TAO Downtown Nightclub

The food at the restaurant is amazing, and the prices are fair for the quality you receive. However, I'm giving a low rating due to the nightclub experience. While I was let in quickly without any issues, I observed that others were treated poorly based on their appearance. The bouncers clearly favored attractive white women and were rude and dismissive towards people of color. It's disappointing that, even in 2024, skin color still affects how customers are treated by staff who should be professional. Additionally, $40 for two shots and a $100 cover charge just to get in the place are outrageous. I do not recommend the nightclub, as there are plenty of places in the city that treat all people equally regardless of how you look, and give everyone the opportunity to enjoy their night. I will say again however, that the restaurant is excellent with great service. Highly recommend dining there.

I recently visited Tap Downtown Nightclub, expecting a fun and enjoyable night out. Unfortunately, my experience was anything but pleasant due to unnecessary aggression from the staff and physical damage to my personal items. Upon arrival, the club seemed lively and well-organized. However, the night took a turn for the worse when I encountered overly aggressive behavior from the security personnel. Rather than maintaining order, their aggressive approach created a tense and uncomfortable atmosphere. This was not only uncalled for but also intimidating for patrons who were there simply to enjoy themselves. The most distressing part of the night was when one of the bouncers physically handled my belongings, leading to significant damage. My phone was scratched, and my bag's strap was broken during an unnecessary altercation initiated by the staff. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and demonstrates a severe lack of professionalism and respect for customers. As a paying patron, I expect a safe and respectful environment. The actions of the staff at Tap Downtown Nightclub were a clear violation of this expectation. I would advise anyone considering a visit to be cautious and mindful of the potential for such negative experiences. If possible do not go at all. Overall, my night at Tap Downtown Nightclub was ruined by the unnecessary aggression of the staff and the damage to my personal items. This is not the kind of experience one hopes for, and I hope the management takes serious steps to address these issues to prevent future incidents.

$100 cover to get in and security does not even help woman that are being assaulted. They turn a blind eye to any SA that occurs and bouncers literally push and shove woman if they come up and ask for help. Hopefully legal action will be taken against select staff soon (this establishment supports employee and men SA against woman)

So, my friend and I were having a great time at TAO, enjoying dinner and all. We decided to head over to the nightclub for some more fun. But things took a crazy turn when this blonde girl with short hair suddenly shoved my friend from behind and started hurling insults. My friend didn't take it lying down, and before we knew it, security was involved – turns out she was staff! It got pretty heated, but my friend stood their ground, even though they felt totally targeted. The whole situation left them feeling shaken and unwelcome. It's really disappointing that something like that could happen in a place where people go to have a good time. My friend won't be going back anytime soon, and I'm sharing this story to let others know that this kind of behavior is not okay and can make people feel really unsafe.

After enjoying a pleasant dinner at TAO with a friend, we decided to check out the nightclub. However, our evening took an unpleasant turn when a blonde girl with short hair shoved me from behind and hurled insults. In the heat of the moment, I responded, but little did I know she was a staff member. Things escalated when she got security involved, and despite feeling targeted and threatened, I refused to give up my ID. This experience left me feeling shaken and unwelcome. It's disheartening to encounter such behavior, especially in a place meant for enjoyment. I won't be returning, and I hope others don't have to endure similar treatment. Sharing this to raise awareness that such behavior is unacceptable and can make patrons feel unsafe

They tried kicking out me and my group of women because we were tired after a long day of travel when we were sitting down. Absolutely no sense of understanding and they are very uptight. The atmosphere is ok. The security is very tight. There are better places in the city for sure.

This is a beautiful venue! I recently attended a Gala here and the atmosphere is perfect for an evening, high-end occasion.

