I had the cheese enchiladas with verde sauce. They were good. It seemed the unhealthy items for me would have tasted better, but that's not to say the enchiladas weren't good. I didn't care much for the rice. There was a lack of love in it. Overall I give the food an "okay."

Google
Food was decent. Mine looked great but lacked flavor. What made us have a somewhat bad experience was the staff. It was our first time there and the first waitress just stared at us as we walked in. Didn’t greet us, didn’t even ask if we needed help. We had to ask her where do we sit. When she came over to take our drink order, she again didn’t greet us. Just stood there. Didn’t ask us what we wanted to drink. The second waitress was MUCCCCCH better. Maybe the first waitress was having a rough day, but she for sure didn’t want to be there, and made us feel unwelcome.

Google
Great spot for fresh and authentic food. The chicken fajita burrito was incredible. Got rice and beans on the side as well. All of the salsas were so fresh. Staff very friendly. Will be going back again soon. Loved it.

Google
Awesomeness in classic Austin Tex-Mex! About as local as they come, places like this are dotted all over Austin, and you really should check them out. Excellent food, even more excellent tacos, and most excellent chips and salsa verde. Pretty much my go to for comfort food….

Vanessa

Google
Decent place. Tacos weren't huge, but did have a good amount of meat with them. The table salsa was a little spicy, but good. Our server mostly spoke Spanish, so ordering for the non-spanish speakers of the group was bumpy.

Justin Dao

Google
No BS taco shop. Great staff, very fast service, just barebones quick food. Order comes with chips, salsa, and a great spicy green sauce

Google
So delicious and very underrated, some of the best migas and tortillas in Austin, don’t sleep on this place, absolutely amazing, every meal is 100% wonderful!

Mitchell

Google
This place is not good. I just spent $28 on 4 tacos and some chips and salsa. The chips are good cause they're obviously made at Fiesta Tortilla Factory and the salsa was ok. But the Barbacoa and pastor tacos were pitiful, fatty and just plain gross. I threw them in the trash and won't feed it to my dog even... . Now I'm hungry. Thanks. Won't be trying this place again.

Yelp
Me encantó el servicio y la comida, muy amables y hospitalario. I loved the service and the food, very nice and welcoming.

Yelp
Service was fast and friendly. Red salsa had a pretty good bite, but was way too loaded with onions. The chalupa was pretty good but I've had much better elsewhere. My main complaint was the prices. They were way too high for what we got. The restaurant, while clean, was in need of lots of TLC to make it inviting and certainly didn't merit the prices. Ok for a single visit but we will not be returning.

Yelp
We had a recommendation from our Uber driver to stop here for dinner, and we're so glad we did! Great Mexican food with good portions. Only watch-out is that our waitress didn't speak English, but luckily we had a member of our group who was fluent in Spanish. I had the pulled chicken tacos and they were delicious! Juicy and flavorful, while also being filling. Only thing is I wish it came with cheese, so you'll have to ask for it added if you want it. Service was quick and it was easy to pay up at the counter.

Yelp
VERY DISAPPOINTING! We used to go here all the time & the service and quality of food has really gone down hill :( After a bad experience a few months ago with the lack of customer service. We spoke to the store manager and resolved the issue that day. So we thought... Today we were craving tacos & thought we'd give this location another try. After looking at all the pictures we were ready for good food! Tacos!! NOPE! What we got were $20 worth of child-like-size tacos with barely anything on them, horrible, horrible, horrible. A total embarrassment why we even went there for a second try. Wasted our money & now have to go get more food somewhere else. Sad :(

Yelp
I wasn't expecting a mariachi duo to serenade me on a random Thursday lunch visit, but here I was, leaning back in my chair in between bites and enjoying the local entertainment. I'm not sure if this is a regular thing, but the duo was fun and I'm glad they stopped by. I liked the bottomless chips and salsa, especially the hot salsa. My chicken chimichanga served with a side of rice and refried beans was perfectly acceptable and quite filling. Please don't feel bad if you ask for a box to go. Service was quick, knowledgeable, polite and engaging.
google avatar

Yelp
Food came out fast and it was pretty tasty. We were the only ones in the restaurant for awhile and I still had to go ask for refills. Oh and the salsa for the salsa and chips was very good. Overall the food was pretty good and service was ok.

