We tried the happy hour, when you can have cheap bites and drinks. The environment is very elegant and the light is soft. The place is divided into two, a very large part full of tables for regular dinner, a quiet bar for happy hour. The dishes are refined, the portions obviously a bit small. The drinks are good. When you arrive, they will ask you to take your credit card: it's a normal practice that I don't really appreciate anyway anywhere. Recommended to do something chic in an unusual setting! I’ve been wanting to try TAO Downtown for the longest time. Now that I have went here for my birthday, I can happily say that my experience was overall wonderful! It’s the perfect place to celebrate any occasion and is great for a girls night out. The highlights were definitely the Dim Sum Dumpling Platter, Lychee Martini, Barbecue Duck Fried Rice, and the Giant Fortune Cookie. The only thing that could’ve been better was the time when we were seated. I booked a reservation for 9 and was seated at 9:25. Other than that, the waiter was very attentive and overall service was friendly. What’s really convenient about this restaurant is that they also have a club that is also such a vibe. The ambiance for both the restaurant and club is absolutely stunning. I 100% would recommend this place to anyone I know!

Tao Downtown offers an incredible dining experience that combines an enchanting atmosphere with fantastic cuisine. The location is nothing short of stunning, creating a vibrant backdrop for a memorable night out. The highlight for me was the live music, skillfully delivered by an excellent DJ, which added a fantastic energy to the evening. The restaurant was bustling with a beautifully diverse crowd, radiating positive vibes that enhanced the overall experience. I particularly appreciated the attentive service; the staff was prompt and made sure we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. It's worth noting that while the prices are on the higher side, they align well with the overall experience offered. For a night filled with great food, lively entertainment, and a stylish atmosphere, Tao Downtown is well worth the visit.

Even though the service is not the best, i like the atmosphere and food. My friend ordered their rice with pork - they brought the noodles with pork; when i nicely asked to switch, the waitress started arguing and roughly proving her point that my friend ordered noodles. She said that they will not “remake” the dish, so I just asked to cancel. In the end of the day they canceled the order and removed it from our check. But I just don’t get the point of arguing so much (because I was extra nice to the waitress). I still like the food, it’s always delicious, but on different days of the week for some reason the size of the same dish may vary. Not drastically, but visibly you can tell. Might be because the chef was different. If you’re dining with a big company, I highly suggest asking NOT to seat you at a round table. TAO is very loud, so you will not hear each other at all. The table is large and round, so unfortunately it was not possible to enjoy the conversation. Do order their fortune dessert, if dining with a company, comes with numerous types of desserts, ice creams, lava cake, and more

I must say this place is extremely nice. The vibe and atmosphere of this spot is insane. Our waiter was extremely patient and nice when he was explaining how things worked and what he recommended so props to him! So during happy hour, the bartender wasn’t too friendly which was unfortunate when I was just waiting around for my group of people to arrive. Don’t get me wrong, the food was great. However, it did not wow me. The Asian cuisine overall was good but for the quality I can definitely get that somewhere else for half of the price. But hey we’re paying for the experience, service and all the other factors. First time here and I would recommend coming to experience everything they offer. If you’ve been here before, I wouldn’t recommend so much. All in all, had a great time! 9/10

We went to Tao on December 24. Unfortunately, I don't remember the waitress's name, but she was incredible! She took orders quickly and patiently waited for us to decide (even though there were 15 of us). I also ordered some takeaway food, but asked her to cook it at the end of the evening and bring it out when we were leaving. The waitress remembered this and did everything as I asked, I really appreciated it. The only thing is that we weren't very happy with the communication with the hostess, but this place is definitely worth a visit. The food is delicious, I recommend trying the shrimp rolls!

My boyfriend and I were celebrating our 6 year anniversary and he decided to bring me to TAO. This was our first time and honestly it was amazing, from the ambiance to the food! The restaurant when you walk in gives you a kind of breathe taking walk in. The food was absolutely AMAZING !!! From our appetizers to the dessert service was great. They even gave us a card wishing us a happy anniversary. The drinks were great and had a smooth taste to them. The service was very quick and effective, everyone working just wants things to run smooth, but they could be a bit more friendly. Other than that it was all in all a great time. Thank you TAO for the experience we will be back again!

I was very excited to try this place & it did not disappoint. Everything we had was OUTSTANDING! We ordered the crispy Sebas in curry sauce (PHENOMENAL). The triple pork fried rice (INSANE) & the BBQ spare ribs were out of this world. Cooked to perfection 😍 For dessert we had the molten lava cake & the mandarin dessert & everything was excellent. The environment & music were great, definitely going back.

