25 Top Restaurants in Jersey City - Eater NY

"Normally, you’d have to go to Ironbound to get Brazilian food. Tamborim (“tambourine“) is located right on the mall portion of Newark Avenue, where crowd watching is almost a contact sport. The bean-filled cauldron of feijoada, stuffed with plenty of pig parts, is spot on, while Afro-Brazilian cuisine is well represented with the dende-laced bobo de camarao. Finally, snacking is encouraged with a menu of fritters and baked goods such as pao de queijo, an irresistibly bouncy cheese bread made with yuca flour." - Robert Sietsema

Tamborim Brings Brazilian Cuisine to Jersey City - Eater NY

"Tamborim ('tambourine'), a Brazilian restaurant that opened last December, just a few steps from the PATH station. It was founded by Michael Casalinho, who is Portuguese and grew up in a Brazilian neighborhood in Newark’s Ironbound. Tamborim is a cave of a place, with a Brazilian theme to the décor, including distressed wood walls opposite a long bar with basket-woven stools, and a ceiling that soars to two stories, dwarfing intimate tables set in niches. A wall of sugarcane stalks stands at the end of the room, while the open front of the restaurant spills tables tucked among potted palms onto the sidewalk. Brazilian cuisine not only incorporates indigenous and Portuguese elements, but also African and Middle Eastern ones in a cuisine loaded with seafood and river fish, pork and beef, and tropical fruits and vegetables. Starch staples favor corn, tapioca, and yuca, but little wheat." - Robert Sietsema

What a great restaurant to enjoy some genuine Brazilian cuisine. Had a memorable time here with my family as we ate some delicious food and enjoyed some authentic Brazilian drinks from the bar. I must say, the pictures do not do it justice. The staff was super welcoming and very attentive to everyone. It is definitely worth coming to visit if your passing by, and if you live near, make it your go to foreign experience. Our bill may seem high, but that’s just because we enjoy a few rounds of drinks, and the atmosphere really adds to the experience. Go!

Typical Brazilian restaurante located in Jersey City. What a lovely place! Staff was so kind and gentle with us since we enter the place. We've had several typical food - caipirinha, pastel, picanha, brigadeiro - and everything was delicious. Several of them talk Portuguese, which makes the place even more lovely. We'll come again!

So me and the girls decided to get dinner from this spot and when we arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked up and asked for a table of 4 and we sat towards the back. The place wasn't big but it was cozy. Our server was Camila and she was very nice and attentive. She asked for our drinks and I ordered the lemonade and one of my friends ordered a Brazilian alcohol drink. My lemonade was so sour I couldn't drink it so stuck to water. My friend didn't like her drink either and sent it back and stuck to water. For my entrée I ordered the garlic shrimp. When it came out it looked great but it was too seasoned, a little on the salty side. One of my friends liked the croquettes and the chicken bites. My other friend liked the beef stroganoff. The bill was about $24 for my meal. So while the service was really good, the food and drinks weren't so great to me. I need to give this spot another chance.

Google
Pretty decent Brazilian restaurant, good service and caipirinhas. The shrimp is well cooked and tender. The octopus was served with a pretty creative cauliflower & beet purée, but I wished it would be more tender. Great portions. Picanha was tasty.

Tamborim was a great experience! I came here with my gf for our 2yr anniversary and the ambiance was perfect. We didnt wany anything too fancy but we wanted something intimate. The low lit interior was perfect for this. The food was amazing, I don’t have a lot of knowledge regarding Brazilian food, but was definitely not expecting such a delicious chicken stroganoff that honestly resembles more of a chicken tikka masala in my opinion. The risotto and steak was also stupendous. Would totally recommend for a nice date or if you want a nice meal

Google
Friendly service, great value happy hour sangrias, and delicious bites / mains. Chicken was seasoned, the risotto was creamy, and the sauces were rich / complex. Excellent presentation.

Google
Great Brazilian menu. The espresso martini was very unique and delicious. The portions were quite small for the price and rice is not included with all dishes that would seem appropriate.

