"Want the best tacos in town? Cases could be made for a few spots — including the Taqueria Garcia Mobil food truck just down the street from this one — but Taqueria Mixteca on Third Street is a perennial local favorite. Brave the tight and pot-holed parking lot, grab a booth in the bright and busy diner-style dining room, and stick to the classics. The carnitas tacos, with nothing more than shaved onions, chopped cilantro, and a lime wedge, are only $3.25 a piece and as good as it gets." - David Nilsen

If you only care about atmosphere, go elsewhere. This is not a fancy place, but if you want consistently delicious authentic Mexican food and great service, what are you waiting for? Dine-in our take-out, Mixteca has been providing great food to the community for many years and it only gets better with time. Newest menu has as many options as any Mexican restaurant in town, and the quality is often better.

Google
Whatever you do, don’t uber eats from this place. Charge you .45 cents for queso on the tacos meanwhile the queso is just shredded cheese out a bag. Also the tortillas not grilled at all. 0/10.

Google
Casual atmosphere. Lots of variety. Friendly service. I had a fish taco with a cheese enchilada. Came with a side of rice and refried beans. Guacamole fresh and yummy.

Google
Amazing staff , great food, and an unbeatable value .

Google
The food is good, especially the shrimp cooked to perfection 👌, but the beef in my fajitas was too thin as a meat lover. I didn't like it, so on my next visit I will try their carne asada steak, and the waiter Maria was really nice and friendly

Google
This is the authentic experience you are looking for. Affordable prices, amazing food, great staff, and also you are allowed to BYOB. I've only brought in a beer or 2 a few times but it's nice to have the option. Even my picky daughter loves this place!

Google
To start, the food was really good. The chips and salsa were the only thing we didn't care for, and charging $2.50 for more chips is absurd to me. The queso was weird..but good. Fajitas, tacos, burrito, and even my son's hamburger were all very good. His kid's plate was the size of an adult entree, my daughter's kid burrito plate was more child size portions. Our service was genuinely terrible. I'm not the type to expect anyone to roll out the red carpet for me but maybe if you could act like you don't hate my guts, that would be great. 😂 The restaurant and bathrooms both need a good deep clean and scrub. If I lived local, I'd def pick up to go orders here. They seemed to have a ton of folks doing that. Not a great dining in experience, but at least our food was good.

Google
I really enjoyed this place. The food was fantastic. I had a steak and cheese dish. It was recommended by the server. Chips and salsa were good. Service was good. I would definitely recommend this place. UPDATE: We went back again. Food was great. We tried the quesadilla and chicken and cheese. Both were good.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Mexican food in Dayton, this is the spot. The chicken gorditas were flavorful and perfectly seasoned, offering a delicious start to my meal. The beef tostadas were crispy, with tender, juicy beef and fresh toppings that hit all the right spots The tacos were the best part. The fish tacos were light and crispy, with a hint of citrus, while the carne tacos were rich and savory. The chicken tacos were just as good, with smoky, tender meat and perfectly balanced toppings The service was friendly, and the overall atmosphere had an authentic vibe. Highly recommend this place if you're craving real Mexican food done right!

Yelp
Amazing food, service, and ambiance. After just moving back to Columbus from Los Angeles, I am glad to have stumbled upon a Mexican restaurant that is so close to what I used to eat while living there. Will be back frequently.

Yelp
An absolute hidden gem in Dayton! Some of the most delicious Mexican food you will find! Even though it's a tiny little place, it's super casual and everyone is fast and friendly and will help you navigate the menu to try new things! You can let go wrong with tacos but I love try new things off of the "Authentic Mexican" section like Tortes and Sopas!

Yelp
SKIP!! I ordered a BYO Burrito and Churro through Uber Eats. The burrito had a lot of lettuce used as filler. The majority of each bite just tasted like lettuce and sour cream. The Al pastor was average. Overall, If I ate here again, I would order tacos because there shouldn't be as much filler like the burrito.

Allyson B.

Yelp
By checking in, I got a 10% discount!! The service was very fast too. I have plenty for eating later in my fridge.

Mallory L.