The best dark vibes and moody ambiance in downtown manhattan! While it is not cheap, the food, drinks, and ambiance are all high quality and unique. The decor is truly inspiring and has a dark and seductive feel. The service can be hit or miss, based on how busy they are. Honestly. The only thing that my wife and I enjoyed was the atmosphere. The Food was awful and super expensive, the drinks were more ice than cocktail and the one entre we were looking forward too, the waiter told us they ran out of it. The music was so loud, I couldn't hear anything my wife was saying and I'm in my 30's and still had to use the flashlight on my phone to read the menu. As a born and raised New Yorker, I feel super foolish that I hadn't realized that Tao is a tourist trap.

Great location for a special occasion dinner. Love that there is a waiting area with cushion seating before you get seated. The food was delicious and not your typical Chinese take out flavors. The cooks were not afraid to apply the appropriate seasoning and heat to the dishes. Drinks were 10/10, there was also special rooms for private dinner dining seating up to 20 guests on the second floor. Expect to spend a little extra money as this is NYC and you're paying for the beautifully modern-asian decor. Restrooms also were attended with a staff and have seatings available to rest your feet.

Came here for the lucky hour around 6pm and the lounge and bar area was already very busy. We were able to find a lounge seat in the back corner. We got each food item on the lucky hour menu except the chilled edamame. Everything just tasted okay, nothing stood out and the portions were really small even for $7. The spicy tuna tartare on crispy rice , Bangkok shrimp, and lobster wonton only came with three (3) pieces each. I think the ones that are most worth it based on portion size may be the chicken wings for $1 each and the crispy Thai spiced chicken. There was very little seasoning in the crispy chicken however so it tasted kind of meh. We also got a TAO-tini which again just tasted alright. For dessert, we got a potted carrot cake off their regular menu. The presentation of the dish was very nice and I enjoyed the tiny carrots that came with it. The pot is actually edible and made of white chocolate. The cake itself was good. However, I do think it was overpriced at $22. It is very dim inside the restaurant and my eyes still hadn't adjusted at the end of my time here lol. There was plenty of room in the dining room and the terraced layout is unique. It was very hard to get the servers attention and they only had one person taking orders but lots of people taking dishes away. I don't think I'll come back anytime soon.

The food is ok but I would not recommend this location. The bartender has been coughing and not covering her mouth. I have watched her cough over 3 different drinks she has made. Very sweet and attentive but I was still a bit grossed out nonetheless. I definitely won't be coming back. I would recommend Brooklyn Chop house instead.

A friend invited me to happy hour at this space and we had a great time. The main thing here is ambience 100%. It's an absolutely gorgeous space, but be ready for the crowds. Also, also, there's some pretty good selections on the small bites menu. The wings were the best deal. But the drinks were not what I expected. Most were flavourful but they weren't very strong. I'd go again, but not on a Friday.

I went there for happy hour 5pm-7pm with a girlfriend of mine. We enjoyed the service, food, ambiance, and drinks. The best drinks were the lychee martini and the Tao Tini. We didn't favor the Bali Beach Club, as much - it was a light grapefruit flavor drink. We ordered all of the food options. I enjoyed the Bangkok Shrimp (Tempura) the most and she enjoyed the crispy spiced Thai chicken the most. The lobster wontons were also good but I felt that one order was enough to taste. Tuna tarte was good too. The bottom part was a bit harder to crunch on. But not impossible to eat. The $1 bucket chicken was actually $1 per wing. We thought it was $1 for the whole bucket but it wasn't. It was very good too. One bucket is $7. You have to order 7 minimum. It has a soy taste. It's great to go with a date or friend. It has a dark ambiance inside. Bartenders are friendly. I loved Lucky Hour. I will probably go again.

So I came here for a birthday celebration and everything was so good. From the hostess to the food to the service to the music. I looked at the menu before hand so I knew exactly what I wanted to eat. The triple pork fried rice was amazing. OH and the serving sizes were amazing. It was enough for 2 people but I took mine home lol. I had a lychee martini and it was sooooo good. I may go back just for happy hour and drink those. I'll definitely be back.

I made an OpenTable reservation with the request to sit at the bar/lounge for to enjoy happy hour deals, but apparently reservations are only for the main dining area for which you can't do happy hour. Therefore, my party and I had to wait in the waiting area, which does not receive service from waiters, BUT you are allowed to go to the bar yourself and order food/drinks. Despite being a Monday night, this place was packed with long wait times to be seated at the lounge, receive service from a waiter, and receive our orders. Food came in small portions as expected of happy hour, but quality felt underwhelming along with the underwhelming experience we were already having. Wouldn't come back again, even to try the main dining food/area.

