Service
Very friendly, very nice, and very professional.
Food
Ordered the ¥9,800 set: half Kanto-style (steamed) and half Kansai-style (grilled). The food is very good overall. The unagi is fluffy and pairs well with the rice. The sauce was a tad too salty for my taste, but still manageable when eaten with the rice.
The Unagi Show
They bring out a pail with a live unagi for customers to see, then take it back inside to slice and prepare it for the next batch. It’s definitely very fresh, but I wouldn’t consider this true “live unagi” dining. The eel that was served to us was already halfway through cooking on the grill when the live unagi was brought out for photos. Still, it’s a thoughtful gesture, and I believe the unagi is killed on the same day.
Reservation
Reservation is a must. Walk-ins don’t seem possible, as the eels are slaughtered and prepped in advance, so booking appears to be mandatory.
Overall
I would still recommend trying this place in Ginza, as long as you manage your expectations. It’s not a case where the unagi you see is cut exclusively for you, but the quality is fresh and the experience is enjoyable.
