"This highly anticipated haven for dreamy sandwiches opened its doors just before the new year, bringing the talents of hospitality industry veteran Mike Finsilver to a petite space in Ferndale. Finsilver began popping up in spaces around the Detroit area with a spicy mortadella sandwich — made with crunchy semolina batards and filled with thinly sliced mortadella, a fiery bomba calabrese spread, and chopped iceberg lettuce salad in a preserved lemon buttermilk dressing. The mortadella is now on the menu at the cafe, in addition to the Clong — a thick-cut turkey sandwich featuring turkey raised on the west side of the state, provolone cheese, an herby mayo, a roasted cherry tomato spread, pickled shallots with dressed greens on focaccia bread. In addition, try a rotation of soups, which so far has included a mushroom gumbo and a dill pickle soup." - Serena Maria Daniels

I checked this place out because it was recently opened (3 weeks ago). I enjoyed the vibe inside as it was super simple and hipster. Very clean. I like that it has a minimal menu. That makes it so easy to choose what to eat. And they seem to have a sandwich option for every diet. I also like the bread. It's fresh and interesting. But honestly, that's the only thing interesting about the Clong sandwich. I would come back here again to try the other options, but the turkey on the Clong wasn't great quality. And the sandwich flavor was too subtle for my taste. A bit bland for the price. Service was great and, despite the paper sign, it was easy to find.

I visited Tall Trees for lunch today with a friend. It was a great experience. I ordered the Clong; it was delicious. Very flavorful, and the bread was a great texture (didn't cut up my mouth like some specialty breads do). I will absolutely be back!

Absolutely delicious sandwich! I had the Buffalo Jambon, and you could taste each and every ingredient used, even though it was so simple. The price reflects the quality of ingredients, so be prepared for a high quality sandwich. Service was great, as it should be. Great vibes and music. They also have an area where they sell local small business goods like high quality canned fish, from Dover Sole to Tuna, simple things like crackers, and even their own coffee. Additionally, there is a drink cooler with interesting sodas and other drinks, like mushroom cola and spicy ginger ale. Don’t listen to Michael Mullins, he only rates lowly on places he hasn’t even tried…. What a loser. And I plan on going back tomorrow to prove Cathy Pope’s dilapidated tastebuds wrong about the Clong sandwich. Looking forward to it!

Mike Fin is back! I’ve been waiting for this place to open cause I never got to Satellite food truck. Well I went for the first time today and had the best turkey sandwich of my life. Should’ve taken a picture but was too excited to get into it. The stars were the bread and the herbed (butter?), as they should be for a turkey sandwich! I liked the atmosphere, simple and relaxed with cool forest “trees” designed into the counter. Overall, I had very high expectations, and so far they’ve been blown away! I see this quickly becoming a weekly stop alongside their neighbor, *Secret Bakery* 🤫

The Turkey on Focaccia was super Herby and delicious with nice soft bread! I had low expectations when I walked in, but the food was rather good. I'd love to see them decorate the space with higher quality furniture and design to match the quality of the food. Right now the vibe is "somewhat uncomfortable and bare bones". This place has great potential.

The fact that this place is only several blocks from where I live means I will be eating at least two sandwiches a week for the rest of my life. At least. I also want to say that the negative reviews on here are just frankly wrong. If you know anything about a sandwich this is your place. The quality of the food is top tier. The combination of flavors is extremely unique, the textures complement each other beautifully in each bite. Not to mention the staff are amazing. If you're coming to a sandwich shop for nice furniture it might be time to take a look in the mirror (or just make a sandwich at home and sit on your couch)!

The food is unbelievably good! The sandwiches, plated dishes, and deserts are out of this world. The owner mike is great and the atmosphere is amazing. Don’t miss out on this gem!
