"Longtime JC restaurant Taqueria Downtown can be a madhouse, especially if you’re aiming to tie on a few margs after work. That said, the tacos are good — from the cabeza to the lengua to the more standard chorizo and carnitas. Get a Milanesa torta for a big appetite, or consider shares like quesadilla gringas, flautas, enchiladas, and tostadas. — MM" - Melissa McCart
"Some of our favorite Mexican food in Jersey City is available for takeout or delivery from Taqueria Downtown. The tacos are great, but if you don’t feel like ordering six or seven of them to hit the $20 minimum, throw in a milanesa torta or chorizo quesadilla." - matt tervooren
"This corner spot on Grove and Grand is almost always the answer to “What’s next?” on a given Thursday night after 9pm. Space is tight, but you’ll make friends fast after bumping into the person next to you as you head inside. If you can, squeeze into a spot at the high tops where you’ll be eye-level to the walls lined with vintage photos and more recently-taken shots of the LA Dodgers. The menu is as straightforward as their plating: you can mix and match four tacos for under $15, which you’ll either receive on a paper plate or in a plastic basket lined with wax paper. The carnitas, bistec, chorizo, and barbacoa are a winning combo, but you could certainly swap out two of those for the nopalitos or lengua." - matt tervooren, nisha vedi pawar, kendal nicole lambert

"Taqueria Downtown makes some of our favorite Mexican food in Jersey City, and if you’d like to see why, consider ordering takeout or delivery from them. There’s a $20 minimum, which just means you’ll have to throw in a milanesa torta or chorizo quesadilla in addition to their excellent $3.75 tacos." - hannah albertine
