A ‘Top Chef’ Alum is Bringing Texas Brisket to Taku | Eater Seattle

"I learned that Shota Nakajima is collaborating with Evelyn Garcia at Taku to offer a brisket rice bowl that combines their talents: brisket flown from Texas topped with a yuzu kosho teriyaki glaze, peanut nuoc cham, crunchy chicken bits, herbs, and pickles. It will be available for pickup for $25 from Taku’s takeout on June 25 between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. (or until sold out), with preorders expected to be available on Nakajima’s Instagram, and a portion of proceeds designated for Lambert House." - Jade Yamazaki Stewart

Google
We had a great experience at Taku Sushi. Vu was our server and was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We got sushi, miso soup, French fries for the kid, and cooked mussels. Everything was absolutely amazing!! We'll definitely be back again. 5 stars all dayyy. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Google
Really tasty sushi, best and freshest tasting I’ve had in the Denver Metro area. Recommended to me by my Japanese coworker who loves Taku Sushi too. My first time trying Unagi and it was a great buttery flavor. Went back a second time and just as delicious. My 4 year old son loves the avocado roll.

Google
Amazing flavors! The fish and chips had me dancing in my seat. The sexy devil roll was sweet and savory. The playgirl roll was seasoned to perfection. Great service, relaxing atmosphere, and very good prices. A new favorite spot! UPDATE (5 months later): Taku Sushi has quickly become one of my go-to restaurants, and for good reason. I’ve been here many times over the past few months, and what stands out most is the incredible consistency—both the food and the service are excellent every single time. One server in particular, Vu, always provides outstanding service—friendly, attentive, and professional—but honestly, the entire staff is amazing. Everyone works together to make sure every visit feels special and relaxed. The food is just as impressive. Whether it’s their beautifully presented bento boxes, fresh and flavorful sushi, perfectly cooked fried rice, or even their unique twist on fish and chips, everything tastes fantastic. Their lunch specials are also a great deal, offering top-quality food at unbeatable prices. Taku Sushi delivers a fine dining experience without the fine dining prices. Consistently delicious food, warm service, and great value—keep up the great work!

Google
Good sushi and excellent service! The presentation is fun and the sushi is high quality and reasonably priced. One of the rolls we ordered came out wrong, but the staff caught it quickly and brought the correct one without any hassle. Overall, a pleasant experience and worth a visit.

Google
I ordered the food through UberEats, and the sushi and sashimi were incredibly fresh. It was delivered very fast as well. I only noticed the hair when I was almost finished. I cook often, and even when I’m very careful, I sometimes still find a hair in my own food—it happens. However, it may be helpful for the chef to use a hairnet or similar protection in the future. PS: I have longer hair.

Google
A nice place to get sushi. It’s best when you’re in the mood for some sushi rolls, because they have lots of good ones with interesting ingredients. They also go really hard on the plating, which is cool.

Google
Went here for the first time tonight and had a really lovely time. My husband, son, and I ordered 3 rolls and an order of chicken katsu. All were delicious. Would be great if they offered high chairs to those dining with littles, but my 2.5 year old did fine sitting on my husband’s lap. We will absolutely return.

Bee R.

Google
Had the best service ever this evening! The two men working as servers tonight deserve a huge raise ! They were friendly , inviting and personable. My husband and I had a fantastic time . The food was delicious, as well! The presentations were amazing! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
It's a tradition in my family for the person celebrating a birthday to pick a restaurant of their choice - and this year was Taku Sushi for my brother-in-law! We made reservations and arrived a little early to a packed restaurant. No surprise considering it was a Friday night, but reminding staff of our reservation created a little bit of a wait for our party of 10. Once we were seated, a nice, young server came to us to take our drink order. Some opted for cocktails, others for soda, some just sipped on water. The selection of sushi rolls, hand rolls, soups, salads and appetizers is outstandingly huge. I was tasked with ordering for the group, so I rattled off 20 ish rolls that seemed good to everyone's liking. Seaweed and Kani salads made their way around the table, along with crispy tuna rice and tempura veggies - a great way to start! YUM! Then....the largest sushi boat I have ever sailed our way - filled to the brim with our rolls and displayed in the most fun and creative way!! I captured a video of the magic and 2.3 million people on TikTok seemed to like it as much as we did! The sushi was fresh, delicious and totally hit the spot. I overordered for our group (some ordered their own entrees) so we left with many to-go boxes for next day's enjoyment! Pricing is on point and reasonable for the quality and freshness of the fish. Our bill for all of us with everything was under $400 which was shocking to me! I will take off 1 star for service. I know our party was huge, requested a large amount of food and drinks, but service lacked. A space for us wasn't ready upon arrival (creating a wait/rush to push tables together for our party), our waters were never refilled, extra plates never cleared, cocktails/beer forgotten (which we didn't end up paying for considering we didn't get it), and the entire experience left us kind of disappointed - but willing to give the place another shot. Having worked in food service, I understand the issues associated with larger parties and the pressure it creates, so I'd come back - and especially for to-go orders! yum!

