While attending an event in Homestead, I decided to seek out an authentic Mexican restaurant, well aware of the area's reputation for such cuisine. After consulting one of my favorite blogs, Taqueria Morelia was the recommendation I couldn't resist, and it truly lived up to the hype.
The restaurant's location, attached to a gas station, was initially a bit confusing. However, it turned out that parking was conveniently situated behind the restaurant near the pumps. Once inside, the cozy interior transported me to Mexico. The ambiance, filled with the sounds, aromas, and flavors of Mexico, felt incredibly authentic.
The food, which clearly exuded a labor of love, was nothing short of amazing. Each dish boasted bold, comforting flavors that I'd been craving. As we settled in, we were greeted with freshly made chips and salsa, a testament to the restaurant's commitment to quality.
Taqueria Morelia offers a self-serve toppings bar, featuring an array of salsas ranging from mild to super spicy, along with limes, radishes, cucumbers, onions, jalapenos, cilantro, and more. Our order included Birria tacos, an Alambre, and a side of rice and beans for sharing. The Birria tacos, in particular, stood out, oozing authenticity and flavor, accompanied by a rich consommé. The Alambre was equally delightful, complemented by homemade tortillas.
One aspect I found less pleasing was the absence of included sides with the main dishes, which necessitated separate orders. However, the sides, including rice and beans, were delicious in their own right.
In terms of service, our initial server left something to be desired, coming across as a bit rude in responding to our inquiries, which left me feeling rushed when ordering. However, the service provided by Nelly, who checked on us multiple times, more than made up for it. She was a sweet, elderly lady whose warmth and attentiveness made the dining experience feel reminiscent of a meal at a grandmother's house.
All in all, Taqueria Morelia left me with a memorable culinary experience. The food was exceptional, and if I ever find myself in Homestead again, I won't hesitate to head straight to this hidden gem.
