambiance - smaller space but cozy and very well decorated Staff - friendly, welcoming, and professional

Yelp
Came in on a Sunday afternoon for a snack and some tea. We were seated quickly and the staff were attentive and very welcoming. The interior is a very nice and modern Japanese style, it's a relaxed and casual ambiance. My friends and I shared the matcha azuki pancake and it was so good. The fluffiness was out of control haha. It came with cream, red bean/azuki, and mochi. Flavor was light and meted in your mouth. Hoping to return soon to try the other food! We saw other people's orders and it looked so great. We were lucky and there were meters open across the street in the late afternoon, but I can imagine parking being challenging during peak hours!

Yelp
Takagi Coffee is a great spot for the vibes - everything is "cute" - the interior, food, and drinks all look very social-media ready and there's even a nice outdoor eating area to eat with your pups. The average wait on a table during the weekend is going to be at least thirty minutes and street parking can be difficult, so be prepared for that. Here's what we ordered: - Hot Oat Milk Matcha Latte (4.5/5): Comes with a cookie that's pretty much a biscotti cookie. The flavor of the matcha was intense and between the whisked matcha foam and the warmth, it was reminiscent of the matcha I had while in Japan; but the harsher bitter notes were mellowed out by the oat milk. There were some large clumps of matcha at the bottom of my cup though, so it could've been whisked better. - Cold Matcha Latte (4.5/5): More refreshing due to being iced, but you lose out on the matcha foam (and the latte art) and your drink gets more watery as the ice melts. Still a solid drink and a matter of preference. - Omelette Rice (4/5): The flavors are done well; the egg is fluffy and the demi glaze sauce was a great pairing with the ketchup rice. But at $21 - with no additional proteins besides the egg - I couldn't help but feel a bit underwhelmed by the price-value. The omurice isn't actually very large and this felt very "tourist priced" even by American standards. It made for a nice picture, though. Tonteki (2.5/5): The overall flavor of the sauce was quite good, but that's about all I can say was definitively good about this order. The texture was unfortunately quite dry for pork chop, and the portions were really small. A very unfortunate combination of "Japanese portions with American pricing". The fries tasted like something bought at Costco and made in an air fryer - that is to say, not particularly crispy and very starchy inside. Berry Souffle Pancake (4/5): Strangely, this was a slightly polarizing order at my table (some people did not appreciate the batter/texture), but I enjoyed it a lot - they were pretty standard for Japanese style souffle pancakes. The pancakes were soft, very eggy and soaked up the sauce and whipped cream quite well. My only note is that I wish there was more of the sauce to go with the pancakes as it didn't come with syrup to pour on the side. However, considering a 4 stack pancake here comes at 22 dollars, I would consider trying Moto Tea House which has just as good souffle pancakes at a a fraction of the price. For service, it was kind of all over the place. They got our drink order wrong, never stopped to check on our table (our water never got refilled and we only had 2 water glasses for the table), and my omurice came out about 10 minutes before the rest of the food came out - in fact, the drinks hadn't even finished being served. They also never provided water for our dog (or any other of the dogs that we were eating outside that day), which is never particularly expected, but would have been nice. Despite the food - for the most part - being above average, the reason for the 3 star rating really boils down to the service and the kind of insane portion sizes given the pricing. Between the parking, long lines, and the portion sizes, I don't think anyone in our group feels very strongly about coming back. The best part about this place is probably their teas and lattes, but I'd probably order my drink to-go if I were to come back.

