We had a birthday reservation last Saturday and the entire experience was exceptional. I am still talking about it and can't wait to visit again! The food was deliciously out of this world. I would give it a ten-star rating! Simply wow. The service was amazing, the staff very friendly, and the atmosphere dazzling. We felt like we were in a Tulum resort.

Today we were in Tan and I have to say that everything was wonderful, the food was great and the service was more than incredible. Juan served us, super recommended, if you goes ask for him and you will have the best attention. The rest of the team is super friendly. It was our anniversary today and they gave us a surprise dessert. Perfect.... We'll be back very soon❤️

Delicious food and fine dining setting! Good place for dinner parties or a nice night out. Recommend getting their cocktails and ceviche! The quesabirria Enchiladas were so flavorful! definitely made correctly!

Gorgeous interior and fantastic service! We loved and highly recommend the queso birria, ceviche amarillo, and the kale salad. We then asked for a recommendation on a main entree and were told the jumbo shrimp was really popular, but it ended up being the dish I liked the least… found it a bit chewy and though the corn was tasty, the shrimp themselves were just meh. Would love to come back to try some more shareables and different entrees!

the food was super delicious but the quantity was very small. the food also came out very fast and the restaurant was small but stunning. i left hungry very despite ordering 5 dishes and the portions were small. i wish they were bigger, and i had to wait a bit before getting my reserved seat.

This place was amazing! The ambiance and decor is breathtaking! The food is not only reasonably priced but delicious too!! It’s honestly worth every penny! And what really tops it off is the service. All the staff are so lovely and sweet, you feel really welcome and comfortable. I have to give it to our server, Camila, she was amazing! Her service is impeccable ! She was so warm and kind. It was my birthday and she made the day even more memorable and I can’t thank her enough! She needs a bonus or a raise or something!!! 💗

The decor in this place is BEAUTIFUL! The food was delicious. The service was a little iffy, as there seemed to be a mix up with our reservation, and the waiter didn't come by very often. Nevertheless, I'd still recommend this place. It's really beautiful inside. And after you eat make a point to have drinks down in the speakeasy.

Just had an incredible dining experience at Tan in New York that I had to share! This place delivers authentic flavors with a modern twist that kept our table buzzing with excitement. Drinks Their bar program deserves special mention - we enjoyed several of their signature cocktails. The Margarita Jungle was refreshing with unexpected tropical notes, while the Traditional Margarita perfectly balanced tartness and sweetness. The Margarita Mercado offered a delightful market-fresh twist, and the Sunset at Tan was as beautiful as it was delicious. We also had the Titos Moscow Mule which was expertly crafted with the perfect ginger kick. Food The menu offered an impressive array of options. We started with the Guacamole and Salsa which was fresh and flavorful, followed by the Ceviche Trio that showcased different preparations - each bite was a burst of citrusy goodness. For mains, the Ribeye Chicharron was a showstopper - tender meat with a perfectly crispy exterior. The Adobo Salmon was cooked to perfection with a spice blend that complemented rather than overwhelmed the fish. The Yucatan Chicken delivered authentic regional flavors, while the Shrimp and Crab Enchiladas were generously filled with seafood. Even the Veggie Enchiladas impressed our table with their thoughtful preparation and robust flavor. The Brussels Sprouts side dish was a surprising highlight - crispy and flavorful enough to convert any sprout skeptic. We concluded with the Mil Hojas de Crepes for dessert, which was a delicate and not-too-sweet ending to our meal. Hidden Gem One of the most exciting parts of our visit was stepping into the hidden speakeasies they have on site. These secretive spaces add an element of adventure to the dining experience, with their own unique atmosphere and specialized drink menus. It feels like discovering a secret that elevates the whole evening - definitely ask about these hidden spots when you visit! Service Our server Juan was amazing - knowledgeable about the menu and great at giving recommendations that perfectly matched our tastes. His suggestions led us to try dishes we might have overlooked, and every recommendation was spot-on. The atmosphere matched the quality of the food - vibrant yet comfortable, with attentive service that enhanced our overall experience. Tan has definitely earned a spot on my regular rotation of NYC dining destinations!

