Tanner's Coffee - Playa Del Rey

This is a cozy & pretty coffee shop located on a small, steep, winding street. But the owners offer free 1-hour parking off the main street. The food [hot mocha and jalapeño bagel with cream cheese] was hot & delicious. The service was gracious and friendly. I will visit this business again!

Chill cafe, nothing particularly special. The food and drinks were okay. The matcha latte was very milky and didn’t have a lot of flavor– especially if you’re particular about your matcha. The Peanut Butter Mocha latte was also very milky and had very little peanut butter flavoring that I even forgot I ordered with it! The food was also mediocre. The lox lacked flavor and the bagel sandwich just tasted like bread and veggies separate but together. Limited seating all around, and street parking isn’t so difficult to find.

Stopping by for grabbing my to-go afternoon coffee and Tanner's coffee came up as highly rated one on Google map. I could see the place was pretty busy with people hanging out, working, as well as playing board games on Sunday afternoon. Plenty of street parking around were available. The venue was okay-ish, though probably more like neighborhood coffee vibe than recently hyped aesthetic ones. The barista was so nice and friendly, which was probably my highlight from this place. The Caramel Latte I went for was okay, but wouldn't call it stand out. They did have multiple non-dairy substitutes available and some munchies to grab with your drinks.

Stopped by for breakfast the other day and had a ham, egg, and cheese on a croissant which was pretty good! The latte was also great and they have a small selection of additional pastries. A great spot just to pick up a quick bite or chill and do some work - also close to the beach!

This is a welcoming coffee joint, i admit at first i thought the prices were a bit up there... but trust me the quality of the coffee and treats have far exceeded expectations conpared to its competitors. This place would give starbucks a run for their money if they went corporate. Sometimes though its best for mom and pop businesses to stay just the way they are. Anytime im in the del ray Area i will always stop here for a coffee. Flawless decor friendly staff customer service and cleanliness perfecto.

Chill vibes, delicious coffee, awesome place to sit with friends. Comfy, sunken armchairs and leather sofas make it good for relaxing; working is ok, but why work when you’re in such an awesome place?! Raspberry chai latte was hot and delicious. So many sweets and foods!

Horrible Experience with Rude and Disrespectful Staff My visit to this coffee shop was nothing short of shocking. I ordered a regular (small) Café Americano, which is listed on the menu for $3.50, and asked to substitute whole milk with oat milk. When the final price came out to $9, I politely asked why. The employee, Michael, gave me three completely inconsistent and confusing explanations: "It's an extra $4.50 for non-dairy milk" (which is absurd). "It's an extra $.50 for non-dairy milk" (which is more typical, but still didn't explain the total). "I thought you ordered two drinks" (I never did). I was left completely baffled and frustrated by the blatant inconsistency and lack of logic. It felt like he was just making up prices as he went along, which is absolutely unacceptable and shady behavior for any business. As if the price confusion wasn't bad enough, Michael then proceeded to misgender me, switching between "miss" and "mister" in a way that was both disrespectful and offensive. It was clear he was not only rude but also completely unprofessional. His actions felt discriminatory, and I was left feeling disrespected on multiple levels. The experience here was terrible. The behavior of this employee, Michael, was beyond rude--it was ignorant and disrespectful. This kind of conduct should not be tolerated, and it needs to be addressed by management. I won't be returning to this place and strongly advise others to reconsider visiting if this is how they treat their customers.