Edit as of June 7 2022, I don’t know what happen but the food has taken a dip and prices have sky rocketed. I’m not sure if the pandemic has placed a strain on the place or if the chef has been replaced. I hope they take a look at this review and address these issues so I can delete this. I went back and was utterly disappointed. What an incredible experience! The food was amazing, the atmosphere unbelievable, and did I say the food was incredible! Tamborim please give your chef a raise! The place was reasonably priced especially for a place in the middle of grove street where overpriced is the title of every restaurant there. It really makes you feel like you are in the heart of Brazil with wonderful helpful staff and ambience. What an experience! I’ve tried the other places around here and nothing compares. Some places try to give you New York pricing with mediocre service but Tamborim gives you exceptional food with quality service but with the price that will surprise you at the end of the night! The drinks were also great with their own Brazilian takes on classic drinks! A recommendation would be for them to an alcoholic add Açaí that would be cool! The food was the star of the night! That chef really out did themselves!

Yelp
I would say Tamborim is a solid 3.8. The ambiance is pretty relaxed we walked in with no reservations and we're seated pretty quickly. The cocktails are good I ordered the matcha and the samba. I much preferred the matcha . My bf ordered beer which he also enjoyed. For appetizer we ordered the cheese bread and the steak tartare. Both were okay. The cheese bread was very cheese-y so if you love a lot cheese you'll definitely enjoy that. For mains my bf ordered shepherds pie and I ordered the top sirloin. It was enjoyable.

Yelp
While in the Grove Street area and looking for a restaurant to have a celebratory meal at, we walked by Tamborim and saw oxtail on the menu. -We ordered pao de queijo with sausage - it was pretty good but I probably enjoy pao de queijo better on its own without the sausage -My son asked for chips but we didn't see any on the menu, the kitchen prepared some plantain chips which was very nice -The short rib sliders were amazing, probably the best thing on the menu -We also ordered the happy hour Caipirinha flight, all 3 flavors were very good -The picanha steak was pretty good, especially with the vinaigrette -Now for the whole reason we chose to come in, the oxtail - the server arrived at our table with a rice dish with no apparent meat, I started to tell them that I thought they were at the wrong table. They said it was the oxtail dish, so I asked, "where is the oxtail?". Now, oxtail is not cheap as we all know, you often pay a high price and are lucky to get 4 pieces, so imagine my surprise in paying $32 and getting zero oxtails, there were just some little shreds of meat mixed in with the rice. The disappointment on my face couldn't be missed. The meal had been pretty good up to that point, but this dish ruined it. Shame on them for calling that rabo. We planned on ordering dessert there until the rabo incident, but decided to pass.

Yelp
My boyfriend and originally planned to go to Orale but since it was closed me decided to to try happy hour here. They have a great happy hour. Unfortunately they didn't have the cocktail of the week so we got a spicy caipirinha and a passion fruit caipirinha - $8 each. We also got the bbq chicken lollipops and the octopus salad, also $8 each. The cocktails were tasty. The chicken lollipops was one giant piece of chicken on a bone. It was good but I would've preferred smaller chicken lollipops. The octopus salad was SO good. This is on the smaller side but very cute. We looked at the full menu and it's a little pricey but the happy hour deals are a steal.

Yelp
After walking by Tamborim numerous times to/from the PATH station, and saying each time we should try it out, we finally decided to have dinner here while my in-laws were in town. We had a 6:00pm Monday reservation, and were seated right away. Since it was Happy Hour (3-7pm), we opted to split a few bar bites like the pork belly, short rib sliders, and octopus salad between the four of us. The pork belly was quite good and I would highly recommend it. The slider was just OK and the octopus salad was good as well. X and I split the Picanha with rice, black beans, and farofa. It was cooked perfectly, and a very good portion size. The in-laws split a pork and bean stew and that was fantastic. It was so flavorful and hearty. Since we had a cake at home for X's birthday, we opted to skip dessert. Drinks were fantastic as well. I had the cocktail of the week and it was so refreshing. I love that they have weekly cocktails! Service was attentive and our food came out in a timely manner. I would recommend sitting closer to the back of the restaurant, because the AC doesn't really hit in the front, since they keep the doors open.