Yelp
I have been eying this place for a while now. Finally got to try it last Sat. Parking wasn't so bad when I arrived around 8ish. There were a few empty meter parking spots. I happened to parked at a broken meter. The sign in was a bit confusing. There were no signs or anything. I happened to see someone put their name down on the sign in sheet at the counter. So I sped up to put my name. As the waitress passed by me, I asked her about the wait time. She kindly checked and said about an hr or so. That was scary lol I was planning to leave, but good thing I didn't. I sat in my car for about 30 minutes and decided to go check on the list. I noticed that I m actually 3rd to be called. I decided to use the RR. I was pretty quick to be out at the waiting area. I heard names and names being called. I asked the waitress and she said she already called me lol wth? So we got seated. The server that took our order was nice and patience. I had questions about the premium coffees and the set. She was able to provide the info and gave me recommendations. That was nice. The ginger pork was ok. It tasted good, but it felt like something that I can make at home lol. My fav was definitely the pancakes. I decided to go with the plain to try it first. I def will come back to try the other ones. It was fluffy, but not so eggy. The second pancake at the bottom was not so pretty. They need to work on it lol the eggs and bacons were alright. They need to add some dressing on the salad. It was so plain and dry. They should offer sausage or turkey patty since I m not a big fan of bacons lol The lattes were yummy. It was not as creamy as I hope for. More like the healthy version lattes lol I took advantage of the 10% discount hehhe Will return =)

Yelp
Came here for a late morning brunch. Put our names down for 5 for a 2 hour wait! We ended up going down the street to mood for brunch and by the time we were done, our table was ready. We went for dessert and coffee. All in all great pancakes and coffees. Didnt ha e a chance to try the savory food but it looked simple but worth a try. Will have to come back again at a reasonable time, likely as soon as they open. If we didnt have brunch nearby, I dont think it is worth a 2 hour wait.

Yelp
We all ended up buying a 1lb bag of the Kenyan coffee for a surprisingly affordable price (for a premium coffee) for $17 That's $17 for 1 lb bag that is roasted then and there for you!

Yelp
Much to like here and for a new location, they are doing a lot right. Still, there are gaps in service (the kitchen, mostly) that undercut the overall lovely experience here. My hunch is that they are overwhelmed with their instant popularity while continuing to work out the kinks. In a month or so, I feel this place will be a solid 5 stars. Takagi has been around since 1958, from Japan. The Breakfast specials are worth checking out. Heck, the entire menu looks worth checking out. It was fun to see a variety of dishes at the various tables. Having arrived toward the end of mid-morning, we ended up seeing some of the Lunch crowd, too. Regardless, I will often choose breakfast food at any available hour, if given the choice. My breakfast special included 4 (instead of the optional 2) pancakes as the backbone of my breakfast. The eggs and bacon made for a great combo. The eggs were scrambled, delicately prepared. Not soft, per se, but almost velvety in how smooth they were. The bacon was just enough - cooked medium - the way I like it (without even asking). Now. The pancakes. The Souffle pancakes. They were good, fluffy enough, but seemed to be almost a hasty mistake. Instead of the pert and shapely disks that are Takagi's speciality, mine were deflated and a little frumpy looking. Bottom line: they tasted really good, and I had no problems. The special even had a small salad, which was fresh and quietly wonderful - a great addition. (I boxed 2 pancakes. Had plenty.) My dining companion had the opposite experience. First, their plate came out at least 20 minutes after I finished eating. Apologies abounded, and they comped appropriately on the bill, however, this was pretty crazy. Yes, the place is, and got more, busy. But it made no sense why one plate would come out without the other. Especially since the other plate was merely 2 pancakes. The mystery seemed to reveal itself when the other plate did arrive - as these new pancakes looked fantastic and the way they look on the menu. (Completely different from mine). Maybe they ran out of batter? Happily, these tasted great - and had the bonus of being super fluffy. For the heck of it, we ordered french fries, too, which came out before our meals. Loved them, too. Not greasy, but still delicious with the ketchup. I also loved the coffee. Rich and dark and not bitter. The latte at our table was gorgeous and wonderful, too. Come early. Don't be in a hurry. Cut Takagi a bit of slack, and you will have a mostly fantastic meal.

