Delicious food, great vibe, and courteous service-All things that make a meal memorable. We had a very satiating meal at Tandem after a tiring morning of furniture hunting. One of the best Avacado toast I have had-made special with a tomato chutney and crisp Radish slices. A decadent Cheese toast on thick milk bread slices made with goat cheese and 2 other cheeses. A must try is the humble linguine with its fresh lemony flavor and brocolli rabe and other greens. The last dish on our table was the Atlantic Salmon with pickled Radish and fingerling potatoes in a little flavorful broth at the base. Salmon was perfectly done and the broth delicious..clean and fresh. We loved all the dishes that we ordered. Not surprised that Tandem is one of the most popular hangouts near Chapel Hill.

I had an incredible birthday dinner. My server, Jackson, was super attentive and helpful. My Daring Clementine cocktail was superb. The braised short ribs were cooked to perfection. It was hard to stop eating them but I had to save room for desert. The chocolate pudding cake with coffee ice cream was absolutely divine and paired with a rose Cava sparkling wine, it was the most indulgent ending to an immaculate meal. I will most definitely be returning.

Chose this place for my FB dinner club group to usher in the new year. Honestly...wished I picked somewhere else. The food was great and the service was decent but what ruined the night at least for me is the fact they put our party of 9 on the crap end of their "chef" table. I was seated at the end of the table right next to their kitchen door. One of their incompetent servers kept hitting my chair every time he walked by, EVEN after I spoke to him about it. Our server was fine but took forever getting us drink refills, including water which served in these ridiculous small glasses. The woman who sat us should have kept us at the other end of the table, where she originally sat us. Our party was bigger than the other one, and they could've been sat at the other end. Bottom line, don't pick this place for a large group, more than 5 and you'll get sat at what I now call the crap table. What a way to ruin our New Year's celebration.

This was an interesting place,… I went by the number of stars that it got on Google reviews… And boy was I wrong! We arrived and were seated right away …then we waited approximately 17 minutes for anybody to even acknowledge us to take a drink order or give us water. Finally, Hannah arrived, took our drink and appetizer order…. 15 minutes later, Appetizers arrived and we got no plates… Had to ask for plates… Drinks arrive shortly after… I ordered a Prosecco and it came in a large wine glass… Weirdly…but no water yet.. at that time we ordered our entrée.. Entrées arrived approximately 45 minutes after we had even entered the restaurant… I ordered the salmon and it was lukewarm… My husband ordered the ribs and they were perfectly hot… In addition, my salmon came in a large bowl that was so high like a salad bowl it came up to my chest, and it was strange eating out of it… It tasted good, but it would’ve been nice if it came out hot. We have already decided we’re not gonna wait around for dessert so we just want to get our check… Drum roll please… 15 minutes goes by and finally the bartender notices that we’re sitting there so he comes over and gives us our check… Felt like we just waited and waited for everything here service was terrible understand that sometimes they’re short but that’s not my problem when you have a restaurant that is supposed to be this caliber You expect the service would be right up there… But it’s a complete mismatch! Probably not going back.

I came with group and the restaurant handled us beautifully as the same time with other regular customers. I didn’t get the chance to see the menu because our group meals were pre set. I also didn’t have chance to take pictures of the main courses which were the short ribs, salmon and chicken. Everything was delicious.

High hopes for Valentine’s Day to visit this restaurant. Atmosphere and service were great, food not so much. We ordered 2 appetizers, pork belly & scallops and lamb skewers, Though both delicious, they both came out very quickly and were room temperature/cold. Main course was Rib Eye and potatoes, potatoes were divine however, steak was very tough and leathery, very inedible. We asked to send the food back and order something else, the Manager stated these were “quality” steaks and were not going to remove them from our bill but we could order something else. I’m sorry, but just because you have “quality “ steaks delivered to the restaurant doesn’t mean they are cooked properly. Literally spent 45 min in the restaurant from walking in the door to leaving. Will not be going back. Total bill without tip, $160.00

Our daughter’s rehearsal dinner was held in the restaurant then welcome drinks on the patio. We cannot say enough about the service, food and experience. Javier went above and beyond when helping us set up and get everything ready. He was responsive- positive and helpful. Hannah , the server was “on-it”. I would recommend this venue.

