This place is amazing, I’ve been going here since 5 years old and I’m 17 now, I’m black and they’ve showed me nothing but love and many times gave me free burritos after school. Great people especially the grandma that owns it. And the food is AMAZING, my personal favorite is the burritos, honestly never tried anything else but my go to was that because it’s delicious.

This place is called “the Best” (that’s what la Mejor means), and they are not lying!! They have full plates, tacos, burritos, birria; portions are generous, prices super affordable, and everyone working here is kind and friendly, plus everything is CLEAN and fragrant of delicious food. My to go place when I want healthy and delicious comfort food 🥰 Don’t forget to tip! 💵

I got a carnitas super burrito with mixed beans and everything inside, $13 out tha door?! You fasho need cash here so hit the ATM before. There’s a gas station across the street so you could get cash there in a pinch. Everything is delicious at their prices. The community is present and folks are kind, straightforward, and the food comes out quick. If you’re looking for something fast affordable and delicious, swing by. It’s in the mini mall across from the old Walgreens on High St.

Home Sweet Home in a Mexican Restaurant. Small but quaint. Always greeted with smiles and a warm Holla or Hello. With food being chopped, cooked and prepared right in front of you, you feel like your at home with grandma while the smell of food is coming. The food is excellent and the prices are reasonable. On point! They feed The Bay.

Love this place, it's a lil hole in the wall, but the service and food are awesome. I've had a variety of items here and I've loved every one. Everything is fresh and made to order. Its not over priced, and like I said its very tasty. 👌

Best local tacos and chicken enchiladas with green sauce plates around! I love the lady that runs it! She's always nice and smiles at me! Food is excellent! They also have soups, burritos and wet burritos too! I haven't tried the soup, but it always looks delicious and I'm sure it is, just like the rest of their real Mexican food! We always keep a couple $20's in our wallets for emergency tacos from La Mejor! As they only take cash. The ONLY drawback.

AMBIANCE: Parking: A small shared plaza that can fit about 15 cars. Seating: Good for individuals or pairs, maybe a total of 15 people, 4 groups. Vibes: Not the most flashiest parts of the Bay Area but your under the radar grit and grind area that contributes to the beauty of NorCal. It's relatively close to the freeway with a CVS and neighborhoods with a lot of history. You're welcomed by the hustle and bustle of the kitchen, flow of people, and Mexican music in the background. The aesthetics reflects it's business with a sense of cultural pride, you'll have equipment and supplies stacked around with a ofrenda alter, paintings, and finally photos of Bay Area legend- Juan Toscano-Anderson. Great spot for a quick dine or grab and go. FOOD: Taco Quesadilla - Pork (Recommend) Lovely, the pork was flavorful and savory with a good amount of cheese. Small Burrito - Lengua (Recommend) Deelish. A sizable burrito that is packed, a good portion of meat, beans, and rice for those with a small stomach. The lengua was tender with good flavor. This place is delectable!!! The tacos are mouth watering and the burritos just mwah! I even dream of their beans, rice and cheese burritos. :) The service is sweet and the ladies working are super kind. We nicknamed the place moms cause we noticed moms doing all the cooking. Who can ever beats moms cooking? Don't be nervous of the neighborhood. Brave it as you'll be bummed it you do. The place has about 10 tables inside. Oh and note: this place is CASH ONLY! and it's not crazy expensive. I spent $20 for two burritos and two tacos! Go get some!

This is my first time stopping by pretty good. I must say so myself the best chicken burrito I've had in a long time. I don't even eat burritos that's why I'm coming in suggestion this is a great place ambience was ok not a lot of customer service you go in and ask for what you want get it and sit down and eat! The $6 Baby Burrito is the best meal deal I have found in Oakland! In addition to chips and salsas it comes with fresh radishes and jalapeños and the burrito itself is big enough to satisfy almost anyone. The ambiance is just ordinary but that's not the point, the food is as good as anywhere.

Not bad for $11-$12 burritos. Been there a few times and never had a bad service or a complaint about the burritos. The parking space is small and can get really tight with other people driving in and out the lot. At times. Not all the time. Just sometimes. Other than that no complaints from my end.

As my pregnancy progresses, the desire of Mexican food becomes stronger, this is by far one of the best taquerias I've had food from, juicy chicken extra cheese and crema and AMAZING prices, 4th time eating here this week!

Ok, this spot is super unassuming. I went there cause it's next to the spot I do my laundry and I was hungry- but not super hungry. So I just ordered the six dollar baby burrito with spicy pork. Now why this thing only slightly smaller than a regular burrito lol. It was delicious and such a good deal for the amount of food.

