The 16 Best Ramen Shops in Houston - Eater Houston

"At Tamashi, the ramen bowls are a work of art that beg diners to eat with their eyes first. A shrimp skewer calls from the bowl of the Tamashi’s Menn ramen, which is made with a shrimp broth, and the Curry Tsukemen — a coconut milk-based broth flavored with nine different herbs and spices — is topped with feathered-out fried crab sticks, char siu, cabbage, and a soft-boiled egg with noodles for dipping on the side. They also have the ramen classics, served with varying levels of spice." - Brittany Britto Garley

Google
Summary: a small but cozy place to have a sushi date at or eat alone Food: the regular ramen was good but I’d actually recommend putting the spice in it and not on the side . Sushi was also good but nothing mind blowing. Price was reasonable for ramen but not for the sushi imo Service: our server was quite attentive and our food came out quickly Atmosphere: definitely tiny compared to most places and bc of the dim lighting, it has an intimate feeling to it. Wouldn’t recommend coming in large groups

Google
I am very impressed with this restaurant, the sushi was very fresh and amazing. I eat a lot of sushi but it has never really hit like this. The rice was fresh and warm, and all the food tasted amazing. It is definitely a small ma and pa restaurant, but the food is clean and it deserves some more attention. Over all I very much enjoyed my experience here.

Google
This place was recommended by a friend and I was truly blown away!! It a small restaurant and the parking is a bit complicated but worth everything. I had the miso ramen and she had the curry ramen, both were amazing! The other menu items looked and sounded great as well so I’ll have to be back to give them a try!

Google
I came in with a hard sushi craving. And yes, it was satisfying. I ordered to go, and the wait was accurate, and the people were efficient. If I had to say anything close to being negative would be the parking. It’s gosh darn tiny. So go at a crazy weird time and it should be fine. I’m sure there is parking somewhere close and decently nearby, but from what I can tell you get 3 spots, good luck. But the sushi was good, the workers were pleasant, and everything tasted good. I’m not a local, but I bet this would be great amongst those who are.

Google
We chose the vegan curry option. It was amazing. We enjoyed every bit. It's a small location but worth the stop.

Google
It was our first time trying ramen. The food was good, but some in our party who are more experienced with ramen said it lacked authentic flavor. I tried the shrimp based ramen and it shrimp was delicious, but tough. The shrimp flavor itself was a bit to overpowering. If you order spicy, it will definitely be very spicy! The location is a bit small and parking is limited. My biggest complaint was we had a party of 5, We are generous tippers and the service was great however, they have a suggested gratuity at the bottom of the checks, As we all made sure our bill was spit properly and we're making sure the suggested tip was enough at 22 percent, the waitress took all our cards and brought the check back for signature with gratuity already added. No where does it state it is automatically added for parties of 5 or more. Also what percentage did she decide was to be added 18, 20, 22, 25? We didn't want to argue or do the math so we paid and left. We would have likely left more had it not been added. I would have given the food another chance but the added gratuity was our deciding factor not to return.

Google
I love going to this sushi place near Rice Village. It's a small restaurant but the food is packed with flavor and tastes really fresh. The specialty rolls are not too expensive and they are very filling. It's a great spot to satisfy my sushi cravings!

Google
Came here specifically for their Curry ramen and it did not disappoint! It was so delicious, I will definitely come back for more! They have sushi as well but didn’t get to try it this time. Fried Squid was also tasty. I want to come back and try the other ramens! Small establishment, very intimate setting, I don’t like how close each table was but the food was worth it.

Yelp
We had the most pleasant meal here! Tamashi Men 5/5: This was SO good! So flavorful with the most tender pork. The shrimp was extremely well seasoned. The broth was light. No notes! Curry (not pictured) 5/5: Wow! I was so pleasantly surprised at how light, yet hold such great curry flavor this broth had. Chicken Karage 3/5 I wish they were cut in smaller pieces. Juicy but not very crunchy or flavorful. Request a side of spice so you can add to the broth to make it spicier!

Yelp
I haven't been back for a while. Always like their ramens. Service is good. The only negative I have , it's the super limited parking spaces. That's why when I plan to go here, I always do it early before the rush hours arrive.

