Hit and miss. Shrimp taco was really good, delicate and tasty. Tuna taco was fridge cold, so there was little to no taste. The sesame cucumber was just cold raw cucumber from the fridge with some cheap sauce on it. Pulled pork taco was the definition of uninteresting. Friendly service. This is nevertheless one of the too many mid places in Chelsea Market that gives the whole place an aura of tourist trap. We definitely prefer the nearby food market Pier 57 to Chelsea Market.

I can't hate on a mashup of my two favorite cuisines. We got the spinach avocado salad topped with salmon sashimi, nachos with salmon sashimi, plus braised short rib and chicken tacos. All mouthwateringly good and the portion sizes were on point. It's a stalking game to get a seat at the bar so we grabbed a picnic table outside the 15th street entrance and refreshed with Takumi's hibiscus lemongrass iced tea. So glad we added this stop to our High Line walks!

We could literally see the steam rushing out. The beef fully absorbs the curry stew. So tender and packed with flavors. ＊Spicy Tuna* The tuna cubes are mixed with creamy spicy mayo and not fishy. It is served cold, and tastes extra refreshing with slices cucumbers. I heard their bowls aren’t up to par though. If you dislike their other food, give it another try and get the crispy tacos. I got the chicken rice bowl, and it wasn't that great. I generally love both Japanese and Mexican, but this fusion was average. Absolutely no place to sit and eat. Had to take out the meal.

Bar seating. We were lucky to grab 2 seats as someone else was leaving. They are very good about checking on you and service was very quick. We both ordered bento boxes. 2 tacos and a side for $13.78. Not bad for lunch. That was enough for me. Husband ended up ordering 2 more curry beef tacos. I got the braised short rib taco, shrimp taco and cucumber side. All were very good. They give you some chips too that have seasoning on them. The chips were perfect to pick up anything that fell out of my tacos. Check in on yelp and got 10% off. But don’t do it until you are ready to pay. I checked in when we sat down but the server said we will do it later. When we were ready to pay, it said I couldn’t check in for another 4 hours. Thank goodness they let me use it. I did show it to him when we sat down.

Don't get the bowls. I've been wanting to come for awhile because I love fusion restaurants. I was highly disappointed unfortunately. I got a burrito bowl with double meat but they drowned it in sauce. Not only was my bowl soup-like, the sauce was so salty. The curry beef was very tasty despite this but the bowl itself was very unsatisfying. My partner got one too and his bowl was the same. When we told them, they gave us a huge plate of extra rice but unfortunately it didn't really help. I hear the tacos are better so if you come, avoid the bowls and try the tacos for me because I can't return. Service was really good though. 2 stars given solely for the food.

Excellent fusion style tacos. We tried four different varieties with the bento box option. Huge portions and good value. Tacos were very tasty and service was incredibly fast. Very busy place at lunchtime so may be hard to find a table. Try it out!

Chelsea market is amazing! I wish I took more pics but we were starving. Tostado was delicious! Order extras up front, because if you want more you’d have to wait online again to order which could take about another 30mins. Portions are small, but hey it’s NY.

Was able to get a seat at the bar. We tried the adobo and curry tacos and made it a bento. The curry taco was our favorite because it was different and the curry was really flavorful and tasty. We got charred corn salad as our side with the chips. This spot is good if you want a quick bite but it is in an area that's more noisy and lot foot traffic and seems to fill seating up quick.

Not vegan but eating deliberately to reduce inflammation, that being said...I ordered the cauliflower al pastor & lentil veggie tacos with sides of charred corn salad and chips & salad. The lentils are lightly curried served in a crispy gyoza shell and I absolutely had to order a second one: delicious! The cauliflower al pastor was fine but I don't like my food sweet, I save that for dessert, and the pineapple pico de gallo was too sweet for me. (I also won't eat pineapple on my pizza, so if this is you; don't let my review deter you I just prefer my food savory and spicy) The charred corn salad was also delicious...they top it with a guacamole purée and I ate every last bite. The salsa was good and the chips were crispy. I'll definitely be back

