Best Mexican food I’ve had in Chicago. The food is great and you get so much for your money. I couldn’t even finish everything I got last time. I recommend the bistec en chile de árbol or the bistec ranchero!

Food was delicious. Some of the best tacos I’ve had. If you’re in the neighborhood, definitely give it a try!

The chips and salsa they give you when you dine in is amazing. Chips were fresh and the salsa was full of flavor. For the main plate I ordered steak torta and it was delicious, definitely will come back.

Stopped by between meal times for a quick bite. Tried three different tacos.. on the servers recommendation tried the Cecina- which turned out to be delicious. The Asada and Al Pastor were also authentically delicious.

Always quality food and wonderful, quick service. We often call in our order and pickup and it’s always delicious. Highly recommend the chimichanga dinner! It’s so much food! Lately I’ve been loving the ground beef option, they season the meat really well and small bits of carrot and potato are mixed in too. The salsa is a little spicy for me but I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who likes hot salsa.

No frills taco spot. Reminds me of the authentic spots I grew up around in Texas. Highly recommend if you need your Mexican food fix!

Amazing, amazing food at a great price. Tacos (any kind, the pastor reminds me of CDMX) are the star but do not sleep on the sopes! The lomo sope in particular is incredible.

Avondale was rated by Timeout Magazine as one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world in 2022 and on the list of places to try in Avondale, is Taqueria Mazamitla. I visited here recently with a few friends. The shop is small, yet spacious. There are plenty of tables, yet it never felt crowded. People are constantly walking in to pick up orders to-go and those who dine in inhale their meals. No one sticks around long; that's a good thing. The service was quick, we must have waited no more than 10 minutes for our food. If there was one downside in the night, it was that the salsa is served in a tiny cup and each time we asked for more it was simply forgotten. We never did receive a refill. This alone would not have been disappointing, if the salsa they serve was average. But it's not. The salsa is excellent - according to my partner, the best salsa she remembers having. In a table for four, you need to be quick to get your fair share. Fortunately, they sell their salsa to-go, for $8 you take home a 32oz cup of the good stuff. Most of us ordered tacos. These are very reasonably priced. Most tacos are $3 - $4, an excellent deal for the quality of tacos served. If you want a side of refried beans and yellow rice, opt for the taco platter. On the menu you'll see a two taco platter and a three taco platter for $12.50, but there doesn't seem to be a limit to the size of the platter you can get. I went for four and in hindsight should've ordered the five taco dish. I'm a sucker for the pastor (pork) and really enjoyed them here. I also tried the goat taco (birria) and was pleasantly surprised - if I had ordered a fifth, it would've probably been another one of these. The vegetable taco was fine, the sour cream and avocado was a nice touch, but nothing to write home about. I left convinced the tacos were the thing to get here. One of us ordered the cheese enchiladas, which I got to try, and they weren't great. In the end, we all left satisfied. We walked two blocks west to wash down the dinner with beers at Sleeping Village.

First off it's BYOB! Street parking is tricky and you can't park next door at the 7/11 parking lot unless you want to get booted. Now that is out of the way. Authentic Mexican food at a great price. Quick service! The restaurant is small and always packed but oh my goodness the food is really good! Try the ribeye and onions the meat is so tender and the rice and beans are bomb. Just go and thank me later.

Mazamitla is a town in Mexico found in the state of Jalisco. The decor in the restaurant gives a homely impression of their home. Caricatures on the chairs and art on walls and ceiling. The restaurant offers ten tables with super comfy, boxy chairs. Service is mainly via the counter. Staffing is tight so if you dine in, expect a wait. I visited for the first time on Good Friday. At about Noonish the dine in was popping off. Some celebrated with a case of Modelo and plenty of eats. Others enjoying lunch. I ordered a three taco platter to go. Wide choice of proteins available. So I ordered the al pastor, lengua and birria (goat). Per photos I had an idea of how the food looked and was a little fearful. This establishment cooks proteins too well done. Most taquerias might up charge with birria but they don't. That's because it's barely birria, as they do not offer any consomme for dipping. Rice and beans hit. Al pastor isn't trompo style nor did it contain any pineapple. Food was alright.

