Tang Gourmet - Review - Paolo Sarpi - Milan - The Infatuation

"Tang Gourmet excels at two things: dumplings and a myriad of noodle dishes. Order the world-famous xiao long bao, and skip the gimmicky giant soup dumpling served with a straw—its thick, gummy dough is pure style over substance. Service is brisk and no-frills: tick boxes on a paper menu, hand it to the cashier, and your food arrives fast. Seating is either on Via Paolo Sarpi’s busy main drag beside the steaming open kitchen, or upstairs in an air-conditioned dining room that absorbs the steady crowds. If you want more than just dumplings, get the cold peanut-and-chili noodles—they’re great on a hot day and generous enough to share." - Michael Zee

Google
It WAS our favorite place in China town, with some amazing food, so delicious. We used to go there regulary for years. To our suprise, last weekend we found completele different people managing the place and working there (not sure they are even Chinese) and we were so disapointed by the food and general behavior of the employees (for example a waiter sitting on the stairs busy with his phone, not even comunicating with us or paying attention to us), the place was also not very clean, so finally we said we were never coming back. We will miss the old Tang Gourmet....

I saw a very old review on Chinese social media so we bravely ignored the 3.8 stars Google review and gave them a try today, we were hugely disappointed. As mentioned by others, the food arrived very quickly, however the dumplings abd 生煎包we got were not fresh and very doughy. We couldn't finish the dough at all. Please see the pictures of the "left over dough". The soup filled dumplings were very tasty and fresh. We have been traveling in other parts of Europe (Germany and Switzerland) for over a month, we found the food price here very affordable

One of my favorite spots in china town. Fast and efficient, you order and pay before being seated. Food comes and is very cheap. My favorite item is by far the xiaolong bao (soup dumplings). Coming here with a group of friends, ordering a big bottle of tsingtao beer each, and eating a whole bunch of dumplings is always a great time.

Google
Spicy food with average taste, since most of the products are frozen convenience products. BUT: seeing the workers in the kitchen having lit cigarettes in the mouth while working with open boxes of meat and stuff is absolutely not ok!!!! If this would be in my homecountry, i would report immediately!

The food we ordered was good and it came fast but the cashier confused our order and we had to pay for something we didn't want. I saw this happening to another couple across the room. It's weird that this establishment makes you pay before you eat. We weren't offered drinks for some reason too. Be very careful with what you order.

Absolutely terrible experience!! If you can, go to any of the thousands other restaurants next to it. For starters, they make you order at the till - fine in theory - but they hurry you and force you to make hasty decisions (if you, cashier, are in a rush, let me sit and check the menu) and if you want to order something else you have to either pay instantly to the waiter - who does not give the additional receipt - or go back to the till downstairs. The waiters are extremely rude and although you are given a table number when ordering, they sit you at random, creating confusion between them and mixing up all the orders. The food is “meh” at best and not good enough to make you gloss over the appalling customer service.

Google
Food is tasty, vegetarian-friendly. Beef soup option is excellent! Portions are huge. At the time I was there, personal didn't speak English, menu was in Italian/Chinese which made it difficult to select the appropriate dish. No regrets on coming there, just used Google translate.

We always go there when craving Chinese ! The dumplings are delicious and you must try the beef udon noodles with green bell peppers. IT’S A MUST. We ordered a bao bun with fried chicken but it was not good at all 👎🏻 The chicken was from the cotolette they sell at the supermarket ; not crunchy and not tasty at all. Not recommended. Nevertheless, we ordered a new dish they have on the menu and it is the cold noodles ; they have it on the door when you first enter. It’s also very tasty. Overall, I really recommend this place , we tried many different things and we loved it ! (Except the bao buns)

Yelp
Unfair review, based on a single item. Was looking forward to try their Sheng Jian Bao, a steamed + pan fried dumpling similar to a Xiao long BAO but bigger and meatier, with a lot of broth inside. This one was a poor rendition of a SJB, too doughy, insufficient meat filling and very little broth. A good dumpling but not a delicious one.

