While I’m always up to go to the International District for Vietnamese food, it’s nice to have a good Vietnamese food deli in Georgetown now. I remember when the spot was a different mini-mart, so I was pleasantly surprised to find a mini-mart with a Vietnamese deli there now. I visited on a Wednesday afternoon after having placed my order beforehand. The two guys I saw were friendly and appreciative of the business. I definitely appreciated the nice customer service. For the food, I ordered: nem nuong spring rolls, spicy garlic salmon belly, fish patty banh mi, chicken banh mi, and grilled pork chop meal. That’s barely scratching the surface when it comes to the food they offer. The spring rolls had a good mix of the lettuce, sausage, and fried wonton roll – the crunch from the fried wonton roll was really satisfying in particular. The spicy garlic salmon belly was perfectly fried – not greasy at all and the spice mix and peppers they used were excellent – I may have detected numbing mala from Sichuan peppercorns possibly? The fish patty banh mi was delicious as well with a great combination of aioli, daikon, and carrots with the fish patty slices. The grilled pork chop was very nice as well – the pork was nice and tender with a nice possibly turmeric based seasoning. The fried egg on top was excellently fried with a nice brown edge all the way around and the kimchi they gave was good as well. Overall, the food was excellent and my short interaction with the people there would definitely bring me back. I highly recommend visiting for a great Vietnamese meal in a hole-in-the-wall mini-mart.