Le dije que no era la forma de atender a los clientes. Y me dijo que no le importaba. Pero anda siempre de malas. Cambien lo más pronto ese tipo de meseras.

New favorite taco place. The meat is marinated perfectly and the quality of it is above average. To go order was quick and efficient and the staff was friendly.

Super solid place for tacos and my favorite place to get tripas tacos! Their other tacos like the Al pastor are good as well but my favs are definitely the tripas :)

No shortage of GOOD Mexican food around Chicago but this place is consistently one of my favorites. Service is no nonsense, just check in at the front counter and kind of sit wherever. Food comes up REAL fast. Prices are quite reasonable. Good free chips included. And of course the food is solid. The tacos and platters I've really liked. Didn't love the burrito the time I got that, kind of bland and hardly any beans, but the been 5 other times have been really solid and I will continue to return.

People have forgotten what Mexican fast food is about, Tasty first of all. VALUE and fast. This place in my book has an F on all 3

It has been a while. But what I remembered are 1. Very cheap tacos 2. Rice taste very special. They must have put some special seasoning in it 3. Fish in the fish tacos are super fresh.

Great little Taqueria! Had three different tacos they were all delicious. Big menu... lots of options... especially loved the goat soup. Huge portion, broth was a little spicy and bursting with flavor... served with fresh tortillas. I'd recommend this spot to anyone in the Avondale area.

This place is better as take-out than dine-in. We came as a small group (of 5) after an event local to the area. In searching for a nearby restaurant with good enough reviews, we settled on Taqueria Mazamitla. We were disappointed that they did not serve WATER for dine-in customers ~ basic water! Neither did they have pepper to flavor our food with. The taco platter was good (chicken was better than the steak to me), but no substitute for the beans & rice that we did not eat. DEFINITELY wouldn't dine in again, as basic water should be served ~ a few bottles of water, a filtered water pitcher, or something! The bathroom was clean, but moreso a closet with a mop bucket in it. Take-out makes more sense for this small restaurant, as they don't seem to be able to accommodate dine-in customers too well.

My favorite taco spot in the Avondale area. You can tell the business itself is ran with care & precision. Food is always delicious. Prices match up to the quality & portion size. Atmosphere is inviting & entertaining. Whenever someone visits the city & comes to visit me in Avondale, I always treat them to a dinner or lunch here because it's so consistent. This place is for the people.

I rarely come to the same place more than once because I love trying different ones, but mazamitla has had me consistently coming back!! Cant recommend the pastor torta enough.

My family and I stepped in on a Sunday afternoon. First and foremost street parking was a bit tough but we found a spot without searching for too long. The place is pretty small with great hand painted tables and chairs. First and foremost, the salsa is amazing! It's so fresh and has a nice kick that makes it enjoyable. My husband and daughter both had the tacos which they said were very tasty. I had the chilaquiles verdes with Sunny side up eggs. Everything, was served quickly and we paid a fair price for it all. The servers were very diligent and quick and kind. This place is open late which is another treat. Sometimes we have late night cravings and don't want to make the drive to the Southside. This place will do quite nicely! Four stars only because parking may be hard to find during busier hours and it's very small so larger families or groups may have a tough time.

Pastor burrito was so flavorful! The tacos were delicious. Can only order ahead via phone, but service was quick! Highly recommend!

I've been going to Mazamitla, on average, once per month for the past thirteen years since I moved to Avondale. It's the quickest, most consistent no-nonsense taqueria I've ever tried (and I've tried many). In the age of carelessness and terrible service, Mazamitla's consistency is rare. Arrogant Pilsen-dwellers poo poo on Northside Mexican food but frankly, Mazamitla is far superior to any taqueria I've tried in Pilsen. Delicious.