Yelp
Very good dim sum, with plenty of variety to choose from. We ordered 6 dim sum, 1 soup, and 1 noodle. The menu was in Italian but it had pics, very helpful. Fast service for the food to arrive. We left stuffed and definitely would recommend this place.

Yelp
I enjoyed the food overall. They speak some english, enough for you to be able to order. The food is priced pretty cheaply and comes out very quick. The drinks we ordered were probably my favorite thing here. They have several fresh fruit drinks and unique drinks that you might want to look into if you visit. The place has seating outside, inside in front of the register, and also additional seating up stairs. When you order they like you to have a table ready so you can tell them your table number, that way they know where to bring the food.

Yelp
A really cheap but great Chinese fast food in Milan. They make under your nose some of the greatest dumplings in Milano. You pay when you order, as in all fast foods, pick a table and they will almost immediately serve you. This restaurant offers great Chinese food (very tasty soups with soba), unusual Xiao Long Bao - ravioli stuffed with rice and meat- . My favorites are the grilled "house" ravioli and Shanghai's grilled ravioli. ALL super delicious! We loved it from the first moment, you can see the kitchen and nice guys making ravioli right on spot. The restaurant stands on the main street in Chinatown and it has two floors with an open kitchen. We had a great evening and really enjoyed our delicious Dim Sum! The piping hot Won Ton soup was the best I ever had.

Yelp
Right off the bat I'm giving this place only 2 stars. I want to point out the bathroom was utterly Crappy and they have a wicked ordering system. There is No waiter service instead you order from the lady, presumably the owner, who is encamped in the front entrance. After you've placed your order she gives you a table assignment and you are to find the damn table yourself. This system Invariably results in the front door being jammed full of people waiting to place their orders. I suspect the owner is either a narcissist (look how busy my restaurant is) or a mean person who enjoys tormenting people. Now about the food....we got the Assorted Dim sum, the Shrimp & veges on rice, Crepe and a bowl of Beef noodle soup. The food was a disappointment especially because the restaurant is in the heart of Chinatown. If it were located elsewhere in Milan it would be understandable for them to tweak the recipes for the Italians preference. I believe they are using spaghetti in the beef noodle soup. Like really?! What part of China/Taiwan would you find this? One star is given here for the beef which was at least tender. The broth was weak and like where is the bok choy? I've eaten loads of beef noodle soup in Asia, England and the USA and there are always bok choy in them. The plate of shrimp and veges was a joke. That's something my white girlfriend can make at home and she Can probably make it better. The second star is for the price. At least I only paid a little over €20 for this crap.

Yelp
Simple food but super duper cheap. You can get a good meal for two for around 20. Small menu but they have plenty of seasonal items. Servers are rude, uninterested in doing their jobs. Ordering is stupid, they make you order at this one single register before automatically seating you to a table, so you can't pick where you want to sit. Food comes out cold most of the time. You go here if you want to save money.

Yelp
This place has the best Chinese food since the last time I was in NYC.. The wontons in broth had a subtle flavor that made me eat more and more. The noodles with beef and green peppers was a little oily but that added to the flavor. The last thing I had was fried dumplings which is fantastic. When you make it to Milan you need to stop in Chinatown and try some of the best Chinese food I had in years.

Yelp
Terrible place! Found some plastic piece in the food. I've showed that to servant, asked for manager. He said that manager is not there and just run away. I've tried to talk to another one servant he didn't want to talk in English. Staff simple disappear, I came to cashier ask for money back and she didn't even say a word. How it is possible? Terrible place with terrible staff. Don't go there.

Yelp
Soy milk is fresh made and hot. Crepe with "youtiao" or "bocui". Server breakfast from 9-11am. Nice and neat place to have tradition Chinese breakfast. Loved it!