My first time here was almost 4 years ago and I was pretty excited to return. It is quite expensive but the food was just as delicious! I came here for my friend's birthday dinner and had a lot of fun. The staff were great and the diners also had such a great vibe! My one little tidbit would be to have more upbeat music. In the beginning of our dinner, the music was sort of sad and mellow. I don't quite remember all of the food as we spent so much time just eating and chatting however, there wasn't a dish that I didn't enjoy to be honest. I enjoyed the drinks as well, and would definitely recommend their lychee shots! Although it is more on the pricier side, it's a place I would love to dine at again!

Tao have such a beautiful scenery. Upon walking in you pull a chamber looking door to enter. You walk down this beautiful pathway that's dark but lighten by soft lights. You are greeted by hostess who check your reservation. We went to the bar to grab a drink while we wait to be seated. Bartender was excellent and master patience. We was finally greeted by our lovely host who seated us in the front of the restaurant. Amazing view. Thank you We then order our food. And it was so delicious and full-fling.

When you visit a place once and it's great , that's fine. When it happens again and again, it's a sign of excellence. Such is the case with TAO Downtown. Super tasty food, Exciting cocktails but the service was something else! We invited 10 people to a super VIP dinner in one of the Skyboxes. 18 arrived, all at once. Without a word from us, the table was instantly doubled in size, the amount of food was doubled and the staff, and the staff provided everything else necessary to turn what could have been a disaster to a resounding success. Try TAO - It's seriously fantastic.

My fiancé and I decided to stop by Tao for a quick snack, mainly because we had heard such great things about it and wanted to experience it for ourselves. Although we weren't that hungry, the ambience and vibes drew us in immediately. The atmosphere is amazing--energetic and vibrant, with loud music setting a lively tone. While it might be a bit challenging for larger groups to hear each other, it was perfect for the two of us. The service was absolutely top-notch. Our server Michael was incredibly attentive and took the time to go through the entire menu with us, even though we ended up ordering just one dish (we had already eaten elsewhere). Despite our light order, he treated us with the utmost kindness and professionalism, ensuring we had everything we needed. We decided on the triple pork fried rice, and it did not disappoint. The flavors were fantastic, and it was cooked to perfection. Every bite was a delight, and we could easily see why this place has such a great reputation. Overall, we had a wonderful time at Tao. I highly recommend it, especially if you're looking for a place with a great vibe and excellent service. We're definitely planning to come back, hopefully on an empty stomach, so we can try more of their delicious offerings. Five stars!

Came to Tao to have dinner for the first time Sunday evening and I was beyond impressed, such a beautiful restaurant. We started at the upstairs bar where the bartender Nikola (I hope I spelled his name correctly) made us the sun phoenix and an old fashioned both 10/10. He really started us out right. I will say the same drinks we ordered when we made it downstairs didn't taste nearly the same as Nikolas. We couldn't wait to finish our food and run right back upstairs. We will definitely be back. Tuna tartare on crispy rice 9/10 Chicken Gyoza 8/10 Waygu Ribeye 15/10. Highly recommend. Branzino 10/10. Excellent.

Went for dinner after my Graduation ceremony. The place is beautiful! Great to take pictures. Ambiance is pretty cool, a little dark but it's romantic. we had a weird end table which was fine. The waitress had no personality and didn't recommend anything. I had another waiter knock my hair clip out of head and messed up my hair and he didn't apologize or better yet I don't even think he noticed he did even after me looking straight at him telling him what he did. We ordered egg rolls to start and they were very yummy a little big so deff shareable. We also got the orange chicken that was good and the filet mignon was good the sauce was okay. They also cut ur steak for u and don't give u a steak knife which takes away from the fancy feel. Funny because as we sat there and looked around the crowd there was very young early 20s. We also got rice and noodles and they were good too

If I could give them zero I would. I have been a few different TAO locations which is the only reason we even thought about visiting this one while on vacation in New York but when I say that our server was the absolute worse I've ever encounter in my life, it's not an exaggeration. A restaurant at this price range should have no issues with service or food quality. Our server was so rude, she never introduced her self, not once did she checked on us or refilled our drinks. We had to flag her down to order our food and when we ordered our appetizers she said we had to order our entrées as well, which wasn't a problem except that some our main dishes showed up before the appetizers. She brought 2 dishes that we hadn't order and one of the main dishes had shrimp instead of chicken which is a huge deal when so many people are allergic to seafood. The waitress literally stood there trying to argue and we are the ones that order it wrong and that the dish was fine. Of course that wasn't the end of her horrible service, she literally shoved our hands off the table so that she could place the plates. We had to continue to order our drinks because no one would come to refilled them. There is zero excuse for that kind of service! The food was excellent and even the men cleaning our table were more polite than the waitress. Based on this one experience I will never be visiting this establishment again. I rather spend that kind of money anywhere else where we won't be treated like peasants.