Before being published, this review underwent a number of revisions! To begin with, I've been visiting Tanners for the past fifteen years! I adore this small, rustic establishment. Which, since the restoration, is vivid in its bright white exterior all while the interior is the same! Parking: Plenty and easily accessible thankfully! The walkability to neighboring restaurants and the beach is excellent also! Ambiance: It's a cozy spot! Usually has numerous people occupying tables and chairs: working, reading, studying, so better arrive early if you want to grab a seating. It's totally a low key vibe. Everyone is in the zone! I appreciate that, especially since the environment itself is not corporate. Drinks / Beverages: Tanner (whomever he is) was impermeable to criticism; up until 2018 that is...E-V-E-R-Y ice blended drink was flawlessly balanced and smooth! Texturized with "the right amount of bite and crunch in every sip", thick, the way a frappe or ice blender should be! The multiple layers of flavors were always evenly dispersed too! Creamsicle, Machata, White Mocha, and Chocolate Mocha, ALL delicious, even the European Cocoa and Macchiato were soo on point Tanner was easily a favorite GO-TO. However... IN 2018 I experienced more than a few unbalanced and watered down drinks. Gross. 2024? I gave them 2-3 more tries to NO AVAIL. Sadly, as a near and dear friend who came out for the first time put it "it's just the local coffee shop". I was defending Tanner to the teeth for its memory was so much sweeter than its reality. Whomp Whomp. Retraining the barista? Maybe. They all have a great personality! Super sweet but idk it sort of sucks when basic drinks are not met to coffee shop standards! RIP Tanners COFFEE SHOP (not the man himself), just the shell of a building that held memories of quenching my thirst on hot summer afternoons and warming up the soul on a cold winter morning. I must find the magic elsewhere.

I have to say this is the cutest little cafe and chill vibe place to be to read a book or hang out and do some work. I had the best Turkey pesto sandwich ever it was so delicious! I was really surprised at how good it was. Service was so friendly and nice. Super windy day we ordered a chai latte and loved the time we spent there hanging out before we drove back home. Loved the music they were playing too. Happy place :)

Ordered a veggie lover's bagel and an iced latte. Fast service. Latte was good and the bagel hit the spot. Liked the flavor combo of the avocado+cream cheese+pesto. Liked the overall vibe of the cafe too (good decor and good music).

Tanner's is a familiar style of small coffee shop. Comfortable mis-matched furniture inside, with comfortable music. In addition to a full range of hot and cold drinks they have a nice menu of made-to-order sandwiches (mostly on bagels--which I tend to like!). The staff are easy-going and friendly and the service is reasonably quick (at least at noon on a Saturday). My Rise and Shine Bagel sandwich was fresh and tasty and my regular coffee was just right. They also have outdoor, sidewalk tables. One downside can be traffic noise there--since they are right in the heart of Playa del Rey. But I like the outdoor environment. Tanner's is a nice place for take-out, a light snack or meeting a friend.

Immediately welcomed with the bluest eyes Ive ever seen. And the yummiest smell of coffee and pastries. . Green egg and ham was so delicious. Hit the gspot. Ambience gives another universe, yet at the same time feels like cumming home. The luxury of thier seating gives mafia boss, and I love feeling that sense of power.

This is my go to, all time fav spot for a bagel and chai. The space is cozy but small, there is outdoor seating though. There's a parking lot next door that almost always has spots, and tanners gives 1 hour free parking. The bagels are always soft on the inside and crispy on the outside and they have some solid food options. I can't speak to this coffee cause I don't drink it but still - fav spot!

A great locals spot. Perfect for a quick pick me up before or after a morning run or surf on the beach. Service is always good and the food and smoothies aren't bad either. Don't expect anything too fancy though there's no special menu items made with camels milk or the like here just a usual menu of coffee and espresso drinks along with some breakfast food and smoothies. Still something for everyone to enjoy. The location is perfect right by the beach. Their decor is a lot of old couches and chairs super comfy but a bit thrown together and that's what's fun about it. Get a coffee and go walk on the beach.

This review is for their almond milk latte, hot. I have had drip coffee here a few times but was craving a latte today which is why we stopped. I was disappointed they were out of oatmilk because that was the exact taste I was craving but went with the almond milk. It was hot and it was a latte but I don't think this spot is good for lattes, maybe just drip coffee. Interior has always appeared very busy to me, even after their remodel. Not necessarily cluttered but never seemed welcoming or inviting. Staff is friendly though.