Takumi Taco was a pleasant surprise! I'm usually turned off from "fusion" style places, but I decided to give it a try after seeing it packed in Chelsea Market. I ordered the bento box, which is $13.50 for two tacos of your choice and one side. NYC restaurant prices are usually super expensive, but I found this place to be reasonable. The menu is labeled to designate options suitable for gluten free or vegan individuals. Some options are labeled with "VA", which means vegan option available and you just have to verbally request that your dish be made vegan. I really liked how the menu was easy to navigate, and suitable for differing needs. In my bento box, I had one tofu tinga taco (Tofu in adobo) and the Japanese lentil taco (tasted curry-like), with a side of the charred corn salad. They were super delicious, flavorful, and decent portions. My mom is not vegan, so she had the chicken adobo taco and spicy tuna taco. She said they were both really good! I also want to give an honorable mention to the lychee tea because it was sooo good and refreshing. The seating was a little tight because it is bar seating. But other than that, I really enjoyed this place and look forward to returning!

Somewhere to tie us over until dinner... This place was amazing, fluid from my birthday weekend... Started off at the Whitney museum to see the Alvin Ally dance display and then end up at the Chelsi market for lunch. Enjoy the seafood nachos. The service was great as they were super busy but right on par. The drinks were amazing first, I had a rosé, and then I had a sake cold.

Came here to find something affordable around Chelsea and this place fit the mark. This isn't a typical taco restaurant. There's bar seating and it seems pretty chill. Nothing mind blowing or anything new but it was a nice blend of cuisines. We got the curry beef, brisket, and a shrimp taco with slaw and corn salad. It was all very good and would definitely come back if I'm feeling hungry in the area. The service was fast and the food did too. It's great to see that they have a 10% discount from Yelp.

I'm pretty cautious of asian fusion tacos/burritos but also when theyre done well then i find that pretty impressive. And the more creative the better. And I'd say that a japanese curry taco is pretty dang creative. And it was done well. I really enjoyed the flavors. Tender, rich, and somehow still a taco.

Love the concept: Mexican and Japanese fusion but the execution could be done better. The tacos could've used more flavor and the meat could be more tender. But they are doing a promotion from Oct 15 to Nov 15 and the yellow tail taco is amazing! The yellowtail tasted fresh and the diced apples were a nice touch. The sake mangonada was also so strong but delicious. Def recommend! The bento box which consisted of 2 tacos and a side were just okay.

Enjoyed the Chelsea Market a lot and one of the best parts was eating in Takumi! The food is super good and the fusion of flavors is amazing, is not like the regular taco you will have in any Mexican Place. The gyoza tortillas make a huge difference they are so crispy and crunchy. The service and place are very nice and fun, there are no tables but you seat around the bar and kitchen, you get to see the staff preparing your food and drinks so its part of the experience, everything is fresh and made in the moment! Definitely a place to try when visiting this NYC market.

I only tried the beef curry taco, but it was tasty! Definitely captured the essence of medium spicy curry in the shredded beef. I liked the two chips that came with the taco. Seats are limited at the bar but keep an eye out, eating and watching the food being prepared was fun. They were very quick with my taco and I would love to come back to try their poke and shrimp tacos. There are bathrooms located downstairs and those were pretty clean!

The service was excellent, and the vegan tacos were extremely delicious. I loved the fresh tacos, chips, and homemade salsa. I am very impressed with this restaurant, and the atmosphere was perfect at any time of day.

Pretty solid Japanese Mexican fusion in Chelsea market. I like to get their burrito bowl with spicy tuna. The flavoring is quite tasty! The spicy tuna has some crunchy thing inside that makes it quite refreshing. Service is fast.

Were in Chelsea Market and wanted a quick bite to eat. Came across Takumi Taco and thought it would be interesting to try out Japanese Mexican fusion food. The place was busy with limited seating around the bar. It could be a little hectic to figure out where the line starts to place your order or where the waiting area is to pick up your food. But once the order was placed, the food came out pretty quickly, despite the place being so busy. For the food, we ordered from the Taco section, Japanese Curry Beef, Chicken Adobo and Chipotle Shrimp. We also ordered Pineapple infused Iced Tea. All the tacos tasted fine with decent flavor. To be there was no "wow" factor to it that would make me go back there again. It was just decent tacos.