Very rude and discriminative upon arriving. They were allowing all girls who took off their jacket in, but girls who were dressed modest were not allowed in until they open a tab for $200 each. Disgusting staff and very rude and racist. It’s crazy pack as well where people are just creep inside and don’t know what giving space means. One of the bouncers wanted a way, instead of being nice and being like excuse me to the girls he was just pushing/pulling them as if they were his property. In the moment of heat we had to push the bouncer off of the girl cuz he was extremely disrespectful towards woman and just grabbing them as he pass along as if he owns the club. Moral of the story, super expensive for Extremely toxic/disgusting atmosphere and environment along with the staff.

I should have stayed away due to the poor reviews.. but of course I thought it would be OK. I mean, it's a club, just need people, alcohol, and music, right? Me and my friend got into the club, no issues. There was a bouncer who checked ID and our bags. I asked about my medication -- I am visiting so I have all my medication in one pill bottle. He said because it was mixed, it couldn't go into the club. I told him, that's OK but I need it back -- can he hold onto it for me or would he throw it away? When I was visiting Vegas, they would throw it away and couldn't hold it, so I was OK with heading home to drop it off and coming back since it was my medication and I did need it for my trip. He told me he would hold onto it and give it back to me. He place it in his pocket. I took a photo of him and he told me to delete it. I just wanted to protect myself. FAST FORWARD, end of the night-- this bouncer was no where to be found. And this other bouncer told me this previous bouncer was MISINFORMED. They do not give back medication. I was SUPER upset and he started accusing me of being racist and drunk. I was SO CONFUSED because I was not saying anything of that sort. Yes, I was drunk but I also needed my medication and me being drunk is not a valid reason to withhold someone's medication. ABSOLUTELY a FOUL place!!!!! Dishonest, shady bouncers -- there was nothing of value if this person wanted to SELL it. No adderall, no opiates/pain killers. Just much need medication for my overactive bladder, midol, etc. I'm also from a state that does not allow for scripts to be sent OUT OF STATE so my doctor is not able to prescribe me anything. Completely insensitive -- if he was honest with me, I would have made a different decision -- but he took that decision away from me.

Came here for a holiday party. The staff were very friendly, but it was way too crowded and too loud. It took me 10 minutes just to weave through the crowd to the restroom. The is no spot in the room where a speaker isn't blasting over your head, making it almost impossible to hear anything else. Will not be coming back.

Great little spot especially on a Monday night, you won't be disappointed. The music is on point, grown and sexy vibes. The drinks are well poured, and the service is great as well. They have a variety of DJs that plays music for everyone. You will see all walks of earth which makes the place a great time.

We came here mostly for the ambience and it did not disappoint!! The food was excellent! The service was very attentive and they took care when we stated a food allergy. It really was 5 star service which I haven't seen in a restaurant in a long time!

I wouldn't return. Too crowded and service is bad. Music was good but was so crowded we couldn't even dance let alone move around.

We were running late for our reservation due to weather and we called the establishment and let us know about the 15 minute grace period which we were over by 3 minutes but they still accommodated us thankfully. The staff was friendly and easy to get ahold of and answered all my questions because we were there for a birthday dinner. Our waiter was kind and informative and attentive to all our needs. We ordered the Tao Tini and they were so delicious. The short ribs were not as tender as we expected but everything else was delectable. We will definitely be coming back because the establishment was very hip and trendy and the music playing was great and kept everyone in high spirits.

Im not sure if it was because of labor day, the time we got there, or the bouncers scheduled for the night, but this was an incredible experience at Tao downtown nightclub, and we know how these things can go! Music, vibe, and atmosphere was on point last night at tao and hopefully this can be a reoccurring experience!