Yelp
Great rolls for price. This is a very casual sushi spot! Great if you're just wanting something simple and quick!

Yelp
This is a decent sushi place! I had the opportunity to do a super quick take out today and the service as well as the quality of the sushi both checked out. I was the only customer at the time of arrival at the restaurant at/around 3:45pm. Way past the lunch time; too early for dinner. Since the restaurant stays open not taking any break between lunch and dinner, the best time to go here either dine in or take out must be a little before 4pm. The lady who greeted me said it opened about two years ago. Conveniently located in the southeast corner of University and Dry Creek, it is still a very clean restaurant. And it's quite spacious too. The regular menu as well as the sushi menus are a good size with wide variety of dishes, nigiris and rolls. They only do happy hour for drinks however (M-F, 3-6pm, beers are $3 and BOGO hot sake.) All my nigiri sushis were a good portion; they tasted fresh. They gave me plenty of ginger and wasabi in the container. This is a good neighborhood sushi place I can count on for a quick quality meal and service. I'm pretty sure I'll swing by midday like I did today when I'm hungry for some nigiri in the future.

Yelp
WOW! What an incredible spot for sushi. I came here with my sister-in-law, for a fun girls lunch out. The sushi was SO FRESH and the presentation was incredible. Do not sleep on this place, absolutely make time for a meal here.

Yelp
I love this sushi spot!! Found this place about a year ago. Always great service and amazing sushi every time!! Great ambiance very low key nice decor plenty of seating great place to have lunch/ dinner with friend and family. And the 2 for 1 sake!! Must!
google avatar

Ra Q.

Yelp
We are entirely obsessed with this restaurant. The sake is buy one get one always and it is fresh and changed regularly, unlike other places. Fish is super fresh, rolls are delicious (sexy devil is our favorite), ramen particularly delicious. The service is the absolute best and we feel so welcome and happy when we are here. They also have a fantastic fish tank. We have become regulars because we cannot get enough of this place. I would 100% recommend trying it if you have not already.

Yelp
Honestly, the weekday lunch specials are the best thing about this place. They are the main reason I come in! Good sushi, good appetizers, and decently quick service for sushi. I've never had a bad experience here, and the inside is always clean and inviting

Walkup L.

Yelp
Taku Sushi is the worst sushi restaurant. No hair coverings. Their food is excessively expensive and the customer service is disrespectful. The ambiance overall is decent. Save your money and appetite for restaurants that genuinely care about making good food & value their customers.
google avatar

Gabriella B.

Yelp
Nice sushi spot! Staff was great and food came out quick. I liked all of their specialty rolls. Spicy crispy tuna rice was ok. Would come back
google avatar

Dave H.

Yelp
Dropped in for dinner one evening. Yes, they serve sushi, but the menu is very broad with other Japanese dishes, so if you're not a sushi fan, you're covered. Service was pretty good. The place was a little noisy. A number of families with kids were there. Will be back.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
I randomly stopped here for lunch, and the staff was incredibly nice. Taku's was very clean, but didn't smell like cleaner, which is always a great thing for me- personally! The sushi was divine. Honestly one of the best sushi establishments I've been to since I've moved to CO, three years ago! Will definitely be back. Thanks again- cheers!

Yelp
This is my wifes favorite sushi spot in Colorado- so far. I also really liked this place, the sushi was great. The ambiance is a bit nicer sushi spot. The presentation of the sushi was fantastic, they used dry ice it was great. The service was good, they're gonna take good care of you. I felt the prices of everything was fair, better value than average. When I'm near this restaurant again I will definately be back. It's great to start finding fresh sushi spots that you like in Colorado. Lot's of good rolls, lots of yummy fish to try. Recommended & happy eating!!

Yelp
I actually like this restaurant. Not in the city, which is awesome.. The sushi; sashimi, rolls, hand rolls all are decent. I will certainly go again... The service is fine and the ambiance is fine as well.. Go here for food....

Yelp
We love coming back to this place! The staff are always so welcoming, and the food is consistently fresh and delicious.

