Taqueria Al Pastor & Bar

Huge disappointment. We arrived hungry and excited for tacos and Mexican food. There were two other people before us in the entire restaurant and at least swim visible employees in the kitchen. We orders two carne tacos and a rice and beans with mushrooms platter. It took over 30 minutes to come out! The employees were cleaning and standing around and walking around the restaurant… by the time we got our food the place was filled with irritated customers. When the food finally came out the portions were tiny and the food was bland at best. The tortilla chips were stale, the guacamole watery (!!), just overpriced and unsatisfying. DO NOT eat here. Really Bummed.

Food was excellent and the staff here are very welcoming and friendly. The place look clean and they played pleasant music.

Great Al Pastor and Carne Asada tacos. Bumpin musica Mexicana and they even tested out a special recipe chicken and Oaxaca cheese pozole on us! It was 🔥

The tacos were tasty and the waitress was super friendly and kind. Very satisfied.

Food is good quality, tacos price is average, the only thing I noticed it was a little expensive was a 12.5 ounces Jarritos drink, I think it was very expensive it costs like $4

I decided to try out this restaurant on my walk about in Brooklyn. I love Mexican food. The food was tasty and filling. I didn’t go wrong when I tried it.

This place is the best of the best. When I lived in the area it was my favorite place to order takeout from. The fish tacos are killer, the al pastor plate is delicious along with everything else I’ve tried here. And the service is always extremely fast and pleasant. By far the best Mexican food I’ve had in the city!

As a Mexican I was hoping to find Al pastor tacos that are worth the price. The Al pastor meat wasn’t as saucy as an authentic Al pastor taco would be but it was so flavorful and they actually had spicy chiles toreados that made it taste even better. I also appreciate that they had Victoria beer which was the BEST combination. The carnita tacos were also delicious and not dry at all with a really great salsa. I’d absolutely return. Also they have plenty of seating which a huge plus.

Latin music, brightness, and colors welcome you as you step inside. Service at the counter was quick. I got 2 al pastor tacos and she got two pollo asado tacos - both with eve on them. They were filling, a little spicy, and just delicious.

A solid taco place if you're ever in the mood for some traditional Mexican tacos and drinks. So far I've gotten the tacos al pastor and the birria and both have been excellent. They also carry grilled cactus tacos and mushroom tacos for the vegetarians. Of course they carry the Mexican cokes which I am a huge fan of. I'm also a huge fan of their Michelada's and margaritas. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. If you've got a hankering for real tacos in the Brooklyn Heights area definitely come here!

I ordered a chicken and al pastor burrito from here! I thought the burrito was subpar - there are a lot better options around the area, so I don't think I'd come back! They are very busy and have a lot of seating, so it is a good option for more of a sit down!

Taqueria Al Pastor is such a solid spot for quality tacos and burritos. My absolute favorites are the fried fish and birria tacos. The fish is fried perfectly and comes out super light and crispy. I always get the tacos with everything on them as they always add the freshest sauces and toppings. For burritos, I love al pastor which has the perfect balance of sweetness from the pineapple. Also, they have a great selection of dinks like Jarritos and their homemade tamarind as horchata drinks.

A bit too noisy, but you don't go for the music, you go for the food and the tacos are phenomenal! $4.75 per taco.

Really good taco spot. Really liked the Al pastor. It was tender, flavorful and not dry. The pollo asado was just ok but probably wouldn't get it again. Not much flavor to it. My bro really liked the carne asada. I think Los tacos no 1 is still better though. Nice spacious area. Bathroom situation is weird cuz it says you need a code from your receipt but there was no code. I had to ask the employees for it.

A mixed review of a taqueria of I ever had one to date. The al pastor tacos are really the ticket here, as the name implies. Tasty meat, good pineapple flavor, and you certainly plenty of both. To put it up against their birria tacos I was something I had to try. Unfortunately, this is where it lacks. The taco is nicely filled but the birria meat is bone dry. There is no juicy meat and it has no cheese in it, making it quite unappetizing. It is unfortunate because the price is good, three of these for $10. Sadly the birria taco is not good as the al pastor. I thought about going up to the counter and getting another taco like the pollo or carne asada tacos, but I stopped just short, thinking, if the birria taco is dry, what does that say about their other tacos? Los Angeles it is not. I will keep looking.