Yelp
The food here was really good. Unassuming spot close to downtown. The bathrooms are located outside, and you need to ask for a key from the front desk to use. We ordered the cheese dip with the chips, tacos, and tres leche cake for dessert. Only bummer was that we were wanting to redeem the yelp offer but they rang up the check too quickly for us to pull it up, and wouldn't re-ring to honor the code. Would still stop by here again.

Kate F.

Yelp
This food was absolutely amazing. I think it was the onion that sent it to the top. The jalapeños were just hot enough. Service was quick and it's a hole in the wall which I think makes the food taste 10x better but that's just probably placebo. I will go back for sure since I've been searching Dayton for a good Mexican restaurant.

Amanda S.

Yelp
Really solid, authentic tacos. One of the closest I've found to reminding me of my time in California. Carnitas were awesome, so juicy. Green salsa is elite. Will be back to try the burrito.

Stu F.

Yelp
Very good and spicy enchiladas verde. Chips and salsa were tasty with the salsa having good consistency and flavor. Rice and beans were better than average

Celia L.

Yelp
Super good and friendly staff I love it there will be going make more often can't miss this

Chris B.

Yelp
This actually is The Best Mexican Restaurant in Dayton! While we have tried many establishments around the area, this place knows what they are doing in the kitchen. This is probably the only restaurant where the chimichanga I order actually came out crispie and very tasty. Their refried beans are hand made and so so good. While my wife was devouring her fajitas and a Diet Coke, I got my favorite Jarritos Mandarin to drink with my meal. We are very much looking forward to our next meal here!

Leslie F.

Yelp
I ordered tacos a specific way due to food allergies and when I got them they weren't made correctly. I called to let them know and they said the person who made them said they made them correctly and they couldn't even apologize about it. Sadly I won't be returning

Rhonda W.

Yelp
I had bean tostada that was really good also asked it i could have a single cheese enchillada with red sauce. I shared the rice from my husbands meal ..it was a bit spicy. Food here is good. Service is good. The location is simple ... maybe a bit of a dive but it's def in a part of town we don't frequent. we were going to a nearby metro park. I would recommend it and will be back. only stopped here because the reviews were so good and it didn't steer me wrong.

Amy D.

Yelp
Definitely a hard pass. Just don't do it. The inside is small, parking is a decent size, drive thru window, and quick service. We sat down by the booth near the door which was the only seat available. The booth behind me was just terrible the kids were awful and even got nasty stuff from there fingers in my hair. The inside has approximately 10 tables and the booths are on the smaller side (if you are bigger you will have issue sitting in the booths). With this being said and it was packed 1 guy waiting for take out decided to take a 4 person table to wait on his to go order and the employees didn't ask him to move where people who was dining in could sit. The food was blah, we got taqitos (6) and they were definitely overcooked. The lengua tacos where ok not much flavor and no texture like other restaurants that throws the meat on the grill to crisp it up some. Then I did a check in when we walked in and the owner said they don't except coupons when a 10% off popped up once checked in. The best thing I can say about this place is its cheap but then again you get what you pay for. Go a little further down the street and hit up the amazing food truck on the right side if you are looking for authentic mexican

Lindsay O.

Yelp
Delicious! Got the torta and it was huge. I've been craving a churro for approximately 2 years and this churro rocked my world. Thank you Taqueria Mixteca

Susan A.

Yelp
My son and I had a fantastic lunch here. This isn't a very big or fancy place, but we had great service and the food was amazing. We both devoured the basket of warm chips with fresh delicious salsa. My pollo campechano came out sizzling on a skillet with 4 warm, soft tortillas. This dish was a wonderful combination of chicken, perfectly cooked vegetables, chorizo, and cheese. My son tried 3 different taco meats. He said each was delicious. Price was very reasonable too.

Luke C.