Yelp
Came in for a breakfast. Came with my partner. To start, the menu is very informative about coffee (especially if you LOVE coffee). Took our time. We did have to flag down the waitress to respond. While there was probably a language barrier - the waitress was abrasive when speaking to us. When we would ask questions about the difference between the coffees on the menu (special they were offering). She didn't explain anything, and she would flip to the first page and say "this is your order." When we tried to clarify - she just repeated her action. No explaination , just flipping the menu and saying we were getting that. Then she walk away. We didn't care for her doing that and it was disappointing. We did order their breakfast special: Eggs/coffee/pancake/salad. Best parts were THE COFFEE (great flavor and NOT acidic) and THE PANCAKE. While it was plain - we like the texture and flavor and it NOT being overly sweet. I LOVE eggs.. but theirs was not my favorite. It was just yellow fluffy thing... didn't even taste real. Also wished I just got plain side of eggs if anything (if possible). We also got the Katsu sandwhich. It looks nice, but I would say cut the sandwhich in half so it doesn't fall apart easily. Flavor was good, but pancakes were better (and I'm not a pancake girl). The ambience is very beautiful. Wish we got to try more coffees... just didn't get a chance because our server seemed busy and not super helpful (esp when she took our first order). Would def be back for the pancakes to try their flavors! And coffee (bc we got 3 total between 2 of us in our sitting). it is that good! Hopefully better service (to try again). I (and my partner) do want to try again!

Yelp
We got there around 8:30 and waited in the car until we saw people lining up. Once the crowd started forming, we got out and ended up being the first group inside when the doors opened at nine. Good thing we did, because the line got really long, and the wait was over an hour after that. We ordered a few dishes, and everything was super tasty. The matcha was really good--smooth and flavorful. The pancakes were a highlight--light, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweetness. The place had a Japanese vibe, with a bright and simple layout that felt comfortable and practical. Portions were generous, the food was great, prices were fair, and the staff was really polite and professional. No wonder it's the most popular brunch spot around lately!

Yelp
Unfortunately, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. When it was our turn to be seated, the staff simply pointed at a table without any greeting or guidance. Once seated, we were completely ignored no water, no check-in for over 30 minutes. What made it worse was watching other tables, who arrived after us, get their orders taken and served. We tried multiple times to signal that we were ready, but the server just stared without responding. No explanation, no service at all. Very confusing. After waiting that long and being overlooked repeatedly, we had no choice but to leave. Please greet your guests, offer water, and check in with them within a few minutes of being seated. A little communication goes a long way.

Yelp
This review is only for the hot latte but after such a nice experience and looking over the menu, I can't wait to return to try their pancakes and other delicious Japanese cuisine! We drove by on a Monday afternoon and we made it just in time before they closed (6pm). We were worried we couldn't sit down but they were nice to let us order coffee and have a seat. The ambiance is nice and cozy. Minimal and simple deco. I couldn't believe there was a Toto toilet in the restroom. I miss Japan for this! I can't wait to try their food! I looked over their menu and everything looks delicious.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Delicious coffee and smoothies. Pancakes were light and fluffy. Service was prompt and great to sit on outside patio facing north and listen to music.

Yelp
Food is not bad. Just like other yelpers have said, I agree with them. It's actually good, especially the Millefeuille pancakes which were AMAZING! The whip cream omg. So good. The extra red bean azuka was a nice touch!!! And the drinks were also the best! The takagi original blend iced coffee was so smooth. I'm not even a coffee person but it was so nice. Same with the Takagi original tea (black tea with ice). Super refreshing, bright! Japanese style omelette is fine, but I've had better. Sauce is like A1 steak sauce and ketchup rice is ok. I didn't like my husband's Tonteki pork chop. But I liked that he got rice and miso tofu soup in addition to fries. It really is the service that's bad and what gives this review 3 stars. Quite the disappointment. They are all over the place. They take your order, and don't come back to check if you need more water or other things. Then they give the food as it comes out........But if my husband is finished with his meal, and I'm just getting mine? That's messed up. On top of which, when the food comes out, the staff ask amongst nearby tables, who ordered the dish!!! /headdesk. Cuz they can't keep track of which table ordered what.....sighhhh. My omelette almost was given to the table beside us. Smh. I'd like to come back, cuz drinks and pancakes are worth it. But geez. Service needs to improve! Parking is cruddy here. Good luck finding metered street parking. We just got lucky.