Now let me tell you something, if it's 1 thing I know is a good ass fish taco and baaaaaby this here is the truth. Now let me start by saying it was crowded which is often a testament to good food in NYC. But with a crowd comes a wait time and I waited a good 10min for my taco. Oh I only order 1 taco, cause I wasn't wasting my money on more than one of it wasn't good. And I don't care if it's only $5/taco Now back to my 10min wait, it seemed like forever. But once I got my taco I was hooked. I went back the next day and got 2 more lol. So if you're ever in the Downtown Bk area and want a good cheap meal, come here.

Hard to beat this place for quality and freshness. The fish tacos are outstanding and come with a so y mayonnaise and fresh pogo de gallo - lime slice and cucumbers. The tortilla is freshly made. Service is friendly and fast. Music was a bit loud. But that's ok when the food is so good

I was a little skeptical looking for taqueria on the east coast as I have them in abundance on the west coast. Absolutely worth the try. First time i went for i had 3 Al Pastor Tacos. omg so damn good. I ordered a plate an Al Pastor plate for dinner a couple days later. just as good. love it! simple menu, good service and delicious food.

Very tasty al pastor! The taste and texture was perfect, super juicy with nice smoky charred bits. The burrito was massive, it filled me up for a whole day and was totally worth the $15. I loved that it came with guac. If you want a solid burrito, skip Chipotle and go here instead!

10/10 absolute banger. Was in New York for 48 hours and went out of my way to eat here. One Al pastor burrito and one tamarind michelada, and your night is set. This place is so tight I wish they had one where I'm living. Much love for the people who work here and the passion they put into this establishment.

Taco was supreme* Rice platter was decent and Service was v fast *picked up & ate this immediately on the street and it was very good. I assume delivery would take away from the freshness

Taqueria al Pastor is a new-ish addition to Cobble Hill. The layout reminds me a lot of Los Tacos #1 with a similar ordering and dining concept. The service was really friendly and it seemed like everyone enjoyed working here. All the food is made fresh and it took about 10min for the food to be ready. I was hungry and almost ordered 3 fish tacos, but I'm happy I only ordered two. They were big! Very generous with the portion size and amount of fish. The fish itself I was a little bit disappointed by, there was a huge amount of breading which is something that I don't like with fried fish tacos. If the breading was a little bit lighter, it would've made the taco much more delicious. Would definitely come back to sample more menu items!

I didn't have the highest hopes if i'm being honest. Not that I expected they would be bad but I didn't expect such authentic flavors. I tried both birria tacos and al pastor, delivered through ubereats. The meat was so tender and seasoned/marinated perfectly! I loved the softness of the tortilla as well. Everything tasted very fresh and the tacos had the perfect ratio of onion and cilantro. Which was also chopped perfect, no oversized pieces of neither. The only downside was the spice, their hot sauce wasn't spicy at all; as well as the prices. $6 tacos is def excessive. That won't stop me from coming back and trying different menu items though, 5/5!

It's good. Staff is friendly. The price is decent for the area. The flavor was spot on with the salsas. I had the red and the green. I got a al pastor (pork) Burrito, it was good . It doesn't come with anything. Chips would be extra. Would I come back Maybe it wouldn't be my destination. But if I'm in the area and suddenly hungry lol.

Exactly what the neighborhood needed. A super solid, affordable and damn tasty place Mexican place! Gotta first give a shout out to the staff, always super kind and engage the customer so you get exactly what you want. Props to them! I've been here a few times. I've tried the fish, cactus and chicken tacos. Big fan of the fish taco and the cactus one is pretty good as well, gotta a pretty decent kick! I've never been a huge quesadilla person but there's are really good. Comes with great cheese, good veggies and guacamole with your choice of protein. Honestly can't go wrong. They have a bunch of other options to mix and match and again, for the area, this is an affordable lunch/dinner option.