"No cover on a Monday , club opens at 11:00" but tried to charge me 600$ at the door at 11:07 Please be safe out here, establishments like this must be a government owned facilities because they are not making their money through customer service. Even the 5 star ratings on here sound forced, I've spent less, handle REAL celebrity clientele and been treated better. You playing games at the door for harry, Jim and Bob to roofie me with some strobing lights!?weeirrdddd It's a dumb way to spend your money giving it to establishments who don't follow through the first and foremost point of a "luxury experience" customer service. If this is where the girls are, count me out

Terrible music, vibe is way too chill for a dance club, due to the misplaced music Nope

We had a work event here, reserved the club (under the restaurant) and a coat check upstairs, and stairs down to the check-in table. The bar was quick and generous with the pours and there was one guy who kept shoo-ing people out of the way of the waitstaff (despite the area being seating?) which was rather disruptive. Other staffers were nice, though. The passed appetizers - mixed bag. The sushi was pick up by your own hand, and nothing stood out there (salmon, spicy roll, California, etc.). Whomever picked the sushi had no appetite for better fish, just your normal grocery store stand-ins. The other appetizers included a corn soup (too salty), beef kabobs (needed to be cooked a bit less dry), satay of Chilean sea bass (this was good), and vegetable spring rolls (ok, very hot initially). The dinner was set up as a buffet line for the roughly 100 people there, and moved very slowly due to one problem - they had a non-Chinese chef at the end carving Peking duck and doing the wraps by himself, rather than two people at the station that could do it much faster. That resulted in a massive line - your food was cold before you could eat it, and that included the duck. The best dish was a soy-miso snowpea leaf stirfry that was delicious, but a lot of the dishes tasted about the same (same sauce?). So next time -- better arrangement but the general drinks + people sitting around and chatting had fun, so overall not a terrible night (the DJ was a fan of 90s/2000s pop music).

WARNING: DINING AT THE RESTAURANT DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU ENTRY INTO THE CLUB. My group and I came here for my birthday dinner and we ended up with a $300 tab. Walked over to the club, waited on the long line, only for the security guy to tell us "no one can come in, unless you have a table." ARE YOU ACTUALLY KIDDING. You couldn't have one of your other useless security guards telling people that you weren't allowing people in?!?! You made people wait in the long line to tell them???? USE YOUR TOOLS, TAO. You not only wasted my friends & my time but quite literally everyone else that was on line. They turned down EVERYONE from entering the club. Unless you had a table of course. There was literally a huge crowd of people on the block, overflowing to the sidewalk. Y'all don't waste your time. This place things they have some kinda clout. We all know the real Tao is in Vegas.

My go to nightclub! I wish they would've expand this space more. The DJs are most of the time great, they would play great remix of songs after songs that makes you not want to leave!

Let me start by saying the place is beautiful and huge..... with that being said, the food was just OK..... we have better quality food like this in Brooklyn, so I won't be heading back ..... and their so called fancy drinks are nothing special!

If I could honestly give this place zero stars I would. We left because there was some Russian or British girl throwing water on us and the bouncers didn't even do anything. Plus they wanted us to spend $500 between 4 people but how are we gonna do that when there are some girls literally throwing water on us??? It was either pay $60/person to get in or spend $500 and the tab came to almost $700. The music in the club was whack as fuck. Never coming back here.

A group (6) of us had dinner two weeks ago and it was great. Service was great. Dinner was delicious. At the end of the night (getting back to Hotel) my boyfriend noticed he lost his wallet. After backtracking I knew it had been left at TAO. I called TAO twice and spoke to the same lady who said if they find it they will call me tomorrow. No help to us.... We were flying out the next day and needed his ID. I called back at 12:30am and spoke with another lady Savannah. I explained the situation and she said she would look and put me on hold. She came back and said she had found it. Thats all it took.... was alittle looking and I am so thankful she took the time to look for us. I wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to Savannah for helping us. I called and left my name and number for her to call me back but she never did. I appreciate your help... Thank you again!