Yelp
Came here for lunch. The food was pretty good. Service was not that good. Our server was somewhere every time we were looking for them.

Yelp
A new restaurant on grove street with a nice ambiance and live music which was great. The drinks were good too. The only issue I had was the service wasn't too too good. The bartenders were overly eager and I felt rushed and the wrapped straws weren't presentable in the way I think they were hoping for. I'd give them another chance and actually try the food too. It is tight inside to dine inside however.

Yelp
Do not sleep on this bar in the day time! The tapas chef is acutely aware of the assignment and knows wtf they are doing! I hadn't had decent pork belly anything in a minute and this pork belly and yuca dish was the absolute hit the spot and knock it out of the park I could've had in my pork belly dry spell. Definitely my last meal if I were ever on death row.

Yelp
Cocktail(s): great Happy hour prices: great Vibes: great Happy hour food... eh Buy 2 (@ $8 each), get one free Great deal Got the fried okra, pork belly, and was recommended the fried tapioca. Wish I had the server recommend everything cause the tapioca was 10/10 -- unique, good flavors. The okra was way too burnt for my liking, but the sauce was good. The pork belly was goodish. The last piece (that I took note of) was a bit dry, and the fatty pork was a little much at the end but overall the dish was good. Drink was strong (10/10)

Yelp
Saw a bunch of not so nice reviews here , however I decided to give it a try and take my own conclusions . Looked at the menu on yelp and there's a bunch of nice appetizers and traditional foods from Brazil , so I went in and here's how it went .. The staff is not really that welcoming , no smiles , no hello . The food : wanted to order a bunch of those appetizers to go and come to find out they barely had 3 of the items posted on that large menu . When I just ordered one item because they didn't have any of the others I wanted ( 4-5 different others ) the server has the nerve to ask me is that all ??! Well yea because that's all you have ‍. Certainly need to work on the menu because being a Brazilian myself what little items they do have are not really that impressive , at least advertise the correct menu. And please upgrade your staff a little bit as well , I work with the public and this was just a horrible experience. DEFINITELY NOT GOING BACK!!

Yelp
Before you see the three stars and I scare you away, it's not a bad place to eat per say. The food is pretty decent, a little on the oily side for me, but some components are undeniably delicious. The service was not so great; slow even though the restaurant was pretty much empty. This is always an annoyance when you're dropping a heavy price for the food you are serving. If my dish is going to be upwards of $50, I expect service to match. One of our orders was wrong, and another one was so late everyone else had finished eating before one of the plates arrived. The ambiance was pretty dead for such a cute place. It is definitely meant to be a loud and social spot, so I was disappointing. I think the restaurant has a lot of potential, and maybe I caught it on a bad day. I would encourage other yelpers to go and see for yourselves. Judging on how beloved the spot was for my friends, I think we had an odd, subpar dinner by mistake.

Yelp
Brazilian bar at its finest... drink up! Came in for some nicely handcrafted cocktails that left my tastebuds wanting more. The mixologist bartender had some creativity up his sleeves. Cachaca (hopefully I spelt it correctly) is the liquor that is ALL Brazilian. These drinks were Cachaca based... one sweet (coffee based), one subtle (matcha based), one spicy with a powerful punch! The bar has an open outdoor concept with sidewalk seating to check out the busy foot traffic. The dining area is more intimate. They also have a private room in the back. Staff are super nice and attentive. I will definitely come back for more tasty drinks and to try the food as the menu had some unique options.