Pretty solid and pretty tasty tacos! I read the other reviews and was in the area, so I dropped by. Had to try "the best al pastor taco you can get in NYC" as I've seen it described here. I bought 2 al pastor, 2 steak, some chips & guac, and some jamaica and horchata for myself and my partner. Spent about $35 with tip, so pretty decent for a filling lunch in NYC. The food came out quick and we sat in their outdoor space. Not as nice as their indoor area with all of its colors and music, but we had room to spread out at least. The tacos, unsurprisingly, are their best feature. I have to admit, I am hard-pressed to think of a single other taqueria that makes better Al Pastor tacos. I've tried at least a dozen restaurants, food carts and other joints across 3 boroughs so far (Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn), and yeah this Al Pastor is at least as good as some of the best I've tried elsewhere - if not better. Each one costs about 4-5 bucks and it's huge - it takes careful maneuvering to get a good bite in and not have it crumble to pieces. It's decently spicy too - which I love, but my partner doesn't. So if you're not into spicy food, be sure to tell them - or do like we did; just have the steak of chicken options, which weren't spicy. Their chips and guac were decent, but I've had better at other places so I'm spoiled now and have pretty high expectations. I enjoyed em but wasn't blown away. The cold drinks were tasty and I'd order them again for sure. Particularly on a hot day. If I lived in the area I'd be eating their tacos pretty regularly!

This taqueria opening up a few blocks from my apartment is the best and worst thing to happen to me in a while. On the plus side, it's the real deal. They have actual, authentic, delicious al pastor tacos, with a trompo rotating back there like it should be. In fact, all the tacos are absolutely on point. The fish is fantastic too. On the minus side, I'm going to be plus size. I was trying to do this thing where I didn't eat all the food all the time, but being able to waltz over here for incredible tacos at any time of day is really going to be a problem. Things You Should Know: 1. They serve up their tacos on one tortilla, instead of too. I like this, but it does get a bit messy. I might rock a plato one day just to see how that goes. Or a volcano, or a gringa. Although those might not help me not make a mess. 2. Apparently the 'volcanes' on the menu are like a tostada covered in melted cheese, then topped with the rest of the stuff. The 'gringas' are two tortillas with melted cheese and the stuff. I had to ask. 3. My kid thinks the pollo tacos are too spicy, but she's like three years old and can't even handle black pepper. That said, she did keep going back for more, which speaks to how tasty they are. 4. The sign says Taqueria & Bar, but the bar isn't open yet. Maybe when this whole pandemic thing blows over. 5. I'm going to be in here a lot. I'm probably the guy hunched over in the corner dropping onions and salsa on his pants. Not the homeless one though. I smell marginally better.

My friend and I stopped here for a quick dinner. I ordered one nopale taco and one Al pastor taco. They were both good, but my favorite was the al pastor. The pieces of meat were big and flavorful, and it came with a pineapple salsa. Overall, the food was simple, straightforward, and so good!

I loved the food my friends and I ordered the other night from Seamless. I tried the chicken burrito which was delicious and a huge portion enough to share - for me at least. The chicken was flavored very well and I liked the pinto peans - it was filling and fresh tasting. The meal came with a unique medium spicy salsa added a kick to everything. The fresh-made chips and guacamole was very good and came in a paper bag which I appreciated. Drink wise - the Jamaica tea was a little sweeter than others I've had but was still delicious. It was my first time trying horchata and I really liked it. The drinks were large size cups and we felt a good value. I can't really comment on the service or ambiance as it was delivery - but everything was packaged well and arrived hot. The restaurant looks great, I'd love to visit!

Food was good, the burria tacos and consume were fantastic but I felt like we could've used half the consume and halved the price ($6 for consume alone). We also had fish tacos, al pastor and the pollo and ranking wise: 1. Fish taco 2. Burria (partner thought it was mediocre) 3. Al pastor (I thought these were v spicy) 4. Pollo Service is order at the counter and you just sit wherever - wasn't super busy. Pretty cheap so good value overall.