Yelp
Ramen noodle sushi time! Tamashi Ramen has been a regular lunch spot for me. I've gone about once a week since it opened. Its located in a somewhat rundown plaza, sharing a space w a thai massage place, Plenty of parking in the back, limited in the front. You may be accosted by the neighborhood wallet inspector, but the area generally safe and busy. The place is somewhat small, but that just makes it cozy. A good spot for lunch if you are in the med center. Ramen - mucho bien - hits the basics.

Yelp
Came here for date night and my date was blown away. I've been many times, and ramen dates are our thing, and I think Tamashi is his favorite! The space is very small and there is very limited table space. The visit this week is the first time I've gotten there and DIDN'T see a line outside of people patiently waiting. There's an unspoken feeling of hurriedness. You sit, are greeted immediately. Appetizer is out in 10-15 min. Entree in 5-10. Check dropped shortly after. Come. Eat. Leave. None of that loitering business. .... But it's worth it!!! The ramen broth is rich and fresh and hot. The sushi is perfect. It's a staple in my rotation.

Yelp
My husband and I ordered from here via Uber Eats during a short stay in Houston and it's definitely some of the best Ramen I've tasted in Texas. We both ordered the Tamashi's Menn Ramen, which comes with a shrimp skewer and pork, plus a shrimp based broth. The broth was packed with flavor and was definitely unique as I typically order pork or soy based broths for my Ramen. I had mine with fresh garlic and extra bean sprouts and they give you an option to make it spicy or add other extras, including double noodles. I also really appreciated how the staff packed our order by separating the broth from the other components of the soup. This helped to maintain the quality despite ordering for delivery. They also managed to prepare our order quickly and it was delivered within 30 minutes. WOW! I'd definitely order from here again or stop in the next time I'm in Houston!

Yelp
We were a party of 3 coming in on a Wednesday evening, around 7 PM. The restaurant is super small, with probably 5ish tables and a couple chairs for some higher seating options. This is not a restaurant to bring large parties to (parties larger than 5/6+). Just like the seating inside, there isn't much parking right in front of the restaurant either, so be prepared to find alternate spaces nearby. We thankfully and luckily got one as someone was leaving. Service was great! We sat down and we were approached right away. Our server also answered all of our questions we had about the menu! To eat, I had the Tonkatsu Ramen: Non-spicy Ramen with a thick, creamy pork bone-based broth. It was topped with chashu, black fungus, bamboo shoots, green onion, fish cake and a soft-boiled egg. De-lic-ious. Hit the spot, would definitely recommend ordering a side of extra noodles if you can. Couldn't get enough of the wonderful flavors from the broth. Along with my ramen I ordered the "Sexy Mama Roll": a roll, made tempura style, with soft shell crab, shrimp tempura, kani, cream cheese, soy paper, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. BIG mouthfuls, generous portions and wonderful flavoring. Highly recommend this roll. Overall a wonderful experience, again just keep in mind the spacing! But will definitely be coming back for my ramen or sushi cravings!!

Yelp
This is a little spot right off of holcombe in close proximity to the med center and rice village offering a quick nice bowl of ramen that is perfect for this time of year. The food -- I ordered the spicy miso ramen. I overall really enjoyed my bowl. It was a little on the sweeter side which I balanced with spice. The spice wasn't too spicy but can ask for it on the side if you want to add as you go. The spot -- not much to it. Pretty small with some tables for indoor dining. Recommend keeping your party size small. A good spot if you're dining alone as well. Parking spots are available in the front and behind the building. Service - nice but simple: I overhead you can call or order online for pickup to avoid fees. Overall I really enjoyed my bowl here. Will definitely be back when I'm craving ramen on this side of town.

Yelp
Absolutely my favorite ramen spot in Houston. the restaurant is located in an unassuming corner, seating only 21 guests but the food is consistently delicious. Service is always quick but servers are courteous so we never feel rushed. Their sushi are also always fresh but their affordably priced chirashi really steals the show. their brussel sprout, chashudon 2.0 and Curry Tsukemen are also to die for.
google avatar

Yelp
Hole in the wall for sure but the food was incredible. I got ramen and the broth was so good. Also got a spicy tuna roll which was HUGE and had so much tuna. Definitely get there right when they open because the line gets crazy and there aren't many tables.