We've tried our fair share of taco slots and this is my absolute favorite late night mexican spot! This place is super authentic, fairly priced, and delicious. Service is also fast and friendly. Our staple is the taco dinner. They have the best beans! Highly recommend!!

Experienced bad customer service. The girl at the counter had an attitude with me after I told her I ordered 2 horchatas. I placed my order at 10:40 and didn't get my food till 11pm when I was taking my food I noticed there was only 1 horchata and when I told her I was missing one the girl told me I only ordered one (I had seen her write two on the paper but she must've forgot to charge me for the second one). I told her if I could pay for the other one and she refused and said that they were closed and kept insisting that I only ordered one horchata. Eating food from a place after having bad service really ruins the experience

The service was very fast, and they were friendly! I ordered a chicken taco and Horchata, my friend tried lamb, goat, and chorizo. His favorite was the goat and the Horchata I had ascended me to the astral plane. It wasn't vegan friendly so I thanked the lord I wasn't vegan. 10/10!!! Mexican food slaps

some of the best tacos in chicago. if you're in the area always make sure to stop by. inflation hasn't hit this place yet. plus you know the food is gonna be amazing when the tables and chairs match and look like this

We came here to get some to tacos to take home. Their menu looks pretty good to come back and dine in, but for now I can only review their food since we weren't invited in and paid at the entrance. I ordered my usual, al pastor, lengua and carne Asada tacos. I usually order my tacos like this so I can try all the flavors and see which one stands out of the three and which one I should avoid next time. The tacos weren't that pricey, but were also smaller than most. The lengua was cooked perfectly and very tasty. The carne Asada was on point. They use skirt steak for their Asada and very it was very delicious. Their al pastor however, was very disappointing and by far the worst al pastor I have ever tasted. It literally all burnt. No flavor, just a crunch with every bite. Don't know exactly what happened here, I never return food once given, but had I been dining in, I would of returned that in the quickness. I will be back to try some other things off their menu, just no their al pastor.

Decided to try a new taco place and happened to come across Mazamitla. Ordered 2 steak tacos and 1 Al pastor. Tacos were tasty. Salsas were fresh, and the horchata was refreshing. Customer service was great too. Will be coming back.

Love the steak here!! I've tried both the steak tacos and steak burrito and loved both! The staff is kind and knowledgeable. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends. I took off a star because the fish tacos were a flop :(

Terrible customer service. I order a Chile relleno burrito... I'm a vegetarian and was surprised to take a bite with meat inside! On the menu it says nothing about steak or meat. The burrito comes with the stuffed Chile, tomates, cheese, lettuce and sour cream. NO MEAT. And when we called to have them swap out the burrito, they gave us a hard time. The person who answered the phone said we ordered a steak burrito and not a chili relleno burrito. Really?? Then he had the nerve to say that we had to pay for a new burrito to be made even though they were the ones that messed up. When we said we wouldn't pay for a new burrito, he asked us to bring back the old burrito for proof that we weren't lying. Want your proof? Here's your proof. We used to love the food here and come here often, but we won't be back anymore.

I ordered Chile rellenos burrito but they gave me a steak, cool fine ppl make mistakes. Then when I called they said I asked for a steak, & said if I want another burrito I'd have to pay for another. I told him I confirmed that it was a Chile rellenos there is no way I'm gunna pay for another. Then he said "ok but I'll need to check the burrito to give you the other".... I was already all the way home & the person who wanted the burrito didn't want me to go through the hassle of going all the way back there.

Best place to get a consistent plate of loaded nachos. Their Horchata is dangerously delicious too! Not a huge fan of the rice and beans. Also, their churros consistently old and stale, don't recommend in getting. The service is good for a taco place, nothing that stands out to be really bad or good. I ate there once, but consistently order take out, which the cashiers are quick and nice. Parking is hard to find, you quickly can use the parking spaces for the grocery store in the corner. You CAN'T use 7/11s parking space or you will be towed.

