Google
been going to ultimo taco for years. one of the best taco places. They are open late and for the most part, always fresh. I usually order coca cola Mexicana, limonada, frijoles especiales, bistec tacos, tripa Dorada, or the pirata tacos. I have gone for all time frames and they are always busy. I have taken visitors from out of state and the place always impresses. back in the olden days, it was known as the fight club after midnight lol. Curbside ordering is pretty quick. I've called several times and they either don't answer or put you on hold and never return. they are very efficient for delivery drivers as well. Overall, it's a great place. One of the only complaints I have is they only have 1 restroom for men and one for women. lol

Google
This place is great for tacos, but it is always packed. The seating area inside is tight and small, so if you don't like feeling elbow to elbow with the other customers, you can sit outside or get it to go. I recommend to go. But be warned. The food to go is usually smashed together and not as pretty to look at as when you dine in. The service is great. The limonada is so delcious. But I don't like the drinks that you can't get refills. You have to pay for a new drink each time. That's with all the drinks since the sodas are cans. But the tacos, tortas, chalupas, and quesadillas are so good. You can get a quesa birria torta or taco. The best!!! You have a great option of meats and a variety of tacos served on corn or flour tortillas in various ways. You can't go wrong with any item on the menu, and they are open until 2am!! Even better for those late nights.

Google
I ordered 4 tacos. Dos de tripa dorada on tortillas de maiz, uno de barbacoa on flour y uno de desebrado on flour. The tripa was way to dorado to enjoy fully. Everything else was so good though. I also ordered frijoles especiales. I tried a few others from local taquerias & Ultimo has The BEST ones! The limonada was refreshing as well & not too sweet. My cousin & kids ordered as well & a few items they forgot to bring out because they didn't take the order right. Overall I'd go back but will skip on the tripa tacos.

Google
Update.....lost stars was 5 across until after meal. So, unfortunately, I came in to edit after waiting an ungodly amount of time for my surver to take our money. Finally, I gave up and went up front. I'm not sure if you're supposed to pay up front. No one said anything. Lots of other tables sat there, confused about how to pay. Update #2 Food is still great and the begining of service is amazing....until it's time to get the check.....then nothing.....we just sit there endlessly until, for the second time in a row, we gave up and went and found someone to please take our money so we can leave.....what the heck man! For the love of God, someone please explain that tips are better if you take our money while we're full and happy instead of full and irritated for waiting.... Og post below was before the meal was over... Wow! I did not anticipate how much I was going to like the food here. Hands down the best food I've had in Brownsville. It gets packed and for good reason. It's clean and well kept. I don't speak or read any Spanish, and the server was very kind and quick to help me with anything I couldn't figure out. Menu is in a mix of Spanish and English. Beans are way better than anything I've had in town. Meat is cooked to perfection. Nothing is too greasy. I will 100% come back here.

Google
The food was good. The only problem is if you dine in. The wait staff were eating pastries and drinking drinks and placing the items where the sodas are being refrigerated (see photo) and the tub they use to put dirty dishes was on top of a cat with canned sodas that is sold to customers. There are only 2 restrooms (1 person at a time) for a place that holds 50 customers, plus staff and it was locked. I saw the wait staff wearing latex gloves but Never changed them the whole time when they cleaned and served food to the next customer. I was there for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Finally the cashier was on her phone looking at tik tok for 5 minutes noting noticing me until a waitress came and said thank you for coming. It's not a good place for dining in. This is the restaurant that won Best taqueria in the RGV on channel 23 News a year ago. No food safety is being practiced there.

Literally, I had a life changing horchata here. The food was superb and the place left like a local staple. Would recommend

Yelp
The food was the best Mexican I've had. Birria tacos were fire! Service was mediocre with the language barrier but Louis was helpful and awesome compared to our server. Ambiance was fun for the kids with the birds on the patio.
google avatar

Gina R.

Yelp
The place was clean. We got sat promptly. Small Place though. The language barrier was rough but not because the server spoke Spanish, he wasn't listening. We speak Spanish lol. My husband ordered a torta of asada with melted cheese and he got non melted cheese. The torta was boring to look at, it did not look appealing. I ordered the beef flautas which were excellent. I also ordered 2 asada tacos on corn and one on flour with onions and cilantro which were very good. There was a choice of 3 salsas. All tasty. When we arrived we were immediately asked if we wanted beans and we said sure. The servers question came across as if the beans were complimentary but to our surprise they were not. $2 for plain beans. Nonetheless the place is reasonable priced and good for that price.

Yelp
This place was a total happy accident for us on a trip to South Padre Island. We spent the day visiting the turtles on Padre, hanging out at the beach and then back at the pool at the hotel. Ya'll know how it is after being out in the water all day, you just want something cold to drink and some comfort food. We originally had a chain restaurant in mind, but missed the exit and upon making a U-turn, we saw this place. It is located right off the highway, pretty close to the boarder. Parking was tight and the place was packed around late dinner time. Luckily we were seated right away and given menus. Be aware, the language barrier is real here. Nobody (atleast everyone we dealt with) spoke English. The menu was in Spanish as well. No biggie for me. Hablo muy poco español. I can order tacos for sure! The menu isn't large, You basically have tacos, flautas and tortas to choose from. I wasn't made at this menu at all. The prices were insanely cheap as well. I don't think I saw anything over 7 bucks. Everyone in my party went with tacos. Tacos de harina to be exact. I knew that meant tacos on flour tortillas so I went with that. I know I may get some slack for not getting it on corn, but I like what I like. I ordered a variety of different things like bistek, al pastor and barbacoa. I like mine with cilantro and onion as it should come. They had a variety of salsas as well. These tacos were amazing. I knew being this close to the border and the amount of people in here meant I was in for the real deal and that is exactly what I got. Don't sleep on the charro beans here either. Delicious! If you can look past the language barrier and the not so fancy setting, you should definitely check this spot out. I know I will pop in next time I am in the valley.