Yelp
We didn't know what to expect prior to coming here but this is definitely a small but cozy restaurant. There's only 3 parking spots reserved for the restaurant out front and we were lucky enough to snag the last one, but parking could definitely be a problem during more popular hours. There's only about 6-7 tables inside and maybe a few more bar seats but definitely catered towards smaller parties. They have a good selection of ramen, sushi and apps on the menu but not overwhelming so you can comb through the menu pretty quickly. We were impressed that the food started coming out within 5 mins of ordering the food. We loved the curry ramen and the raku roll. We also got the fried shrimp shumai but felt they were small and didn't have much flavour. The service here was wonderful - we came with our young daughter and they immediately came over and brought her a sticker, and gave her a candy on the way out. Despite this restaurant being on the smaller side, they're very efficient - the food comes quickly and they clean off the table once you're done to get it ready for the next guest. My husband was especially excited about the stamps card so it looks like we will be coming back pretty soon.

Yelp
Love love love this place! We tried 5 dishes from here and everything tasted great! Their Brussels sprouts and takoyaki are delicious! Sushi and sashimi were fresh and tasted amazing! I love shrimp and their Tamashi Menn ramen was the perfect choice for me! Can't go wrong with whatever you order here! Service was fast and friendly! I will say they do get busy here and especially during dinner, so there is a waitlist to add your name on. But we just went back to our car and waited for barely any time before we were called. Interior is kind of small, but feels cozy and busy when the house is full! Highly recommend checking them out! There's also several locations in Houston!

Yelp
I want to love this place, and in fact, I've really enjoyed myself here before. However, after my last visit, my friend and I both received mild food poisoning after ordering ramen. I forgot to order my ramen broth extra hot like I usually do. I noticed the ramen broth was lukewarm when I received it. The flavors were still tasty. By the time I left, I started feeling some serious gastronomic distress and had to pull over at a gas station. At our second destination, my friend started feeling gastronomic distress as well, which was relieved after a long trip to the ladies' room. The fact that we both ordered ramen with the tonkotsu broth base says it all. She didn't finish her bowl, so her response was a bit more delayed. I should have paid more attention to the numerous listed health code violations. Ugh.

Yelp
Tamashi is always a solid place for ramen. I like that they have multiple locations around town. We stopped by for a quick dinner. Their parking was very small and filled up. The interior is small and it was pretty crowded. We ended up sitting at the bar tables by the window. My go-to here is the Tamashi's menn ramen. Very flavorful broth. Good portion as always. It also comes with a few shrimp on a skewer. Service was friendly and quick.
google avatar

Shveta A.

Yelp
Tamashi is a perfect example of big things come in small packages. While the size of the restaurant may appear small, don't be fooled! There's a reason why it's always so crowded inside. I always enjoy stopping by, both to dine-in or pick up some to-go, because the quality of the food is excellent. Tamashi is by far one of my favorite ramen spots. The tonkatsu is my favorite, with it's flavorful broth and tender pieces of pork. I also love love love the thick noodles they use. However, it's not only ramen they excel in-the chashudon 2.0 is another go-to dish, with it's rich pork and sauce in rice, all topped with a cooked egg, which really binds the flavors together. As for appetizers, the gyoza and Takoyaki are both very tasty, even the next day, which is a rare thing. Service-wise, the staff are friendly and helpful, making sure you don't feel lost in the bustle of the restaurant, even in rush hour. If you're looking for a ramen spot, would highly recommend!

Yelp
Best ramen in Houston. I look forward to eating here everytime we visit the med center/MDA.

Madelina N.