Walking into the restaurant and the decor and ambiance was beautiful. I loved the dining area and the way it was set up. However, our reservation was for 10 and we were finally seated at 11. In my opinion, the wait was worth it. The food was absolutely delicious. We got the Crispy Orange Chicken, Triple Pork Fried Rice, and the Vegetable Lo Mein with chicken. It was so good. I didn't want to put my fork down. I would recommend this place to everyone I know!! Definitely worth the money

Birthday dinner at Tao was awesome. We were seated in a "private section" where the table could spin/rotate around and food could be shared. Multiple plates of food were ordered: lobster fried rice, lobster pad thai, CRISPY SNAPPER IN "SAND, BEEF MONGOLIAN, and CRISPY ORANGE CHICKEN are to name a few. The Lychee martini was good. The service was good also. Great for some photo ops, date night, and birthday celebrations.

We wanted a restaurant with a vibe, and this was definitely the place. Between the club music, the beautiful people, and the Buddha constantly changing colors, us vibe seekers were not disappointed. The food was quite excellent too. Nine of us shared so many dishes and I couldn't even begin to name them, but they were all great. I might recommend though staying away from the beef with broccoli which wasn't bad, but it was nothing special and it wasn't such a big portion to share. Very pleasant greeting at the door in our server was terrific.

Decided to go here for my birthday. It was the 3 of us! I've heard about TAO for some time now but never made the attempt to go until now. I would say I absolutely loved it. The food, the drinks, the service was amazing. We got in around 10pm and it was full and lively. I didn't realize it was this popular. I still can't get over the Wagyu. I will definitely come back. I would say is good for groups but not for an intimate moment with you and your partner. It's pretty loud but not too bad.

So... we had a film in Tribeca. The post party drunkenly decided that Tao on 9th would make for a fine dinner for 15 or so at midnight. The venue was packed when we got there... we waited a half hour for our table. It's an amazing venue. A huge carved out basement with lots of major statuary and lights installations. Like a place fashionable assassins might hang out in in a John Wick film, except it was loaded with notable rappers. As a 62 year old white guy, I get mistaken for famous rappers regularly, so I can relate why they like it. Food was adequate to really good, depending on the dish. Peking Duck was outstanding!

My experience at Tao exceeded my expectations! I've only gone to the nightclub, never the restaurant, and when a colleague recommended we got to Tao for dinner, I said why not! We were able to get reservations day of on a Monday evening. I absolutely loved the entrance and was blown away by seeing the space in person. It just vibes sexy, intriguing, and truly was just so cool. The music was a mix of r&b, hip hop. We got seated at a booth and the waitress was very kind to go over everything with us + answer our questions! We ordered the dim sum platter, all of which were tasty especially the vegetarian one! We also got the scallop/shrimp egg rolls. These I'd pass on next time b/c they lacked flavor and I've had better egg rolls else where. I also got the tempura shrimp sushi roll, which was tasty, but pretty straightforward! The reason why I dock a star is because of the prices and how you can get a bit more flavorful food elsewhere. Still, it was such a fun experience and I have no regrets!

I saw that this was a cool spot to celebrate your birthday so I decided to celebrate my 42nd birthday with my friend. I love the aesthetics of this place. There were a lot of spots you can take nice pictures at. The restaurant is huge with dim lighting and great music. My friend and I shared an appetizer and we got the Lobster and Shrimp Spring Rolls with a spicy pineapple sauce with a glass of Amaretto Sour for starters. We both ordered the Lobster Drunken Pad Thai and washed it down with a glass of Bubbles & Berries. As we sat there, enjoying our appetizer I finished my half and was enjoying my drink, while my friend was enjoying the last bite of the appetizer and in a blink of an eye, one of the cleanup crew came to take away the appetizer plate, but my friend wasn't done yet, and my friend had to stop him from taking away the plate so that was pretty rude on their end. We have also noticed that normally when you go to a restaurant, the waiters will come around constantly to refill your glass with water. At this restaurant it took them a year and a day to refill our glass just once which we didn't like. Another thing that we didn't like was that while I was taking pictures as I always do at every restaurant, I had my small ring light to capture the photos beautifully and I was told I can't use my ring light it's not allowed. I thought that was foolishness, because when I looked around the people who didn't have a ring light, was using the flash on their phone to take the pictures and there were people using the flash on their phone to read the menu because of how dim the setting is at the restaurant, so it didn't make any sense to me. All in all the food was delicious and the drinks were great. My birthday cake was decadent. and the music was bumping. I do recommend the place just keep in mind of all the things listed above. I wasn't a huge fan of the salmon since I couldn't really taste the honey glaze but the texture and everything was good. The service was good the waiter was on it. The vibe and the music was great it was hard to read the menu because of the lighting but that's not a big deal. Also the drink was okay to me I definitely should've gotten something else. It is a nice date night spot it is on the pricey side my bill was $220 and tipped $30 so in total $250