Yelp
We decided to try this place for a quick Happy Hour on Monday. We were pleasantly surprised with well priced drinks - $8 for a Capirhina - and $8 tapas. We ordered Brazilian Tapioca bites, Pork Belly with Yuca fries and Cheese Empanadas. Drinks were superb and full of fresh citrus flavors. We had the classic and mango. The Tapioca bites were unique, crispy and very tasty - loved the sweet, tangy accompanying fruit sauce. The Cheese Empanadas were deep fried with light and crispy shell and gooey cheesy inside. Again the briny tomato sauce and aiolis were a nice compliment. The pork belly, although nice and crispy on the top, was a bit too chewy for our liking however, the yuca fries were crisp and flavorful. The bartender was very attentive - we had our drinks and meal at the bar. I will certainly return for Happy Hour but maybe not order so many deep fried appetizers.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour for the first time. I think this is one of the best happy hours in jersey city. 3-6 and $7 caipirinhas plus other drinks and tapas are buy 2 get one free and they are around $8 each. Drinks are strong and food super delicious. Also drinks have all different flavors like mango and guava. The Brazilian sausage was so juicy and delicious and crispy on the outside. The empenadas were bigger than I expected and the fried okra is a nice French fry substitute, makes me feel healthier. The place is gorgeous inside too and makes you feel like your not in jersey city. Wasn't too busy on a Wednesday night. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great restaurant with a small but nice outdoor seating. Excellent for people watching. The menu is small and changes often even though there are a couple of items like the fritters and black bean soup that seem to be a constant on the menu. We've had the corn fritters, beef empanadas, and kibbeh from the fritter section of the menu which were all delicious. The black bean soup is also very good which I believe they have as an app and as an entree. Another favorite is the Picanha Grelhada: Grilled Romp Cap. It's so good and comes with rice, black beans, fried plantains and collard greens. Definitely filling or you can split it with someone which is what my husband and I did.

Yelp
With a comedy show in tow, my friend and I opted to sit at the bar for a fast, uncomplicated meal. In short, drinks were cute but just ok and the food was just ok. The service was fast and friendly and the prices were decent. Location was super convenient in JC. Prob a great place to catch a game at the bar and drink ethnic beer and the bar tender's favorite drink to make. Ordered the garlic shrimp - 5 stars The short ribs - 3 stars not much flavor ...the dumplings were a nice touch and tasty... The beet salad - 2 stars ...fresh ingredients but weird combination of strawberries, beets, avocado, cherry tomatoes with Italian dressing???

Yelp
Wanted to love this place but it fell pretty flat for me. I have high standards for Brazilian food given I lived in São Paulo. Pros Friendly service and ambiance Greenery is nice Like the indoor outdoor vibes Mandioca Frita was really good Chicken stroganoff was just how I remembered, a bit sweet with chips balancing with salt Mango Caipirinha was pretty good Cons Maracuja caipirinha was very disappointing- seemed boxed juice Gambas were just ok (overcooked shrimp and very heavy risotto/missing balance) Pao de queijo was an atrocity- $12 for 4 and they were heavy, floury, undercooked (brazibites frozen from the grocery store are much better!)
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! A Brazilian restaurant without the never ending beef! All the favorite dishes of a great country's cuisine. Good service and nice ambiance . Located on the new Newark Avenue pedestrian mall.
google avatar

Alden K.

Yelp
I had the chicken stew. It was flavorful. The portion was nice. It came with the right amount of chicken, just enough to make me full. The okra was not soggy, it was very nice textured. My wife had the picanha, which is a special Brazilian sirloin with a fat end. Its a great value. A great amount of protein. Enough to share a little with the table. I'm used to Brazilian steaks having a little more salt, but it was still very good. I would order the chicken stew again. I will probably come back with family. Edit: forgot to add, the waiter was great!
google avatar

Torianne P.