Yelp
Amazing Japanese food for amazing prices! This restaurant is a little small but service is very fast and food is well worth the trip! Highly recommend the chasudon 2.0 (rice bowl with crispy pork) and the spicy tonkatsu ramen. Would consider this a hidden gem because of how delicious and reasonably priced it is but not the most aesthetic! Also parking behind the strip is available

Yelp
There are only a handful of ramen shops I enjoy in Austin, so whenever I get the chance to try somewhere new, I'm all in. On a rainy day in Houston, I decided to try a new spot--Tamashi. Normally, I'm hesitant about restaurants that don't specialize in a single cuisine (Ramen and Sushi)?? However, considering both come from Japan, it didn't feel too far fetched. I love sushi, so I couldn't resist ordering a roll, but I also couldn't say no to ramen. MY ORDER: I opted for Tamashi's Menn and the Raku Roll, and honestly, I could've cried over how good everything was. For shrimp lovers, the Tamashi's Menn is a shrimp based broth served with a grilled shrimp skewer. The broth was rich and complex, but also a tad salty. The Raku Roll was refreshing and perfectly balanced. I loved the addition of the roasted garlic and sriracha on top since it added a nice spice and crunch to it. I can't believe there isn't a Tamashi in Austin (yet), but when there is, I'll be one of the first in line! Note: Tamashi is a small restaurant where tables are close to each other.
google avatar

Chrissy P.

Yelp
The service was perfect! Everyone was super chill.. the cleaned the table quickly as we finished. They didn't have a crowd or anything so we were able to come in and sit whenever we wanted. The food was okay, nothing to special I wish the ramen taste better/ had more flavor. The three stars are simply because of the food, and like I said it wasn't terrible it could have been more flavorful.
google avatar

Vanson V.

Yelp
Me and my partner loves the sushi and sashimi combo, it's a great deal and the fish taste fresh! The restaurant itself is a bit small and the service is a little slow, but the food is definitely worth giving a shot. The ramen is also good but for the price I would go to other ramen places nearby.
google avatar

Jess F.

Yelp
A small location with great pricing for good food! Usually I order takeout, which I must say is much less good compared to dining in - but I'll acknowledge that it's tough to recreate the ramen experience in a takeout container. Parking is quite difficult if you dine in. Service was quick as there weren't too many tables for waiters to manage. The tonkotsu ramen is my go-to, with a bit of spice added. It satisfies the ramen craving and is a decent amount to fill you up! Flavor is pretty good but really I think the winning quality is value. Overall, a spot you can't go wrong with! I regularly order from here and will continue to do so.
google avatar

Roma B.

Yelp
Hole in the wall spot off holcombe blvd. Got the tamashi menn, loved the shrimp, they were huge and juicy. The broth itself was flavorful too. Added bamboo shoots and mushrooms to my dish too. Definitely recommend this spot! Seating can be a bit hard when it's packed.
google avatar

Marissa G.

Yelp
The ramen is sooo good. I love the broth I don't normally order Tonkotsu, but order the Tonkotsu. Brussels sprouts were also really good and crispy. Service was super fast idk how they made it so quick but I was not complaining. The place is small and parking can be tough but we found a spot on the side street. Walked in and was seated immediately.
google avatar

Dustine D.

Yelp
Very clean, welcoming the moment we walked in. It was our grand daughters bday and they made it extra special for her, even met our request of a noodle bowl for her that she loved.
google avatar

Carrie M.

Yelp
Their service here was incredibly fast, and the restaurant is very small, which I later learned made this restaurant a poor choice for a chat to catch up with a friend. There are only a few tables inside, so there was a short wait on a weekend afternoon. I got the tonkotsu ramen, and it was okay. The noodles had a thin rough texture I wasn't a fan of, and the broth was fine. I wasn't very hungry but finished the bowl as the portion was not large. It was a good price. After we finished eating, they quickly cleared the table and brought our checks. We were asked to leave because there were people waiting, and I felt bad for taking their time, but we only sat for about 30 minutes in total. I do understand that I should've been more cognizant about the line. There is a small parking lot in the back, but it was full, so I found nearby street parking.
google avatar

Rafia A.

Yelp
First time at the Holcombe location. Restaurant is small and parking is a bit tight. Sushi was excellent. Taking off one star due to there being buckets placed all over the floor probably because of a leak. Made the restaurant smell a bit funky, especially with how tight it is inside. Service was quick and attentive.
google avatar

Vik P.

