I've been going here for years. In fact, it's my first exposure to Indian food!
So, the dining room closed down over COVID and remained so until recently. During the closure, they took the time to remodel the dining room, expand the patio and clean things up. The new space is really nice! One thing, make sure you have a reservation before going, because the dining room is pretty small, and they can't always accommodate walk-ins. Carry out orders are never a problem.
So, we started with some pakoras and papadums. The pakoras are absolutely delicious! Crispy on the outside and delicious vegies on the inside. Perfectly seasoned and not cooked too long. just great. The papadums are always wonderful, served with Mint and tamarind chutneys. They used to include an onion chutney, but I guess those days are gone. Too bad as that one was my favorite, but the mint chutney is also amazing!
I had the chicken korma and my dining partner had the chicken tikka masala. I love korma. It reminds me of the masala, but without the tomato. Really creamy, made as spicy as you want. Great stuff. The masala is the best in Toledo (in my opinion!). Love them both!
Oh, you can order any dish as spicy as you want but be careful. Indian food can be some of the hottest stuff on the planet. Probably akin to the surface temp of the sun! If you like spicy, start with medium and go up from there on your next visit. Seriously, if you're not used to it, this stuff can hurt!
So, in Toledo we have 4 Indian restaurants that I can think of. Tandoor, Indian Jewel, Star of India and Bombay. Typical of all Asian food, the final product will differ at each location. I would think the reason for this is each restaurant/cook comes from a different part of India. While the dishes are available in each province or region, there are different interpretations of the dish. If one ordered chicken korma at each place, it's going to be different. One isn't more "authentic" than the other, it's just a different interpretation. I would never call someone's dish, "inauthentic" because I've never been to India, so how would I know? For that fact, how would most of us? Folks, please stop saying things aren't authentic. They're probably just different from what your norm would be.
Anyway, we did have a reservation, the table was ready for us upon our arrival, the service was great and so was the food! WONDERFUL STAFF! Oh, don't forget the pickles and poori!!! Can't wait to go back again!
