"This Moroccan restaurant has been open in Charlestown — in one form or another — for 20 years. Try one of its many tagines (especially the short rib tagine or the lamb tagine), and be sure to accompany the tagine with many and various small plates. Order: Postmates" - Terrence Doyle

"In the fall of 2017, popular Charlestown Moroccan restaurant Tangierino, which had opened over 15 years earlier, rebranded itself as Madera 83 and began serving Spanish tapas. Owner Samad Naamad brought in ex-Townsman chef de cuisine Matthew Leddy to oversee the revamp, which included building a vast list of Spanish wines. It was a big change — and a big risk — for the restaurant, but it seemed to have paid off, 'getting most of the venerable Spanish tavern formula comfortingly right,' as MC Slim JB wrote in a mostly positive review for The Improper Bostonian in December 2017. But earlier this year, Naamad decided to scrap the project and quietly start all over again with Tangierino. 'It’s back and it’s better,' Naamad told Eater via email. 'We will transport you to the distant and mystical horizon of Morocco. [We’ve] created again an escape of a lifetime that will enchant and whisk you away.'" - Terrence Doyle

The service was horrible!! Trust me; I could be anything BUT a Karen. We called to be informed about the age restrictions since we're new here, and the employee on the other end of the phone was RUDE. Fella kept cutting us off while we were talking and, quote on a quote, said, "Hey! I have to go- I have a whole line in front of me." That's funny because we just passed by your place, which was empty. It seems like you don't want any customers. Like- professionalism?? It would be best if you had it; it will definitely spice up your dry business.

Contacted this business to inquire about the legal age for persons to enter this establishment since I am from another state. The person who answered the telephone was unpleasant and not helpful as he indicated that he did not have time to talk due to a line in front of him. Very rude staff. I will take my money and spend it somewhere else

Very tasty food in a calm street, very good service ! Went there for lunch outside of lunch time and I ve been welcomed warmly with some free tasty appetizers ! Food came in a fancy original typical marocain plates! Meat was cooked tender and smelled nice! Was not expecting such a good quality ! Tea and coffee are home made and comes with a variety of cookies! Keep it like this !

Not honest about the food menu over the phone, currently not serving moroccan food. Terrible service and management, we were constantly been told to order more.

Yelp
Enjoyed it, good drinks, good atmosphere and nice employees. The cigars selection is very nice for Boston, however the parking is non existent. I parked several streets away. I will be back

Yelp
Let's start with the good about this place a 2nd thought there was no good about this place. I do not enjoy roasting places but this was deserves a special place in hades. We came here on a Friday night and it was pretty much dead. The waitresses that served us was not in the best of moods to say the least. There is no ventilation and the cooling unit was not working so it was very hot which one of the people that came in stated and asked to speak to a manager regarding. We were told the place was having issues with their cooling units could not find HVAC techs to come and resolve the issue fine that is understandable given the holiday weekend. They stated they do not serve tap water and charged us $8 each for bottled water which is ridiculous. The drinks are over priced and they charge you extra to put ice in your hookah which we never asked for. They tried to over charge us for food by adding extra dishes which were removed after we disputed the charges. They also charge you when you request charcoal refills on your hookah. They also charge you for premium tobacco even though we never asked for it. Lastly when we requested a cigar menu the waitress said you can go upstairs and pick your own cigar. The cigar I had was horrible not because of the brand but because the cigar was not kept in optimal heat/cooling condition to maintain the tobacco and wrapper it pretty much broke apart 1/4 of the way and I just stopped smoking it because I was upset with the bad quality of the cigar. Not the best place to go to in my humble opinion.

Yelp
Wow how much they've changed since 2007! I walked passed the restaurant because they changed everything and made it much more exciting. Their Valentine's special dinner was marvelous I really enjoyed the mezzes, the beet salad the Bouillabaisse and the lamb shank. Honestly the Bouillabaisse was an excellent! I ate the entire thing until the soup was entirely gone. Dessert was a good bakalava with a small scoop if ice cream to make it more inviting. What was great about this restaurant was a lovely belly dancer that was making things more entertaining and of course, the cigar and hookah lounge below. I'm not a smoker but that was a good place for my husband to relax afterwards. The hookahs was in a separate section. Totally would come back here again especially of the changes. I had the sweetest server and considering it was Valentine's Day she did well with a lot customers there. When I didn't like my cocktail she replaced it with a smile. Overall, I really think this is a good place to celebrate with your girlfriend s and romantic dates.

Yelp
I'm don't hookah so for me it wasn't my thing. Thr establishment itself was nice. They have this cave in there that was lit, however I was seated right next to it while a couple was in there and it was so weird. It was like I was almost sitting in there with them. We asked to he moved but the waitress said no cause the other seats that remained unoccupied the whole time we we were there was for more than 4 ppl. Mt sister had a drink mixed with cranberry, it was strong so she asked for more cranberry juice. They charged us $2.00 for the splash of cranberry they put in her drink. Everything we asked for was denied. I was uncomfortable the whole time I was there because where we were seated. The waitress Linda then got on my sister for the smount of tip she left, but my sister mad her decision based on the service that was provided which again was not very accommodating.