Yelp
It definitely hit the spot. On saying that upon walking getting hit up for money by a drifter wasn't what I expected this far away from downtown. The place is extremely small, but dining alone tonight so didn't think anything of until they tried to seat me at last table...it was very uncomfortable. There was a booth side that was impossible to get to as the table next to me was so close that no one could get to that side so had to settle in chair facing the wall as my whole right side of my body had basically become one with the wall. Couldn't stand being so uncomfortable so within minutes I looked around for a better option and there beside entry door was an available high chair seating that peered out to parking lot. I ordered the Yellowtail Raku roll and the Curry Tsukemen...both items deemed to be spicy, but neither of them were. Though the roll was quite refreshing and they didn't skimp on the fish. The ramen came with an abundance of dipping noodles and toppings (fish cakes/cabbage/kani), pork a bit less that what I expected, but it was ever so tender and tasty. If you live in the area it definitely great for take out. Wouldn't go out of my way to visit though. Service very friendly. Total experience: Slightly over 3.5
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
I ordered my usual when coming here being that famous Curry Ramen, which was really delicious, so contrasting and very flavorful. The broth was greasy, but also very well-seasoned and "curryish" in aroma profile. Not spicy, but unique and savory. Very good. The cabbage and that big crunchy piece in the bowl added some chew and even more to the bowl. They made the ramen more tasty, filling and satisfying as opposed to being too soft. The egg, meat and green onions were all great. The noodles were really good, fresh and kind of buttery in taste. Great, attentive, welcoming service on this visit.
google avatar

Nina K.

Yelp
I have really liked Tamashi in the past but my recent meal there was not good. Maybe they changed chefs since I've last been but this was very disappointing. I got a spicy miso ramen and a sushi roll. The noodles were undercooked and chewy. The pork chashu was dry bland and chewy as well. It was a disappointing bowl of ramen. The sushi roll was good but I'd go other places for sushi. I would not return based on that ramen.

Yelp
We've been wanting to try this place for awhile and went on Saturday night around 6pm. There was quite a wait with a few parties ahead of us (at least 30mins-1hr). They have a waitlist paper that you put your name down for. The wait did take awhile and we opted to sit at the bar area for faster seating. We started off with takoyaki and karaage for appetizers. I really like their takoyaki, there were a good size with a good amount of octopus inside. Flavored well and cooked well! The chicken karaage was crispy and flavorful, although I felt like there wasn't too much meat overall. I love dipping ramen, so I was very excited to try the curry tsukemen. This ramen was SO GOOD!! I've never had a curry ramen before and this was 10/10. The noodles were yummy in the broth but it was a little hard to separate them in the bowl. They give a good amount of meat and other add-ons in the ramen, so I felt like I had enough toppings per noodle ratio. The broth itself was super flavor and delicious and also not too spicy, which was a plus. It was a nice warm heat flavor but nothing too extreme. Overall, I really liked the takoyaki and ramen here!! I can't wait to come back for the other ramen and try some of the sushi too! I probably would just come a little earlier or on a weekday!

Yelp
Small establishment located of of W. Holcombe near the med center. Near where I live so it's perfect for when I need a quick ramen fix. Although it is small they do have a few tables for dinning in. I always order to go however. Service is good. Sometimes the ramen can be a little on the salty side so be aware. Other than that no issues.
google avatar

Danny L.

Yelp
Wasn't a huge fan of the Tonkotsu spicy ramen. I thought the soup was too salty, noodles were a bit hard, and portion was a small (compared to what I'm used to at least. Maybe I just eat too much). The fried squid tentacles on the other hand were amazing! It only comes in a small dish, but I would order it again because it was so good. I could eat that all day. Service was ok. Nothing over the top or below par either, which is fine. We got our food and water with no complaints on our end! Plenty of seating. At first glance, the restaurant looked narrow and small, but there is actually another side with more tables. Lots of One Piece anime decoration everywhere. I never watched One Piece, but I still enjoyed looking at all the interesting characters.

