"This restaurant’s modern appearance provides a striking contrast with its surrounding buildings. Although the menu is described as Nikkei, the Japanese influence is more noticeable here than the Peruvian. Meals start with ceviche and continue with sushi, the latter ranging from classic Japanese to the restaurant’s more creative “American” style. A well-stocked bar and attractive cocktails add to the appeal, while the restaurant’s location makes it convenient for the National Theatre (HNK)." - Michelin Inspector

"Situated just a stone’s throw from the National Theatre and the University, this restaurant with its gold and black interior decor serves an array of copious dishes prepared in various ways (wok, teriyaki, tempura, sushi and sashimi) and accompanied by a choice of cocktails." - Le Guide MICHELIN

As someone who spend long time in Asia and is a fan fatty tuna I was not very amazed that after serving tuna which was clearly too long on the air I haven’t got an apology. Instead the waiter and then his manager where referring that I have no clue how fatty tuna should look like. Okay - dear reader please be the judge yourself by looking at the picture. Most fishes were okay, rather poor on quality but with some nice decoration ideas. the very positive reviews combined with candied pictures I can only explain with high marketing spend which probably would have more impact if spent on quality of food or training or personal.

Our favorite Japanese restaurant in Croatia. Their tempura and ever changing menu are amazing and delicious. Feel of luxury, minimalism and all placed in the heart of Zagreb historical.

The food is superb but the prices are high and the service professionalism does not match the price.

Good maki & nigiri, for me they needed a bit more "wasabi" & some soy sauce - but rice is really excellent. Chef doesn't have view on the guests so maki rolls were slightly too big for my small mouth, but not excessive. They serve fine sharp Japanese beer, but for me star of the show were mochi balls, especially the purple one with floral taste. Next time I will ask the chef to come take a look on me & adjust the size of maki for me. Atmosphere is nice and music is tasteful - for guests who like to be seen there is room with big windows on the street, but if you prefer privacy there's another more discrete dining room inside. Ladie's room is well designed and spacious, which I really appreciate. I don't know about prices, sorry.. I think dessert menu stated mochi was 8 euro? Something like that. White wine is ok, sake aromatic. There was certain dish they had when I was young , before moving abroad, and now that I'm back I was sorry to see they don't serve it anymore (but I am regularly making it as a meal for my family) Yes, place has tradition of 20 or more years and still didn't loose it's apoeal :)

Excellent food. The staff is super courteous and very helpful. The food quality was really good and fresh. The taste was just amazing. The food in Zagreb is much better than the other cities as there is a lot of variety. The restaurant is very clean and not that expensive. It looks fancy but I believe it is value for money for the service and food it offers. I loved the Salmon, the meat was so tender and fresh. The flavours were just right. They accept cards as well. I hear the desserts are also excellent but I haven’t tried them personally. The gyoza was juicy. It also has veg options for vegetarians. Overall we had a great lunch.

Takenoko has been known for years as a great sushi restaurant in Zagreb. We spent our anniversary there and although the food was good I was not that impressed. The service was not on the level that I expected it to be, on the bill I saw that we got the wrong wine, and just the overall experience was not excellent. I think at this price point it should be better, especially the service.

They must have changed their Chef and fish supplier, because they got better! I must admit, that I stopped visiting this restaurant a year ago since I became bored with their menu... Finally, they have added a few more dishes and all of those new dishes are fabulous. Now, I am looking forward to go for lunch or dinner again soon!

All good here…location, ambiance, music ( upbeat but in the background). , clean, modern, chic. Food was authentic, as fresh as is possible, and delicious. Service was friendly and fast. Near everything you want to do in Zagreb that is fun! Enjoy this place!