Yelp
This is a conversation with the owner and a Transaction for an order that I placed in and I noticed I called the wrong place and so I decided to call them out of courtesy to let them know I wasn't coming in but I apologize and they can close the tab out since I wasn't coming in or if they can cancel it ... well they decided to tip themselves after I told them I wasn't coming inthey could of just close the tab after I called them I could also not given my card number and just said it was a togo order ... I've been hung up multiple times I've talk to 2 servers and still no response after couple days ... from the manager . Be careful with you guys tabs seems like they like to tip them self out

Yelp
Very disappointed, ordered Angus beef with Ranchero sauce. Supposed to be chunks of stewed meat .13.99 for the plate .what I was served was something else.3 small wafer thin pieces of dry meat.Advised waitress not what I ordered and not what I had been served before. Waitress was very rude, kept insisting it was correct ,that I was mistaken. Asked for correct dish, was refused, asked to speak to manager, was rudely advised not in .I should have taken a picture of what I was given ,3 small wafer thin pieces of dry meat hidden under a huge pile of Ranchero sauce. Very poor service and worst food

Yelp
Best authentic Mexican soups in Austin! Friendly staff and tons of parking. My neighborhood favorite for comfort food.
google avatar

Margaret A.

Yelp
Every time I come here the food is always great. I wouldn't necessarily call it authentic Mexican but it's Tex-Mex for sure and that's ok. The service is pretty quick too. I've ordered pretty much breakfast foods - tacos, breakfast plates. Occasionally I've had dinner and have gotten gorditas, tortas, all yummy with delicious meat and fresh veggies on top. This visit I got the breakfast plate which I thought to he a little expensive - but everyone's raising their prices it seems like. Eggs, bacon, potatoes, and pancakes - good!

Yelp
Great little place to have a late night meal after some fun, or to pop in for a quick dinner with a friend. They serve breakfast as well, but I was coming in around 9 pm after a day of work. Not too many tables, but it is just the right size for a local Mexican food place. The staff is friendly and usually the food is super quick to come out. I had the carne plate with rice, refried beans, guacamole, and pico. The meat was amazing; they have it in this great sauce that adds a little extra flavor. The rice was good for mixing in with the meal, but I wouldn't recommend eating it alone. The refried beans were pretty delicious too, and the guacamole was great when mixed in with the rest of them to make makeshift tacos. I may try something else like the enchilada plates, or the burrito plate. Like I said they do serve breakfast as well, but come in early if you want to indulge. There's a menu for the kids, dessert, and other great dishes that sound delicious. Parking is available in the small lot out back; when finding this place be careful not to miss the turn or you'll have to loop back on Chavez in the busy traffic.

Ethan H.

Yelp
The service was quick, the prices were fair, the ingredients were fresh, the food was hot, & it tasted great. Also a killer margarita!

Sunny D.

Yelp
Good lord... I took a chance on this place on UberEats and it was incredible. Two chicken enchiladas, one cheese, topped with verde salsa and so much cheese. These aren't called enchiladas suizas, but they satisfied that craving. Beans and rice were good as well, and the little salsa they gave complemented the meal just right. I could go on and on because this was so good, but go try it out yourself. This was only $12!

Katie W.

Yelp
Service is always excellent and the food is delish! We go here at least once a week. Favorites include the steak quesadilla and tacos adobada... but you honestly can't go wrong.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
Extraordinary. Magic. Best food I've had in forever and irrationally cheap. Genuinely does not make sense how we had such delicious food for such little cost. The salsa? Yes please. The adobada tacos? Need more.

Yelp
Food was good! I got a quesadilla but ordered a meat that I never had before and didn't like it (my fault) so I got the flautas and they were awesome! My husband got a big plate of different meats and tortillas I can't remember what it was called but I don't think it was fajitas.. anyway he looooved it! My daughter loved the queso and guac, she also got a chicken nugget plate and it had a ton of nuggets! There was a sanitizing station when you walk in which was nice. 4/5 stars because I just wish we would have been checked on more. But our waitress was really nice and I understand the bustle and bustle of pre closing.. we'll be back (:

Cheyenne S.