People have high expectations for a nightclub but you reach a certain age and know that places like this are overpriced & overhyped so you just gotta go with low expectations. Honestly, I had a great time here with my friends. We got in for free with no prior reservation but that's at the bouncers discretion. Inside, the space is relatively small and surrounded by tables/bottle service with people who don't look a day over 25. You'll see a couple of older folk in business suits but mostly a young crowd. Drinks at the bar are overpriced so expect to spend at least $20 per drink. Honestly, what made me enjoy my time was the dj. He was playing great songs and kept us dancing all night long. There is security allll over the place, you can't turn your head without bumping into a dude with an earpiece but they were nice to us so no complaints there. I will probably never go back since clubs are the bane of my existence but I'm glad I had a good time while there.

Please tell me how I called to see if I can make any reservations ....I didn't get any information. so I said OK. That night they told me that I had to make reservation((OMG))The guy who was out said people pay almost $1000 to get in here. OH NO... You have a better chance of just going to the bars on Amsterdam!!! Uptown & downtown !!!!!!

Came here with two other friends on a Saturday night (2 girls and 1 guy). Arrived at around 1:15am, no line but you can tell the 2 bouncers outside were definitely looking us up and down to see if we were 'fit' to enter. So we got in, and it was a nice club in the sense of: it has a cool aesthetic, an Asian Geisha girl mural on the walls; the DJ was very good and lots of bottle service around....BUT, it was so jam-packed you can hardly move! Literally you are packed like sardines in there (shoulder to shoulder). Just for this reason, I took off 2 stars, if they didn't let so many people in I would definitely rate it higher (there's a difference between 'crowded' in a good way and over-crowded).

Bouncer was clearly on a power trip. He took one look at my ID and told me it wasn't real and to step aside. He refused to look at my digital ID and laughed in my face. All other staff said he was the professional and no one else would look at my ID. When I asked why he thought it was fake he scoffed and said I would just go and change it. I've had no problems getting in anywhere else with my (to reiterate) real ID.

Fun place with B+T Faces all around. Prices were a bit on the high side. Very dark and super loud which I love, staffing was light. All to be expected with the callings of Covid 19. Overall a nice time for a club night out.

The security man literally made sure I got into the correct Lyft. Like made sure the license plate matched up before I got in. No one's ever done that for me before. My parents would be so appreciative

Traveled from Denver for a birthday celebration. Paid over 3k, club is very small and customer service was horrible. Bottle girl was hardly seen and bouncer were very aggressive and rude. Go spend your money somewhere else.

Fun place that gets soooo crowded! It was worth coming here on a Tuesday night with a promoter, we didn't have to wait on the super long line! The music was good, it was ridiculously crowded!!! It was uncomfortable to dance or walk to the bathroom because there were just too many people. The bathroom is located in such an inconvenient spot. The upstairs room is less crowded with music that's just as good. We had a good time dancing but heads up if you come here on a Tuesday night be prepared to wait in a long line! You can see the crowd in the picture!

My girls and I were in the city for the weekend and thought we'd check out Tao.. We didn't wait in any line. It was smooth getting in and paid only $20 per person (5 girls) The first half of the night was fun. Lots of hip hop and edm. The dj even played a mini tribute to Avicii which I loved. We're all dancing and having a great time.. Until things started to go slightly downhill when Crank Dat by Soulja Boy played. I was dancing to the "YOUUUUU" part and did the super man and got pushed by one of their very own bottle girls. *GASPS* The video my friend took of me clearly showed that I was not in her way at all.. but being purposely pushed for no reason was absolutely astonishing. So as any reasonable person would do, I confronted her. I have no idea what was up hers that night to cause her to continue being rude. She starts shining her mini flashlight on me to grab the bouncers attention. I continue dancing, it was basically extra strobe lights so thanks girl! Anyways, the bouncer tells me I have to leave.. and I asked him if we could talk privately so I could explain the situation. He brings me to the back.. brings other guys in.. takes a photo of my ID. Listens to my story.. escorts me out??? So in conclusion, we will not be going back to Tao. Who knows, maybe I'd get assaulted for milly rocking too close to her next time. Friendly advice: Maybe hire people that can handle the club environment not some triggered snowflake of an employee. Xoxo