I sometimes stop here before I head into work but I'm not sure I'll give this place a shot again. There was a fruit fly just landing on all the bagels and pastries in the case. Gross! I ordered a blended funky monkey and the lady who made it was rude AF! When she called my name it wasn't even blended. She made it over ice. Like instead of just saying, OK I'm sorry. let me fix that for you. She gave me such an attitude. I mean, I was kind about it, no need to be rude! I don't remember her name but she had an accent.

I normally order from this restaurant. However my last order was full of onions. The whole onion on an avocado toast is horrible.

I come in for a sandwich for the beach and I was absolutely livid with my order. I got their pesto turkey- for $15 dollars I expect a solid sandwich. A 7 year old could have made me a better sandwich. small sliced bread from a bag, a measly amount of turkey and pesto that both look and taste like they got it from trader joe's. absolutely pathetic for a $15 sandwich. I won't be coming back and I want my money back. Disgusting sandwich and disgusting rip off.

Tanner's Coffee is a local corner coffee shop that offer traditional coffee, teas, smoothies, sandwiches, bagel and many more. It's located Vista Del Mar Ln and Culver blvd in Playa Del Rey, Los Angeles. The interior is warm, comfortable and full of pictures from the early days around Playa del Ray, some modern paintings and leather couches and chairs that makes a leisurely stay quite welcoming. I came here to grab a lunch sandwich and drink; I was warmly greeted by a young male staff and took my order. I ordered a Cold Brew (M) and Turkey Egg Cheese (+ tomatoes and spinach) croissant sandwich. My cold brew was smooth and refreshing while my sandwich was delightful, healthy and satisfying. This dovetails the experience that I had in this coffee shop. Prices seem reasonable for the area and match the quality of their drinks/food. Overall, I ebulliently recommend this corner coffee shop.

I live so close to this place but this is my first time I came and sat to eat something. I had a mocha with almond milk, avocado toast and a pastry that I shared it but I actually ate most of it. Nice place to seat and talk.

Really nice staff and the gluten free coffee cake muffin was excellent- not too sweet either which can often be the case. A man working there was very nice and helpful and a young woman in the morning was very kind too. I'd love for more gluten free options so i can try more- even a lettuce wrap would be great, and i'll come back to try the chocolate muffin and something to drink for sure. Also, it's adorable inside and has lots of seating indoor and out esp for a place this size..nice solace on a humid day and a great stop for some beach food or pre/post pilates nearby..

Cute spot by the beach that serves coffee and the most delicious breakfast food. We got the egg and cheese bagel and the avocado toast. After brunch you can go walk to the beach.

Best coffee in playa! The people here are so friendly, and also really nice to my dog. I was having a bad day one day, and the lady made my day completely better such a sweetheart, the service is impeccable. I've been going to playa provisions to get my coffee for years and tanners has much better coffee, quality and service. Found my new spot for life.

I ordered a very expensive coffee and it was the worst thing I have ever tasted. I asked the person who made it to add a little more sweetener. He was so busy he said yes I was out for yours and didn't have time to get more. Even after the sweetener it was beyond horrible. Another example of a business with over worked employees and not providing quality products.

Was excited to try this coffee shop based on the reviews. I ordered an iced white mocha with oatmilk and my hubby ordered a iced vanilla latte with oatmilk and WOW was it just way too overly sweet. I didn't even taste any coffee because it was pure sugar. If you're gonna give this place a try, ask for way less sweet.

Something about being by the beachside that just warrants passing mediocre food/drinks off to being the best local coffee spot. (It's the only one). The interior looks like a college bro bachelor pad that bought from their fraternity house. The pastries were served in cheap clamshell plastic (very wasteful it's 2023...) and I don't even want to go into the latte I ordered. Holy smokes. The worst I've had in a while. No exaggeration. Whatever you are doing, STOP. please I would rather drink Folgers. I think the milk they used was like candy corn melted flavored or something rank. I wanted to like this spot too since it is a short walk from my place but I can't. Service was good and that's the only reason it avoids 1 star.

Have yet to receive a fresh daily pastry!! Today I ordered a coffee and a pastry to take home had to throw the pastry out. It was so hard. It must be from Friday and today is Sunday. You need to get your pastries delivered fresh daily!!!