Had a really great meal at Tan with some friends. We pretty much ordered everything off the menu, and I had no complaints. The ceviche and bone marrow were delicious, as well as the short rib. Drinks were good too. The interior is beautiful but if I had to critique anything, it's the lack of space. The tables were pretty much on top of each other, and the bathroom only has 2 stalls and was not maintained. Still worth the trip!

a great latin american restaurant located fairly near grand central -- upscale and a little classier than expected but still a pleasant experience. a friend and i came without a reservation and were warned of a limited seating time to accommodate a later party, but it didn't impose on our dinner at all. we were seated immediately after checking our coats in, and the staff routinely checked in with us to make sure we were served and satisfied. for food, we got the ceviche tulum campechano and bone marrow to share. the ceviche was more sour than i expected (heavy on the citrus) but still enjoyable overall; the bone marrow was super delectable and rich if not a bit hard to eat. for entrees, i chose the shrimp and crab enchiladas -- delightfully savory and a good flavor profile. dessert-wise, we split the yellow corn cake (delicious but a lot smaller than we expected especially for the large plate it came on). a good satisfying meal for sure, if a bit pricey for the amount of food you get.

Staffs were friendly. The seven of us dined in to celebrate for a bridal shower. The guac, bone marrow, short ribs were all delicious. 20% gratitude was automatically applied. The place was beautiful and friends took picture by the stairs. Food: 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambience: 5/5

I visited Tán for a birthday celebration a while back. The décor and atmosphere deliberately mimic what you might find in Mexico. I've been to Tulum and it'll definitely make you feel like you're at a beach club on the Mayan Riviera (Yucatan Peninsula). We sat outside on a hot day but the wind and fans were enough to make us feel comfortable. For the food, I'd like to start in an unconventional place: The Kale Salad. I know, I know, no one will believe me, but it was REALLY good! I'm not a big salad or veggies guy, but I had it and it surprised everyone. Trust me. Try it. Our group was about eight (8) people deep so we ordered several appetizers, including the bone marrow, ceviche amarillo, esquites, oysters and guacamole. All were great tasting, however I recall wishing there was more of the tortilla/bread/crackers/carbs for consumption with some of the apps. Interestingly, it's the same thought I had during a visit to one of the beach clubs in Tulum. I remember ordering the short rib for dinner (no point deductions there). My secondary option was the salmon. Maybe I'll try that on my next visit. Others tried the lamb and I can't recall the rest of the main dishes. We loved it all. We loved the drinks as well. There's one of them that was presented with smoke-under-glass (Shaman´s Tán Mezcalita). It's quite the instagram-worthy show, but if you're near one of the big outdoor fans, the show will be cut short lol. The waitstaff was great. We stayed afterwards for the speakeasy on the ground level, for even more drinks. Again, they didn't disappoint. However, the flow of the area was hindered by furniture in the middle of the passageway between the front and rear of the floor. They have small tables there, but I can't imagine those tables being comfortable places to sit with people constantly passing back and forth. Anyways, It's definitely worth a visit. It's got potential for greatness if the speakeasy portion's feng shui is adjusted. The outdoor fan position might need some tweaking. Other than that, you should have a tasty time!

Gorgeous interior with impeccable service and tasty food! I took my dad out for dinner while he was in town for a visit and we had cocktails, appetizers, and an entree. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The Yucatan chicken was so tender and delicious! Beyond food quality and presentation, service was top-notch. You certainly won't be waiting for a refill on water/another drink (for example) or need to flag down a server to order additional items when dining here. I have nothing but great things to say about Tán!

I'm so sad writing this review because this used to be my favorite place but it has gone downhill since it opened. I decided to go for brunch to celebrate a special occasion and brought all my friends. The service was horrendous, for such an expensive place, you'd think they would try to be nice to their customers. Our server acted like we were inconveniencing her by asking her to do her job. She had a nasty attitude the entire time and they kept forgetting to bring our "bottomless" drinks so it literally would've been cheaper to buy them a la carte. The food??? Everything was cold by the time it got to us and the quality and taste of the food has shockingly gotten so bad. I'm super disappointed that a day that was supposed to be celebrated with good food turned into my friends and I being deeply frustrated with every aspect of dining here. Management really needs to get their shit together and hire competent people who actually like their jobs. The vibe of this place and how pretty it is just doesn't cut it if the food and service is this bad and you're still charging exorbitant prices Go elsewhere

Went to Tan to celebrate a friends birthday and it was so stunning! The place is gorgeous! The hostess was rude when we walked in and pretended like she didn't understand me, I gave her the name of the party 3x and with an attitude she says YOU NEED A NAME and my husband had to jump in because he didn't like her tone either. Anyway, that was literally the only negative. The drinks are amazinggggggg! There was this one margarita that had like a raspberry or pomegranate foam on top, very elite! We started with the guac and queso. The chips were freshly made and seasoned so well. Unfortunately, the queso wasn't hot enough and had more of a rubber texture but I can tell it would have been delicious. The salmon was served over a purée of plantain and bean sauce which was INCREDIBLE! The lobster tacos were literally perfect and the ESQUITES- OH MY GOD! Can't wait to go back!