First off if I could give this place 0 stars I would. My friends and I were invited by a promoter that goes by the name of damnsalz a few nights ago. we waited 20 minutes at the door freezing our asses off only to be told we couldn't go in without further explanation why. Just as we were moving, they allowed two girls waiting behind us In. It's disgusting how this club treats people who are of ethnicity and if they don't want us in their club, fine. But don't waste our time by giving us false hope. This man really put us under there impression that we would be able to go in with no problem and drink for free. I'm truly disappointed and expected better of this place.

First let me just start off by saying, I've been to Tao several times for work events and it is a stunning venue. However this review is solely based on their nightclub. I was contacted by a promoter (@danmsalz on instagram) and was told to bring as many friends as I want to his table on Oct 29th. I told him we were celebrating our friends birthday and would be happy to join him to make the night extra special. We arrived we were waiting at the VIP entrance with said promoter and he went in without my group and a group of other two girls. We waited 10 mins under the rain and I tried to get answers from security who were looking at me like I was the scum beneath their shoe. I texted our promoter who said he would be right out, however I saw him at the door and he never came out. We finally got an answer from one of the nicer guards and they told us that our promoter had overbooked the table and they were not letting us in. My friends and I started to leave when the two other girls that were also waiting for the same promoter, got let in. We approached security and ask them why they got in and not us and they told us "You should leave." They had police escort us out when all we wanted was the dignity of an answer.

I was told for the second time that I wasn't allowed in because I am Indian. I had to yell and call them out for being racist to finally be let it. Only to find out that they play the shittiest music and theres no room to dance.

Great place with bad staff and drinks. I would like to be there again, but the place is so crowed that we can't really enjoy and the fucking doorman always ask about a tax that we need to pay for him in cash to walk up. It's so up sadly. Honestly , I'll never coming back to Tao again... crowded place with a lot of boring people...

I wish I can give this place a negative star for the bad experience this club gave my friend and me. came here on my birthday but the doormen were giving me trouble because apparently, I was wearing sneakers?? I always dress nicely for clubs and wear crop top leather pants and white kicks and the doorman made fun of me because I wore sneakers due to a medical condition. they were like you have cerebral palsy and you still want to get in and dance and they laughed. Like they don't give a damn, and completely disrespect me.... I never thought Tao would be like this.... don't think I will revisit this place. the whole night the doormen were screaming and yelling at guests. why would you treat guests like this? how is this attractive?

This place has some of the rudest, most blatantly racist, and anti-LGBT security/doormen ever! We came in for a friends birthday in which they charged the men in our group $30 EACH to get in, we were heckled by the bouncers the whole time while trying to figure out how the sections there work since we apparently had one. I was ID'd twice by the same rude bouncer twice within five minutes and he brought it upon himself to yell at me to "hurry up" as i was bringing out my ID. We got all kinds of lousy stares and up downs from almost every single person that worked there all the way up into the dance floor. Once we got to our "section", it was already full of people and the complimentary drinks that were there, were halfway gone. While on the dance floor/between sections, we were heckled by security/servers constantly. I personally was grabbed inappropriately by a bouncer/server trying to "get by" (although there was room to go around me), and a friend of mine was too, which ended up with one of the guys telling off the bouncer that did it and our group getting kicked out of the club because of it. Also the music was terrible, like horrible, sounded like this was the DJ's first set. Very choppy transitions, poor music selection, and all around not the best vibe, honestly who plays an EDM version of "Bootylicious" and then chops a regular "Who's That Girl" to move it into another EDM pop remix??? What kind of nightclub nightmare is that? All in all, save your money, go to literally any other bar or nightclub available in New York city. You can't even get into this club if you dine at the restaurant, you still have to PAY to get in after eating a meal there. This club doesn't even deserve the 2 Star rating it has now, it deserves to close down.