Large servings, well seasoned, high quality meat, authentic Al pastor, what more do you need? Ordered an Asada taco and Al Pastor nachos and this is some of the best Mexican I've had on the north side.

It was mid. Saw the good reviews on the steak and got a steak burrito. There are other spots in the north side alone w better steak. I'm convinced people who've said it was the best they had grew up on chipotle. Also no sour cream or rice in the burrito. Wild

Great taco place nearby with lots of options. Ordered chicken, chorizo, and beef. Did not disappoint! Sauces were super spicy.

Mazamitla is a great place for a solid Mexican meal. Much better than many other spots in the area. You can get a wonderful authentic soup here or a solid plate of tacos with a simple topping of onions and cilantro. If you are in the mood for a quality, no-frills Mexican meal, turn to Mazamitla.

Came to eat food and the 7martes was Not good tasted like it was the soup going 7days old and the servers not great at all..I would not eat there ever again..

It's not Taco Tuesday, but I'll gladly eat these tacos everyday! Popped by this restaurant on a whim since it was nearby and still opened at 8 PM. My go to order are usually carne asada tacos and this did not disappoint. Flavorful, loaded with meat and the perfect bite! I also ordered a horchata, that was the perfect complement. My order ended up being around $7-$8, which is not bad for dinner. Check out this place and eat your heart out.

This place is nearby, but just far away enough not to be able to walk. So coming to this divey place is basically a busride or car ride. I can't really justify it being a place I would go out of my way to come to. The food here is great. The many positive reviews are there for a reason. I've always gotten take-out and it seems like a lot of people do. The first time I went all tables were occupied and it was very busy. The last time I came here there was nobody in at all (though a few people came in afterwards to order take-out) I'll definitely be here again. When I need my Mexican fix I'm likely to come here as other nearby spots aren't quite as good.

Best tacos i've had in a while!!! This place is exactly how a corner taco place should be :)

Was able to walk in and sit down on a Friday night. BYOB so no bar. Small inside seating, less than 10 tables. Ordered the chips and guacamole to start. Guac was fresh, plain with not many fixings. It needed salt. Chips were thicker and homemade, I enjoyed them with the salsa. Dinner was chicken, Asada, pastor and chorizo tacos. Chicken and asada were by far my favorites. Chicken wasn't dry, pretty juicy with good flavor. Asada looked burned, but it wasn't, still tender and flavorful. The chorizo and pastor were crispy and a bit burned. Both were dry as well. Beans and rice were pretty good, better than most other Mexican restaurants I've tried. Overall I like the simplicity of the tacos here, just meat, onions, and cilantro. I will go back for the steak and chicken

So far the salsa and chips were delicious had a generous portion of guacamole with chopped onions tomato and cilantro. And crispy fresh chips with just a bit of salt. Good size for small. Ordered lengua taco was excellent. Steak was a bit dry and salty and chili rellenos taco was fresh hot and right out of the fryer .

My first time here and I will say it will not be my last! Holy moly was the food here delicious! I ordered the Carne Asada medium cooked. This was probably the best Carnes Asada I ever had. It was tender, juicy, and full of flavor! It was delicious! We also tried the steak tostada. That was also exceptionally delicious! I don't know where this place buys there meat from, but whatever vendor they use they need to keep using forever! Their Guacamole is really seasoned well. I ordered a small guacamole and they give you a lot for a small order. No skimping here. I absolutely recommend this place for all things Mexican food. If you in the area you must stop and eat here!

Great neighborhood carry-out spot. I ate half of my burrito, and my husband demolished the other half before asking if he could have it. He just kept saying, "Where is this from? It's so good!" Definitely going on our quick weeknight carry-out options. The girl at the counter was also very nice. Highly recommend.

I have only had a caldo de pollo. On a cold night or when I am feeling under weather, it is really delicious.