It might seem like a little hole in the wall, but it's great takeout! I haven't tried the tacos but the tortas are definitely on point! Yum! Choice of meat- I get the carnitas and the steak (separately) as my choices. They're big enough that I can eat half and save half for another meal. It's cash only, so some people might take issue with that, but it's not a problem at all for me. They have drinks in the cooler if you choose. The tables are few and simple for dine in. The ladies are working hard in the kitchen and everything is served fresh. I ate my torta (Mexican sandwich) before I could take pictures. Yum.

Taqueria La Mejor... it definitely represents it's name. This little hidden gem is located off of 580 E. High street exit. There's always somewhere to park and the atmosphere is peaceful and the service is great. My go to on the menu are the $6 dollar burritos because I can afford to treat whoever is riding with me. But more so the food is always cooked daily and yummy to the tummy!! In addition, the place is clean and I give this Taqueria five stars for their love and effort! Maria Chavez

This is a fantastic place, I am almost reluctant to review it because I do not want crowds of foodies to spoil it. My personal favorite is the chicken super burrito, a staple food you can find anywhere but at La Mejor it is elevated by the use of the freshest ingredients to evoke a bite of mama's food. It is generous, juicy, fresh and delivers an infinite amount of taste and comfort. The staff is super friendly, and there is ample parking

Please have the owner contact me asap. I asked 5 times if their enchiladas sauce has NUTS for allergy. I asked and showed them both in English and Spanish. They sai NO multiple times. They said its only tomato based. My son took one bite and had an allergic reaction! Contact me asap else i am calling the health department.

I will never come to this restaurant again. The old lady is lazy and mean. Ordered some tacos and asked for a couple of radishes ( which I get all the time with my order because I live super close and eat there ALL THE TIME!) but the old lady taking orders told me no, and with no explanation why! I felt like she simply didn't want feel like reaching over 20 inches and giving me any. RUDE! And I'm a repeat customer! I guess losing a customer is more cost efficient than putting a couple of radish's in tin foil and telling me to have a good day. Anyways, won't be spending my money there EVER again!

Delicious tacos. Loved the pastor so much. I had pastor and carnitas. Both were so good. I preferred the pastor but they were both sooo yummy. Tortillas are def homemade and the people were very sweet. My friend took grad pictures in here because she went so much as a student at mills college hahah. They were sweet.

you will not find a better deal in all of oakland than the baby burrito at la mejor. you will not find nicer staff. you will not find a more delicious salsa. if you order a veggie burrito they put guacamole in it automatically. i got a pint of the red salsa for $5 and made chilaquiles with it - best chilaquiles of my life. cash only but you can certainly deal with it. keep a 10 on you at all times in case you end up in front of la mejor. fantastic vibes. eat your baby burrito in the parking lot and gaze at the walgreens. listen to the 580; if you stop gazing at the walgreens and close your eyes it sounds like the ocean. smell the laundromat. thank you la mejor. if i only ate a la mejor veggie baby burrito for every meal i would save a decent amount of money and i think about it sometimes.

I followed Cindy B's advice and got birria tacos which were amazing! I also got a carne asada taco and it was whatever. Salsas are good, staff is friendly, and they seemed to be doing a good job with covid precautions. I'll definitely be back!

Had been a very loyal customer for months. Large burritos and well priced. Until two days ago when I'm chomping down on my second to last bite when I find 3 small rocks in it. How I didn't break my tooth is a miracle. Clearly these are from the beans. I took the photo to them (since the last bite got tossed) They weren't interested in doing anything. Left my name and number and received no phone call. Finally went in again today and they didn't apologize, didn't care, they were absolutely on the offensive. Obviously mistakes happen, but it's dangerous when it's not taken seriously! Eat here at your own risk. I won't be coming back. Too much competition for this kinda attitude to fly.

Best lengua you will find in all of Oakland! Also their chili verde is on point. You can't go wrong. Bring cash because credit cards are not accepted. Get the red sauce!

We just ordered two burritos and when I took a bite into it I bit into legit hard rocks. I've never written a review for a restaurant but nothing like this has happened to me. When I called the restaurant to let them know what happened they said sorry and that's all. Glad I didn't break a tooth!

Bland and ordinary. This is supposed to be a carnitas super burrito picante? Not coming back here just so I can spend another 30 minutes waiting for a burrito.

Went here for a quick lunch. The staff took my order quickly. I got to watch the cook staff make my burrito. They quickly assembled the burrito and I enjoy watching them. We were there around 1:00 pm and there was a good amount of people eating and waiting on take outs The food was great.

The customer service here is amazing. Came here and I didn't realize they had already closed. The staff still happily attended me and let me order. The birria is so good. Highly recommend.

Honestly, there is an older lady there who will mean mug you and their burritos are mid. Check out other burrito spots please. Thought she had a bad day but she gave a fake smile and it was numerous times i went in and the vibe was not it.

