Taqueria El Buen Pastor Debuts in Henderson | Eater Vegas

"I noticed a local favorite for street-inspired Mexican food has arrived in Henderson, marking the fourth brick-and-mortar expansion of its wildly popular North Las Vegas food truck. The 2,095-square-foot Taqueria El Buen Pastor sits inside the shuttered former Baja Fresh on the southwest side of Mall Ring Circle at the intersection of Stephanie Street and Sunset Road; it's a counter-service space with plenty of indoor seating and a self-serve area for condiments and salsas. Even without a publicly announced fixed opening schedule, the menu already includes breakfast specials — three $10.50 breakfast selections including huevos rancheros made with eggs over hard in tomato sauce, rice, beans and four fresh, handmade tortillas. Regular lunch and dinner offerings include $9 burritos, hurrache or tortas, $5.50 sopes, $13 chicken flautas with rice and beans, $11.50 asada fries or nachos, and tacos (lengua, cabeza, chorizo, pollo, asada and tripa) priced between $2.50 and $3 each." - Bradley Martin

This was such a great place to stop in for lunch. The chicken quesadilla was really good but the Campechanos and Al Pastor tacos were so good! The salsa mixes at the table just topped everything off!

We were running around doing errands when we realized it was lunch time. We were passing by and saw this place and decided to stop in. Turned out to be a good move! You can tell by the name it features Mexican cuisine. The people inside were very accommodating. The music playing was loud, and we asked that it be lowered, which they immediately did. When we mentioned that it was our first visit, one of the staff came over to explain what they do and answer our questions. There are lunch menu options, dinner menu options, items you can get at either time, and a board listing specials. Most of the items sound like the same kinds of things you find all over town, but it's nice to see such a variety. The decor is not special. It looks like this was a fast food restaurant in one of its earlier iterations. The seating had both booths and tables though and the servers were very quick and efficient. They have the Mexican sodas available as well as Horchata, Hibiscus, and Pineapple juices. We tried the Horchata which was nice, albeit a bit sweet for our taste. We ordered a wet burrito and a chicken fajita. Our food was delivered very quickly and was very hot. In addition, two squeeze bottles with house made hot sauces were presented: A green one that was milder even though it featured Jalapenos, and a pink one which we were told was based on Chile de Arbol which was hotter. I would categorize the hotter one as medium in heat level. All the food we got was very well seasoned and flavorful. The shredded chicken in the burrito had been cooked for a while with some seasoning before being shredded, for instance. Our two - minor - complaints were that the spanish rice was tad too salty for our taste, and the refried beans were blended way too much - to the point that they were saucy, with no structure. We will definitely want to come back to try their other food as we saw some specials that intrigued us.

Stopped in the afternoon and had the restaurant to ourselves, but the atmosphere was still great. Mariachi music playing, etc. tacos were amazing as was the salsa roja! Will definitely frequent this taqueria when we are in the area!

Google
Solid Mexican fare experience. We stopped in because I had heard they do birria on Sundays. They no longer do that, or I heard incorrectly. We ended up with a chimichanga combo and a taco salad. Everything was good, but the guacamole and the hard taco shell really stood out. They were fantastic. The chimichanga was interesting as it was not deep fried. It was really just some shredded chicken wrapped with a flour tortilla with the orange sauce over top. It was good, I just expected it to be deep fried because I've never had one that wasn't. Parking lot. Wasn't busy on Sunday evening.

Google
Nice little restaurant. I ordered the plato de carnitas which came with carnitas, tortillas, salad, beans and rice and it came out hot and delicious. They also brought Verde and roja salsa in bottles which had a very rich taste that went great with my carnitas. Ordered the horchata and it tastes just like how abuelita use to make it. Will be back.

Google
Best tacos in Pittsburgh by far. We’ve come a few times now and have tried many different meats. None of them disappointed. Great customer service and can’t wait to return!!

Google
My fiance and I regularly eat in the restaurant and order takeout. We have never had anything that wasn’t absolutely delicious! We eat at restaurants all over the country when traveling for work, and this remains top tier Mexican. Everything is always fresh and well prepared, and everyone we encounter is always courteous and helpful. The restaurant is extremely clean, and you can see that the kitchen area is also kept meticulously clean and organized.

Yelp
Great place! The food was great. Staff was nice and quick. The decor is like your typical Mexican joint that is not easily seen in Pittsburgh. I recommend making the trip to try this place!

Yelp
Taqueria El Buen Pastor on 4112 Brownsville Rd, South Park Township, PA 15129, stands out as a beacon of authentic Mexican cuisine in Pennsylvania. As someone familiar with the tough competition of SoCal's food culture, I can confidently say this restaurant captures the essence of Mexican cuisine. The staff is very hospitable, full of warmth, and very welcoming. The festive atmosphere and upbeat music added to the authenticity of the setting as well. For anyone seeking a genuine taste of Mexico in Pennsylvania, Taqueria El Buen Pastor is a must-visit. It not only satisfies cravings for authentic Mexican cuisine but also rivals the best eateries found back in Southern California. From the first bite of their tacos and homemade tortilla chips, you'll understand why this restaurant is celebrated for its commitment to quality, taste, and generous food portions. Please give them a chance. I wish I had this back home. (Sorry for the address in the reviews. This place doesn't exist on Google Reviews so I put it in to help it pop up in Google searches for Tacos and Taqueria)

Yelp
This was our first visit. It was found by accident. Wife said it's near the house, looked it up and didn't realize the blue line grille was gone and this was born. She had the taco salad and it was good. I had burrito grande, it was different but delicious. We had salsa and chips which were good. They said 10 minutes but it took 25 minutes. They appeared confused at first but they knocked it out. Very friendly. This is true Mexican restaurant. I see us ordering here more often as we love Mexican food and it's now the closest to us.