Yelp
I would have given it 4 or 5 stars because the food was good for what it is (casual Mexican dining) and the place was clean, but I was overcharged. There was no one there that spoke fluent English to sort it out and I never got an itemized bill to see what the extra charge was. There was a sign at the register saying that they charge 3.7% extra to use a credit card but the bill was higher than that. I tried calling when I got home and the phone went straight to voicemail saying that the mailbox was full or hadn't been set up. When I figured out the math, I was charged 8.7% extra for using my credit card plus there was a .52 service fee. OR if the .52 was actually the credit card fee, then I was overcharged an extra $1.12 for something. I was annoyed but got over it until the charge was posted on my credit card, and in addition, they added an extra dollar onto the 25% tip that I had left them. This really made me mad, so I called my bank and they fixed it for me. So beware. As good as the food was I am not going back.
google avatar

Marisol G.

Yelp
The food is amazing. The staff is always friendly. My go to is always the Tacos de Nopales.

B A.

Yelp
Over charged me for a to go order and I came home to this. I paid $15 with a tip and when I got home my food was thrown into a tray and didn't look a thing like the picture and didn't taste good either. There was zero effort into making my food.
google avatar

Cassee A.

Yelp
I wanted to try some enchiladas but they only served Verde sauce. I ended up ordering soft beef tacos, rice and refried beans and all of it was very bland. No cheese on the tacos or the beans. I had to ask for cheese and was brought a plate of cheddar cheese. I came here because of the decent reviews, convenience, and I just didn't find it anything special. Never greeted, guessed it was seat yourself so I had to ask, had to get up and go to cashier for menu when there was only 3 patrons in the entire restaurant. Ate food and never given a bill so again got up and went to cashier to pay. It felt like I had just ate at IHOP or a cafeteria; Here is your plate and then go pay. Left wishing I had gone to Chuy's.

Yelp
Bland, tasteless, mediocre and a mystery why anyone would say they like the low quality excuse for Mexican food at this place. I curse the day I ate there, yes, it's that bad.
google avatar

Amy T.

Yelp
I have had the fajitas 2x but both times we specified beef only. Next time we try the combo. Last night as we got back into town from a weekend road trip we decided to try their fajitas.. eh. they were kinda on the small side which i did not mind at all. but they were dry. I found a few pieces of bone that I had to spit out into my napkin (since it was chicken enchiladas, i think bone just made its way through the shredding process...yuck) but it happens. it's a risk I took, a risk I considered and it came to fruition. I ordered chicken enchiladas with red sauce - no pica. but lots of cheese. husband ordered the beef (hamburger) enchiladas with green sauce. eh. not much flavor to be honest. I will return of course but i think i will expand my ordering horizons and probably save enchiladas for trips to Las Cazuelas.

Yelp
Excellent food.. great prices.. great drinks. .. Authentic to the max ! What more could you want from a restaurant.. one of the best perks is that they have their own parking! The best comparison I could think of was Ruchi's in Houston. Will add a pic of their door so the hours will always be available for all to see !
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place! If you want authentic Mexican food that comes in big portions and cheap prices, this is the place! Super fast service, friendly staff and delicious meals!!
google avatar

Yelp
Good traditional Mexican spot on the east side. We went here on the day of the Austin Marathon and the street was blocked off to traffic. We were definitely not going to wait in line for La BBQ so this was a great option. The chips and salsa were fresh and tasty. I got the barbacoa taco dish where the tacos were slightly fried. The beans were also very good. My wife and sister split the beef dish with cactus, beans, rice, avocado and they added fired eggs. The beef was a little tough but had good flavor. The service was good and they even have little buzzers on each table to ring for service. This location is one of 4 (I think this is the first). Interior could use a refresh. Prices were very reasonable. Check it out!

Tristan B.

Yelp
I absolutely love this location of Taqueria Chapala. The staff are all so nice and it's become a regular for my bf and me when we want something simple and sort of home style.
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast tacos. I also tried the Barbacoa and the Cow Tongue tacos, which were super delicious as well. My favorite is the Barbacoa! I'm not the biggest expert on Mexican food, but my favorite thing from any Mexican restaurant is the Menudo Soup. This place's Menudo is hands down my favorite I've ever had. The amount of tripe in the soup is insane, you'd think there's an entire cow's worth in there. The flavor is on point, with tons of onions, cilantros, jalapeños and limes to put in. We also had the sweetest waitress. I will definitely be coming back here for more Menudo.
google avatar

Clint C.

