A Hidden Gem with Chilaquiles Worth a Stop
I can’t recall the last time I had a truly satisfying meal for under ten bucks—until this morning. Eating out wasn’t in my plans; I had packed breakfast and lunch from home like a responsible adult. But as fate (and hunger) would have it, I found myself at AutoZone looking for parts when a restaurant next door caught my eye.
The name suggested Mexican food but with a twist—intriguing. A couple of my co-workers had mentioned it before, saying they liked their lunch there, though it was “too early” for me to put that to the test. This was 9:00 a.m., and breakfast was calling my name.
Outside, they advertised breakfast, so I figured it might be a recent addition to their menu. I walked in and was greeted by a gentleman who was just about to enjoy his own breakfast but looked like he worked there too. A quick glance at the menu board, and before I could even process my options, I heard the magic word: chilaquiles. At that moment, nothing else mattered.
Now, let me tell you something about chilaquiles. They hold a special place in my heart. In fact, the only thing that makes me angrier than someone offending my mother is someone butchering chilaquiles and calling it authentic. It’s serious. So, I figured if this place was going to win me over, it had to be through a dish that I hold sacred.
I ordered them to-go since I was still on the clock. While waiting, I took a moment to look around. The décor is modern, fresh, and inviting—complementing the aromas coming from the kitchen and the friendly energy of the staff. I even checked out the bathrooms (clean, no complaints) and noticed a secondary dining room that seemed to serve another purpose—though I didn’t ask.
Now, here’s my one suggestion: visibility. I’ve never noticed this place before, despite it being here for a while. A more eye-catching sign near Route 66 could work wonders. Social media is great, but curb appeal is king. I make food decisions in a split second based on what I see while driving—so a little more roadside presence might just steer more people your way.
And now, the verdict: the chilaquiles scored an 85%. That means they’re good—very good—but not quite at the “make me emotional” level yet. Still, good enough that I’ll be back to explore more of the menu.
Great job, guys. Keep it up. See you soon.