The first time I came here which was very soon after they first opened, I stepped out after seeing the taco prices. However on another night, I decided to finally get food here as the place is pretty popular and I went with one their rice plates/plato de arroz as I found this is probably a better deal for dinner as along with the meat, it also comes with either corn tortillas or tortilla chips as well as a variety of other things (beans, cheese, salsa, guacamole.) I believe it was 15.99 or something similar which isn't cheap but then again it is Brooklyn Heights so what are you going to do? As per the namesake, I went with the al pastor. Al Pastor refers to a type of pork grilled very similarly to Middle Eastern shawarma in a mix of Mexican spices with some grilled pineapple and after waiting for maybe 10 minutes or so, the food was ready and the portion size is large. As the other reviewer noted, the al pastor was surprisingly spicy. Usually I find a lot of places tone down the heat and I am glad that there was a ton of flavor here. There was maybe a bit too much cheese below the meat as it got a bit overwhelming but overall it was very tasty. The tortilla chips were fine though I would definitely go with the corn tortillas next time and the guacamole was good. Not the best I have had but still tasty and better than a few of the other places nearby and definitely with fresh avocado. A lot of people here might complain about the prices but this is Brooklyn Heights and I think it was fine at least for the plate. I see comparisons to Chipotle but the latter is much more Tex-Mex and the food quality at that place is much worse by comparison (at least in terms of the meat quality and flavor (but then again I dislike Chipotle.) All ranting about that other worse chain aside, the food here is very tasty. I'm not exactly sure whether it would have been worth it to buy a taco because of the prices but for the plate, I found it to be a good deal especially if you're looking for something spicy, fresh, and tasty.

Really authentic and delicious. I had two Al pastor tacos there with an horchata and took a quesadilla to go that held up surprisingly well the next day. The al pastor is delicious and the complimentary garnishes and salsa are a great touch. New York is full of al pastor, but authentic al pastor is hard to find and this this place nailed it! I'll definitely be back.

Yep. Definitely one of the best Three burritos maker in NYC . Fresh , large , delicious and with Excellent spicy (but not too ...) sauce on the side . Side by side with Super & Electric they are Deserve to be at the top.

The slowest cooks, got my order completely wrong. 30 mins for a taco is crazy ! Would not be returning, food trucks serve way faster and taste better to be honest

I eat here every Friday. The tacos aren't all that great, and for their taste a bit overpriced, but it's location is convenient for me. Today, I walk in and ask to be pointed in the direction of the restroom. The girl at the register mentioned something about a receipt. Turns out, I look homeless or like a non paying customer and can't use the restroom before ordering. Management: when a person has to use the restroom urgently, they're not prepared to think about what they want to order. Took my money and my urge to piss elsewhere, and won't be back.

Caveat, I ordered delivery. This review is not for the actual restaurant experience itself, but it is testament to the food itself. I'm going to write this out, but let the picture speak for itself. The delivery time was great, but it was a Seamless delivery so that's not really on the spot itself. I'm guessing it's just easier for them to let Seamless/Grubhub do their deliveries for them which is fine, it's 2023 and all. But, look at the picture. THAT. Is what they call a quesadilla. What...in the world...is that? I got the bag, opened it up, and said, "Hmm, that's weird. Did I get someone else's taco?" That's what this looks like. a slightly bigger version of a single taco. No, this is what they call a quesadilla. There wasn't even any cheese in it! It's basically a big taco, with not much in it, for over $10. That's just odd. I was so disappointed, words cannot describe. No, but seriously. I can't get over this. WHAT EVEN IS THAT? How do you even get that texture on a tortilla? I'm assuming it's corn: who makes a quesadilla with a corn tortilla? WHERE IS THE CHEESE? I have so many questions and so few answers. I was left feeling annoyed and frustrated. Let me say it again: This. Is. Not. A. Quesadilla. This is a soft taco with a slightly larger shell. It literally looks like they just made their taco shells a little bit larger and folded it over and called it a quesadilla without putting any cheese in it. Seriously. . . putting all the other flaws aside, how do you not put cheese in a quesadilla? It's in the name for crying out loud! Oh and the icing on the cake, they forgot the Horchata! They had horchata on the receipt stapled to the bag, but there was no horchata anywhere in sight. Long story short. . . PROBABLY not ordering from them again. Maybe stick to the tacos, I guess.