Yelp
As you walk in, pay close attention to their specials. When we went, they had a Taku Spring Roll - made with spicy tuna, mango, cilantro, jalapeño, avocado wrapped with rice paper. This was our second appetizer - we always start with their seared King Salmon - you have to try it. We also enjoyed their version of a spicy tuna biscuit. Their rolls are a bit large, so order carefully. You can always order more. The restaurant is bright, very clean to enjoy your lunch or dinner
google avatar

Yelp
I had some of the daily sushi specials and everything was amazing and delicious. The presentation was beautiful and I'm regretful that I didn't take a picture to post. The service was fast and our server was very attentive. The atmosphere was also very nice comfortable and relaxing. Also, the Thai tea was the best I've had!
google avatar

Yelp
Had their chicken katsu this time. Was light and crunchy. Decent quantity. Place was hopping. Service was good. Enjoyed the company and relaxing environment.

Yelp
Came here again for dinner with my boys. We saw the owner again. Super nice and friendly as well as his staff. My boys ordered a sushi roll from their 'specials' menu as an appetizer. We also ordered calamari and shrimp tempura too to start. All were very delicious! The owner asked us if we would be the first to taste test his spicy miso ramen. It was fabulous! We loved the flavor of the broth and the charred chasu in the ramen. Definitely hope that he incorporates ramen into his menu in the near future! We ordered many other sushi rolls and it came out so beautifully as always. So delicious we finished it all. Thank goodness we all came on an empty stomach! Thank you Peter for another wonderful meal at your restaurant.

Yelp
Came here for lunch the first of the year in 2023 for a lunch meeting. They weren't super busy which allowed us to sit immediately (they have a sushi bar & tables). The server was super kind and prompt with service. We ordered a specialty salmon roll (which was fantastic), a salmon sushi menu item and a cappuccino. All items had great tasty flavors and were so fresh. Great experience and highly recommend!
google avatar

Angie R.

Yelp
No complaints. I stopped in for lunch and had their bento box special. It's a lot of food and pretty good! The staff was great and the service was quick and efficient

Yelp
Was in the mood for sushi early on Saturday, around 2-3pm, and as always, I checked Yelp to find a sushi place that was rated 4 Stars or higher. I found Taku Sushi which was only about 10 minutes from us, and it was rated in my range, so we decided to give it a try. So we went there early, and were the only people in the restaurant as I'm sure they were getting ready for a busy Saturday night, I have a personal thing that I only eat sushi(or fish for that matter) in Colorado from Thursday to Sunday. If you were in the biz, I'm sure you would know why. The freshest fish is always from Thursday to Sunday. Taku was immaculate inside, the server, who was a male(sorry, I didn't get his name) was extremely personable, knew the menu inside & out, and was a pleasure to have as our server. The only thing I forgot to do was take pictures of the food, probably because the sushi was so damn good!!! Trust me on this!!! We started off with 2 types of Sake, both cold, the Strawberry Ozeki for me & the Hakuturu Sayuri Sake for my wife. Excellent choices as both went really good with what we ate. I will say that if you don't like sweet Sake, then don't get the Starwberry Ozeki, stick with a cold or hot Sake that isn't sweet. For our appetizers we chose the Monkey Brain(I know, really strange name for a food) but it was EXCELLENT!!! It's hot (as in Temperature), and the waiter explained that it's basically a stuffed avocado & then deep fried. The sushi inside, the sauce, the whole app was EXCELLENT. We also got the Spicy Crispy Tuna (if you've read my Sushi reviews then you know I LOVE Spicy Tuna dishes & it's usually one of my criteria for rating a Sushi place) and d again, this was pure excellence! Again this was a hot dish, but loaded with sushi inside! For entrees, we chose 4 of them (yes, we were only 2 people, but obviously we had enough to take home for a 2nd meal) the Heart Attack roll, the Crunchy Spicy Tuna roll (same name as the App, but different, trust me), the Crazy Tuna roll & last but certainly not least was the Spider-Man roll (we both really LOVE any roll with tempura Soft Shell Crab in it). I really wish I had taken pictures of our meal, it was presented EXCELLENTLY & tasted just as great!!! I'm not sure if they took extra steps because we went so early, but I doubt it. Everything was picture perfect. Generous amounts of pickled ginger & wasabi graced the plates, along with generous amounts of Sushi Rolls. This place is really GREAT & I am sure it's just as good from 5pm on!!! I haven't lead you wrong so far, so please give Taku a try if you're looking for fresh, excellent Sushi!!!

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Placed a pick up order and got my order as soon as I walked in. Hostess was super friendly and my order was accurate including special requests. Sushi is reasonably priced and they offer my favorite NY Roll (Tuna, instead of salmon, cream cheese and cucumber) delish! First time trying this place and I was happy with my experience. Definitely will be coming back!
google avatar

Tracy L.