Yelp
So delicious! I had one taco el pastor and one asada. Both were fantastic. My husband had the chimichangas and would 10/10 order again.

Yelp
Six months later, I still come back a few times per month. It's quick, convenient, and the food has never let me down! Really good tacos, rice, beans, toreados, horchata, chips n salsa... haven't deviated much from that but I'm sure the other food is solid.

Meredith A.

Yelp
This place has THE most delicious, authentic Mexican food I've ever had. And it came so fast! Get a side of beans and rice. The simplest thing is the tastiest. But the Wet Burrito was also phenomenal. I forgot to snap a photo because i was too excited to eat but trust me this food is wonderful.

Yelp
I was passing through the area on a Thursday and popped into Taquieria El Buen Pastor for lunch based on the previous Yelp reviews. I'm glad I did. The place was clean and bright, the staff was very friendly, and lunch was great. I had three tacos - carnitas, grilled chicken, and barbacoa. They arrived hot and fast, and they also brough three sauces. I used the hot on everything because I like spicy stuff, and it was both super hot and very tasty. I also used the creamy cilantro on one of the tacos and it was goo too. I was in and out super fast, and my waiter was very attentive. I may be back in the area a few more times for personal business, and this will be my go-to lunch spot. A solid 5.

Yelp
I was so looking forward to trying this place, as I enjoy trying local eateries instead of large chain restaurants. WELL?... as it turns out... I am very disapointed with the food portions, flavor was nothing to get excited for! The shell was greasy and the meat was watery and soaked the bottom of the shell to where it was mush. Overall, it is just another Mexican restaurant in the area. Nothing special... I hope they can make a go of it, as the last 2 establishments have failed in this location.

Angelena M.

Yelp
The tacos are definitely worth the try! Some of the best tacos I've found in the Pittsburgh area

Yelp
Nice little Mexican place at the end of the Blue Line. Opened in a local business that has been a few restaurants over many years. Service was great, with a smile and made sure you were happy with the meal and made sure you understood the menu. Had my traditional Barbacoa and Al Pastor tacos. Both came on 2 corn tortillas, the Al pastor was marinated pork with pineapple , and cilantro and onion with some lime in the take out container. Very good and nice flavor. The Barbacoa was shredded beef and not a lot of flavor. Probably should have ordered a different item. The menu has some interesting dinner and lunch items. Looking forward to trying again when in the neighborhood.

Yelp
The Tacos Al Pastor really wowed me as did all the tacos choices. We also really enjoyed the chimichangas. The food was moist, well seasoned, and we will definitely be back!! So good to know this place is right around the corner for take out.

Yelp
The service was very good, we had chips and salsa to start salsa was fresh and full of flavor, chips were ok , I had the lunch shredded beef wet burrito , the beef was very good and extremely tender, my wife had the steak fajitas, very nice plate her steak was very tender , and the seasoning was really tasty, all food was served hot , will definitely eat there again, if you haven't tried it and live in the area you really need to do yourself a favor and try it.

Yelp
Everything was great. Had steak fajitas and a carnitas platter. Best Mexican in the South Hills. Will definitely return to try more of the menu.

Samantha S.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic tacos. The best part was the homemade salsa. Prompt service, friendly, and amazing food. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This is a nice little spot. Our food was great, the server was friendly and accommodating. I loved the chips and salsa! My husband got chicken fajitas and I got a shrimp burrito - both were delicious!

Edna A.

Yelp
Service is friendly and attentive. Food is good but not abundant for the high prices. Two burritos, one with a side of beans and rice, the other with rice only was $36.00.

Wesley R.

Yelp
This place is simply amazing. Absolutely wonderful service aspect of things, I have been a server for years, and there is only one guy serving is he is taking the time to treat everybody and give his suggestions on food. Speaking of the food, it is absolutely incredible. Everything is made 100% fresh, whatever meat you get is cooked right then and there. I got the quesa birria ; and I have a ranking of this item in my phone from different places, and this tops all of them. Fresh tortilla, fresh onion and cilantro, spicy soup, and mouth melting beef. I would absolutely recommend this place !

Yelp
Fantastic all around good Mexican food great tacos great rice and beans. Service is great lovely nice people

Kerri S.

Yelp
Our first time here. After reading great reviews we decided to try this place. Pros: clean, cute decor, nice people, most of the food was good. Cons: language barrier. My husband's entree came out wrong. He order carne fajitas and he was given shrimp fajitas. So after we explained to our server that it was wrong he asked to have the correct dish made. The problem was that I had my entree already . So I decided I could start eating my food but I had no utensils! Our server stopped by and I told him we needed utensils and he still didn't bring them. My food was getting cold so I went up to the counter and asked for utensils and again the language barrier was an issue . She had to call over our server to give me utensils. By this time my food was warm at best. Overall- we might come back. The food was good. The chips were hard hard hard. I have said this in other reviews. People please learn from Totopo to learn how to make excellent tortilla chips. And don't charge extra for them.

Wanda H.

Yelp
Best taco's I've had since leaving California. Owner and staff very friendly. Nice small picnic area to eat when the weather is good. I'll be back soon to try something new.

Stephen C.

Yelp
Loved this place and hope they are successful. The staff is friendly and try's very hard to be accommodating to their customers. They have a decent menu with traditional items and unique things as well. I am pretty traditional so I have had the burrito and the steak fajita quesadillas. Both were excellent. Additionally when you walk in you can see the whole kitchen and it appears immaculately clean. I definitely recommend giving this restaurant a try. I don't think you will be disappointed.