Yelp
Was hearing the hype about this place and finally checked it out for brunch. We were seated pretty quickly, and the interior is SO spacious, servers are very friendly. I ordered the pork cutlet sandwich which had a hefty portion of crispy cutlet between fluffy bread, and comes with plenty of fries. My dining partner ordered the chicken nanban, and really liked the combination of fried chicken with tartar sauce. Of course we also ordered a coffee and their famous pancakes, which did not disappoint. Overall, a great and relaxing spot to brunch, and I would definitely want to come back.

Yelp
I saw a post about a new Japanese coffee house and stopped by on a Friday evening. First things first; the parking in the area is a little complicated. Most of the businesses on this street have a valet in front of the store but if you drive around a little, you should be able to find a parking spot on the street. The space is very minimalist, clean, and dare I say calming? It's just a nice, quiet spot so enjoy coffee alone or share a meal or snack with someone. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted and we were handed a menu and welcomed to sit at a table of our choice. We wanted coffee to go so we just sat by the door and perused the menu. There's a variety of coffee/coffee beans and way more food than you would expect at a coffee shop. You can eat a full meal here or have a snack. The front of the bar area has various types of coffee beans on display. You can tell they take their coffee seriously here. That said, they don't have a bunch of trendy drinks. They have cold brew and lattes but not anything you'd expect at a more trendy coffee shop. I guess you can say it's for serious coffee drinkers. I don't consider myself a serious coffee drinker, I'm a large child and like my coffee with cloud foam, syrups, etc. but I can appreciate good coffee especially if you pair it with a sweet treat. Anyway, I got a caramel latte with oat milk and my bf got a cold brew. The roast was lighter than I prefer but it was not overly sweetened and a good drink to have after dinner. I was too full from dinner to have Japanese-style pancakes but I'm going back for that next time!

Yelp
Delicious pancakes that melt in your mouth. The omelette was also perfectly cooked. Great coffees and teas.

Yelp
Went on a Thursday at around noon and was seated quickly. Not very busy. Nice ambiance, but some people were kinda loud in a corner. Not sure if that's typical but it's not a quiet restaurant. Servers were nice, but the food took a while to be served. The last dish got to us around 20 minutes after the first dish. If you're a wait until everyone gets their food type of group, it's painful. If you're down to eat while someone's waiting, you can finish your meal before the last person in your group is served. Place wasn't too busy either so I'm not sure what the wait was about. That was my only qualm. Food was a solid 7. I did a study abroad in Japan and the food was really similar in taste, def authentic. As an American though, I prefer a bit more flavor. Someone at our table was looking for salt. Portions are good though, we shared the pancakes. The pancakes themselves are light and fluffy and honestly a little eggy, which might surprise people, but that's how it's supposed to be. Great experience overall, just hoping the food's served faster or together next time.

Yelp
If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Takagi Coffee is a true hidden gem and my absolute favorite spot for pancakes honestly, the best I've ever had in the world, hands down. The vibe? Like stepping straight into Japan. The decor, the ambiance, everything feels authentic and peaceful. Big shout out to Kenji, the manager, who made our visit unforgettable. His recommendations were spot on, from the insanely fluffy pancakes to the beautifully crafted coffee with latte art that felt too pretty to drink. Every bite and sip was perfection. Can't wait to come back. Takagi Coffee is a must-visit if you're in LA!

Yelp
Came here for a quick brunch midweek. What an amazing experience! Absolutely adorable little place on a busy street but so worth it once you find a parking spot. Decor was so clean and well done. Outdoor seating also available on beautiful days but so quiet indoors. The coffee (I got the mocha latte) was delicious. I wish I tried the Takagi Coffee special but my friend had it said it was amazing coffee. Presentation was perfect (see pic) The food. Wow. Got the berry pancake stack of 4 which was so fluffy and my new favorite way to have my pancakes. The chicken cutlet was perfect. The sauce was unexpectedly delicious since I'm used to curry but their glaze was so good. You just have to try it out to see for yourself. Our server was so polite and very nice. Answered all our newbie questions with a smile and very attentive on clearing our small table whenever we finished a dish. I'm definitely returning with more friends and family!