Yelp
This place was what I was looking for! Very generous portions at a very reasonable price! I had the Migas. I almost killed myself trying to eat it all. Still had some left over. Service was awesome, you never had to wait around for anything. Food prep was very quick as well. Only problem I had was the acoustics. It was kinda loud but to be expected with a full house. Park behind restaurant or across the street. For a good Mexican breakfast, I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
google avatar

Jaime C.

Yelp
No no no no. I am embarrassed for them. I was expecting greatness and what I got was the wrong order and tasteless tacos and at the steepest price I have ever seen. The tacos were about $4 each and they were dry steak with cilantro and onion I asked for a chicken enchilada and all that was in it was cheese. My waitress was no where to be found for 20 minutes and when she finally came and I told her it was wrong, all she said was she would just charge me half price... FOR WHAT?!? I didn't eat it. It was infuriating. Then she didn't split our check and the poor lady at the register was so confused and charged us all the wrong prices. I ended up paying $30 for three tasteless dry tacos 2 cokes (because you have to buy cans) and 2 milks ( because they have my daughter a 4oz cup which cost me more than a gallon of milk and needed refilled once).... just avoid this place until they get it together.
google avatar

Jennica P.

Yelp
This is my favorite have to stop at spots in ATX. Their food is so authentic, delicious and reasonably priced. Their micheladas are good too! All the ladies in there are really nice.. if you like real Mexican food and are looking for a good spot, look no further!
google avatar

Samantha P.

Yelp
Heaven. That's all I got. I'm a Texas girl, love everything about south Texas especially the food. This place reminds me of home, authentic, amazing, and so effing good. Crazy to think there's a huge line right across the street at some hipster place! I'm like what are y'all doing??? ‍ Save yourself the time in line and come eat over here. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Patricia M.

Yelp
I went today with a friend there. Please don't go! Warning menudo was gross, without red Chile, no salt or flavor. It looked like they just put food coloring to make it look red. It tasted gamey. Then I order the combination plate. The 2nd pic I uploaded. The beans didn't have salt or flavor, la Carne(the meat) also bland and tasteless. The rice also didn't have flavor. The manager made me pay for this food that was so bland. My rice that I make is so much better. I will not go back! Horrible food!!
google avatar

Tristan S.

Yelp
Great little local spot. Off the beaten path, well worth a visit if you're in town for a few days. When we went they had happy hour, margaritas were $2.99! Come on, $2.99 how can you eat that!!!??? I tried several of their tacos and holy cow the chicken fajita taco was a show stopper. Cooked to perfection. That staff was super nice, always a huge plus for me. Would have given 5 stars but they did mess up two orders.

Brianna E.

Yelp
These tacos paired with beans and rice were SOOOOO GOOOOD! And not to mention the low priced beer bottles to compliment Saturday College Football! @anf_promoting

DV H.

Yelp
Yall, they have whole fried fish (Mojarra frita). I've been looking for a good whole fried fish since I moved to Texas. I almost cried. It was delicious and massive at only 13 dollars for the plate, with lots of sides. I might need to buy a house across the street, because I'm gonna be here a LOT.

Haley P.

Yelp
Not bad, but extremely average. There was not much flavor or spice to anything. The torta bread was not seemingly authentic either. Lots of food for your money, but it won't be very impressive.
google avatar

Gabriella P.

Yelp
Definitely recommend, prob everything on the menu. Food was great & price were even better. I'm definitely coming back again.
google avatar

Russell W.

Yelp
Have eaten here multiple times over the past decade. It's always been mediocre at best. With the location on E. Cesar Chavez, I've assumed I just haven't gotten to what they're good at. Today, I ordered the lunch special. Crispy Taco Plate. This food was so bad, I could barely eat it! I mean, the taco shells were stale so I scraped the innards off to eat, but everything is so bland I'm wondering how in the world did this get on my plate and why is the front door still open. How does this place maintain business in this town? I don't ordinarily write a scathing bad review like this, but I'd take back my one star if I could get out of here fast enough!!! Muy mal!
google avatar

Taeana F.