Yelp
Loved the friendly staff and the service was so prompt. The restaurant was clean with lots of natural light and great ambience. Our server, Mason, was incredibly fast and very knowledgeable of the menu. He made excellent recommendations of the specials which we tried 3 rolls and especially loved the Playgirl and Hawaiian rolls plus the amazing Spring rolls full of spicy tuna, avocado, jalapeño and mango was SO flavorful and fresh! Food was delish and presentation lovely with fresh flowers! Looking forward to returning with the family!
google avatar

Leonard S.

Yelp
We came here for dinner on Friday night and were blown away by the quality. The toro was daunting at $19 for two pieces, but because the cuts were so generous it was like having four pieces---an incredible deal. More importantly , the quality was top tier, comparable to highest level sushi places we ate at recently in NYC and LA. The chirashi bowl was of similar high quality and large quantity. The yakisoba noodles were a massive amount of hot, fresh, high quality ingredients. Really A+, including for the attentive and friendly service!
google avatar

Andrea K.

Yelp
Fabulous lunch specials and fresh fish! I ordered 3 rolls for $15 which came with soup or salad. I opted for the spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and regular tuna rolls. The spicy salmon was my favorite followed closely by spicy tuna. They were all good though. The bento boxes are a great deal. I liked the teriyaki salmon on top of crisp veggies. It did need hot sauce though! I wasn't a big fan of the salad and wish it would be a cucumber salad instead. It also comes with a 4 piece California roll. I felt like it had way too much mayo and it was definitely imitation crab. We will definitely return to this new sushi spot though!
google avatar

Kelisha D.

Yelp
Service was so nice and attentive they have a large tv in the dining area that showed a street walk-though of Japan that made you feel like you where eating there. The sushi was very tasty as well and I can't wait to go back Ave bring my friends!
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
First time trying Taku Sushi and WOW! This was really great food. We ordered to-go, so I can't comment on the service, other than our order was ready when we asked to pick it up and the woman at the register was super friendly. The photos already posted of the interior do it justice. It is very clean and inviting inside with a nice bar area and setup. We ordered the sushi for two and a couple of spicy scallop hand rolls. All of the nigiri was very fresh and cut in perfect portions. My pictures probably don't convey how generous the cuts were, but they were amazing! The rolls were excellent and very flavorful. This may be strange, but I judge a sushi restaurant by their hand rolls. If they are stingy with their fish, the handroll will be mostly rice or some filler. The hand rolls here had scallops throughout and were delicious! Prices were very consistent with most sushi restaurants in town. We have been long time customers of a sushi restaurant a few blocks down the road, but are now converts to Taku Sushi for sure. This place is the bomb!
google avatar

jackie w.

Yelp
I'm sorry, but this was by far the worst sushi experience I've had. I'm only giving it a 2 star because they offered us a 30% discount for the screw up. The rice was completely unseasoned and the fish did not taste very fresh. I ended up telling the server about the underseasoned rice and they offered to remake everything, but by then we were already over the the experience. They offered us a 30% discount, which was appreciated, but we only ended up eating like 2 rolls of the 7 we ordered. I don't know if we were just here on a bad day but it was so bad, I don't think I would ever return.
google avatar

Evelyn B.

Yelp
Great staff, you can really tell that they love their job. The food is great and so is the prevention. The inside of the restaurant is very clean and nice. Would definitely recommend going.
google avatar

Kern B.

Yelp
Great service. Good sushi. The squid yakisoba is exceptional. Worthy of the Shin Osaka train terminal

sharon s.

Yelp
Our first time to Taku, the restaurant is nicely decorated and very clean. We ordered 5 rolls and some nigiri and all were excellent. My favorite was the spider roll and the sweet shrimp nigiri. The salmon sashimi was amazing... everything was very fresh. We really enjoyed the chicken katsu as well. The servers were super friendly and provided great service. This is definitely our spot for sushi going forward.
google avatar

Renaye V.

Yelp
I really wanted to like it more than I did. The service was 5 stars, the presentation is also 5 stars, but the food... Everything we ordered, and we ordered a lot, tasted the same. I could really tell what I was eating. I mean it wasn't bad, it just wasn't great. I like spicy sushi so we ordered a few spicy items. Nothing was spicy at all. My daughter hates spice, and she was eating everything. The one good thing is their pricing is fair. They have a customer appreciation right now, spend $50 get 15% off or spend $100 and get 20% off, so that helped. I really did like how they put all the sushi we ordered in this big boat. And how they gave us yummy pineapple for dessert.
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
The was delicious, and the service was remarkable. We had such a nice evening! The volcano roll was a hit, but the sashimi told the story: it was fresh and melted in our mouths. Our waitress was outstanding and as friendly as a person can be. I ordered two-for-one hot Sake, but my wife wasn't drinking. I am a cheap date, so there was no way I was going to finish two larges. I sent the second one to the chefs, and they repaid us with an awesome tempura salad!
google avatar

Minh N.