This place was a total joke this review is based on customer service. We were advised $2500 because we had three males in our group. The doorman was beyond rude. I clearly felt discriminated with being charged a higher price!

The bouncer suggest $ 100.00 per person sentence fee, that needs to be paid in cash to the bouncer. I really hope Noah's team will read this review and realize that this is not a good way to run the business.

Amazing experience! My group and I were treated beyond great. We will for sure visit this club again and again when in NYC. It is by far the BEST!!!! I had a wonderful experience booking my VIP Table with Helya. She responded to my request immediately and ensured a very nice table for our group of 9. Kevin who woks at the front door and is super nice had put me in touch with her. My group had dinner at TAO restaurant which is adjacent to the club. It is very convenient that their restaurant has a door that connects to the club without one having to go outside. I contacted Kevin once done with dinner and he had Helya meet us and take us inside the club. Our table was situated in a great spot in their main floor downstairs. I loved that the back of the chairs have storage to put your coat or anything else that you need to store. There is space under the table to put items such as your purse, etc.. They offer an extensive bottle service menu which I found to be reasonably priced for all that their venue offers. Our hostess was Natacha who not only was beautiful on the outside but even more so in the service she provide to us. She is likable, friendly, constantly made sure that we all had drinks, had someone come by to refill the ice, made us shots, etc.. We were celebrating my husband's birthday. Helya set it up for a wonderful surprise! When the bottles came out they brought a large sign that read "Happy Birthday Alejandro" while the DJ was playing a cool birthday song! The people working at this club truly know how to make you feel like a VIP. They are very thoughtful and paid attention to so many details that ensured a memorable and unforgettable evening. This club was worth every dollar we spent. If you're looking for a trendy, sexy place that offers a great atmosphere, an awesome VIP table service, cool vibe and a very good DJ, I highly recommend this place!!!

Having experienced most of the major clubs across Meatpacking, I can say Tao Downtown Nightclub is definitely one of the under-rated and less appreciated venues. The scene and crowd really gets going after 1am and with multiple DJs spinning throughout the night, the thrill of the party never gets old. Given the front door isn't impossible to get through, the talent in the crowd might not be at a level that is expected of an elite Meatpacking club. But come prepared to shell out some serious cash. Prices for bottle service and drinks at the bar are in line with prices at other clubs across meatpacking. PS the nightclub is not attached to the restaurant for the public - only exclusive VIPs can gain access to the club through the restaurant.

So overrated. Only came here out of peer pressure for a friend's birthday. Just another annoying, dark room with loud music and drunk, vacuous people who think success is buying a $30 bottle of liquor for $300 because it has a sparkler in it shoving you around. (To those people - congrats, you're so freaking cool, everyone is soooo totally impressed by you.) $10 for each coat at coat check, which is literal highway robbery to hold a coat. The bouncers are self important and arrogant, as most bouncers are. They act like hot stuff who have power over who enters this super exclusive place (insert sarcasm) even though they all are missing half of their teeth. You'd think they'd use some of their money to fix their peeling ceilings (see picture). Go here if you are shallow and superficial and want to show off how stupid you are for wasting money here. Go here if you like to dress like you're for sale. Or you can be a decent person who donates that money to a worthy cause instead. First and last time.

I am disgusted. I ate at TAO Downtown for my 22nd birthday and my boyfriend and I had plans to go to their nightclub afterwards. We make our way to the nightclub and are immediately turned away because we didn't qualify either of their 2 requirements: 1. have a table reserved already OR 2. Open a tab with a $150 minimum. I'm sorry but WHAT. Why can't we just show up to a club to have a good time and buy however many drinks we want. Total rip off. I won't be attempting to go there again, unless it's with a promoter and everything is taken care of already, or if I'm going with a big group for an event. Even then, I wonder if it's worth it. We considered opening the tab just to go in but who knows what would happen if we didn't reach the $150 minimum. With it being just the two of us, it didn't seem likely that we would drink $150 worth of drinks Tao cancelled.

