Ryota was my server. Kid looked like he stepped straight out of '90s Mortal Kombat. Patient, passionate, and knew the menu like the back of his hand.
It was lively on a weekday night. There's a waitlist you can write your name on--I was third and waited maybe ten minutes. The staff is friendly and organized. Everything looked clean, and although it was crowded, I didn't feel cramped or encroached upon once seated.
I ordered a lot. Sometimes I'm just in a mood and want to get the full picture of a place. I went for the rice and cheese pot, sashimi six ways, garlic steak, spicy cucumbers, burdock salad, avocado rolls, salmon spring rolls, and sake served in a bottle with a fox's face.
No, this wasn't a food-eating competition--this was genuine excitement after watching dish after dish come out of the kitchen and get devoured by the room. Families, solo diners, small groups--mostly Japanese. The food? Excellent.
My bill was a bit high, but that's on me. This is easily a spot where you could grab a beer and some beautiful fish and get out for under fifty bucks. I just happened to order like a family of eight.
I'll be back--with friends in tow.
Thanks, Tanto. In a sea of the mundane, you delivered a level of solid-to-excellent izakaya comfort I didn't even know I needed.