3.5 stars I've recently returned to tán for dinner and I wasn't as impressed as I was during first my dinner there. The Ceviche Amarillo was good, but underwhelming. The Shrimp-Crab Enchiladas were pretty good, as well as the Salmon dish that my hubby had. Our waiter was pleasant and friendly. We didn't like their mocktails at all; just either super sweet or not sweet enough. Not worth the price. On my first visit, the Lobster Tacos were really great so I hope they keep that on the menu (the only complaint is they were only 3!) The dessert was enjoyable, super pretty presentation! Plus I love anything with chocolate.

Came with a group of 12 people, so we were able to try a variety of items. Had the guacamole, esquite corn, queso, and birria vegetarian enchilada. Food was good, but we had some issues initially with the waiter since he said he couldn't make the enchilada nut free - eventually they did but there was a lot of confusion to get to that result. They do not list any nut allergies on the menu also which seems strange. Also the food took over an hour to come, but given we had a huge group not sure if that is normal. Ambience is very nice and has an authentic tulum vibe.

Coming to tán is an "experience." From the moment you enter, you're going to forget that you're in NYC. The first decorations that you'll see is an homage to celebrities. As the kind Hostess walks you upstairs, and leads you to your elegant table, you will enter Tulum, Mexico. The opulent decor, the gentle music, the way in which the napkins are folded, the comfort of your seat, the attention to detail waitstaff......every minor detail has been addressed and perfected. Every single drink was made to optimum quality. The non-alcoholic Spicy Water Melon Lemonade & Coco-Mango were smooth, refreshing, in tall glasses, and amazing. My Classic Margarita was strong and the dark salt rim made it visually appealing. We started with the Guacamole & Salsas. The layout was superb, the accompanying Tlayuda (dinner-plate-sized corn tortilla that's cooked until crispy) were pleasantly crunchy and each of the four salsas complemented this highly recommended starter. The entrees followed suit. Each had an impressive presentation, each was mouth watering, savory, and had unique explosions of flavor: Ceviche Tulum Campechano (red snapper, octopus, shrimp, onion, tomato, cilantro, serrano, lime), Bone Marrow (adobo octopus, salsa verde, salsa roja, housemade corn tortillas), Adobo Salmon (plantain purée, habanero glaze, sautéed swiss chard, black bean hoja santa sauce). Dessert was just as exquisite....the Oaxacan Chocolate Fudge (vanilla ice cream, salted toffee butter sauce) and La Fresa (strawberry, almond sponge cake, yogurt foam, agave honey, lychee jelly) were heavenly. I really appreciated how Managers stopped at our table, asking if we were content and explaining how much more tán has to offer. For example, they have a Sunday Brunch, with unlimited food & drinks and Friday night live music. They also have a magnificent Speakeasy room, downstairs, that you have to see to believe. My video will not do justice to what you'll see in that room. I cannot recommend tán, enough. If you want to get away from it all, if you want great food, if you want to be surrounded by Mexico....."experience" tán.

I recently celebrated my birthday at Tan with a group of friends, and overall, it was a great experience. The ambiance is very Tulum-inspired, giving the restaurant a trendy and relaxed vibe. There's a cool bar area where you can hang out while waiting for your table, which is a nice touch. The drink menu is diverse, with plenty of creative options to choose from, setting the stage for a fun night. While the service was excellent overall, there was one glaring issue that affected our evening--the hostess. Unfortunately, she came across as rude and unwelcoming, which felt out of place given how well-known Tan is for its food and service. It was a bit confusing, especially considering how high-end the restaurant's vibe is. Despite this, our server was friendly and attentive, which helped balance out the initial negative impression. We were seated upstairs in an open setting, which was lively and spacious. We started with guacamole and salsa, as well as the Queso Fundido. The guac and salsa were fresh and flavorful, but the Queso Fundido was a letdown--it was cold and had a rubbery texture, which was disappointing. For the main course, I had the Ribeye Chicharrón Sope, which was incredible! The combination of the corn masa flatbread, huitlacoche purée, salsa verde, and all the fresh toppings was outstanding. The flavors were vibrant and perfectly balanced. Also ordered the Shrimp + Crab Enchiladas, which came with a creamy guajillo sauce, queso fresco, and baby greens. These enchiladas were packed with flavor, and the creamy sauce really brought everything together. Both dishes were warm, well-presented, and absolutely delicious--definitely the highlight of the meal. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their entree choice as well. To cap off the night, they brought out a complimentary birthday dessert, which was a sweet surprise. We also had coffee to finish off the evening, adding a nice touch to the celebration. In summary, while the hostess left a bad first impression, the food, service, and overall vibe at Tan made for an enjoyable evening. I'll definitely be back to try their brunch menu and give them another chance. Tan is worth a visit for anyone looking for a trendy spot with amazing food.