Laidback coffee shop in Playa that's good for a post-surf sesh. Came here on a Saturday morning around 9:30am and there was a short line, but it moved quickly. Indoor/outdoor seating is available. There's a parking lot on the side with paid parking, but if you're there for a quick stop, there is a row of spots for ~20 min free parking. Credit cards accepted. I got a hot matcha latte with oat milk and it was a bit weak, but luckily not too sweet. The cashier seemed a bit distracted so I needed to repeat my order. They do have food available (I.e, bagels, pastries, etc) as well as smoothies. The acai one is thick and well-blended. Overall, it's a relatively quick in-and-out local spot.

Rude Rude girl behind the counter... My daughter ordered a Macchiato with caramel syrup....Her response was "We are not Starbucks" Hmmm WTF obviously you are not. My daughter is young not stupid and the optionsare posted, the day before a young man helped us and she ordered the same with no issues, I didn't understand the attitude. It was uncalled for. Needless to say The coffee at Provisions was great as was the service..

Ok Tanner's team, you definitely deserve 5 stars for making my perfect morning soy cappuccino and for your beautiful smiles, however for Tanner's Coffee shop it is a 4 stars as they do lack vegan options and management would not respond on any of my concerns for some time now. Spot is indeed very cute, with amazing atmosphere, where you will meet many friendly neighbors or you can choose a private corner where you can work on your computer. But dear management, please, please, please, bring vegan pastries back. Have been going every morning, for a month now, and no vegan pastries available. This would make a perfect experience for everyone, considering that location is by the beach and pretty touristy. Let's make this a real 5 star spot, that has options for everyone. Please and thank you. Your friendly European neighbor, that loves pastries with her coffee.

Such a playa del Rey staple. All the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. I really like that they keep the coffee shop and surrounding sidewalks clean. Yeah, sure you can get coffee from anywhere, but can you get it feet away from the beach? Wow knowing what you are receiving will be made with top shelf ingredients and unrivaled care. Thank you guys for serving this area for so long.

Average coffee. Cool interior decor + vibes. Small space to quickly pick up your coffee and go. There's not much indoor seating, could probably fit only 2-3 groups of people at a time. They have wifi, but honestly not a conducive place to work because the table tops are so small. You would need to work with your laptop on your lap. ..... BUTTERFINGER MOCHA: 3/5 definition of too much of a good thing. couldn't really identify the peanut butter flavor, just tasted like an extremely sweet mocha.

So thrilled to have found this establishment. I have nothing bad to say and highly recommend stopping by. Super refreshing to see a place with charm and character on the westside.

Tanners is the perfect coffee stop, except the lattes. Great location (for those commuting north), parking next door, good breakfast options, etc. The baristas are cool, it's very local/independent spot but I can't keep buying $6-7 lattes that fall flat. Just get the drip coffee.

I ordered the avocado toast and the turkey egg bagel I have never been here before so i was so excited to try something new and let me tell you My avocado toast was extremely salty it was sooo unbearable to eat i had to toss it and the bagel had way too much lemon pepper extremely salty and the egg was so totally fake it wasn't like a pan cooked egg for the price it was totally not worth it ! Everything had way too much lemon pepper and salt i was so hungry and it was very unfortunate i did not enjoy what i paid for!!!!!!

Many years ago I went to the nearby beach with family and we came to check out this cafe after, and I've always remembered it fondly. Last month I went back to that beach again after years, and on my way back home I stopped by here once more. The cafe was just as pleasant as I remembered. Quiet, with a bit of an old school vibe. There's old articles on the history of the area framed up on the walls. They have books you can read while you hang out too. Cashier was friendly and upbeat. Had an iced matcha latte and a carrot cupcake. Latte was unsweetened but that was okay because the cupcake was pretty sweet. Will definitely come again on my next beach trip!

It was my 400pm iced coffee break and this cool corner coffee house was right by where we were hanging out. The coffee was very good and not overly sweetened and the beans they use are of good quality. The pecan dessert bar was really good and we devoured it. They offer indoor and sidewalk seating.