Yelp
The food here is freaking delicious. Cocktails are just okay. They look nice but aren't very strong and flavors are just meh. Blueberry lemonade mocktail was better than any of the cocktails I tried. But the food is so flavorful I'm a repeat customer 3x now. Favorites are heart of palm empanadas (AMAZING!), garlic shrimp, octopus, steak and the crispy chicken bites. I think they change the menu a lot because the mussels and the tomato salad I had before are no longer offered but they were incredible too! Seriously everything is a flavor explosion. The atmosphere is fun and I really love the decor and the music but the waitstaff is not great unless you sit at the bar. Table service is beyond slow and they all seem confused as to who is doing what. My advice is sit at the bar, have beer or wine and skip the cocktails and order all the appetizers.
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and energy. The garlic shrimp appetizer was excellent. Tropical shrimp no longer on the menu so ordered the shrimp special. The sauce was this thick yellow paste terrible so took it back and got the salmon instead. Salmon delicious but it fought against a thick cauliflower flower sauce. The sauces should compliment a dish not fight with it. Red Snapper was tasty. Drinks ok but very light poor.Staff very friendly and eager to please.
google avatar

Steven G.

Yelp
Went for only drinks tonight. Vibe was great. Music was on the loud side but with the front doors open, it didn't matter. Bartenders were just ok; took awhile to get a drink ordered but once I did order, they were attentive. All in all, a good visit for what we wanted. Sat at the bar which is what we like to do.
google avatar

Yelp
Location, atmosphere, service , food, and drinks were overall great and 5star quality. Well decorated, very clean and inviting as well as good music. The food was amazing, none of us were able to finish our plates. Drinks were very unique and yummy as well as the desserts. I had to take pictures of it all just to post. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Yelp
I've had my eye on this new Brazilian spot since last summer, and finally I dragged some friends here. First off, the venue itself is stunning. Its decorated so beautifully and the bar looks like fun. Alot of Brazilian decor and local stuff around. The staff and service was phenomenal. Everything is priced a bit steep, but the portions were huge. To start off I had the yuca soup. I wouldn't get this again. First off, it needs more ingredients than just yuca. It was salty and very heavy. It was more of a porridge versus a soup. I had to take it home and use it to make more dishes. The corn croquettes were so damn good. A hint go sweet corn and fried perfectly. Loved the sauces that came with it too.. The Brazilian cheese bread Is something that should be ordered everytime you're here, and don't bother sharing. It's so damn good! I always end my meal in true fat ass fashion, with dessert. The truffles were good but too dense for me. The coconut one was my favorite. The Brazilian coffee cake was made well, but too butter for me. I wanted a sweeter component to it. It reminded me of dulled down tiramisu. Ps the fried yuca fries were delish.

Yelp
Had a great date night/celebratory dinner here. We are excited for Tamborim adding more diversity to the restaurant options in downtown Jersey City, which lately have been trending too much only in the pizza and tacos direction. There's a nice blending of inside and outside space here, friendly service, and some Brazilian touches to the decor, done tastefully and not in a cheesy way. We were hangry upon arrival so we ordered the pao de queijo, served four to an order, tasty, warm, and with dulce de leche on the side. We also ordered the pastel de queijo e presunto, a ham and cheese dumpling with three sauces - olive tapenade, avocado, and salsa rosado. Very yummy and plated nicely. Main courses followed and they were delicious, also plated nicely with flower garnishes. I had the moqueca de peixe, a flavorful monkfish stew served with rice. Husband ordered the feijoada, a large portion of the Brazilian national dish, with the black bean and pork stew accompanied by rice, orange slices, greens, and farofa. My sample was incredibly tasty, one of the best versions of I've ever had. And we had leftovers to bring home. Drinks were also very good. The caipirinha classic style was good, but the house special caipirinha, the Maria Bonita, was a fantastic drink, layered with port wine. Strong, unique, and beautiful to look at. Give Tamborim a try, they deserve to thrive!

Yelp
Great happy hour bar bites and cocktails. A hidden gem in plain site in the busy Grove Street area.

Yelp
Very small place. I sat at the bar. Review is for drinks only. Drinks were good and strong. The bartender was very nice.

Yelp
No just no. The steak was salty and the fries were stale and had to throw them out. there are way more authentic Brazilian steak places in the city to enjoy.