Yelp
Small place with a traditional Japanese feel. Parking can be an issue. Service was good. Hands down the best Ramen I have had in Houston. Tamashi's ramen did not tasty overly salty or leave some weird film in my mouth like some of the other popular ramen spots in town. Theirs tasted more homemade than many that I have tried. Pro Tip: Ask for some of their hot sauce/chili paste it has a great flavor and heat. Tonkotsu, $10.75: Nice portion with a rich bone broth. The flavor was deep and rich. All the ingredients were top notch. Would highly recommend. Tamashi's Menn, $11.75: Broth was also rich in flavor like the Tonkotsu. the shrimp were nicely cooked. Chicken Karaage, $6.50: Chicken thighs battered and fried in a crispy coating. Great appetizer especially for those that are not super adventurous. Can't say enough about the quality of the ingredients and the price of the food here. Would highly recommend and return.

Yelp
A quite little spot that always hits! Tamashi is my favorite place to go when it's rainy and cold out because the vibes are so cozy. I love getting the Tamashi Menn which is shrimp broth based and comes with grilled shrimp. If you don't eat pork, you can get an extra half soft boiled egg in replacement. We all tried the Curry Ramen which comes as dipping noodles. The curry is packed with tons of rich flavor
google avatar

Divina O.

Yelp
Best ramen around this area. Problem is parking and space. But If you go off Hours there is no issues . Their sushi is also good. Clean and quick
google avatar

Ashley I.

Yelp
Food wasn't great and atmosphere wasn't clean or nice. Walls are chipped badly, bathroom light switch and doors were dirty. Ginger is super pink and pork belly was so fatty we couldn't eat it. Edamame was overcooked
google avatar

Sophie T.

Yelp
Usually I go to the Tamashi location in Bellaire, but I wanted to see how this location was. My family and I came around 4-5 pm. so it wasn't busy at all. We ordered quickly, got our drinks quickly, and the food came within minutes. We got the Takoyaki and Brussel Sprouts as appetizers. The Takoyaki was super crispy on the outside and was filled was lots of pieces of octopus. However, even the brussel sprouts tasted good, they could've been cooked more since they were still hard in the center. For my main, I got the Curry Tsukemen, and it was super flavorful. The pork chasu melted in my mouth, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. In addition, the fried kani was crispy, but oily, and I would also like more broth because most of the bowl was filled with cabbage. In my opinion, I think the Bellaire location is better because it is better quality and has more parking spaces too, haha! However, this place isn't bad ramen either, and you'll get your food in lightning speed.

Yelp
Very swift and mindful service and quick service as well. Ramen was delicious - very traditional with flavourful broth! Also enjoyed a roll of sushi as well (unagi/avocado roll - I forget the name) which was also yummy. Very quaint/intimate dining room. Overall very positive experience. Will be back again.

Yelp
Sushi - very fresh and delicious Prices - reasonable Restaurant -clean Service - attentive Will definitely recommend!

Yelp
Right before I came back to Dallas, I stopped by Tamashi for some free ramen. Tamashi provides a free ramen or sushi entree every thanksgiving eve. The nearest location to my school is a really small location so my friend and I arrived 25 minutes before they opened. There were already 2 groups of people already in line by the time we got there. It was really chill outside so the wait was not bad at all. Once inside, they provide a special menu listing all of their items that apply for the free entree deal. I got the tamashi menn which is their shrimp ramen. It also includes chashu and is topped with fried onions and green onions. The shrimp was good but I remember it being more smoky last time. I loved the fried onions, they provide so much flavor and texture to the ramen. The chashu was pretty tender as well. The broth has a deep shrimpy flavor as well. This is a deal you should definitely take advantage of if you have the chance next year

Yelp
Great spot when you need a quick meal, would not go here with large parties as it's small and their wait list builds up pretty quickly but they're good at moving it along promptly. The takoyaki was my favorite so delicious, the ramen was ok in my opinion the broth didn't stand out too much to me. The roll we got I believe was the tiger roll (can't quite remember) was pretty good would come again to try some of their other items. The place itself to me was so cute and tiny reminds me of a very hole in the wall type of vibe.