We were slowly making our way up the coast on Christmas day looking for anything open and saw the blinking open sign with the sight of an employee wearing a Santa hat. Being open Christmas would have been 5 stars no matter what but the coffee was great and so was the service! We got a couple of bagel sandwiches, coffee cake, a chai, and a mocha. Everything tastes great and it felt so much better supporting a local spot over McDeez or other corpo spot. The space was lively and it was fun to look at all their customer portraits. Gotta find that board when you visit!

I just watched the girl working at Tanners walk from behind the counter to pet and get licked by a customer's dog. She then walked back behind the counter and started serving customers, No hand washing.... Yuk!

Place has way more soul than a Starbucks! Check out the community corkboard! They have high ceilings and eclectic jazzy decor.

Fast service. Solid product. We found this little shop on Yelp (of course) as we like to support local whenever possible. I really enjoyed my iced latte and pastry and the bagels that were ordered in our party were also very good. Decor is rustic beach-y as they are relatively close to the coast. The constructed poster of pictures displaying regular customers speaks volumes. When the community supports an establishment, it just adds a little extra to the charm.

Just moved in around the corner and was excited to see this quaint little coffee shop. I looked forward to making it my Saturday or Sunday morning hangout or a mandatory stop on the way to a morning on the beach. Then I visited. The first trip, the staff was not just rude, they seemed bothered by me. All I ordered was a cup of coffee and it felt like I had broken some unwritten rule. Wanting to give them the benefit of doubt, I thought maybe it was just a bad day, so I returned a few days later. Same attitude. Same rudeness. Same apathy. It's a shame because the shop itself has so much personality, the location is amazing, and the coffee is actually pretty good. I love supporting small coffee houses but I refuse to pay anyone for poor customer service. I won't be back.

Really cute store! I don't understand the complaints about customer service because every time I come in I am greeted by nice young people. One of them even wrote me a list of places in LA to check out. I give it a four because it's not ideal if you're trying to focus on anything. Great ambiance but I wouldn't want someone to take me on a first date here or anything. The outdoor seating is by a busy street so any meetings on your laptop wouldn't go well. Parking can be validated for under 90 minutes and is right near by. Got the americano iced coffee... pretty damn good. nothing spectacular. my fav coffee is vesta imports in vegas.

Amazing place, not just because the coffee is the best but the staff is incredible. They make you feel like you are in your own home, very welcoming. If you have any questions at all you can ask for Tiffany and she will always take care of you with a smile. Way better than the large coffee chains (my opinion)

Not impressed honestly and I'm a huge coffee lover. I'm not sure if it was the coffee being watered down or if the milk was off? I don't want to blame the barista. I ordered a large vanilla almond milk latte and it was flavorless and I barely could taste the vanilla or the coffee which is a big shock. I'm used to tasting the flavor of the espresso in my lattes. I paid seven dollars which I know costs are going up but it was a pure disappointment as I really wanted to enjoy my morning coffee latte. Unfortunately I feel like it was a waste of $7. Does the large latte get (2) shots of espresso? Are you giving (1) or does a large need 3 shots in order to taste the coffee? I haven't been here so maybe this is just the coffee beans they use. My rating is low but I personally would give the latte a 2 star rating There is nothing appealing about the coffee flavor. I would give the coffee shop a 5 star rating based on looks and the food looks incredible. No gluten free or vegan options here

Nice set up and decent coffee. My go to is an 8 oz americano. Have to ask for the 8 oz, or they will give you a small (12 oz). Like my coffee a little stronger. The food choices include a good selection of bagel sandwiches, along with the usual pastry choices. Friendly people and a casual setup here. They do have wifi too, as well as a rewards program. Tanners coffee has to be the closest thing to heaven. My friend Eloise and I invest in an iced vanilla latte every morning AND afternoon. It is absolutely divine. Not to mention their godsends of a bagels. We get them extra toasted. Their staff are the coolest folks around. For example: Jagar and the two guys that were working on October 12, 2023. In conclusion, do it. Go to Tanners. They provide only the best.