Simple salad! I got the spinach avocado salad with Japanese curry beef. The salad had basic ingredients - cucumber, grape tomatoes, lettuce, and spinach. The dressing was really amazing - citrus ponzu. It didn't really have a citrus taste, but definitely ponzu. The Japanese curry beef really complimented the Asian dressing of the salad. The beef was a bit on the harder side, but it was well seasoned. This salad was also on the smaller side. Service was fast. You order and pick up at the counter. There is open seating. This was located in Chelsea market so the place was lively and filled with people.

Chelsea market is the perfect place for indecisive couples My boyfriend and I were super pleased with choosing this place. For appetizer we ordered the tuna poke nachos. The quality of the tuna was better than most sushi places I've been too. For dinner , my boyfriend got the short rib rice bowl and I got the curry beef taco and adobo chicken taco. Very authentic Japanese flavors with a nice Mexican twist. I was really pleased and how flavorful the food was and everything was up to my expectation. I can't wait to go back.

Coming from California I was definitely craving some tacos so I had to try Takumi. Can I just say... probably some of the best tacos I've had in my life. Got the Japanese Beef Curry and Shrimp Chipotle and a side of corn salad for about $15 (Bento Box). Pretty good deal for two huge tacos and a side. The JBC taco was packed full of flavor. Beef was piled inside the light and crispy shell! The SC taco was chilled like a lobster roll and not heavy at all. Very flavorful and refreshing. I love the fusion aspect- light tempura style taco shells and Japanese flavors of curry and yuzu etc. Possibly the best tacos in NYC???

100% try the poke nachos, they were AMAZING. Helpful folks working there to explain the menu, and it was a bit cramped but the whole market is like that so I don't take off any points there (though be forewarned). Speaking of forewarned, no free refills. Really noticed it especially since some of the dries the pallet; on that note, definitely try the sweet peach tea. Food comes out pretty fast too which is super helpful when you're starving!

A very skippable spot with underwhelming and uninspired food. My group got a few tacos and sides. The dishes look pretty sloppy when they comes out and don't taste much better. The short rib was nowhere near tender enough and one note in flavor. I actually liked the spicy tuna mix, especially for the jicama and radish for freshness and texture. However, the "gyoza" shell taco is actually quite oily which gives it a stale feel despite being pretty crunchy. The "blackened corn" side was basically canned corn and raw black beans and was seriously missing seasoning. Just make the line at Los tacos no. 1 or pick any of the other myriad options in Chelsea Market.

Takumi Taco is a branch of a local mini-chain. This review is for the Chelsea Market location. Given the constant crowds in the Chelsea Market it is difficult for any restaurant/shop to keep up with the volume. Takumi Taco does an excellent job and their food is very good.

Welcome to Takumi Taco in the bustling Chelsea Market! This casual spot offers quick service for take-out options, though the lack of a designated waiting area can make things a tad chaotic. Let's taco 'bout the Japanese Beef Curry. It serves up a generous scoop of tender beef curry, but the fusion flair is limited to the taco shell. It's a solid 7/10, but the fusion "fusion" falls a bit flat. Next up, the Spicy Tuna. While it shares a similar fate with the beef curry in terms of fusion, the overall experience lands at a modest 6.5/10. And then we have the Japanese Rice and Beans. It's safe and familiar, but lacks that extra oomph, earning another 6.5/10. While Takumi Taco may not hit the bullseye when it comes to fusion, it still offers a lively atmosphere and decent flavors. If you're in the mood for a casual taco fix, give it a try, but don't expect mind-blowing fusion fireworks.

Tucked away in Chelsea Market is an excellent fusion taco joint. The seared tuna and spicy tuna tostadas are delicious, with super fresh fish and flavors that play really well off of each other. The beef curry taco is just something else. Who would think tacos and curry go together?? My mind was blown lol. Really excellent, with the curry flavor and tender beef really shining through. Service was super friendly and you get that street side vibe when you sit at the counter. Just be prepared to wait for space to open up as this place is popular and crowded. But if you have patience, it is well worth the wait :)

I'm always hitting up the c. market when in NYC. The chicken teriyaki chicken bowl was ok. Lots of chicken and tons of rice. It was moist. Wasn't bad and satisfied my hunger. The staff were nice. Seating is super tight. Did a grab and go.

I wanted to try this place because the Mexican Japanese fusion is pretty unique- I think their beef curry taco was really good. However the rest of the food (I got chicken adobo and corn salad) was pretty mediocre. The quantity is not particularly high either; I got a bento box for $15 and got very few chips and side. The main thing I got that was worth it was the curry taco.