Yelp
Here I would skip the sushi and focus on ramen. The Tamashi's Menn Ramen is a must, it's a shrimp based broth, not too fatty. The place is small and gets crowded pretty fast, but there is an option for a take out. Staff is very attentive and can adjust your order with no problem.

Yelp
Hidden gem. The curry ramen was delicious. Sushi was reasonably priced and hit the spot.

Yelp
I came in with a hard sushi craving. And yes, it was satisfying. I ordered to go, and the wait was accurate, and the people were efficient. If I had to say anything close to being negative would be the parking. It's gosh darn tiny. So go at a crazy weird time and it should be fine. I'm sure there is parking somewhere close and decently nearby, but from what I can tell you get 3 spots, good luck. But the sushi was good, the workers were pleasant, and everything tasted good. I'm not a local, but I bet this would be great amongst those who are.

Yelp
Came here one late afternoon and am so glad I did! Tried the classic tamashi menn ramen and it's so delicious with the shrimp skewer, crispy onions, and jammy egg to top it all off. Amazing flavor and I like how it's not the classic tonkotsu broth one thinks of for ramen. Rather it is a savory shrimp based broth that still doesn't taste too fishy. Service was prompt and there is more parking in the back! Takoyaki was fried to perfection and karage a classic though I did wish it was paired with a more unique dipping sauce rather than just sweet chili.

Yelp
If you're a salmon lover, this combo set is a dream come true! Every bite was buttery, fresh, and packed with flavor. The portion size was just right, making it a satisfying meal without feeling too heavy.

Yelp
There's parking in the back if you can't get one of the prime spots in front. It's a bit cramped on the inside but it's so worth it to me. We put our name and number of people down on a piece of paper outside. We waited 20-30 mins to get in. After that, our server was attentive and the food was worth it. The yuzu yellowtail was so good. The fish was buttery and fresh and the jalapeño complimented the fish and yuzu very well. Tamashi's menn: I love seafood. This broth is also shrimp based not pork based like usual. I loved the shrimp skewer and bit of chashu. I liked mine. My husband had the spicy miso. He really liked his. This dish had black fungus mushrooms. We debated on whether the ramen is better in houston or nyc. I think nyc had better ramen but this place is definitely up there.

Yelp
My fav Ramen spot in and around the med center! Place is tiny but efficient. They have inside dining. Expect a wait if going during peak dining hours. My go-to ramen is the Tamashi-Menn, yummy shrimpy delicious, ha. But really, all 5 of their ramen choices are good. Great price point for the food quality. My go-to for their rolls is the New Moon Roll. They also have 2 or 3 roll combo's as well, for their "no frills" rolls for a good price. Something for everyone, really. They have a heavy following for takeout/delivery. There are a few parking spots out front and a bigger lot in the back that they share with the other business's in the strip. But it's a lil walk. Try the ramen, tell me what you think!

Yelp
On the surface, it's pretty easy to see the appeal of Tamashi right away: it's popular enough at dinner time to have a line out the door, the tiny space and intimate ambiance almost feels like something from Japan, and it's really one of the only places in the West U area that serves anything remotely similar to the real thing. This is definitely not a place to take groups. While takeout / delivery are popular options, the best way to enjoy their food is to eat in house. The seats are close enough to each other that eavesdropping on other tables is way too easy. I'm not sure how the pandemic was received here, but I trust it wasn't ideal. Speaking of the latter, the parking is tight, awkward, and even a little dangerous along Holcombe. I'm not going to outright say this is super authentic, but I will say it's probably the best bowl in the neighborhood. The tonkotsu is solid, I prefer it over the shoyu and miso, but I think the noodles could have been a little more al dente. The sushi is decent, but that wouldn't be my primary focus. The appetizers such as the brussel sprouts are likely to appease the West U faithful, but I would recommend the chashudon 2.0 for a hearty side. The staff works hard in getting the food out quickly and managing the crowd, all while being bilingual in Mandarin and English (#1). The wait to dine here can be brutal, so I recommend coming for lunch over dinner if possible and avoiding primetime hours if at all possible. Prices aren't backbreaking but like all things in the latter stages of the pandemic, it can be a splurge when one leasts expects it. ___________ (#1) The reality of most Japanese spots in the US.