The club is beautiful and the music is excellent. But my comment here is especially for the security team that helped me when all my "friends" left me alone at 4 am with no way to get back home last Sunday. They were very kind (which is rare in this profession). Thank you guys!

What started off as a nice NYE night, ended sourly as my friend and I got kicked out for no reason. Initially, my friend and I were hanging out upstairs with VIP service and were having a good time. After ringing in the new year and enjoying much of the night, we decided to go to the lower level of the club and dance. (Although the music sucks and is truly not made for dancing, we tried to enjoy our time since we dropped some major $ for NYE). After heading downstairs, we attempted to start dancing but were quickly told to move to the side as some glass was broken on the floor--okay, no problem. As they were cleaning up, a bottle service girl with a short blonde bob hair cut pushes past me and causing my glass of water to spill on her shoulder and my hand. She looks back me with disgust, rolls her eyes, and continued to look at me with a glare like she wanted to hurl insults at me. I responded with a confused look, told her she bumped into me, and brushed it off since it wasn't a big deal. A.) it's a packed club on NYE so you can expect to bump into people-possibly causing drinks to spill, B.) I'm trying to enjoy my time and party since it's officially the New Year, and C.) YOU bumped into ME. With all of those factors, you'd expect someone to have common sense and just mosey on with their life and enjoy the night. Well not this bottle girl. I guess she was upset that I didn't apologize to her nor crawl on my knees begging her to forgive me, so she started to engage me with an attitude. Look sis, I'm not here for it and you're not going to cloud my sunshine. Not satisfied with my reaction, she interacts with the cleaning guy and a bouncer, and shortly after we were escorted out. When asked what was the reason for being escorted out, the bouncer replied that we were knocking tables over and breaking glass (what a convenient story). This was completely untrue. My friend and I knew it, and the bouncer probably knew it was BS story as well. After reading multiple 1 star reviews on Yelp lets me know that this is the normal behavior of the nightclub. It's sad that the bottle girl felt so slighted that she felt the need to kick someone out because they didn't bow down to her egotistical demands. I have no qualms about Tao's restaurant, as I've always enjoyed my dining experience with them. HOWEVER, with regards to the nightclub, I definitely would NOT RECOMMEND COMING HERE!!!!

Tao used to be professional & accommodating to people who wanted to have a good time but not anymore. I was invited by the promoters to stop by. Me & my friend had hopes to buy a bottle & check Tao out again after covid. However, they need to get rid of these egotistic, sexist, power trip security guards. This one security with yellow dyed hair scans my ID ( a valid driver license ) turns green and he uses the flashlight to keep checking if my ID is real. He bends it back and forth almost cracking my ID in half. I literally bartend in a club in nyc on 21st & im 24yrs old... I know what is an acceptable form of ID to get in a club/drink & if it was fake why would the scanner beep green instead of red and why would the flashlight indicate the hidden features of a real card if it was fake. He shows the other security w a mustache and a tattoo & he doesn't look at it, doesn't scan it, doesn't do anything & says it's not a form of a valid ID. ITS A DRIVER LICENSE WITH MY FACE & BIRTHDAY ON IT. Then proceeds to get really disrespectful not even towards me but towards the women standing in line waiting for their ID to scan. He's literally screaming at them to wait when they were actually just deadass standing there not even saying a word. How can Tao hire a bunch of power hungry idiots who can't differentiate between a real ID and a fake one. How can they hire grown men who yell at girls half their age? Me being in the same industry, it's not acceptable what I went through last night. Now tao lost long time customers & bottle sales. Watch out for these rude bullies they call security.