Went for happy hour. Had a few drinks and shareable that were on the HH menu. The Quesabirria was the best. 2 small empanadas filled with birria. The guacamole was fresh. Just perfection. The decor and ambience is worth the visit itself.

Be prepared that when you first arrive outside, you will just see a single door to entrance. You will not see the actual restaurant from outside. But when you come in, it's a whole new world. What drew me and my friends here was the decor and ambiance! And it was so worth it. This place is aesthetically pleasing. It has a downstairs bar that you can have some drinks, too, and listen to live music from a DJ. We had excellent service from a server named Dianna. She made us feel special and even gave us two desserts as we celebrated for birthdays together! The food was unique and decadent. All the dishes seem very intentional and full of flavor.

Went here for birthday dinner as a group of five, and had made reservations for a Tuesday evening. The place still had tables so don't recommend reservations on weekdays. We got seated in the outdoor heated rooftop. Got started with a few cocktails (slightly on the expensive end), and will definitely recommend the Shaman's Tan Mezcalita ($22). Tried the Margarita Jungle ($18) too, which was just ok. Our food included Guacamole ($18) which was a really tiny portion. It was served with grilled corn tlayudas though, which were really tasty! They kept bringing more of those on request. Bone Marrow ($25) was enjoyed by our table, and so was a side of Roasted Broccolini ($11) which was a little bitter, but the poblano sauce was really tasty! Mains included Enchiladas ($21) which was quite tasty and filling. The Lobster Tacos ($28) were just okay, but the Yucatan Chicken ($32) was enjoyed by our table! Service was good, and special shoutout to Caleb for being a very nice host. Noise levels were on the lower end. Their restroom actually did stink, and could definitely use some deep cleaning! Overall, we had an ok experience.

I had been eager to check out Lum inside tan so when my friend from out of town wanted to meet for drinks at a trendy spot, it seemed like the perfect choice. Unfortunately, the experience fell short, despite the potential of the venue. Upon arrival, we were met by a host who didn't seem interested in making us feel welcome. She immediately informed us that the speakeasy was closed for a private event, which was disappointing but understandable. I asked if we could check out the upstairs bar, only to be told there wasn't one. It was early in the evening, and dinner service had just begun, so I asked if we could at least get a table for two. After an eye roll and a half-hearted "sure," we were seated, but not before being asked in a rather unfriendly tone if we planned on ordering dinner. As someone who's worked in hospitality for nearly 10 years, I know how busy and stressful evenings can be, but the lack of warmth from both the host and the server was off-putting. The server's attitude became more dismissive once he realized we were only ordering drinks and two appetizers. When another friend attempted to joined us, we decided we should stay for dinner and asked if we could move to a larger table. Even though the dining room was far from full, the manager told us there was nothing they could do to accommodate our request. That it was "impossible" The saving grace? The drinks were excellent--crafted with care and bursting with flavor. The food was decent, though not particularly memorable, which made the lackluster service all the more disappointing. Tan has so much potential with its stylish decor and fantastic cocktails, but the staff's attitude left us feeling more like an inconvenience than welcomed guests. A shame, because with just a bit more hospitality, it could be a go-to spot.

The interior is so cute! Definitely reminds me of tulum! We tried bone marrow, lobster tacos, ceviche Amarillo, short rib al carbon, Yucatán chicken, and a side of corn. All the food we had was genuinely well made, with a few stand outs. The Guacamole & Salsas is an easy go-to for the table to munch on before your entrees. The Ceviche Amarillo was fresh with great flavors and the Oysters were unlike any I've had before. They are dressed quite well and definitely have a Tulum-inspired flavor to them. The Short Rib al Carbon was unbelievably tender and mouth-watering. It's a bit steep at ~$53 but honestly well worth it. The Striped Bass Tikin-Xic Style was also quite good, the portion of fish was very reasonable, and I loved the marinade. The Bone Marrow was decent but the octopus was a bit too chewy. And not to mention, the presentation of all the dishes was exceptional! I truly feel like I teleported to Tulum without leaving NYC. Since we were a big group, a 20% tip was automatically added. Service was good throughout the night and they weren't particularly busy when we were there. Great spot to celebrate a birthday or just to get dressed up and hang out with the girls!

They have a lot of healthy options on the menu. a great spot to catchup with old friends after work with small appetizers! Foods are pretty decent, drinks are pretty! Beautiful interior made you feel like you are on vacation! Service was very good, they explained menu and everything to us really well. We were very happy with this place!