Yelp
Ive never dined in here. I cannot speak to the ambiance or the service. Based on delivery only. I've been ordering from here for a few years now. Love it, usually. This time around, Some of the sushi rolls had an iffy smell to it. Not iffy enough for me to avoid trying it but I didn't go past 1-2 bites. I didn't have any post tummy issues at all but it did rumble the rest of the night. All in all and unfortunately, the cooked and uncooked food did not feel or taste fresh and was not up to par today (Ex: sashimi squid felt dehydrated along the edges & hamachi Kama might've been a bit over cooked). Gave it 3 stars because historically great.
google avatar

Richard G.

Yelp
Had takeout for the first time and really enjoyed our entire take out order. We did a variety of rolls and and sushi. SORRY but can't remember exactly what we had. The fish was fresh and a nice size slices. We will go back.

Laura R.

Yelp
I love this place!! Every roll I've tried has been absolutely delicious! Service is great also....highly recommend!
google avatar

Elsie J.

Yelp
Taku is such a great little spot even though it doesn't look like much on the outside and is located in a small strip mall. The sushi however is worth it! The fish is always fresh (with blue fish being flown in ever few days) and the roll variety is excellent. I highly recommend the Godzilla and heart attack rolls. More important the service has been incredible. One of our favorite waitresses (who is sadly leaving soon) has treated us with such kindness and remembered us ever time we came in! Everyone works incredibly hard but also has a great time while doing it. If you are ever in South Denver - definitely check it out!
google avatar

Shea C.

Yelp
We did the omakase for 2 and it was absolutely delicious! All of the fish was extremely fresh and the bluefin tuna and toro were as buttery as they can get! Presentation was top notch and service was great too. Pricing was very reasonable and there's even a Groupon available (we didn't see at the time, but bought one for our next visit). Hot sake is also BOGO. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Gordon S.

Yelp
Super great all you can eat. Get there 15-30 minutes early for lunch. Opens at 11 am.
google avatar

Todd F.

Yelp
My family and I had a very good dining experience at Taku. Great service, really good sushi, and excellent food presentation. The restaurant is very well decorated and lighted. Attention to detail from food prep, food presentation, restaurant design, and teamwork service. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Rylan R.

Yelp
We randomly stopped here on the way to the airport and were not disappointed! The good sized sashimi pieces were delicious and presented beautifully. I wish I got photos but the food looked so yummy I didn't remember in time. Our server was great and the vibe is bright and chill.
google avatar

Martha C.

Yelp
High-quality sushi presented beautifully with an extra flare. Very impressive small but lovely restaurant with pleasant ambience. We have been there several times and never disappointed with the sushi however, I do not recommend their shrimp tempura which lacked flavor and the crunchiness. I usually enjoy with tempura.

Kyle S.

Yelp
This is a great little sushi gem. The staff is VERY friendly and the food is amazing. Try the Godzilla roll!!!! The Taku Signature Roll was creamy good. Apps: Blue Fin Tuna and jalapeños and the coconut shrimp. Let's say for two of us, we were full. We went on a weekday. They seemed a little understaffed for the crowd but still managed to bring in good service. One critique. The wasabi could use a touch more kick. But hey, that's not a complaint. That's always a roll of the dice.

Loretta C.

Yelp
Such fresh yellow tail! Lovely menu. My plate came decorated with sprigs if pink flowers ( not real still very pretty) Reasonable prices I'll be back!
google avatar

Lisa N.

Yelp
Finally tried this out as I pass it pretty frequently. The rolls are more on the pricey side from what I'm used to but this has been one of the better sushi places I have been to so far. The flavors were good on both however I feel like they could use something crunchy (like tempura flakes) since they're a little too much on the soft side in my opinion. I would definitely recommend and try this place again though!

Matt M.

Yelp
Specially roles were pretty good. The regular rolls unfortunately were not good, because they barely had any fish in them! Who wants huge cream cheese rolls with no fish? Bummer.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
I enjoyed the rolls. For the amount of ingredients and the freshness of each roll, I think its worth it if you have a sushi craving. The only downside is that it is overpriced in my opinion. Any specialty roll will cost you roughly $15+ and I just don't agree with it for the ingredients that are put into each roll. Great taste, good atmosphere, however, be weary on what you order or you'll be spending more there than you would think.