Tandem brought our wedding day dreams to life! The team was absolutely exceptional—professional, attentive, and truly passionate about what they do. Our guests are still raving that it was the best meal they've had at a wedding. Emma was incredibly responsive, organized, and genuinely thoughtful throughout the entire planning process, making everything feel seamless and stress-free. We can’t recommend them highly enough—they helped make our wedding day unforgettable in every way.

Food: 10/10! I will recommend this spot to anyone traveling to the area. Everything was so flavorful and the sides paired well with each meal! *chefs kiss* I was literally looking for the chef when I was done! Service: The service was pretty good! Our server was patient and kind with us even though we were ere there right before closing Ambiance: It is nice vibe! It's a good spot for date night, girls night out or even a colleague dinner. I was on a work trip and I'm so glad my colleague made reservations here! Will def go back to try their brunch!

I visited Tandem this past weekend for their brunch service, and I had a great experience! Tandem boasts an elegant yet cozy decor, with plenty of natural light. The service was exceptional--our server was friendly and attentive. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and Tandem's version exceeded my expectations. The shrimp were perfectly cooked--succulent and flavorful, and the grits were creamy with just the right texture. The portion size was generous, which I appreciated, especially given the reasonable price. My friend ordered the Mediterranean Omelette and also enjoyed it as well! We'll definitely be back soon to try out their dinner menu

Had a great meal at Tandem! My friend and I treated ourselves to a nice dinner here on a Sunday night. I made a reservation for 6:30pm for 2, but I don't think it was needed since the restaurant had little people when we got there. The interior inside is very industrial, with lots of wooden features (like the floor, chairs, tabletops) and string lights hanging from the ceiling. The walls were brick, and it had great big industrial windows which provided great natural lighting. The service was fine, but nothing over the top. I ordered the 72 hour short rib, and my friend got the salmon. It was delicious. It came in a Le Creuset pot with mashed potatoes and assorted veggies on the side. Stunning presentation, and might I say, those pots are expensive, and they have multiple of them. But I guess it was worth the investment because it looked really nice. The beef was super juicy and tender. High quality melt-in-your-mouth beef. And they don't shy away from the portion. It looked like a fat square block. But it was genuinely glistening in the light. The mashed potatoes were just alright for me. They had a strong flavor that I can't pinpoint - maybe too much cheese? They also put mint on the mashed potatoes and beef, which was quite a surprise, but I don't think I prefer it. The veggies were a nice touch with the beef. Overall, great experience and amazing food. I definitely would come back for another nice dinner!

Visiting my daughter from out of town and she heard great things about their brunch. All true. My daughter started with the spiked ice coffee, I had an iced latte then the spritzer For our meals I had the omelette she had the salmon Benedict both were fantastic.

Upscale southern food served in a casual atmosphere with attentive and waitstaff. Definitely recommend!

Great ambiance. They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. The food was pleasing to the eye and delicious. Service was also very good.

I can't lie to my precious little eaters, this is the best salmon I've ever had. It was prepared medium rare-ish (the perfect way to prepare salmon in my opinion). It came with black forbidden rice (spoooky), cauliflower, masala curry, coconut, and citrus & pumpkin seed relish. Oh my. This dish was so good I would eat it again for dessert. The caesar salad was classic and yummy. It had full anchovies on it which was appreciated. If I'm going to eat an anchovy I don't want it ground up in the dressing, I want to see that mofo. If I'm remembering correctly, the soup flavor was some type of creamy squash vibe ??? All I know is that it was a special for the day and it was so yum. The little grub looking things on top were little crispies that added a fun texture. ‍

Great restaurant fit for brunch. We went with my son and daughter in law and with my wife. My son ordered the brisket sandwich, I got mussels and a Cobb salad the girls ordered soup and grilled cheese, my wife got the grilled cheese with tomato and fries. Her sandwich was a bit wet but I would think that was because of adding the tomato. my son's wife got the soup of the day with a grilled cheese sandwich. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal as I did. My son really enjoyed his brisket sandwich. The restaurant is situated in an old mill. Very nice atmosphere.with comfortable tables and chairs. The waitress was very attentive and made sure are drinks were filled and anything we needed she helped with. All in all very enjoyable meal will definitely go back again.