Came here for Valentine's Day and had their 4 course pre fixe menu. We didn't get seated until an hour past our reservation time. Each course took an hour and a half to come out and it was classical small portions as well. We understand a little bit of a longer wait, but we fully missed 2 other reservations we had later on in the night. We didn't leave until a 1:15am. We attempted to bring this up to management only to have 2 drinks comped. LOL not at all worth the $400 price tag. Definitely a spot attempting to be high end and exclusive, but clearly missing the mark with service and food quality.

Love love love! First of all, the drinks are amaaaaaazing! We started off with the bone marrow and hamachi. The bone marrow was good, but it's not your typical bone marrow as it comes topped off with salsa and sliced octopus. The hamachi was great quality. I'm not sure if I was a fan of the lobster tacos - they're super tiny and didn't really taste like anything, but omg was the short rib al carbon was OUT OF THIS WORLD. The pork belly was also ok, but I still can't stop thinking about the short rib. I also want to mention how Yadi was absolutely wonderful! She was super helpful and I just loved her energy in general. At the end, we also decided to get some more drinks at the lounge/speakeasy. Thank you! Can't wait to come back again!!!

Wow! What a beautifully decorated spot. When you walk in, it feels like another world, paradise. Food is equally delicate and beautifully plated. Yucatán Mexican food is definitely trendy and this place is so fresh, hip but also very upscale. Delicious cuisine and equally beautiful but good drinks. Reservations are a good idea. Great for a special a occasion and the service was pretty good and very helpful at ensuring we had a well balanced sharable choice of dishes for my friend's birthday!

We went on a Wednesday and the place was packed! We wished we had gone another day to actually hang out but we loved how the ambiance was. The food was very fresh, nothing that wowed us but mid portions.

Gorgeous atmosphere, absolutely beautiful! Our party of five came here for my long time friend's 30TH birthday! There seemed to be a lot of birthdays happening that night, our table was surrounded by happy celebrations! That being said, the staff was incredibly attentive and gave everyone equal and top attention! There was a little bit of a mix up with my order, but I think I might have confused our waiter. I asked for the Queso Fundido, but wanted to know the portion size. I didn't mean to order it, which is what ended up happening. But they were quick to remove and were apologetic, which wasn't at all necessary! I personally apologize for not being clear on it. I ended up getting the pork belly, and it was incredibly delicious! Not that bad of a price for it too! I will say that the four stars is for the birthday girl's portion size of the lobster taco. I get that lobster meat is expensive, hence way the price was up there, but the portion to price ratio is a little bit absurd. I'll post a picture of it for reference. She ordered the bone marrow dish as a follow up, which looked amazing! But I do wish that maybe the sizing for the meals were a little bit more clear. It's hard to gauge online aside from personal reviews from patrons on yelp and google. But back to the positives! Our birthday girl ordered a cake from the outside and had it shipped! Our waiter was trying to gauge how to ask the question since he didn't know if the cake was a surprise. Again, it shows the care that the staff had towards our stay. What I also loved is that they cut the cake for us, and went as far to use the props that were individually on the cakes and place them on our own pieces as little decorations. It was so sweet They also let us take photos in the corner after we paid for our meals. Tàn overall was a wonderful night out, and I'm definitely looking to return for either a date night or another girl's night! Thank you so much for your wonderful service!

Amazing SERVICE AND FOOD. Came here for bottomless brunch, there wasn't a disappointing item on the menu. Drinks were strong music and decor were excellent. I picked this restaurant because I love their sister restaurant in Washington DC, and I wasn't disappointed with this one. I will definitely be back.

myself and four friends took a trip to tán to celebrate a 22nd birthday within our group. this is a very beautiful establishment, easy on the eyes. it encapsulates tulum even though we were in the heart of midtown. food: tulum spritz - 10/10, great cocktail with beautiful presentation. if you're not a fan of drinks that taste like alcohol, get this. very faint but you will feel the buzz. the taste is similar to a san pelligrino blood orange if you've ever had that. guacamole & chips - 9/10, great flavor. no need for additional salt or lime. i do wish it came with more chips but i think you can request that. crab & shrimp enchiladas - 9/10, tasty, a bit spicy wish it had more meat but i didn't leave feeling hungry. portions: if you want to leave satisfied, don't order the lobster tacos. they are ridiculously small, though my friend said she enjoyed them. the crab and shrimp enchiladas were filling with hint of spice. all of the flavors worked really well together and i recommend ordering this. the yucatán chicken was also a good size, as this is what the birthday girl had for her meal. service + cleanliness: when your food is brought to you, they explain exactly what you ordered. our waitress was very attentive. i didn't quite catch her name, but she was a pleasure. the bathroom was nice and clean, but SMALL. there are only 2 stalls and though this restaurant isn't huge, 2 stalls seems like a pain. the size of the stalls were also on the small size as well. the table was clean & comfortable when we were seated. the cushions felt like clouds. general: i think a reservation is typically needed, but it's not super hard to snag. there's also a bar/speakeasy downstairs if you're looking for that type of vibe. check out tán for your next date night or special occasion!