Takumi tacos was an awesome Spot to hangout, drink some MANGONADAs, and eat some delicious curry beef tacos! Loved the service and vibe amongst the crowd of people flowing through Chelsea market.

Eh, 2.5 stars. I got the rice bowl with grilled chicken and it was alright! About $14 for that. I it was pretty basic and a little dry but i got a side of salsa which helped. My friend got the bento box and did the chipotle shrimp and the grilled chicken taco and loved it. Our waited checked on us one time when we called him over so service was alright. Good fun atmosphere sitting around the bar though! I think there's better places to eat within steps from here.

Grabbed two carnitas burritos for a quick lunch at this spot in Chelsea Market. Pricey ($32 for two burritos), but it's in NYC, afterall, and the burritos were fat. I didn't get the "Japanese inspired" claim; they tasted exactly like regular burritos to me. Anyway, service was fast and we managed to find seats at Ting's Jamaican, which is a good thing because the burritos completely fell apart and would NOT have made a good handheld lunch.

Great food, great service and great seats to watch all of the Chelsea Market visitors! We stopped here for a beer and guac. The chips are unique and very good. The guacamole is fresh and chunky with jalapeños, tomatoes and onions.

Casual spot/bar for a quick catch-up with friends! Only tried the Mangonada & poke nachos here. Recommended both! Service was fast as well.

The letter "V" on their menu can mean both vegetarian and vegan. I didn't realize until I received my plate of food and noticed the cotija crumbles on my lentil taco. The male waiter got upset because I requested food without cheese because I am a vegan. He said, you should've told me and got upset and said, well now I have to throw the food away and shook his head. Not a way to treat a paying customer, who's supporting your business. As a recommendation, the restaurant needs to add another acronym to items that are vegan. Perhaps add "V" for vegan and "Veg" for vegetarian. It's misleading when "V" is the only vegan/vegetarian acronym on the menu. Also, when a different waiter took my plate away, she immediately placed the square card reader in front of me, so I could pay my bill. I wasn't even done dining yet nor did I ask for my bill. I totally felt rushed and unaccommodated. On the positive side of things, the guy who delivered my food the second round was nice and accommodating. He seemed like he could've been the owner. As far as the food, I ordered the bento box that consisted the cauliflower and lentil taco with the japanese black bean rice. The lentil taco (without the cotija cheese) was the best thing on the plate.

5 STARS PEOPLE! That's saying something! When in New York, this place is a must go to. I've never EVER been to a place like it. It's a fusion of Mexican tacos and Japanese food. Now I know what you're thinking, but it was seriously the best taco places I've ever had. Plus it's fast and cheap! The pictures don't do it justice! This taco place is a mixture of Japanese food and Mexican. Now I know that sounds weird and not appealing but you're so so wrong. They have very unique tacos, drinks, burritos and bowls! If you're ever in the area, check them out! And get the shrimp tacos

DON'T go there. The concept is 'japanese inspired Mexican'. Think rice fried taco shells with ahi tuna. BUT, to our surprise, the taco was filled with a glutenous mayonnaise plus tons of chunks of jicama...a cheap, crunchy ingredient to make it appear filling. Virtually NO ahi tuna chunks in all three tacos. DON'T BE FOOLE: THIS IS A TOTAL RIP-OFF. The chips are cold and the salsas and guacamole are NOT home-made as advertise. poured from a food service jar. Service could'nt be less interested. AVOID.

Out of all the food choices in Chelsea Market, we chose this one since it was Japanese-inspired Mexican cuisine. ----- Bento Box: choose 2 tacos + 1 side ($13.32). We picked two Japanese Curry Beef tacos and Japanese Rice & Beans as the side. While the taco shell was crispy, it was hard to distinguish a curry flavor and the meat was not that tender. For the side, it tasted primary like Mexican rice and the black beans were still hard. We only ate a couple bites and discarded the rest. Expensive for the portion and quality of the food. A single taco costs $5.05 and a side is $5.51. The box included a side of chips but no dipping sauce. ----- The business is located in the block with PIA and Tings. Some of the customers sitting at the bar counter had the food served on actual plates instead of takeout containers. Perhaps it needs to be specified when placing the order at the register. Prices are as-is. Wi-Fi is available via the market.