Yelp
Came in, they put us too close to other people despite the COVID restrictions. Place is not organized and everything is sitting on top of each other's head. We Ordered drinks that tested like gasoline.. wanted to order something else instead.. the waitress said it's a last call all of a sudden she comes back says actually kitchen is closed . Customer service is hookah and drinks are as well. Low quality place, very old and dirty.. do not recommend at all!

Yelp
Nice enough place. The food in the above ground establishment is quite good. Going downstairs to the hookah lounge for the second time in six months is a forced endeavor is there are no other local options. Upon my descent, I am faced with the same choice I had last time: basic hookahs or premium hookahs for a pretty penny more. I chose the basic ones last time. How bad could basic be? Bad. I am going to be unusually frank (for me, in a review). Nobody should feel good about their basic tier offering being as substandard as this basic hookah offering. Its embarrassing. This time I opt for the premium hookah, having learned my lesson. The waitress assures me they are not simply offering the better option to do an upsell. Without missing a beat I tell her, smiling, "that is exactly what you're doing." Charge what you want and let the market decide, but let's be honest here. The premium hookah arrives at the table-all three of them. They are good, as good as the basic in any other hookah establishment I have ever been to.

Yelp
Worst place with absolutely the most unprofessional and extremely poor service and management. If I could give it less than one star, it would be -5. I hadn't been to the restaurant for many years when the Moroccan food and atmosphere were wonderful. Now its primarily a cigar and hookah bar. Service was beyond slow and server rude. We arrived at 10 PM for a 10:30 reservation. The entire place was empty and reeked of cigar. We were seated promptly but sat there for 2 hours and our food still had not arrived. My party was the only table occupied. When we complained to the manager, she was also rude, became frustrated, and blamed us for their poor service. It took the server an hour to bring us water. She didn't put our order into the kitchen until 11:30, just minutes before we decided to walk out. We paid for the drinks and 2 appetizers that actually arrived at our table 40 minutes after we ordered them. The menu had very few Moroccan items. Now things like chicken and waffles and Italian style dishes are on the menu. It's clear that the cigar hookah bar in the lower level is more popular and the main focus of their service. It's too bad because it use be a great place to get authentic Moroccan in an exotic atmosphere. The decor hasn't been changed and is tired. I would avoid this place if you are looking for pleasant, professional service, Moroccan food, and smoke free environment. I will NEVER go back there.

Yelp
Just wanted to write this review on the Boston Cigar and Hookah lounge . After a long delay in covid they are back up and running . The cigar shop is open every nite till midnight . The lounge serves food till 11 pm Honestly its one of the only hookah spots in Boston . I also have noticed the new management doing a great job . Its really filling up and offers valet parking. But the cigar collection is top notch . Im looking foward to some upcoming cigar events . And soon the new Grand opening of the restaurant. Lastly I wanted to add some of these reviews are rather harsh. And also represent online bullying. With this day in age its not acceptable. The place is packed and getting better every week . So obviously those reviews don't represent what I see now. Great experience Thanks

Yelp
What a joke this place is. Management or whatever they call themselves is a hot mess. This woman yelled at us along with some little guy who pretended to be manager or whatever he was. Despicable service. No customer service skills whatsoever. We got dirty glasses, hookah didn't work and we got an attitude from everyone for no reason. Definitely not coming back to this place ever again. Avoid this place by all means and spend your money elsewhere

Yelp
Ok...anybody who reads this--I PROMISE you thst you will not be disappointed! Yeah it's a bit pricey but the food, the drinks and the hospitality here is amazing!!!! I came back a second time and the remembered my name, the last dish I ordered (bone in lamb tagine) and my drink (old fashioned with woodford)!!! The food is here is Morrocan-- I come from a massive Mediterranean background, and the lamb here is probably the best I have ever had in my life. The food does take a little while because they make everything from scratch...(yes EVERYTHING!!!) but it's worth the wait! Even the ice is hand carved. I have been in working in hospitality for years and this is place is like a super chill Ritz Carlton when it comes to serving Huge shout out to Bree, Linda, Cassie and Corie!!! I'm making this place my regular hangout!

Yelp
As I am sitting here, before the bill even comes. I must say I am extremely disappointed by the changes made. I've been coming here for a while and it used to be good. Now they charge $10 for extra coal!!??? (Amongst other many ridiculous, Unnecessary charges) Are you serious? It wasn't enough to charge an arm and a leg for mediocre hookah and now you want to charge extra for coal. Shame on the new management.

Mourad K.

Yelp
Very materialistic place, expensive , I went there last night, i took water + regular double apple hookah , they cash me up 62$ , I felt like still our money with no knowledge, I did not recommend

Ted F.

Yelp
Straight up gross. Gross furniture, bad service, gross clientele. Ugly interior, loud bad music. Stay home instead!

Chris C.

Yelp
There's no ventilation, hookahs are $65, $10 for extra charcoal, and they charge 20% gratuity, avoid at all costs.

Michael A.

Yelp
Place sucks. Extreemly Overpriced. I can make better hookah at home. Very unrealistic- $10 for extra coal. Seriously??