Yelp
This is a fantastic addition to Jersey City! I've been following along on IG waiting for the opening and finally has the chance to check it out last night. Well worth the visit! They're currently not taking reservations, but don't let that deter you. We walked in with a party of 2 around 7:00 on a Saturday and only waited about 5 minutes. They will take your information at the door if you want to check in and get a call when your table is ready. Our server was excellent in helping us navigate the menu. She gave out several recommendations which we went with. We started with the Costa A Costa from the cocktail menu. This is a bold statement, but could be my favorite drink in Jersey City. I highly recommend if you're a mezcal fan. For food we tried a bit of everything - the chicken croquettes, Amazonia salad and shrimp and pineapple. Presentation is everything! You will not be disappointed! It also tastes as good as it looks. I wouldn't hesitate to order the exact same selection again. We had plenty of food for the two of us! As far as COVID protocol, they're doing an excellent job. The tables are socially distance and temperatures and contact information are taken at the door. You'll also find hand sanitizer on your table. Staff wear masks at all times and you'll be asked to wear a mask if you need to leave your table for any reason. I'm excited to see this place post COVID when bar seating is available again. The bar space is gorgeous and with the cocktails we had last night, it could be our new go to! Or if you're looking for a good date spot, the ambiance here will not disappoint.

Yelp
I visited Tamborim about a year ago and it was great! The place is cute and cozy with its staple Brazilian dishes. So I went ahead and booked my sisters birthday dinner here last weekend and was disappointed. Our waitress didn't speak English very well and also wasn't familiar with the menu which wasn't very helpful. We wanted to order drinks but she also wasn't familiar with the bar menu and brought the bartender over who basically cracked jokes about our drink requests-odd. So we ordered Sangria but they didn't have the flavor that was on the menu, so I ordered the spicy Strawberry-Kiwi but they didn't have kiwi so I ordered a ginger ale only to have her come back and say they didn't have any!!!! Insane, half the menu is missing. Once we ordered we had to repeat our order more than once because again, she didn't speak English very well. Eventually, the food finally came because it did take longer than usual. I ordered octopus which was only one leg and the rest a bowl of rice with enormously large onions in it-another bummer. Plus, the waitress did not visit the table once which is unfortunate because we all could have used another round of drinks. My sister was wearing a sash that said Happy Birthday and after dinner was over, the waitress brought us the check without a Happy Birthday song. It wasn't until her boss or manager came over and reminded her that we were meant to have a birthday dessert. She was completely distracted and unfortunately, I wont be recommending anyone here.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night for dinner after seeing them on TikTok! It was weird bc the guy first said the wait would be 1-2 hours. then I went back in at 45 mins just to check our spot on the list and he was ready to seat us. happy to get seated sooner but just wish they'd be more accurate in telling people waiting times. Food: Frango A Passarinho- fried chicken bits, simple as it is but what makes it better is the 3 sauces they give with it. Camarao Au Alho- delicious garlic shrimp. small portion though. Fraldinha Grelhada- grilled flank steak. the current menu we had said this entree comes with a pumpkin mash...but I asked to substitute for fries. I saw on Yelp photos that it comes with french fries...but they gave me yuca fries! these were so thick and hard, didnt like them at all but the steak was good. Drinks: Bom Motivo "Good Reason"- really good! perfect mix of alcohol, citrus, and ginger. Brazilian Margarita- I liked this so much that I ordered it twice in a row! such a sweet margarita, keep in mind that they put sugar on the rim instead of salt. Pica Pau- they call this the Brazilian green tea shot...which it taste nothing like it but its still good, tastes kind of like a margarita shot. we ordered a couple rounds of this and at the end of the night our waitress gave us a round on the house! I like that their menu isn't crazy overwhelming. its pretty simple and just enough options. The decor is cute, very appropriate for Brazilian vibes. Our waitress was super sweet. My husband didnt like his first drink (something with smoked rosemary) so I asked for a classic caipirinha and she was so nice about replacing the drink. Recommend? Yes, esp if you don't have reservations somewhere else and this is shorter wait times compared to all the other spots on Grove st Return? I kind of want to try other entrees and def love their drinks and short wait time.