Always down for fusion food! Takumi Taco had good food but didn't feel like it stood out? Their "tacos" are made out of crispy gyoza shells. While they were crispy, its clear that they were pre-fried, and thus kinda cold. As a result, the gyoza shells didn't really add to the tacos. I got try 2 different tacos. -The chipotle shrimp had a decent amount of shrimp pieces along with a light chipotle aioli, celery, edamame, and scallions. Pretty tasty overall but the sauce was more creamy than seasoned. Shrimp was good but I feel like I see this combo very commonly at poke places for example. -The spicy tuna also had some nice tuna mixed with jicama/cucumber in a spicy mayo sauce. Good amount of avocados!! Tasty but again felt like the flavor profile can be easily found elsewhere. They have bar seating and some additional standing bar areas specific for Takumi customers. Food came out at a reasonable time. Service was fine.

This place was unfortunately the lowlight of our trip to NYC. It was a snap decision while visiting the Chelsea Market and Food Hall, and we all wished we had done something else. We were seduced by the thought of Mexican and Japanese fusion. Two particularly flavorful cuisines that we all happen to enjoy. The menu sounded great, and we decided to go for it, without checking Yelp. Mistakes were made. We ordered one of every taco on the menu in the form of bento boxes with the exception of the tofu based one. The two best were the curry beef and the shrimp taco. The rest were decisively bland, as were the "gyoza" taco shells that we were overly excited about. The blandest item of all though was the burrito one of our party ordered. The chipotle chicken inside literally had zero flavor. All the other fillings like the beans and rice, also flavorless. Not even the Hot sauce we asked for could save it. It was mostly wasted. Very disappointed. Those two cuisines are two of the least bland on the planet. No idea how they came together to produce this letdown... But they did. Whomp whomp.

Stopped by here on a day trip to the city. I was curious about the Japanese Mexican fusion concept but was a bit let down. It seemed like two cuisines existing separately on the menu rather than a melding of both. Bento Box- You get two tacos and a side. I got the spicy tuna taco, carnitas taco, and the takumi slaw. I enjoyed the spicy tuna taco wonton shell but there was barely any tuna in the taco itself. It was filled with veggies instead. The carnitas were soft and the tomatillo sauce was flavorful, but the tortilla didn't taste homemade. The slaw is actually a side salad. Loved the sesame dressing but felt a bit misled by the description. The chips were really a bummer. They weren't crunchy and tasted a bit stale. All in all disappointed with the place. To top it off when I asked the employees about what options had dairy in it for my lactose intolerance, they couldn't give me answers. Probably not the best place for dietary restrictions. I don't plan on coming back.

Food here was good and filling but the service here was abrasive. I got the braised short rib, the carnitas, and tofu rings. All were good. The beer here is very good.

Had a yummy quick lunch. Lots of texture and flavors. Could benefit from an expanded drinks menu -- especially non alcoholic.

Fast service, fun vibe, decent tacos. It was a good stop for an affordable bite. The guacamole was delicious too.

This is my first time at the Chelsea Market and I'd say this is a one stop shop to try out all the cuisines you could think off. I was impressed by this place because they offered a mix of Japanese and Mexican cuisines that caught my attention. I got the coconut shrimp taco and the chicken taco served with a side of corn salad and nachos. My favorite was the hard shelled coconut shrimp that melted right away that went perfectly well with my Brooklyn lager. I highly recommend if you enjoy the cuisine.

So good. Posting review later...but I'll tell you I never thought edamame and black beans and rice went together perfectly.

I tend to be wary of some fusion places in food court areas but was pleasantly surprised with Takumi Taco. We were just walking around the area so wanted a snack and ordered their nachos with carnitas and their lychee iced tea. Overall the nachos were pretty tasty. The carnitas were tender and was a nice snack to hold us over. They're not the largest portions so you probably want to order some tacos or other sides if you're a little more hungry. They have some bar seating and a table but they are highly coveted so be on the lookout if you have a larger group as the space doesn't allow you to sit on the window sills or stairs. Would highly recommend their lychee iced tea since it was super refreshing and perfect for a summer day! We ended up ordering another one since it went so quickly.

The customer service is decent, wait time was average (about 10/15 minutes) but the food is bland. The prices are sufficient as well as serving sizes. It's a cute and convenient taco stand in Times Square.