I went with a group of 11 here, while I enjoyed the food it was very overpriced for the quality. I got the chicken Benedict and one of my eggs was gelatinous in the middle and the other almost undercooked. My wife got the BLT and my son the Grilled cheese sandwich, which they enjoyed, but getting a drink refill was difficult. I had to ask the manager and he went in search of the waitress and only when unable to find her did he get refills for us. Strong food service managers will be aware of their customers and correct things not try to track someone down to handle it. If I'm gonna pay 18 dollars for a sandwich then I expect service to match. If I go here it will be because someone else suggest it... this area has so many good places where cost and service are more aligned.

Tandem is SO GOOD! This is one of our absolute favorite restaurants in the Chapel Hill area! Delicious food.... unique flavors and beautiful presentation! The restaurant vibe in the old cotton mill is so perfect; especially when paired with one of their craft cocktails. Brad is so knowledgeable about the menu, and I'm convinced nothing on the menu would disappoint. Their appetizers, salmon, steak, salads and all accompaniments are all heavenly! Looking forward to our next visit!

We ate there last month. The space is very inviting. The chairs were the most comfortable ever. But the food was just ok. Charcuterie was very expensive and not much food. My potato soup was inedible. It tasted like it had an undercooked butter-flour roux that made me feel queasy. The salad was fresh and very good. I might try it again and order something different but my husband is not as forgiving as I am so I'm not sure he would try it again because he thought the food was just ok and overpriced. Service was prompt but not particularly friendly.

Had dinner on the patio. Our server was good. It did take a long time to get our drinks. Started with a cheese plate that was good. Had short ribs and it was a nice presentation and very good. Others enjoyed the burger and a chicken plate.

We came to Tandem after a Gopher loss to the Tar Heels so maybe we were a bit salty. Here is what I gave Tandem a 4 star instead of a 5 star... What went well...restaurant is beautiful and has a great menu. The short ribs and steak for two were prepared perfectly and priced appropriately. The wine list is strong and gives you a great opportunity to pair a great wine with your entree. A couple of struggles...my gourmet hamburger ordered medium came our extremely overcooked and flavorless my fries were severely undercooked and soggy. Kitchen execution was a complete miss. My sister ordered the root vegetables and loved them but it was a very small portion for $20...it's vegetables why not give value? Our Wait Staff employee was over the top loud and casual...too casual. Her service didn't fit the ambience and style of the restaurant. When I showed her my burger she yells "why didn't you tell me earlier" like it was my fault? I reminded her it was the first time she came back to our table to check on us. Here's my overview...this restaurant has it!! Great menu and with the right execution and service and it's easily a five star!!

I visited Tandem as part of a work team lunch. The menu at lunch was simple, but still had options. I really wanted to try the deviled eggs but figured we weren't doing appz and zerts (said like Tom Haverford) so I'll have to try another time. After considering grilled cheese and tomato basil soup, curry chicken salad and a Cobb salad, I went with the Cobb. Cobbs rarely let me down, this one was next level delicious! The grilled chicken was great, the avocado and other veggies fresh and the dressing so light but flavorful. The blue cheese crumbles were some of the best I've ever had. The space is so beautiful. It isn't fancy, but also not casual. Kind of a funky chic? Lovely twinkle lights line the ceiling along with beautiful dot drop light fixtures. I absolutely want to come here at night. Their cocktail menu looks very good as well so I have many incentives to return. Our server at lunch was attentive and kind. I happened to make the reservation for our team and it was easy and included text confirmation.

We had a surprising and lovely lunch at Tandem. While they featured burgers and sandwiches on their menu, we both opted for salads. Mine was especially interesting: a smoked beets and roasted Brussels sprouts concoction that was really tasty. In fact, I now have to try smoking beets at home now, they were so good. My partner's curry chicken salad was also really good, though not quite as novel. Tandem is worth visiting if you're in Carrboro. It is in the same group of buildings as shops and the Weaver Street Market, making it very convenient. Their building is an old mill, and I love the old exposed brick, giant wooden beams and columns, and old floors. It's full of character.

Great restaurant. Laid back but with 5 star food, very creative chef. I started with the cauliflower, which was very flavorful (not easy with cauliflower) and a huge portion. My main was the short rib, which was brilliant. Great sauce, large piece of meat and incredibly tender. Service was also very friendly. Will be going back.