Vili C.

Yelp
Went in for a feijoada. When I was served the food, the rice was sticky probably reheated, and it was extremely small portion. The waitress forgot about me when a party of 5 people arrived, there was no plate for me to eat in it, just a B&B small plate, and every time I got the waitress attention I was answered with an index finger saying just a minute which took several. Zero stars for service, minus 10 for the leftover spoon of re-heated rice that they served me and not forgetting that they are over priced. Better off going to Newark if you want to experience real Brazilian food. I should have taken photos. Not a real Brazilian restaurant. Just a wanna be cheap copy.

Yelp
Lovely Brazilian spot for a Tuesday night date! Live Bossa Nova music and dining al fresco right by Journal Square. We ordered the stroganoff and the beef Milanese. Both were under $30 and Caipirinhas (approx. $12 each) which were strong but not overpowering. I'd say this spot is true to form: relaxed, friendly, and simple.

Yelp

Yelp
I rave about this place to everyone. The ambiance is cute, intimate and trendy. The use of corrugated metal is so tasteful and places you exactly where you need to be mentally. Every time I'm here I order their red snapper and it's cooked to perfection. Nothing less than delicious. All of their cocktails are amazing and filled with unique flavors. They do have a full bar so if you have something that's your signature and prefer instead, feel free to order away.

Yelp
It was not great experience as Asian. It was my first time and last time there. 1, Four of us was dining and two of our non-Asian friends got very fancy cocktails and nice cups but my husband and I got the ordinary glass of tap water. We ordered mango something cocktail without mango or mango taste in, and we paid $35+for our cocktail. 2, I ordered my steak medium rare and I received a medium well done. I complained and they cook again and it was not much improvement. We also ordered pork and it was not great. In total we paid$110+

Yelp
They don't take reservations at the moment, but waiting a half hour on a Saturday night for a table was well worth it. The food and drinks here were really good! Like really really good. I would recommend everything that we ordered: the tropical shrimp, fried pork belly, short rib stew and a Rainha Jundiai to drink. I'd say the Rainha Jundiai was refreshing and the cashew sangria was sweet - both great cocktails. Service was friendly. We were also treated to some rum/watermelon/ginger shots! That Brazilian rum is pretty strong haha. Wish I had saved room for dessert but maybe next time. I'm excited to come back to try other dishes on the menu.

Yelp
Overall a poor service - the waiter does not want to take an order and orders she will be back in 5 mins - discrimination! she was standing all this time talking to other waiters! The bar has the tendenc to over charge - check the bill as one time drinks are in happy hour and other times they are not - all depends on the waiter! Lost my respect and business, i expressed this to manager and he did not seem to care!

Yelp
If you're looking for an authentic Brazilian experience in Jersey City, Tamborim is the place to go. The cocktails are delicious, the food is amazing and the service is top-notch. Plus, their playlist provides a great atmosphere for a night out with friends. Highly recommend!

Yelp
What an awesome place - one of my favorite meals in Jersey City, and one of the top 10 of all time! The menu at Tamborim seems to still be a work in progress, but I loved what I saw so far. The food options are very authentic, and the very pleasant staff was able to answer our questions about the different dishes. We started off with Caipirinhas to drink. I opted for the blackberry at the recommendation of our server, and my fiancé ordered the original. They were amazing, especially the blackberry. They didn't taste overly sweet, but also weren't overpowering, either. For food, we started with an order of the Brazilian Mix, which was absolutely delicious! The pork belly was some of the most tender meat I've ever had, and the yuca was cooked wonderfully. Next we split an order of the Bobo de Camarao (Brazilian Shrimp Chowder) and the Picanha. The flavor of the chowder was unmatched; I couldn't get enough of it! The Picanha dish was huge and well worth the $36 price tag. The meat itself was tender and flavorful, and all of the sides - rice, beans, collard greens, and plantains - were delicious. I cannot wait to come back and try more of the amazing food and drink options here!