The RUDEST experience I've ever had!!!! First, when I entered, they took my LIFE SAVING allergy medication away from me claiming it "wasn't allowed". The bouncer literally said "bye" to me and waved his hand. I asked if they could keep it safe for me until I leave but they said no until one person finally agreed. When I left and tried to get it back, they tried to make me PAY for my OWN medication. After trying to contact the unreachable manager for 35 minutes, the bouncer finally decided to "be nice" and give it back to me. I'm pretty sure they emptied it a bit as well because it's only half full while there was much more when I entered. Also the music sucked. Never coming back here. Warning: to anyone with any sort of need for medicines, DO NOT COME HERE. They will take it away from you and then try and make you pay to get it back!! It is a scam and they abuse their power!! We were treated like animals, groveling and pleading for our case. Every single person was just so incredibly rude to us and treated us like absolute shit. Only giving 1 star because 0 isn't an option. Save yourself and never come here.

About Tao Downtown Nightclub: Let me start off by saying how horrible The bar service was. It was a friends outting for a birthday and we went to the bar to grab some drinks. Mind you, we're a very diverse colored lgbtq group. My bffs girlfriend asked for a stella and he said they didn't have any when we saw right behind him in the fridge. He then replied.. "oh" .. he was not helpful and did not offer us drink options. He just stood there awkwardly. He definitely treated us very differently because of how we look!! This is NOT how you treat a customer. We brushed it off and we just ordered Whatever drinks and went on to dance. Later on I went by the bar to get some more drinks for my friends because they felt uncomfortable. I was being ignored by the other bartender. Caucasian shorter male, I tried grabbing his attention and he snapped at me! He was very disgustingly rude, I tried to get service by the other bartender and I saw they both communicated to not serve me. Mind you I was not doing anything wrong to have this happen to me. I got threatened to be kicked out by a bar back because I wanted to know what was the issue. I finally got a hold of the manager... The lounge is clearly very loud with music so communication was difficult on both ends. The manager had told me To stop yelling -__- when I was not. I was trying to discuss the situation and even asked if we can speak somewhere that is conversation friendly. Of course he was very condescending to me because I am a female. My best friend stepped in and spoke to him. She felt disrespected, she told him that the bartenders were treating her and her girlfriend differently because of their looks! The manager responded "that's just how life is, you either accept it or you don't". Now what type of management is this? He gave 2 complimentary drinks to make it all better but it did not help the issue! Tao is this how you run your business??? We felt discriminated against and it is not okay!! All in all..I give Zero stars, to the staff and management.

The restaurant itself is beautiful. I bartend in the area and just kind of walked in after a long shift not knowing what to expect sat at the sushi bar, they chefs there didn't even serve me I had a server who was kind of off putting like he didn't want to serve me, I ordered a sparkling and a beer and a sushi roll. The lobster roll was flavorless and underwhelming sat for about fifteen minutes after eating with out a sign of my server at this point I wanted to leave but was starving so when he finally did show up I ordered the Hong Kong noodles they were not good, the only time my server really talked to me was when it was time to pay and tip. The entire experience was underwhelming, could have taken my 88 dollar dinner to Juban. Where the service is great and the food is amazing.

This atmosphere, vibe and food were great. Once you enter the main hall it was spectacular, the decor the art work was wonderful to look at. Every one was friendly, the server was attentive, food came out at a reasonable time frame, we didn't have to wait for much. The decor in the dinning room was amazing to look at, the statue up front, changes designs. This is definitely a hot spot. 5 stars straight across the board

3 ladies trying to enjoy a night a tao. Horrible service from the 4 bouncers that stood there at the front door/rope and let more than two groups go in front of us, who one paid over 100$ to get in and the other that paid 0$ and turned out to be 17 and under. Not only that there were people standing at the entrance asking for hundreds of dollars and claiming not to leave until they got a quota for the night, it was very uncomfortable as we stood there awkwardly looking at the bouncer with no help or reason why we couldn't enter for over 10 min, we decided to just go to another bar/club that we had a much better time at.