I was unaware there was a different menu for lunch, which is my fault. I had my mouth set on trying the risotto and lamb skewers, but I settled on the soup of the day and a burger. The soup was delicious. It was a nice savory butternut squash soup; seasoned perfectly. The burger was the blandest burger ever, which is disappointing because I paid extra to add avocado and bacon. The kitchen did prepare it to the correct temperature, but it lacked flavor, even with all of their special toppings. I had to eat it with the soup. The bun was harder than expected for a brioche bun. I'm not certain if it was getting old or how they prepared it, but whatever they did was unnecessary. The house salad that came with the burger was very tasty and a nice portion. So ultimately, the soup and the salad were better than the actual entree. The service was nice. The bartender customized a drink for me, and they were very attentive and engaging. I would return at dinner to try the aforementioned items and maybe the cheesecake. But if those are lackluster, then I don't see myself returning. Honestly, I'm not rushing to go back to try them either.

We had a wonderful time. Skyler was fantastic. He was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Food was great, and it was a very pleasant atmosphere. Would definitely go again.

Other than our burnt-tasting coffee, our lunch was fantastic. I love the beautiful space with its brick tile walls. Our server was attentive and personable. My pork ribs were excellent. A bit salty, but it was flavorful and slightly smokey. They are not your average pork ribs due to their crispiness. The potato salad was also excellent, with lots of fresh herbs and just enough mayonnaise and mustard. Lastly, the freshness of the coleslaw served as a nice finish to the dish.

Super tasty this place has an awesome menu and lots to choose from, we left full and wanted to go back again before we left town. They don't owe us anything we will be back.

What an incredible experience. I've been here several times, but this experience really solidified my love of Tandem. Really great customer service, great food. I recommend the ribeye. My fiance got the burger and absolutely loved it. Definitely check out if you're in the Chapel Hill area.

I wanted to like this restaurant, and it has a lovely patio and staff, but at the end of the day, I go out to dinner for good food and Tandem was unfortunately disappointing. We made a reservation for a Thursday night and were given the choice to sit outside or inside. We're glad we picked outside because the patio was beautiful. The servers were friendly and prompt and made recommendations. The biggest disappointment, and reason for the low rating however, was the food. This restaurant is expensive- apps range from $12-20, salads $15-20 and entrees $30-50. For the price and the atmosphere, I'd expect excellent dishes. We ordered the feta appetizer which was disappointingly small with hard stale bread and maybe 2 tbsp worth of feta. The brussel sprout and beet salad was good, but again quite small. Finally, the eggplant entree was plated beautifully but consisted mostly of crunchy couscous and sauce and little eggplant. Overall, I'd rather explore a different restaurant than give this spot a second chance and it's unfortunate because I wanted to like it.

My mom and brother were visiting from out-of-town. We knew it was graduation weekend and restaurants would be busy. We had reservations at multiple restaurants and chose Tandem because of the rather large menu and relatively affordable prices. The only menu available to view on their website was their standard dinner menu. When we arrived, we found out that there was a special menu for graduation weekend that had been considerably condensed and all prices were inflated. $30 for salad is certainly not what we had in mind. We felt misled to say the least. On top of that, servers were overworked. We were packed in like sardines on their patio and servers kept bumping into my chair all evening. None of our waters were refilled. The food was solid, but the experience was disappointing overall.

Nice food but the entree portions are minuscule. I ordered the special fish and it was smaller than a potato patty. Not worth what they charged.

Finally made it for dinner in a Saturday night. As expected, fairly busy and glad we had a reservation. Great location, relaxed, casual and food a little more than that. To start we had the mussels, pork belly and shrimp, both delicious and flavorful. The root salad best of the three we tried with tahini. The beets and brussel sprouts a runner up, the Caesar salad a disappointing third. The romaine seemed more of the outer leaves, which were a little tough, versus the tender hearts. As for entrees, we tried the cod special which was delicious with shiitake mushrooms and potatoes in a beurre blanc, and the short ribs, rich and delicate at the same time. We sampled both deserts, the chocolate pudding cake and mascarpone cheesecake, house made and yummy. Would have loved a third option and maybe we'll see one in the future. One minor complaint are the ceramic plates used, a little chunky for my taste and seemed to detract from the plating and presentation. That said, we enjoyed our experience at Tandem, and glad they are right down the road in Carrboro.

Dog friendly , Wonderful place with outdoor seating with a covered canopy, lots of tables and fresh water bowl for your dog . The service and food was excellent.