Yelp
First thing's first: owners Michael and Michel did an amazing job transforming the former Atlas space into a tropical Brazilian oasis. More importantly, the food and drinks are amazing. It's a welcome addition to Jersey City and brings something new and different that the neighborhood was lacking. I had the Rainha Jundiai to drink--it's now a contender for my favorite drink in Jersey City (or maybe ever). Then, we started with the chicken croquetas. We expected more than 4 for $14, but they were truly excellent. They were perfectly crispy and not greasy, but the filling was soft and decadent. For mains, we got the Chicken Strogonoff and the Grilled Flank Steak and a side of black beans. The chicken strogonoff was so delicious, unlike any dish I've had around here. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce had so many layers of flavor. It was served with rice, too, and honestly, was a pretty big portion so I had to box my leftovers for the next day. The steak was so juicy, perfectly cooked medium and the fries were well-salted and not greasy. The side of beans was a miss, though--at $7 for basically two tablespoons of beans, was not worth it. I will definitely be back many times, but be weary, if you're looking for an affordable meal out, a dinner for two will definitely cost you well upwards of $100.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday evening. Pros: outdoor seating, friendly staff Cons: half the menu was not available; some of the entrees seen on yelp are not available for ordering. The fish stew was a bit salty

Yelp
Went here for dinner last night and was pretty disappointed. My partner and I ate here before and we found it overpriced, but still satisfying. Last night, however, we were left wanting more. My octopus was very overcooked and chewy. My partner ordered the oxtail- but his portion had barely any meat in it. We found the food overpriced for the portion size and quality. My partner found his entre so small that he went and had dinner elsewhere immediately after. When the waiter asked how we liked our food, we told him we were not satisfied and he just brushed it off. Unfortunately, we won't be going back here.

Yelp
My friend and I were enjoying a Jersey City restaurant outing. We had started at a local pizzeria and we were looking for something for fresh and bright for a second round. Tamborim really fit the bill. They had open air dining at the front of the restaurant. It's overlooking a nice street which is in the process of becoming a pedestrian plaza. We selected a couple of appetizers. The fried chicken bites were juicy and flavorful and featured a trio of dipping sauces. The feiojado croquetas were crispy on the outside with a nicely seasoned ground beef interior, they came with a fresh salsa. We enjoyed the dishes at Tamborim and would certainly return for more. Their menu has changed somewhat from the one posted on their website. Be ready to make different choices, doesn't seem like you can go wrong.

Yelp
Everything was so delicious, plated with flair and the service was on point. Isabella and Mauricio were great - very attentive. Keep doing what you're doing. It works!

Yelp
Ain't no way. Ain't no way. The saving grace is truly the drinks and shrimp and garlic. The food really is nasty. And trust me it takes A LOT for me to say that, but it's true. Most of the food has an odd, underlying taste. I am unsure whether it was intentionally prepared this way or what, but our main dishes really were not tasteful. For appetizer we had shrimp and garlic, which was good. I would HOPE you can't mess that up... and they didn't ( ah man, I was still so excited atp). Then for entrees we had fish stew and the prawns. I am honestly not even going to try and describe the taste. It was just simply not for us. I typically would have asked for another meal, but because I tasted BOTH our dishes and BOTH had similar tastes my faith was shot. I was immensely disappointed. I would not recommend.

Yelp

Yelp
I had a great night out with my friend here. We sat outside, they had a guitar player, and the overall ambiance is wonderful. I'd recommend this place for cocktails and quick bites (loved the cheese bread and empanadas), but not necessarily for a full meal. I ordered the Pineapple Shrimp, which was okay but nothing special. The service here is outstanding! I would cone back for the mango cahprinia and empanadas!

Yelp
The atmosphere, drinks and food were on point! Our food came out quickly as well. Such a unique vibe, and not only did the food taste amazing, it was Instagram worthy as well. All in all, highly recommend.