Great spot! The interior is absolutely breathtaking! We arrived a little late for our reservation but they were happy to seat us right away. I loved the couch style seating, and the wall decor, wow. It felt like a cross between Mexican Mayan and Moroccan themed, but very relaxing and upscale inside. We started off with a bottle of wine. They didn't have the one we wanted, so the manager was kind enough to hook us up with another bottle. The menu had a lot of fun, interesting dishes. We started with the bone marrow, which I heard was incredible. The ceviche we ordered was also excellent. The queso came with an option of mushrooms or chorizo - we opted for the mushrooms - which was excellent. I loved the presentation too. The octopus was my least favorite dish - a little too chewy for me (maybe the vendors fault here). We ordered two desserts and they hooked us up with 4. The strawberry shortcake (deconstructed) was outstanding. After dinner, the manager suggested we check out the 'speakeasy' downstairs so we did. Dimly lit with lots of candles, it was a really cool high end Mayan like pyramids/caves feel. We felt like we were at a Disney park. Very unique cocktail menu too. Also, the martinis are pretty solid - they give you a fair amount of booze! Everyone loved the experience!

I just ate here last night with my girlfriends for a girls night out. The restaurant is really beautiful and resembles Mexico or Tulum well. Definitely IG worthy. We ordered mocktails because I'm pregnant. So good. We had passion fruit mojitos. We ordered the Guacamole for the table which was 10/10. Then we ordered our entrees. I got the shrimp and crab enchiladas 10/10 so good. My friends had the salmon 8/10 she didn't like the mole sauce. And my other friend had the lobster tacos 10/10 just a little small. Service was good our server was really nice and was able to recommend dishes. The only thing that sucked was that it was so cold in this place. They need to fix that asap because tulum is Hot not cold.

Made a reservation weeks in advance to celebrate a milestone birthday, which I indicated in my booking app notes. When we arrived the entranced felt hot and stuffy and we said it out loud but none of the three people at concierge desk acknowledged our comment. We were taken upstairs to the dining area which was sparsely occupied, except for one section. I was surprised that they sandwiched two of us in a section that was already cramped while more than half of the other side of the restaurant was practically empty. What made matters worse was the heat. There was no air flowing through the space. When we asked the woman who brought us to our table why it was so hot, she responded with a level of heightened annoyance that the AC was down and left. We asked if we could even be moved to a less crowded area thinking it might be better. After 15 minutes of deliberation by the staff, they agreed to move us. Seriously - moving two people in a hot restaurant that was sparsely filled was a big deal? It was a super hot day and the heat was becoming increasingly worse and intolerable. We asked if we could cancel our reservation and do a rain check for another day. The waiter insisted that we would be charged a booking fee for the reservation because we are cancelling on the day of without even acknowledging that we couldn't stay because of the heat issue. Again - it should not be this difficult for restaurants to do the right thing for patrons. We asked if we could speak to the manager and he refused to come out and speak to us because we were getting nowhere with waiter. It was not about the money but more about the principle here. The waiter left and after another 5 mins or so he came back and said we could cancel without penalty. As we were walking down the stairs, we could hear the Manager complaining to the three attendants that were cancelling and was customer bashing. Very professional indeed. Very disrespectful. I could appreciate that things happen and they are beyond a business' control; however, what's in their control is how the handle the situation. It's simple - 1. Inform patrons at check-in of any service not available or of any disruptions 2. Offer alternatives to make them comfortable 3. Offer a drink or something to make them feel you're doing sometime about the service 4. Be professional- especially front of the house managers 5. do not ruin special events for your patrons My friend was celebrating a special birthday so we had to find some less than ideal restaurant to dine for his birthday. Shame on the staff at Tan. To the staff and owners- have you stopped to see how many restaurants that have gone out of business in Midtown? Think Zengo? The ones with staying power are those with great food and excelling service. We have options!

Went there for a special occasion with a bunch of friends, atmosphere well decorated, they spend a lot of money trying to make the place impressive due to lack of flavor in their food and service. This is highly overrated un-authentic Mexican food trying to be something else, which I don't understand why anyone has to pay so much, when you can go to a street vendor and pay 1/10 and get an authentic flavor much better food than this. The only reason I gave it a one star and save it from going negative is that the atmosphere is worth looking. $27 for bottle of water! Really! Btw, service 2 stars.