On March 2, my partner and I emailed Emma Sabouh (who according to LinkedIn is the owner of Tandem. After a few back-and-forth emails to discuss details, we agreed upon the following: The reservation would be for a party 20 /Seating: seated outdoors on the patio, or inside the lower-level common dining area, (because we had a few guests that could not walk upstairs to the private dining room, above the kitchen)/ We would confirm indoor or outdoor seating closer to the May date in case weather conditions did not permit us to sit outside/ The event was scheduled for May 13, 2023 at 4:30PM/ Tandem would offer their REGULAR menu Fast forward and on May 13 (the morning of the event) I called the restaurant to AGAIN confirm our reservations and to see about sitting indoors since there was a 60% chance of rain that evening and to notify the group that my partner's mom would be there around 4pm with decorations for the table. First, the young lady that answered the phone, who I had never spoken with, said that we couldn't sit indoors and I asked if Emma was available since I had spoken to her for the last two months (and we agreed that if the weather didn't cooperate we would move inside). After a brief pause, Emma comes to the phone and basically says we couldn't sit inside, but the decorations are fine. I said ok, because at that point it was too late to change the venue location with such a large party. That evening all 20 of our guests arrive, some from out of town, and others closer to the area. I asked my sister to text me when everyone was seated so that my partner and I could be last. That would also allow my partner to make a grand entrance (she has worked hard and deserves this moment). My sister texted me around 4:45pm and says that everyone is there, but that the menu looks different and WAYYY more expensive from what we sent via the graduation invitations. We sent the regular menu with our invitations, because that's what Emma said she would offered). As my partner and I are walking in I'm thinking to myself, WTH is going on? Emma never mentioned that the menu was going to change and she definitely didn't say it would be more expensive. Nevertheless, we arrive onsite and that's when all HELL broke loose, here's why: Emma sat everyone UPSTAIRS, in the private dining area (even after we agreed that we wouldn't be able to reserve that space because some of our guests needed special handicap accommodations. One of the guests had to leave, after she drove from an hour away because she couldn't walk upstairs. The menu was changed/reduced, and Emma never shared with us any of the 3 times we spoke (she didn't even mention it that morning when I called). The prices were marked up, tremendously! A dish that was originally $28 was $41! The 50 times that the two waitresses came into the room to serve us that evening, they saw the cake and never once said "Hey! We have a $75 cake fee if you have your own cake". If someone would've been considerate enough to inform us, we could've simply took it back out to someone's car. Instead they opted to sticker shock us and added the $75 "have your own cake" fee to our receipt. RIDICIOUS! When it was time to pay, the waiter came with one check. I ask if we could split the bill, which was over $1k and she responded, "that's going to take too long" (yea! At that point everyone was livid and I made sure to make a note to call Emma on Monday to let her know about our HORRIFIC experience. Lastly, I decided to call Emma a few days later. After speaking with her, it's pretty apparent that this establishment either lacks the appropriate leadership or perhaps they just simply don't care. What a terrible look to ruin someone's significant graduation dinner. On the call I thought Emma would be apologetic, but she simply said, "go leave a bad review". I told her that I wasn't going to write a bad review I was going to write a truthful one so that people know what to expect if they plan to make large party reservations with Tandem.

The service and ambience were 5's. The main entre I ate, on the otherhand, was a 3. The issue: I love short ribs and know them well. The short ribs I received didn't have the rib/bone in it....which I found peculiar (short rib-less??). This bothered me a little, but then I cut into the meat that had presumably been doing something for 72 hours expecting it to fall off the non-existent bone....and found the meat to be tough and fatty. My rec: if you're gonna have short ribs on the menu, buy the ones with ribs included and prepare them as advertised - 72 hours; then meat will fall off the bones and melt in your customers mouths - and my 3 will turn into a 5 - guaranteed!!!