Yelp
Pretty good an inexpensive place for mexican food. They sell mexican style tacos here. Its a very small restaurant in East dayton with a very low key vibe. I got takeout and ordered 3 tacos as well as the ceviche tostada. The tacos were all pretty good. There were two chicken tacos and one chorizo taco. Tacos are wrapped in two corn tortillas. You get the typical cilantro and onions with these tacos, a lime, and some spicy salsa. It's a great price at about $2.5 each. The only improvement would probably to have more sauce for the meats as they seemed slightly dry. The ceviche tostada was OK. The portions were good but the fish was a little bit muddy tasting. that is probably not their specialty, so it was not as good as the tacos. I recommend this place for mexican food in Dayton

Allison H.

Yelp
Every item we have ever gotten from here has been amazing. Our favorite items- grilled shrimp, queso with beans, veggie fajitas, chimichanga, caramel churro, horchata. The service is always quick. The restaurant is always seems clean. I would say this is the best Mexican food I have ever had- and i have had a lot. This is more of a Cali-mex flavor profile.

Steph S.

Yelp
the food here is amazing!!!! super flavorful and great quality. the restaurant is clean and inviting. the service is quick and friendly. i highly recommend giving this place a try if you haven't! the beef quesa-birra is a 10/10

Barbara K.

Yelp
Hands down the best authentic Mexican restaurant in town! If you're looking for a truly unique taste of Mexico then you need look no farther than Taqueria Mixteca A truly amazing taste

Mallory P.

Yelp
While visiting Dayton/Riverside area we stopped in for lunch at this delicious spot. The service was exceptional and the food was to die for! The salsa and cheese were on the spicy side which I loved! The prices are reasonable and their Taco Tuesday deal is excellent! If we ever come back this way we would absolutely stop in again!

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
Delicious!!! This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Dayton, OH. My older brother told me about this fast food and omg ... the best!

Scott F.

Yelp
So good I had to take some back home with me to Cleveland. Nice clean place with Great attentive service

Robert N.

Yelp
Great Food I always get a Burrito or the Monster Burrito Fresh Ingredients and always fresh food. The Burrito with Grilled Chicken is my personal favorite cooked to perfection I probably finish my Burrito in three minutes on average!

Andrew G.

Yelp
I've been a customer of Taqueria Mixteca in Dayton for years. I always get take away. The building is an old gas station, and would qualify as a "hole in the wall" if it were not for the friendly staff and amazing Mexican food. This is not Mexican food you get at all the chain restaurants. This is Mexican food that you would get if you were invited to someone's home in Mexico (as I am told by a friend that should know). I always start with the mini beef tacos, which consist of finely ground seasoned beef, cilantro, two corn tortillas, and a lime wedge. They never make it home as I consume them as I dangerously drive with my knee on the steering wheel. You'll love the food and the people. I recommend checking out the menu online, otherwise you will have a hard time deciding what to order because many of the items you might not have heard of before.

Joe B.

Yelp
It is a great little hole in the Wall. The food is probably the best mexican food I have had since we moved out here

Bud W.

Yelp
Excellent food!! Great service! I've tried many different items on the menu and never been disappointed! Table salsa is consistently good. I like the tacos and carne asada plate!

Darriell B.

Yelp
Everytime me and my boyfriend come here the food is fresh and even better with every trip. Their birria tacos are our favorite in the city!

Jan K.

Yelp
Fair prices, good service, fresh food, and their chips and salsa are my favorite of any Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten at. Getting to watch an AUDI drive over a parking barrier only added to the charm. Will be returning often!

Sam F.

Yelp
Food was amazing from the hard shell tacos to the queso I would definitely come back to this restaurant and enjoy something new

Patti H.

Yelp
My go to place for delicious food and service! I recommend Taqueria Mixteca to all people who like authentic Mexican food.

Geneva M.

Yelp
I love tacos this looks really good im hury but i dont have the money wish i couldif i have the money I wd for sure

Tiara M.

Yelp
Tacos were subpar. I had the chicken it was a little dry. Shrimp taco were good, I would go back for those. Taco birria was not good.

Angeleah W.

Yelp
Five stars every single time! Five stars every single time! I've loved them since they opened and their original location is the best.

Daniel D.

Yelp
For the price this is the best Mexican food in Dayton. Love it and will be back again and again.

Michael H.