We asked if we could get in with a small service dog and the manager allowed us. In the middle of the meal security told us mngt wanted us to leave. We understood that some may have complained so we said ok and I paid my 250$ and on the way out this security guy kept insulting us with our mothers!! Yess this happened. I always like the place but there is a clear management problem and very unprofessional. This security man (didn't want to tell us his name not written on badge) was extremely rude and kept on insulting us. Pls check the footage of the lounge on the right of the entrance on Sunday Dec 1st 6:33pm till 6;45) till the exit he was insulting me and my friend.

We had a company dinner where we had a fixed menu. Food was delicious! My favorites were the orange chicken and the Mongolian beef. Oh, and the old fashion was on point!! The place inside is beautiful! It's amazing how they were able to use the space. 100% recommended.

On our trip to NY at Christmas, we decided to give this restaurant a try. We couldn't get a reservation last minute but we were able to hang out in the bar area on very comfortable couches and ordered our food. We had several drinks, though delicious, we just couldn't taste the alcohol, and the cocktails are pretty pricey so that was a little disappointing. Now on to the food, which was delicious, we had the lobster roll, chicken gyoza, seafood dumplings, fried rice and seafood pad thai, so tasty. I would say that if you plan to eat and drink here, you will enjoy it but make sure your wallet can handle it.

Fabulous dining experience at TAO Downtown which I prefer that Uptown which is not as lively and entertaining. Kudos to the restaurant for accommodating my late arrival due to a late work event. The venue is absolutely spectacular and reminds me of Buddha Bar Paris! The decor is spectacular and truly took me back to Thailand where I spent 3 weeks on my honeymoon. I was seated comfortably with my gf and had an absolutely delicious mezcal spicy cocktail that truly set my tone and palette for the evening! For dinner I had a noodle dish which was absolutely 5 star delicious!! My gf also had a boodle dish and ate evey single morcel on her plate. Highly recommend TAO when in NYC for a fantastic evening and delicious asian fusion cuisine.

Although Tao is on the pricier side, you do get what you paid for with good portion sizes. Since I sat at the bar the service was great and the waiters were very attentive. I really enjoy the sushi here and haven't experienced a bad meal , also love the atmosphere even just for drinks with friends.

A oldie but goodie I would say. Tao has definitely sustained their reputation throughout the years. Surviving covid and the economy speaks for itself. This location is huge and the aesthetics and vibe are well worth it. Great for a birthday dinner or a date night. The service is awesome, guaranteed to be served in a timely matter. The food is always good and good servings. The only thing I would say is the rice should be a bit more moist because it was dry. Overall still a top notch choice in nyc.

Wow. You really don't know an eating experience until you visit Tao. They recommend family style and I could see why. There's just so many good choices and everything is cooked perfectly. I was with a group of 8 which made it easier to get a bunch of different dishes to try. My favorites were the bao buns, taretare and ofcourse the duck. There's not much more to say. It's a 5 star restaurant with 5 star food

I came here for an event and it is a great venue space! There is an upscale vibe and I enjoyed the music and hors d'oeuvre that were served! The DJ was a tad bit too loud and I lost my voice by the end of it! The service was incredible, especially the bar tender! People were coming at her for so many drinks and she was incredible and so kind! The main meal that was services was a bit bland and by the time we reached the front a lot of the food was gone and wasn't refilled quickly! But overall, a fun vibe

I always go to the uptown location & loved it . I came to the downtown location for my friend's birthday dinner . This location is huge , beautiful and a vibe . The food was amazing & so was the music . I had the rock shrimp Lettuce wrap as an appetizer which was good . I had the salmon , & lobster fried rice as an entree & side . The Lobster fried rice was a bit spicy; however was good . Salmon was amazing. The waiter was cool & polite . I ordered a henny sidecar which was good & they weren't cheap with the liquor . I ordered the fortune cookie to take home . I shared the dessert with my daughter cousin & fiancé , it was so good . I will be back yo this location.