We had an enjoyable meal at Tandem in Carrboro. This is a New American restaurant and bar located in Carr Mill Mall - same development as Harris Teeter, CVS, and Weaver Street Market. There's plenty of free parking. I recommend Tandem if you're looking for a nice meal out in an elevated, yet relaxed, atmosphere. It's an ideal date spot. Tandem opened April 8, 2016. It replaced Cafe Symmetry. The restaurant is beautiful and elegant. It's situated inside an old cotton, hosiery, and woolen mill / brick building. Inside, the dining room and bar feature exposed brick and ductwork, old hardwood floors, a large button banquette, starry lighting on the ceiling and Edison bulbs at the bar, pretty flowers, and a picturesque outdoor patio. The outside patio has sun shade sails, but is not covered from rain. At the time of writing this review, Tandem has four food menus: lunch, dinner, light fare, and brunch. I believe brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday, 10:30am-2:30pm. Here's what we got: Cocktails: * Watermelon Spritz ($11) - Libelula tequila, watermelon, lime, chartreuse, sumac-salt rim * Blue Crush ($12) - Gordon's gin, blueberry-balsamic shrub, Frenet-Branca, lemon Light Fare: * Crab Stuffed Deviled Eggs ($10) - Latta Farm Eggs, peekytoe crab * Salmon Rillette ($11) - fresh and smoked, Pernod, creme fraiche * Burger ($17) - green tomato relish, white cheddar Mornay, "extra fancy" sauce, fried shallots, brioche bun; side choice: fries * Smoked Pork Ribs ($17) - ginger glaze, herb coleslaw, smoked potato salad In short, we liked and recommend everything above but the Salmon Rillette. The rillettes looked really good, but unfortunately they didn't taste as good as they looked. The crostini looked like they had been brushed with olive oil. Sadly, they were very hard and stale. The rillette wasn't terrible, just too salty for both of us. I'm usually the first to say if I think something is too salty, rarely my wife. However, this time she agreed with me, so the rillette really must have been quite salty. All the dishes were plated and presented beautifully. The cocktails looked terrific too. Everything was photogenic. My wife liked Tandem's Crab Stuffed Deviled Eggs. An example of deviled eggs she loves are the ones at JCT. Kitchen & Bar in Atlanta. What I thought was cool about Tandem's deviled eggs is the eggs, which were described as "Latta Farm Eggs" on the menu, are local, organic eggs from nearby Latta's Egg Ranch in Hillsborough, NC. Peekytoe crabs are the same thing as rock crabs or Atlantic rock crabs. Four deviled eggs were served with our order. Tandem's burger looked amazing and it was very tasty. The patty could have been seasoned better, but the meat quality was good with rich, beefy flavor. We had the burger cooked medium and it was cooked just right. The toppings were wonderful from the zingy green tomato relish, which did a good job of balancing out the overall richness of the burger, to the creamy, luscious, and delectable Mornay sauce. Yum. The fried shallots were a nice touch too, especially texture-wise because of their crispiness. We had a choice of salad or fries to go with the burger and went with the fries. They turned out to be a yummy mountain of salted, skin-on fries with bits of parsley and a side of ketchup. Satisfying comfort food. The Smoked Pork Ribs, herb slaw, and smoked potato salad were fantastic. The ribs were meaty, seasoned well, flavorful, and tender. They came with a side of BBQ sauce, but they were so tasty on their own, they didn't need it. The herb coleslaw and smoked potato salad were true to their names. The slaw was fresh and crunchy with parsley that definitely made it taste appetizingly herby. The potato salad had a very noticeable and delicious smoky flavor to it. Well done. Both the Watermelon Spritz and Blue Crush cocktails were excellent. The latter was a recommendation from our server and I'm glad she recommended it because I wouldn't have ordered it otherwise. I saw folks at the bar enjoying their Blue Crush cocktails as well. Both drinks were well-crafted, cold, refreshing, and gratifying. Service was outstanding. Our server was Ariel and she did a great job. Ariel was really friendly and attentive. She enhanced our dining experience. Thank you, Ariel!

The food is excellent, I ordered the beet and Brussels salad which came as a hearty portion with a vinaigrette and farmers cheese. As an addition you can add a protein for those who would like more than just a salad. The wait staff was quite attentive, refilling water and drinks while not being obtrusive. The only downside was as the restaurant filled, the noise level was noticeably louder due to the high ceilings.

What a gorgeous space. The ambiance is upscale and romantic. Food is hearty with a very large range - you can get a burger or a smoked eggplant! I loved my martini- perfectly balanced. Wine list is extensive. We tried the lamb and the 72 hour short rib. Wow what an incredibly rich and unctuous experience. Highly recommend. The chocolate lava cake was ok for me but overall loved the experience.

