Beachy Mexican cantina from Zoe Nathan, Josh Loeb & Jeremy Fox, with seasonal California produce.
"This modern cantina just a few blocks from Will Rogers State Beach has gone through a couple different iterations over the last few years, but we like this current one the best. The menu is now a combination of Indian, Burmese, and Mexican influences, so think tandoori chicken fajitas, crispy rice salad, and curried beef tacos. Call (310) 526-0027 for takeout." - brant cox
"This Mexican-Burmese-Indian cantina in Santa Monica has always had one of our favorite spaces in the neighborhood, and with their brand new front patio a block from the beach, we’ll double-down on that statement. Because at the end of the day, drinking margaritas and eating masala tacos by the ocean is a combination you can’t really pass up." - brett keating
"Santa Monica restaurant Tallula's is closing, ending a six-year run for the Mexican hangout within the Rustic Canyon family of businesses. Tallula's opened with a bang in May 2017, with fans excited for a colorful, cool option away from the bustle of Santa Monica proper — and right by the beach no less. The restaurant found a loyal local following (and was home to the rise of chef Saw Naing, now up at the Dutchess in Ojai), but ownership says the place 'quickly encountered challenges that persisted throughout our six-year-run,' per a newsletter sent out to customers. 'Ultimately it just didn’t work and never found its footing,' the email continues. 'It no longer was sustainable to keep Tallula’s open.'" - Farley Elliott
"After a particularly harrowing day at Santa Monica Beach witnessing tourists trying to get a tan on top of the one they received yesterday, what you probably need is a trip to Tallula’s at the bottom of Entrada Drive near PCH. It’s a perfect place for Happy Hour margaritas, guacamole, and a few tacos. Just know Tallula's isn so casual that you can roll up in your bathing suit (at least throw on a cover-up or something)." - Brant Cox, Kat Hong
"Tallula’s in Santa Monica was always one of Los Angeles’s more dog-friendly spaces (maybe even friendlier than most, with employees consistently coming over to give dog-friends ample treats and love). But with the addition of its new-ish Sunday dog brunch, now a full-time dog menu offered seven days a week, it’s reached a new tier. Dogs can feast on watermelon bites, chicken tacos, and the “wolf’s feast,” a bowl of raw grass-fed hanger steak with steamed vegetables." - Eater Staff