This was another little spot on court we ducked into for a quick bite. Instead of one of the Tacos, I had 3. It seems I'm getting into the bad habit of eating first taking pictures later. The place was nice, looks relatively new... no funny smells... nice and clean so you can smell the amazing aromas. The deco was nice too. It is different from the mundane.But I like it... it gives you the feeling that you are some place other than the city. This one I will revisit again... to try more of the food and get photos this time. But while I was there Carnitas Gringas, Tacos Al Pastor y Michelle's and Carnitas Tostadas... there was several of us and we ordered several plates ans shared the food.. it can get a little crowded never the less it all tasted great...

imho, hands down the best al pastor tacos in town! family owned and the vibe is always welcoming and the wait times are sooooo quick, especially with all the traffic they get.

Who doesn't love roasted meat on a spit?!?! Came in for a lunch time foray and left with a full belly. As the name implies, their specialty is tacos al pastor and they do a good job. Hot and spicy with a hit of balancing sweetness, their al pastor taco ticks all the boxes of a wonderful and moderately priced lunch. One that I will happily return for. My colleague had the chicken tacos and loved that the meat was still juicy but not overtly in the way that juicy meat can often cause tortillas to disintegrate. Four stars for a quick and delicious taco! I look forward to trying the rest of the menu!

Stopped here after my trip to Trader Joe's, because I'm addicted to Garlic Naan. You order at the desk and that's it, easy peasy Tacos were fantastic (minus the carne asada) The Al pastor and pescado are definitely the best on the menu. I also asked for hot sauce which was had a nice smoky heat. The guac and chips and frijoles were a nice addition. (Just wish they served beer for the hubby)

I used to love this place when they first opened, and they were my go-to spot for tacos! However their prices always seemed to oscillate, but recently they've been going up and up! They've reached the point where I can't continue to justify the weekly trip. So sad! I recommend, but I'm sad they've reached the price they have, there are more upscale taquerias with broader offerings, or higher quality, that don't cost as much, they just aren't local! Trips to Williamsburg and Greenpoint will take place for my weekly taco night with friends!

Very good tacos. Love that they make the own tortillas. They are soft and fresh and really delicious. Decor is nice. A bit price but worthy. They need a better system for take out. The wait can be a bit long especially during lunch time.

Me gusta tacos. I knew those five years of taking Spanish would eventually pay off! Now while I do enjoy tacos, what I do not like is having to always go through the song and dance of a full sit down meal. What I like even less is those pesky little footnotes on the menu that let you know you can't mix an match your tacos. If I wanted three identical tacos, I would go ahead and meal prep and complain that I'm sick of eating the same thing. Plenty of options at Taqueria Al Pastor! Steak, carnitas, fish, al pastor, cactus - combinations are endless. My favorite is al pastor, but the smoky chicken is a close second. If tacos are not your thing, tostadas, burritos, rice plates and quesadillas are also on the menu. The vibe is super casual - order at the counter, sit wherever you want, and await in anticipation for your order number to be called. No alcohol yet, but looks like that's in the works since there's a nice looking bar in the middle of the restaurant. Now although at $4.75ish a taco this is hardly the best bang for your buck, they do a taco happy hour of sorts after 5pm where you can get three tacos of your choosing for $10. That's a happiness inducing deal right there!

Been searching for a good SF style cali burrito for a while now and dropped in to try this place last week. Thought overall it was a really good burrito compared to other places I've tried in BK. I got the steak option and there was a good amount of meat inside, the flavors were all good, and the salsa was tasty. I do wish they had lettuce and sour cream, but understand they are doing it their way. Would come back and try other items in the future for sure. Staff were super friendly and helpful, and the dining room was clean and spacious even during weekday lunch rush!