Amazingly prepared fresh food in a relaxed atmosphere. Service was great. A must if you like farm to table food.

Always passing by it and finally got a chance to try this place!! Came here for brunch with friends on a Sunday. We had a reservation but Tandem is spacious seem to be able to accommodate lots of walk-ins. We got shakshouka, shrimp and grits, and the Mediterranean omelette. Their shrimp and grits must be the best I've had in the triangle area!! I absolutely loved it!! The portion was also generous, I had leftover for another meal the next day and it tasted just as flavorful as day 1. The omelette was pretty good too, but the portions was much smaller than shrimp and grits. I thought the shakshouka was O.K. good (but I can be particular when it comes to Moroccan dishes since I have family making authentic homemade Moroccan food often). My friends all thought the shakshouka could be served with more bread. Definitely will be back again, and look forward to trying things beyond the brunch menu.

The ambiance and food were great! We went with our kids and the staff was very accommodating. I would definitely go back for a date night or friend meet up.

Food first!!! Appetizer: Dozen raw oysters were delicious. Served a little different with a pickled sauce which was very good and a cocktail sauce. Mains: 72 hour short ribs was melt in you mouth heaven. The lamb shoulder was prepared as more of a soup, I liked it but didn't love it. Portions are hearty. They have a wonderful selection of small plates.. will be back for those! Wines: only one white sparkling on the menu but it was great with the oysters. Had an amazing Spanish red with the lamb. Wine selections here are on point, you really can't go wrong. Ambience: cool atmosphere, perfect for a date night or get together with friends. Get reservations!!! Service is 5 star. Honestly, best we've had in a long time.

Excellent Thanksgiving lunch. Very good cocktails, nice wine list,q outstanding turkey and sides, attentive service. Nice location within the old mill. We'll be back.

Was so excited to try this place tonight with my girlfriend. The ambiance is great- there is indoor and outdoor seating. We made a reservation for a Thursday at 7pm and probably didn't need to but we were seated almost immediately. The outdoor patio is perfect. The wait staff was amazing. Unfortunately, the food was just okay. The prices are pretty high for the amount- appetizers were 15 dollars on average and main plates ranged from 25-40 dollars. We split 2 appetizers and a main course and our total was 60. The feta and bread app we got was not worth it. It came with 6 small very hard and thin slices of a baguette and a dip. It was just okay at best. The Brussel sprout and beet app we got was delicious and I would order this again, but for 15ish dollars maybe not. The main dish was Japanese eggplant and it was also just ok. The overall flavor was good but wasn't a lot of food and cost around 27 dollars. Overall, we were disappointed with the amount of food we got for the price and would have to think about coming back again. Parking is easy thankfully and there were plenty of spots. My girlfriend was disappointed and reported that she's unlikely to return.

Been to Tandem several times over the years (within the first few months of it opening) and overall, I am always please with the meal and ambiance. I've dined for both brunch, lunch, and dinner, along with attending a private party for my coworker's engagement party. Every time the food was stellar, always cooked properly and plated beautifully. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that the service can be hit or miss. I've had some of the best service in the triangle, and I've also had to go up to the host to get the bill for our table because the server just kind of disappeared (this was post-pandemic so I know it was tough for restaurants hiring). If this place was cheaper, I could forgive the misses on service. For the price though, you want it perfect everytime. I'll still go back to Tandem, for sure, but maybe just ask for a more experienced server.

Chapel Hill, surprisingly, doesnt have many quality restaurants. This place is medium. Food is decent but overpriced. Nothing terrible, nothing to great. They have brunch on Sunday's which is why Im giving 4 stars. Their smashed potatoes and benedict are good. I'd choose the breakaway cafe 2 mins down the street if I wanted comparable/ better food and more friendly atmosphere. I feel like Tandem is a good place for wealthy chapel Hill divorcees that dont have much to look forward to and are ready to give up.

Fun for dinner always but this time business lunch (my go to in Carrboro). Soup and sando combo, great vibe, spot-on server.