Yelp
With Yelp! and DoorDash helping me to find tons of great new restaurants I sometimes forget m old favorites. I can't believe it's been weeks since I had Taqueria Mixteca. I'm happy to report it's still stellar. No matter what I get here I always get the verde or green sauce. It makes my mouth so happy. Aficionados will appreciate the menudo, tripe, and tongue. I'm nuts about the chorizo. If you care about decor or ambiance you'll never bring yourself to park in this neighborhood and that's ok. If you're like me and only care about fresh delicious food prepared by passionate cooks you have to get here.

Burgandy U.

Yelp
To whoever is reading this I think not only is this one of the best Mexican restaurant in Dayton but the food is absolutely fresh delicious and I've never had more than like a 5 minute wait on it. I've tried things for the first time I can't even pronounce. Order chimichanga enchilada with red or green sauce if you wanna try something different not just taco or burrito this is the place to try it at. The pile of nachos looked so good I wanted to snatch one off a strangers plate. The seafood salad civeche or whatever they call it had plenty of seafood in it. I can't say enough things about this place for the restaurants Around it probably doing bad because of how good it is. Their staff is also very polite and professional and speak bilingual. You will enjoy this place because whenever I pass by I have to stop in and order something. Oh yeah I took some churro home last time and rice and beans an my 2 year old tore up them rice and beans I forgot the churro put in the fridge. For a few days I was hesitant to eat the churro sitting in my fridge one morning I heat in the air fryer. Boom! Good as new. If you still need to read the rest of the review what you doing start your engines and get to know their food... what are you still reading this standing around for?! Btw I'm pretty sure this review is for that restaurant across from Dayton pawn shop

John M.

Yelp
The outside of this place would have you drive by without so much as a second glance. Really, it just screams "nothing to see here, keep moving along." The inside offers perhaps less ambiance than the exterior. However, the true strength of this establishment is not in the ambiance of its exterior or interior, but rather in their food and the tacos at this place are pretty much amazing. The carne asada tacos were very good and something that I would definitely recommend. I would definitely recommend this place. Yes, it looks a little rough, but remember the adage that the best tacos come from the worse neighborhoods. Tacos are not high class, they are a food created by humble people and yet prepared with such passion that tacos are one of my favorite foods upon this planet. Come check them out for yourself.

Amanda R.

Yelp
It's been hit or miss lately but overall a great place for some authentic mexican food

Norma H.

Yelp
Best Mexican restaurant in town! Staff are friendly, reasonably priced and a relaxing atmosphere. You have to try the pozole it's the best.

Stephen P.

Yelp
Amazing food! Lovely staff! Relaxing atmosphere! Do yourself a favor and check it out!

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Great northern Mexican dishes & tacos. Quality flavors -- what more do you need? Love the Shrimp Diabla or the Shrimp tacos, it's all good.

Angela R.

Yelp
Great authentic food! Awesome service! Clean restrooms! I would highly suggest to friends!

Mollie B.

Yelp
This place is always great. Ordered on doordash a few times and the order was always correct and tastes amazing

Carrie S.

Yelp
Best authentic Mexican in Dayton. Can't go wrong with street tacos. Highly recommend queso too. But beware of the burritos. They taste great but are the biggest around.

Adam G.

Yelp
Delicious, it reminds me of when I would visit Baja Mexico. They don't overdo the tacos and keep it simple which is lovely. There's definitely a difference between the meats and what they do the best. I advise the carnitas. Their weekend soups are delicious as well! Chips weren't great and I'm more of a super spicy salsa type of guy. They only have small cups for the spicy salsa (which is to die for!).

Rachel H.

Yelp
This is the garlic shrimp... I forget what it's called in Spanish. SLAPS SLAPS SLAPS!! the service is ran by the matriarchs of the family. service is just enough but the love in the food more then makes up for it. No frills a hard working family with good recipes!! God love ethnic grandmas

Herschel C.

Yelp
One of our favorite lunch spots on our visit! We ate there 3 times. Very good food and fast service

Cristine D.

Yelp
My daughter and I stopped here for lunch while in Dayton. It was spicy but so good! I had rice, fajita chicken topped with queso cheese. Spivey queso but oh so good! Everyone was so nice, polite and on point!