If you've always near cobble hill like I am then you've walked by this place and never walked in. Well I decided it was finally time to give this new place a try, especially since I love tacos. There's plenty of seating, as well as a bar area, not sure if they're serving drinks at the bar as yet since nobody was working there but it's a nice place to sit if you don't want to take up a whole table. I ordered the al pastor and carnitas tacos and the Jamaica drink. The drink was sweet, floral and refreshing. My favorite taco was the Carnitas, it was juicy and seasoned nicely. This is a great place to stop by and have some tacos.

Such an odd dining experience. The counter is in the front, you're served in actual plates but have to seat yourself and expected to clean up after yourself at the same time. The bar is glass with blows my mind, who cleans that area? Who knows. The birria tacos are not all that, the tortillas are handmade, you can literally see them making them, doesn't distract from how subpar these are to any truck in queens. This is not a colonizer writing this, I'm not yt. Maybe they cater to you, if that's a point of contention.

Mexican approved! My mom (who's from Mexico City) and I came here after we walked by and she spotted the trompo and was like we HAVE to go in. Dropped in for a couple of quick tacos Al pastor and they did not disappoint. The meat is tender and tasty, the seasoning is perfect, and they are actually kind of spicy (I don't think they're too crazy but you might want to ask for them not spicy if you can't handle heat, they're definitely above mild/medium. The staff was extremely friendly and all spoke Spanish, which is a good sign. The restaurant is spacious, clean, and nicely designed. Will definitely be returning and bringing friends. Also - someone wrote in a review that the tortillas were soggy, and I feel that's either a lie or they got REALLY unlucky. The tortillas were pretty darn crisp and fresh for ours. I definitely want to come back and try the gringas.

Tried the Three Beef Taco Birria Special. Decided to take it home because I knew it was going to be messy eating, and I'm so glad I did! You get three little tacos with the same shredded beef filling. Each taco has two layers of homemade flour tortillas, which you dip into the rich, flavorful beef broth, right before taking a bite. Juices will drip down your jaw and all over your hands, but it's worth it! So delish!

Wow, this spot blew us away with great tasting tacos. The Al pastor taco was delicious but the real stand out was the fish taco. My friend and I agree that their fish taco rivals if not beats the fish tacos from Los mariscos. Quick, pleasant service, nice workers, amaaaazing tacos. Will be back for more!

When looking for a quick bite with an authentic twist, this is a noteworthy stop. Food is extremely good, fresh ingredients and ala carte pricing.

A La Carte tacos are in the upper echelon of my personal food pyramid. For some reason though, it's tough to come by these. Isn't it lame when you want tacos but the restaurant forces you to order many of the same kind? I will fret no more, as Taqueria Al Pastor has entered the local scene! First, the most important point: the tacos are delicious. I've visited enough to where I'm 90ish percent sure that I have tried all the different meat options, and I've definitely had the cactus too which is quite tasty. My favorite item by a small margin though are the Birria tacos. These you actually have to order in a set of three, but they're so good that this shouldn't be a problem for most people (plus it's sharing-friendly). Definitely get the broth with the Birria and soak it up! They also have other items, like Volcanes, Tostadas, Burritos, if you're into that sort of thing. The inside is nice enough - you order at the counter and there's plenty of seating. Bathrooms are clean. However, it seems like they are mayyybe going to have a bar inside eventually which would be awesome! Regardless, popping in for a few tacos at any time of day is a joyous and highly-satisfying experience.

We are from California and go to Mexico frequently. This is some of the best Al Pastor we have had anywhere, including Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada. They slice the meat rather than chop it. The chili has a nice kick and it has excellent flavor. They give you enough pineapple. The tortillas are excellent. This Taco is an experience worth going out of your way for.​

In New York we always complain that we don't have good street tacos. Taqueria Al Pastor has changed the game. This vibrant colorful downtown Brooklyn taco shop is set to take the city by storm. Homemade fresh corn tortillas, authentic pastor on the spit. Fresh made salsa and fixings'. The pastor is the star of the show, but I enjoyed the pescado and asada as well. Looks like they will be adding a bar soon. Place is spacious and clean and staff is friendly.