We made reservations at Tandem to celebrate our daughter's graduation last month based on the reviews and posted menu and prices. We were quite pleased and anticipated a lovely event but booked that far in advance knowing it was both graduation weekend and mother's Day. On the morning of the event I had reason to check the website and found they were not offering their standard menu but were only offering special buffet at $80 per person. We immediately tried to canceled but were informed we would still be charged $25 per person cancellation fee ($200) for our group. In fairness there was information my wife did receive about notice of a special event from open table but there was no pricing as the information sent was truncated. We would have loved to have experienced their hospitality and food of their regular menu but not for $640 without tip. We have on multiple times requested a refund and they have refused Although we signed up for the reservation and understood the possible fee we also feel this change they made, after we made the reservation in good faith based on their online opentable menu, represents a true lack of fairness and customer service and base on that treatment I cannot recommend this establishment.

Brought my Mother and Aunt here for dinner and it was fabulous. They both said it was like having a home cooked meal! The short rib is fantastic and my aunt loved her lamb. This is a great restaurant and I absolutely will be back! Only negative is their beer prices are way too high. $9-10 for a pint of beer is a little ridiculous. Not enough to detract from the amazing food.

Hannah, our server, is who you want. She is fantastic! Atmosphere is California Casual with exposed beams. Love that ambiance. We had the Mussels. They were excellent. Followed up with Ribeye for two. Definitely worth it. Dessert as the chocolate pudding cake--AMAZING!! Five star service from Hannah and 5 star food prep. Will definitely come back!

Tandem made list of never to return to restaurants! I had made the reservations for six in honor of a friend and family member who had recently passed. A few at our table have limited palates and some food allergies. I had studied the online menu and felt sure there was a good variety for choosing. NOPE!! When we sat down (keep in mind this was a post UNC game evening so there were no other options in town). We were given the menus and thought it was missing a page! Tandem had decided to offer a VERY limited Valentine's menu for the weekend. It was not a special menu except for a $15 cocktail. Their menu was simply a very paired down version of what they normally offer (which never changes). The limited menu was not posted anywhere. The one item our person with allergies was going to order (the soup) was listed incorrectly and he was offered lobster bisque. The dinner for 5 was over $200. We had no cocktails and had mixed together some appetizers that were able to be picked through. Our waiter apologized and said other groups had opted to leave because the menu was so limited. There were no other options in town. I have written the restaurant but do not expect a reply. We will not be back for 40 years! Thankfully we have many other great options locally.

I have been to Tandem for brunch and really enjoyed it which is why I choose it for UNC graduation weekend. However, we were disappointed by the extremely high prices (the Caesar salad I had was $18 plus $14 for salmon!) and the salmon we had was served nearly raw. Our server was wonderful though and very attentive to the table's needs. The GM was also very accommodating when our party size increased a few days before the reservation.

Came here recently for a date night. Love that restaurant is in an old mill and created a really great atmosphere. They were also adhering to mask mandates and all staff had masks on. We were greeted promptly for our reservation and sad immediately. Sadly we were sat right behind the door so didn't get to experience the full beauty of the space. Would have loved to sit further into the restaurant, but what can you do. We were sat right beside the window on a very cold evening and the single pane window did not do us any favors. I was quite cold, but thankfully had my trusty hand heater ;) The service and food were exceptional. We started with the pork belly and spring and I could have licked the bowl. It was utterly delicious. I opted for the short ribs and my husband got the lamb shoulder. My serving of short ribs and vegetables was so big, definitely two meals. It was honestly one of the best meals I've had in a long time (thanks Covid). The lamb shoulder was not was my husband was expecting (more like a stew), but he did say it was good. He'd probably order something different next time. Finished with a yummy espresso martini and a chocolate puddling cake. We would absolutely come back

This place is becoming a family favorite! It has all the Sat or Sun morning coziness you need for breakfast or brunch. The chefs are incredible, and the food reflects their diverse background and interest in global cuisine. The fried chicken (bone out) eggs benedict on a biscuit is extremely flavorful, and my favorite thing to get for brunch. I sub in potatoes (seasoned with herbs and olive oil) in place of the kale/bacon salad, and the dish is mouthwatering. Their french toast is absolutely delicious, and the Shakshouka is very good, too (although on the stew part of it is more runny/thin than most. There is SO much space here including a lovely wooden back room, but it does help to make a reservation if youre going with a bigger group. I've mostly been here for brunch and once for dinner on a weeknight, and enjoyed their dinner menu as well. This is a safe choice for brunch in Chapel Hill/Carrboro! It is somewhat on the pricier end of regular meal, but you get what you pay for.