Dined here for brunch and selected the unlimited plates and bottomless cocktail option. -Even though there was a great selection of dishes to choose from, the small plates came out very slowly. This was not what I expected since the portion size were tapa style. I would think they would bring out the dishes more frequently. -The food was tasty and my party also enjoyed the cocktails. -The decor was beautiful, I truly felt as if I was in Tulum. -Great music selection to go with the vibe. -The staff were professional and communicated effectively

It seems like tan recently opened as my friend wanted to try it. There are a lot of menu options, and we ended up ordering: - guacamole and salsa - ceviche tulum - lobster tacos - duck confit tacos - short rib - roasted broccolini - roasted corn cake (for dessert) The serving size on the tacos is quite small, though the taste was really delicious, particularly for the lobster tacos. The ceviche and the salsas were the other high points. The low point was really the service. I took a long time for everything to come out and for our orders to be taken. My friend was breaking her fast, and we waited almost 30 minutes after being seated before even getting water. My other friend ordered a drink, and it didn't come until we had already received our fourth dish. We sat for dinner at around 7:15, and we didn't finish until 10:15. Some of that time was spent waiting for the check which took a long time for us to receive, but it was an exceptionally slow dinner service. We were seated on the patio where there weren't many other parties, so I'm not sure if they forgot about us. It took so long between courses, I'm not sure if they actually forgot to put our orders in. I hope they iron out their service issues.

We stopped by tan for our anniversary dinner. I booked about 3.5 weeks in advance. The whole booking experience was a bit odd so I am knocking off a star. The only availability was outside. I called to ask about indoor availability and a nice man told me that would be possible. He handed over the phone to a rude lady who said no way. She was so rude that I considered changing my reservation to another restaurant. On the day we came by, they did manage to fit us inside and the restaurant had plenty of empty tables the entire time we were there. I am quite confused about their reservation situation. The food was excellent. I considered skipping the guacamole but I am glad I didn't. The guac itself seemed better than the average guac. The salsas were excellent too. For my dinner I ordered the ceviche Amarillo which was excellent and a generous portion too. In contrast the lobster tacos were shockingly tiny. Check out the photo I added. My husband got the Yucatán chicken which he thought was good but overall it seems this restaurant does really well with seafood since I seemed much happier with my food. The drinks were really good. I got the coconut mango fizz and my husband got the cucumber mule (both non alcoholic). The dessert was excellent. We got the chocolate fondant. The service was good throughout and the ambiance is lovely.

I wanted to visit this restaurant because it looked really good on a Instagram reel I saw. I was sorely disappointed. All the dishes but one were super salty. The only dish that had a redeeming quality were the fish tacos. There is a lack of service because our table was overfilling with empty plates and they only bothered to switch out our utensils towards the end of the meal. You can get unlimited drinks and food but it's not worth it considering the food is lackluster and the drinks are nothing special. The restaurant's ambience is nice but if they sit you in the covered patio, you will either be super cold or super hot due to the heat lamps (there is no in between).

I came here with friends for a Galentine's dinner on a Sunday evening. Heard amazing things from tik tok so I wanted to see what the hype was about. I got a chance to take a peak at the speakeasy they have directly below the restaurant. It's a small but really cute spot where you can grab drinks while you wait before dinner or even post dinner. We had to wait a little for our table but once we were seated, everything moved pretty quickly. The restaurant gives very tropical vibes, it almost makes you feel like you've been transported to Tulum. Our server was super helpful and explained the dishes to us and gave great drink recommendations. We ordered a bunch but my personal favorite was the Tulum Spritz, which was light and refreshing. Given we were such a large group, we ordered a lot from the menu. Here's the rundown: Guacamole: We just got the plain option even though you could get it with Tuna or Pork Belly for an additional price. I thought it was pretty good, seasoned well, and a decent portion for our group of 5. They do not give enough chips (large crispy charred tortillas so not like a traditional chip) so we had to ask for more a few times. Tuna Tartare: This was solid. The fish tasted fresh but I thought it could have used a bit more acid. Kinda felt one note. Ceviche Amarillo: I absolutely loved this one! The tuna was again very fresh, and it was sweet from the mango and acidic at the same time. The sauce was fantastic, I would get this again! Octopus Maya: We didn't really enjoy this as much. The meat was chewy and none of the toppings really stood out or added anything to it. We also didn't enjoy the tortillas it came with as they were very dry. Short Rib Al Carbon: This was my favorite thing of the night. Pretty large portion. The meat was juicy and tender, and the perfect combination of charred, sweet, and savory. Loved that we could make our own perfect bites by filling the lettuce wraps with tomatillo and red onion. 100% order this! Adobo Salmon: I didn't love or hate this. The salmon was a little on the drier side and the plantain puree wasn't exciting. Halibut special: This was very tasty! It came on top of a potato puree (?) which was a lot better than the salmon in comparison. Esquites: This might have been the best esquites I've ever had. It was seasoned so well and the sauce was nice and creamy. Definely get this. Roasted Broccolini: Also thoroughly enjoyed these. The char was great and it paired nicely with the esquites. Oaxacan Chocolate Fudge: Love a lava cake and this one did not disappoint. It was a perfect ending to this meal. Didn't taste the Lobster tacos but they were obscenely tiny and priced very high. Would not recommend ordering them if you're hungry. TLDR: Overall a great, albeit pricey, meal. Highlights were the Ceviche Amarillo, Short Rib Al Carbon, Esquites, and the Chocolate Fudge. Cute date night spot, would probably come back. Rating: 4/5 stars.