Yep it's a hole in the wall, ( I walked in because I was doing laundry next door and found myself hungry). It is a very simple looking however the food is as authentic Mexican as you get around here, I'm picky and I'm Mexican, Hii! I had the Birria and girl, it was heavenly, the spices were right on the money. I saw that the birria was taken out of the fridge and that's fine -Birria and it's juices are richer and thicker the next day' and I didn't have a problem with that because one can clearly see the kitchen ! Yes it's in full view as soon as you walk up the counter, I like that! Actually I'm hooked and yesterday when I went back to try the nachos I saw them cook their Chiles (for Chile relleno) over the fire, which says they do a lot of cooking from scratch. I have also tried the asada tacos, girl-delicious! They are closer to the Tijuana tacos than anything else I have had here and girl??? I've been eating out a lot! Food is hot and yummy and the prices are reasonable!! The first day I went the service wasn't so great but it's gotten better!! --hence the 4 stars, did I say I was picky???

Small shop but friendly staff. To go: Ordered 2 steak tacos and it didn't have jalapeños or radish to eat with it. Felt odd. Meat was on the dry side so had to slather it with the 2 sauces that came with it. Sauce was both on the mild side. Ordered also a chicken quesadilla but came home to a steak one. Eh no biggie. Just didn't get to try their chicken. Portion was smaller than anticipated but for the price it was about right. Sour cream was a bit on the runny side. Guac also on the runny side. Same dry steak. But the cheese helped. It wasn't too bad. I would go back again to try something else and see what else they have to offer with their friendly smiles filled staff. I would not go out of my way to eat here though.

Taqueria La Mejor is the typical hole in the wall taqueria. burritos seem pricey so went for a few tacos.. eats: lengua(tongue), al pastor, & carna asada(1.35@) -all meats prepepped -taco shell freshly fried. -lengua tasted fresh, al pastor, & carna asada tasteless, pregrilled. crumbs: -radishes, salsa on counter -open kitchen, -fast, friendly service -food just so so. some not so fresh...

This is one of my favorite places here in Oakland I come here especially for the chicken enchiladas they are so good and the rice and beans are as well. It's a cash only place. Today I switched it up and got a pozole and I have to say it was amazing! The salsa roja and verde compliments the pozole just right. They also have reasonable prices which is why I always come back here. I highly recommend this place.

Very mediocre vegetarian burrito. Bland, soggy, and overfilled with rice. Only saving grace is that it's cheap.

I eat A LOT of Mexican food it's my go to food. That being said I'm surprised by how people like this food. If you like bland burritos full of bland rice this is right up your alley. My burrito was 60% ++ rice. One star for the friendly staff and one for the pretty decent salsa that saved the rice filled burrito.

My mom and I both currently have food poisoning after eating only part of a burrito. We hadn't eaten anything else all day and started feeling sick a few hours after eating some of our burritos.

Best Chile rellenos and Chile verde in Oakland carnitas are very flavorful and delicious also, great prices great staff highly recommend this restaurant

Very disappointed with this restaurant, my sisters went and ordered food and while I was on the phone ordered mine I asked for steak nachos with everything on it including sour cream , cheese , and guacamole ! When they brought me my order there was no meat , enough lettuce to feed two rabbits, pinto beans , a small amount of cheese, and a little guacamole. Will never eat here again!!

Holy crap this is in my neighborhood AND I just now tried it ?!!! Sweet ladies and the food is off the charts delicious! CASH only which isn't an issue for me . I am super picky with my Mexican food and this didn't disappoint at all . I tried a carnitas taco and Chile Colorado also rice and beans . 10/10 straight up

Been coming here for the past 10 years, so lucky one of my favorites is right down the street from my house! I order a vegetarian [beans, cheese, rice & sour cream] burrito, and the green salsa is a must; they make it themselves and it's AHHHMAZING. All the ladies that run this taqueria are very sweet & I've never had any issues with my orders. Prices are pretty low, and the only thing I can really complain about is that they close pretty early. Definitely one of Oakland's hidden gems, try it out or you're missin' out

I LUV this place mainly for a specific burrito which contains beans, rice, cheese, sour cream, & choice of meat. It's just the right size...medium Consistently FRESH, I particularly favor the chile verde. I tried lengua at this place for the 1st and 2nd time and must say it's pretty good, the texture is just like really tender steak, better than what I expected. Best $2.50 burrito I've had....YES...$2.50!!!! Both Green and Red Salsas are super good. if you like hot, grab yourself 2-3 Jalapenos and consume simultaneously with the burrito drenched with red salsa....sure to make you break a slight sweat It's not on the menu so you have to ask the kind ladies specifically for the "$2.50" burrito with everything....DEALS!!!

From a vegetarian perspective this place is fantastic...a close second to El Farolito's down the street. Burritos are well balanced, fresh ingredients, and the best salsa verde I've tasted. The ladies working there are super nice as well. I'm not surpised about the other reviewer's negative experience...dude you ordered goat meat and refried beans...
