if you enjoyed the Dole Pineapple ice cream while in Magic Kingdom, then you need to have one of the Dole Pineapple Whips at Animal Kingdom.
First off, the two are NOT the same. Magic Kingdom is more of an frozen custard (see my review on Erma's or The World's best to find out the difference between frozen custard and ice cream) with real pineapple chunks and bits. It's very good and I would highly recommend it.
Here at Animal Kingdom, the Dole Pineapple whip is more of a sorbet. There are no chunks, and the flavour is blended in. You have the option to add a shot of dark rum or coconut rum for $3. With or without, it's very refreshing, especially on hot days. If you do partake with the alcohol, I recommend the coconut rum. 5 stars!
We also had one of their Double-Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwiches. Ice cream abreast two large homemade chocolate chip cookies. While the ice cream was not gourmet, it easily held its own. 5 stars!
It's been a while since I was last at Disney, and I must say that they certainly have kept their integrity over the years. While costs are relatively high in general, they've managed to keep them in check. I recall paying roughly the same amount of money a few years back. When you consider their superior service and quality ingredients in the offerings, it becomes much easier to accept the premium you pay while on the resort. 5 stars overall.
On a side note, I still have yet to try their Malva Cake Sundae, but if I do return, you can be sure I'll be ordering one. Malva Pudding Cake is a South African dessert. It has a caramelized exterior and its interior is either injected with warm butter, giving it a rich taste and spongy texture. The exterior is bathed with a cream sauce and the cake is usually topped off with frozen custard or ice cream. A dessert so decadent, it is sure to quell any and all self indulgences... I've heard that it's often made with fruit jam of some sort to add an extra element of flavour and acidity, and I'm smacking my lips just writing about it. I look forward to my first taste!
I almost forgot, Congratulations Tamu Tamu Refreshments on being my 16th establishment in achieving a 5 star rating! Cheers.