Yelp
If you want to try a cafe that will give you a real Japanese cafe experience in West Hollywood area, I recommend this place. The food is good and the coffee is great. When I went right after it opened, it was a bit chaotic, but my recent visit was so much better with attentive service. My favorite was their fried chicken and super fluffy pancake. Their katsu sando and Neapolitan spaghetti were pretty good too. Very Japanese! They don't have that many tables, so it is better to avoid brunch rush during the weekend. Street parking available and the atmosphere is for any crowd including families with kids.

Yelp
I want to go back already! The food was delicious, and the decor was sleek and modern, yet comfortable. I would recommend going early, though, because of street parking.

Yelp
Reason why I dont post pictures?... pictures VS the real thing can mislead anyone... So I rather give my honest opinion, rather than post pics... So...seen this place on IG... read about how good the coffee is and decided to try... AnnnnD?... 3.5 stars.... Coffee is great... no refills, so if you want another cup, you must pay... and it is worth it!!... If i understood the menu, you can order coffee from a variety of options and regions. Each cup avg 6 to 8 dollars ... I went with the house coffee and I was satisfied with my choice... no issue there!!... Food, is not what I expected, the food looks better than how it taste... the pork sandwhich was decent, avg in taste... fries were a lil soggy and not good... plate looks better than how it taste... Got the matcha pancakes, hint of match, not very sweet... wasn't a big fan really... Ambiance is chill.... Staff was nice and friendly... Parking can be tricky... Street parking and good luck!!... 1 bathroom for all...that's a big no no when you have to go and you in a line... return and food/coffee are getting cold... May go back, but not anytime soon.... When you go, Enjoy!!....

Yelp
Today we went to try this cute little restaurant. The aroma of the coffee was really good the minute I walked in. I ordered Beef Yakiniku Bento Box and limited time grape and blueberry soufflé pancake. Both of them were delicious. The flavorful whipped cream on the pancake was really fluffy and melts in your mouth.

Yelp
Solid Japanese cafe/ restaurant! The omelette rice was delicious and the pancakes were so soft and fluffy. Came on a weekday at 1pm and there was no wait time. My only complaint is that the matcha latte was a tad bit too sweet to my liking but I was notified it would come sweetened. Parked on the metered street. Would definitely come again for their food and to try their coffee next time.

Yelp
This restaurant is such a gem! The staff is very welcoming and so kind. The iced matcha is truly the best I've ever had. Every aspect of every dish is delicious and authentic. We had iced almond milk matcha lattes, the chicken cutlet plate and the fluffy pancakes. Brings me right back to Japan! Love this place and highly recommend checking it out.

Yelp
Hmmm food definitely fell short from expectations. The pancake was good though I have to admit. The pork cutlet was dry. And the biggest disappointment was the omelette rice. The omelette was very thin and the sauce was just okay. $20 for rice and thin omelette? The price is definitely ridiculous! The place was nice though. And surprisingly the service was quick and attentive. The wait was almost an hour, I think so many people came here because of social media just like we did. But we don't come back for sure. Sorry

Yelp
After coming from Japan, we decided to try this coffee place for the pancakes. Sign in as soon as you arrive as there usually is a wait. The place is very cute and cozy inside. People are nice and friendly. We sat at the bar tables. The barista was very nice. She gave my husband a free coffee because someone had cancelled their order. They have a large array of different coffees and teas from different places, plus their own house blend of coffee. Service was a little slow (maybe they thought we already ordered because they seen a coffee at the table). Coffee was very good. Barista told waitress we were ready to order, and we had 2 of them come to us :) Food came out rather quickly and we tried the pork cutlet first. It was juicy and crunchy, but not as good as the ones in Japan. Their matcha azuki bean pancakes were really good, soft and fluffy. Came with a small dollop of ice cream, whip cream, azuki beans and mochi balls. Will come back again and bring the kids.