Yelp
My cousins and I were the only ones in the restaurant, yet I didn't get my drink until my food came out, and the chips were extremely stale. Food was cold, and my stomach hurt after. On top of that, no one checked on us the entire time we ate, and as I said we were the ONLY customers there! Once we were finished, we sat for half an hour and still - no one came to our table. This was my second time at this restaurant, and I won't be back.
google avatar

Xtina G.

Yelp
Usually the small humble looking places have the best Mexican food, but this was definitely an exception. They are only getting 2 stars because the service was decent and prices were cheap. The food looked REALLY good, until we tasted it. Almost all of our dishes lacked flavor/seasoning- it was just bland..... this is just sooooo un-Mexican. This was our order: 1 Taco al Pastor- absolutely no flavor - the meat was the right color- it looked great, but I had to use a lot of lime, salt and salsa to "fix it" 1 Gordita de Chicharron- not the type of gordita im used to, it looked more like the meat between 2 tostadas- weird, but ok. I normally don't add a lot of salt to my food, but it seemed to be absolutely necessary with this gordita 1 plate bistek a la mexicana- the veggies were almost raw- you can see in the pic- they should be COOKED! 1 plate carne guisada- I didn't try it but he said there was no flavor at all 1 potato and egg taco- this was voted the best item out of all our dishes... which is sad!

Destiny R.

Yelp
This place is the best! Such great tasteful food. I've tried other Chapalas and Enchiladas but nothing compares to theirs. The fajitas are good and the menudo is perfect. t's quite funny seeing people say they have bland food because it's definitely far from that. Theres always available seating and quick service. Never had a messed up order. And the ladies are the absolute sweetest. Gracias !
google avatar

Adi E.

Yelp
Highly recommend the food is great + free wifi Got me the green enchiladas With rice and beans $8.99 really cheap and they where really tasty The are also really nice to you and make you feel welcome
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
My favorite mom-and-pop Mexican restaurant in Austin. Consistently delicious, large portions, and a friendly staff who remembers my face. This place makes me feel at home.
google avatar

Jake A.

Yelp
Great authentic Mexican restaurant. The breakfast tacos here are very good! I ordered a variety of breakfast tacos from here and they were all super tasty. The restaurant has that cozy Mexican restaurant feel. The service was really good too. All in all I thought the food, atmosphere, and service was thumbs up. Plus they have a painting of Selena on the front of their building, so you know this place is legit.
google avatar

Ginny S.

Yelp
Not great. The website boasts "fresh and all natural ingredients." I'm 99% sure the margaritas were made with Gatorade; they certainly tasted like it. The queso tasted like melted velvetta. And I left feeling gross and unsatisfied. The place was clean. The service was fantastic. But the food was not amazing.

Nicholas F.

Yelp
This has become my favorite place for tex-mex/mexican food. The food is great and the staff is nice
google avatar

Da W.

Yelp
Very tasty and a great value. Pancho Villa will never let you down. This is one of my favorite restaurants in east Austin. Don't listen to the haters that didn't like the margaritas. While I'm sure they suck why would you order a margarita from a place that doesn't sell alcohol and think it's going to be good ya dummy? You played yourself. The food is delicious.
google avatar

Kristie A.

Yelp
I hate to hate on things, but I just wasn't impressed with this place. Our waitress was the sweetest thing ever so I want to give props to her. We started with the chips and salsa, obviously, and I thought each was okay, but the chips reminded me of store bought Tostitos. My friend and I both ordered the mango margarita, and it was way too sweet. I still drank it, though, as I don't let alcohol go to waste. : ) I ordered the tex-mex plate, which came with cheese enchiladas, a cup of queso and a side of guacamole. The cheese enchiladas had no flavor whatsoever. The cup of queso was about the same, and the cheese wasn't melted all the way. The worst part was the guacamole. I'd bet my right arm that it was store bought. WTF? Even I can make guacamole. The Yelp failed me on this one.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
I was craving some good chicken flautas that could be delivered, and I was happily surprised by the size of them when I opened my to go plate!! Aside from a great portion, the chicken was juicy and flavorful. It's really easy for chicken to be dry inside flautas, so I will definitely be ordering from here again! The rice and beans were equally as good.
