A Late-Night Dining Survival Guide for the Twin Cities

"Over the past two decades, restaurateurs Armando Ocampo and Lilia Zagal have built a veritable empire of Los Ocampo restaurants, building on their original taquerias with full-service restaurants and ultra-quick “express” locations. Their specialty is handmade, light-fried masa cakes, smothered with refried beans (huaraches), stuffed with cheese and pork (tlacoyos), or crowned with carnitas (sopes), though Los Ocampo is equally known for its tacos and vast array of traditional Mexican dishes, from menudo to flautas. Start with elotes and end with a creamy slice of flan. Open til midnight on weekdays; 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights." - Justine Jones, Eater Staff

OMG get the sope. Or the huarache. I’ve loved everything I’ve tried here. Great meats. The food can be a little heavy

Food is nice, good Hours of operation are great Line can take a while. Recieving my food took 20 mins and up on the weekend. Food taste is a 4 out 5. Menu is very extensive. Birria was good, tlaycayo is good. Nacho were just okay/ didn't have cheese. Location is in a busy spot, on LK street. Parking lot is limited, but they do have spots.

I decided to brighten up my work day with takeout for lunch, and I chose to try Los Ocampo. I ordered a vegetarian quesadilla with pinto beans. It came with a side of rice and beans. I also ordered a medium horchata. The food was lukewarm when it arrived, and everything was fine but forgettable. The horchata was watery and lacked the creamy texture I usually associate with horchata. The portions felt small for the price, and it just didn’t feel like the food was made with love. The hot sauces were tasty and fresh though! Probably the best part of the meal. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by my meal, and I think I’ll stick with Habanero Tacos on E Lake going forward…

Had a Cubana torta and an al pastor burrito. The burrito though great size definitely had room for improvement, namely the rice and the al pastor but the torta was great!!!!! The telera was perfection!!! All the filling was great too though doesn’t need the chicken.

Went after a concert, such a great late night eat. Busy, but there were lots of seating options and areas for standing. The vegetarian options were amazing - way more than just cheese. Delicious mango agua fresca as well.

Ordered the quesabirrito at $19.00. I asked for extra radishes and extra avacado hot sauce. I received one of the hot sayces I asked for, it only had a couple radishes on thr for abd half long quesadilla and very little cheese, plus lacked meat. I will not go to this location, but will drive across town to the st paul location where they care about quality

Authentic Mexican restaurant with a lot of dishes (like menudo, sopa de marisco) which you don’t get at typical Americanized Mexican places. Quesabirria taco and elote were particularly good. New location is much bigger and nicely decorated. Went twice in past month and there is some inconsistency. the second time they served all the dine in food in take out containers and in plastic bags. Service was also slow the second time.

We ordered a bunch of stuff because we heard great stuff about this place. We got take out and had to wait a little and the inside is gorgeous very well lit and decorated. That’s maybe the only good thing about this place. 1) We ordered for a group of five but the way the guy looked at us as we ordered knew we were getting a judgy look. 2) The food was bland and basic tasting even worse. The birra felt like wet shredded cardboard (maybe because they forgot our consomé). Also for all the food we got we got one tiny dipping container of salsa verde, and 2 salsas for over 10 tacos and hard limes. The carne asada was rubbery and over cooked. Chicken was tough. Elote, I mean it’s corn it’s hard to mess up but the lack of seasoning reminded me that this restaurant is still not good at whatever dish. All the tacos had hard stale tortillas and made it hard to get a solid bite.

I seen signs of racism but it's a very nice atmosphere you have to watch your back because it is in a drug neighborhood