The restaurant is beautiful, with a great lounge, main room and terrace. Service is gracious and warm. Food was very good as well as the drinks.

Despite the small unassuming entrance, the restaurant opened up to a nice cavernous bar area in the back, and a fine dining environment on top. It was a really nice place, not too loud, with nice low lighting. I stayed in the patio. The restaurant is only on the second floor, but the quiet street it was on meant that it still felt isolated and high up, looking up at the skyline. Food was alright. We had the Ceviche, Guac and the Queso Fondido to start. And I had the Salmon over corn esquites. The corn was super delicious. Aside from that everything was good, but nothing really stood out. Overall positive experience, and I'd recommend for someone looking for a last minute date spot.

The restaurant is gorgeous! It really does transport you to another place--think upscale bohemian tropics. The vibe is sexy and classy. The service is excellent--staff was attentive, warm, and informative. The cocktails were well made and the presentation was cool. The food was also good. The food portions are very small.

The service was absolutely amazing along with the management. The food was also amazing, the drinks were a little strong but doable. The bathrooms were a little dirty but again very nice.

Food was good but price point was questionable for the Antojitos and Platos Fuertes and service left a bad impression. Tldr: service spilled ceviche juice on my outfit, phone and arm; portions for Antojitos can be very small...; felt like a free for all for Instagram pictures to no end with large tables so come if you're prepared for that vibe We thoroughly enjoyed the ceviche tulum, tuna tostadas and the queso fundido especially with the tortilla pig! What a delight but once service came to clean the plates, service went downhill. The server spilled a plate of ceviche juice on me, on my outfit, my coat and phone and my side of the table with little less than an apology and gave me a wipe to clean it up. I've never experienced this before with table service and would've assumed he would've removed the plate from across the table instead of over me, thus resulting in ceviche juice over my arm. When they replaced the cutlery, they forgot to take another person's old set, so we had to ask for a new one. Antojitos were too small: lobster tacos were overcooked and the black bean shmear unappetizing and made the tacos look burnt. The pork belly looked good and the cauliflower entree looked delicious. Two dishes came 5-10 minutes after the rest arrived.. which again was odd since I've usually experienced service ensuring the table's main meals are served at the same time... I ordered the ribeye chicharron but there wasn't much ribeye and it blended in with the ton of black beans on top. Dessert: enjoyed the crepes with cajeta and caramel ice cream. The server forgot milk even though we mentioned it during our order and some of the coffees weren't hot...

Tán brings you high quality service, a stunning ambiance, and food that makes you want to come back We had the bone marrow, lobster tacos, salmon, and enchiladas The standout was the enchiladas, whatever red sauce was on that... I NEED MORE. The lobster tacos I could've done without. My first time trying bone marrow and it lives up the the hype! My friend didn't really like the salmon, said it was mid. I definitely want to come back and try the drinks, they look beautiful. There is also a bar downstairs. This is the perfect date night

The vibe and ambiance here is terrific. Shou out to Gigi, the bartender on the lower level, for some phenomenal drinks!

Horrible experience. Waited 41 minutes past our actual reservation time. No apologies. Managers (whom they lied about who it was initially) offered us "complimentary" guacamoles then charged us for them! Terrible. Will never recommend. Don't waste your time or money. Have been living in NYC for 20 years and have never had such a horrible experience. It was my birthday dinner (which they knew) that I booked 4 weeks in advance and we checked in 1.5 hours before ressie and went to Lum which is actually nice. But when we went to get our table they kept saying it wasnt ready for 41 minutes. Unbelievable.