At first, I was honesty skeptical. I had seen great yelp reviews but by the looks of the front service desk and the kitchen, it was not looking promising. My family and I have a love for Mexican food. Not your fancy places, but the hole in the walls. While we each have our favorite place, we'll branch out from time to time. The tacos we ordered were great. Whether it was well seasoned chicken, steak, tender goat, or smooth and not overly spicy chorizo, they were great. My taco dinner was pretty good with beans that you could still tell came from actual beans and well cooked rice (aka, not cooked three days ago and now being reheated). The guacamole was on point though could have used a little more salt to my taste. Overall, a great experience and hoping to come back soon!

These place have a very good tacos good prices and like you knows S now with the new increase of braces no Mexican restaurants cheap this one it is none of the session by the foods worth it and work to spend the money to eat taco taco

I went to dinner here with 2 of my oldest friends that I went to architecture school with. 1 of my friends was visiting from the Philippines and in town for only 2 days so we got together with each other and went out last night. I just bookmarked this restaurant 2 days ago and it's right down the street from where he was staying. Taqueria Mazamitla is a tiny little family owned restaurant on Belmont. Like most restaurants they bring you tortillas and salsa. We ordered the steak dinner that came with beans, rice and salad and corn tortillas. The steak was a very thin cut of meat, but seasoned very good. Even though the steak was thin they give a very generous portion as it filled 1 plate. The second plate had the rice, salad and beans. Once again a very generous portion. I ended up taking home half of my food for another meal later.

Everything is so good and the selection is great! The carne asada, cesina, birria, lengua and tripa tacos are all delicious and wonderful, and the homemade salsas are fresh and flavorable!

"Taqueria Mazamitla" is close to the CTA Belmont Blue Line station, like three (3) or four (4) blocks away west. Rosa J. originally was looking for a hole-in-the-wall taqueria inside a supermarket that was further down on Belmont, but my hunger level was elevating. It's alright to turn off my pedometer, take a little break, and consume some Mexican food, except I will have to work harder to walk off the crazy high calories from these aguas frescas, menudo, and consome de birria. I don't consume much alcohol on a regular basis. However, this is place is B.Y.O.B. There is less than ten (10) tables in the house. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive enough considering there was only one (1) mesera taking care the entire dining room. While their menudo was decent, the goat stew was way more remarkable. The meat was tender, flavorful, and delightful. I was attempting to make hubby trade the food with me yet he knew I was being strategic. In the end we created a win-win situation by bringing the leftovers home. For $24 and some change (post-tax and tip), we yet again experienced the "comida Mexicana" coma that would require hours to recuperate. By the way, their agua fresca de guayaba was very delicious. I don't understand the positive reviews. The food is good if you have a craving you are wanting to satisfy and you live walking distance. We ordered here based on the reviews- asada tacos, al pastor tacos & horchata. The asada was overcooked and under flavored. This isn't a bad thing, most average restaurants serve their meat this way- it's precooked, prechopped & dumped into a stainless steel container waiting for the moment to be hastily assembled. The pastor meat suffered a more neglected life, sitting longer & reheated further. The parts of the meal that deserve zero stars is the treatment of the tortilla. It was either microwaved or not warmed at all. The tortilla lacked the grease/oil (read: flavor) and the cooked/crispy high points of a properly cooked tortilla. Also a zero star experience was the watered down salsa. A good salsa should hold together like pancake batter, not run like a kitchen faucet. I fully understand a business wants to maximize profit, but don't mislead others by dropping a 5 star review. It's still a three star meal because this is an average experience.

This BYOB taqueria is hands down one of the best restaurants I've been to in the city. When you first walk in, it's very unassuming. By now I've tried most everything on the menu and I've never been disappointed. The staff here are so sweet and if you come often enough, they might even remember your salsa preferences. I highly recommend the sopes or the chilaquiles con huevos y carne! You won't find a better spot at a better price point.

Glad something changed and things are back to normal. Food is once again delicious. Our latest go-to has been the nachos, which are loaded with ingredients and flavor.