Yelp
The best food ever! Service was quick and dishes are reasonably priced. One of my favorite stops every time I'm in Brownsville.

Yelp
I'm trying to hit up all the best tacos down in the valley before I move back up north and El Ultimo Taco Taqueria has set the bar high!! We came in during lunch hour and the weather was perfect so we were able to quickly be seated in the spacious patio area. The server was friendly and brought out our food quickly. They started us off with complimentary charro beans which was so hot and flavorful! The quesatacos were LOADEDD with meat and cheese! Each bite was a flavor explosion that I kept wanting more of despite feeling full. If you want the juiciest meat with the best cheese pulls these do not disappoint. The bistec tacos and my friend's mulitas were great too, but I'll definitely come back here just for the quesatacos!
google avatar

Laura O.

Yelp
Frijoles especiales are a must have - my favorite item on the menu. The tacos were really good as well - I enjoyed the birria tacos the most. My family of four ordered, flautas, tacos pirata y tacos gringo, tacos de bistec, al pastor, birria, y barbacoa, and mulita. There were no leftovers - everything was so good!
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Amazing tacos. Super filling as well, they didn't skimp on the meat and topping. The bean soup was also amazing. Will be back!
google avatar

Felix G.

Yelp
You want badass local food. Come here! Eat here and F the rest!. 85 character review is not as easy as it sounds.

Yelp
WHAT A GEM! If I post a review thats because I feel it's worthy to share and the food is spectacular! So el ultimo taco is in the heart of Brownsville,TX. My family and I ate there twice in one day. Before and after the beach calls for great delicious food. The food definitely has an authentic taste. The ambiance is just like mom's house. And the service and prices are perfect! As seen in the picture I ordered a loaded tostada and three corn tocos with bistec. You have options to add all you want. Before the food came out I enjoyed a bowl of charro beans! My lord! The sazon is there and my taste buds were loving it all! I highly recommend this place. Your pocket will also he happy! You can thank me later!

Yelp
Me encantan estos tacos 100% recomendados . Comida : muy rica con una variedad de tacos a elegir Servicio : bien Ambiente : agradable

Yelp
. This is IT ! Looked good on Yelp, then my hotel's staff recommended highly. Went, found crowds hanging off railings. Big parking lot almost full. Used their curb service waiter, all good. The tacos are small and very tasty. Barbacoa & avocado 4 stars, chicharrones 5+. This place has GREAT food, fair prices, good accompaniments. Don't you dare miss this little jewel ! I lived in Brownsville for years, and don't recall any better taquitos here. Quit looking and go to El Ultimo Taco NOW ! Rick .

Yelp
Outstanding...the flavor, the pricing and the quick service. Easy to see - and taste - why it wins all those awards. Highly recommended.

Yelp
The wait is LONG. Be ready for a wait or call in your order. The service also takes a while but the food is worth it. I ordered charro beans, 2 bistek tacos & one gringa (pastor) For 3 people at 11pm, the wait was 30 minutes and total wait time for food was about 45 min If you're really hungry be sure to order the beans, they come before your meal

Daniel C.

Yelp
Some of the best tacos I've ever had this side of the border. They're true to their origin in terms of flavor. The flavor of all the ingredients is fresh and savory. The service was good too with friendly staff. All in all I will be back again, whenever that is since I'm visiting. The price is also a plus, none of that overpriced tacos that are more Americanized than authentic tacos

Miguel M.

Yelp
Service was great. They were very prompt. Unfortunately the Birria tacos were greasy, the tripa tacos were way too overseasoned, and the chicharrón tacos was like pulled pork. My daughter loved the bistec today though, but here horchata was watered down. Way watered down. It's like they cooked the meat in the morning and have it in a pan ready to be served throughout the day. So as far as fresheness, I think they failed the mark here. We're going to try other spots. I've had better tacos at taco trucks. But as far as they price for the tacos here, very affordable, but the quality wasn't it for me here.
google avatar

Krystal M.

Yelp
Is there a way to give this place 6 stars?! What about purchasing a franchise?! This place was UH MAZING! We ate here on a Sunday or Monday. We were told that the way it would be about 35 minutes, but we're seated within 10 to 15 minutes. The hostess was super kind; & the place was jumping! The waitress got our drinks and food pretty quickly. One thing that stood out was fast service. The food stood out more, though! Every single taco that we had was absolutely amazing my husband and father both really liked the tripas tacos. I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong with any food here!
google avatar

Summer C.

Yelp
You have to try the frijoles especiales! They usually ask if you want some when you sit down. They also have good authentic tacos with many different options. We enjoy having the option to sit outside on the patio. Prices are reasonable as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Food so good it made nut so good so good so good food it the salsa its good too be true
google avatar

Blake G.

Yelp
Amazing taco joint. Always busy, and the food is great! Even for town that is on the border of Mexico, this place stands out.
google avatar

Romy G.

Yelp
This is where tacos go when they die. The quesatacos are life changing. They were that good. Every hot sauce is a hit. The beans are sublime. Absolutely go here.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
Everything about this place was perfect! The food was flavorful, The service was prompt and super nice, and the ambiance was casual and clean! Probably one of the best tortas I've had in a very long time! The frijoles especiales are a must! Will definitely return in the future!

Ana R.

Yelp
Tacos were ok. Service was ok. Nothing too wonderful to share. I would try again to see if other dishes are better.
google avatar

Serena S.

Yelp
The definition of a hole-in-the-wall taqueria. The frijoles especiales and EVERY SINGLE taco on the menu is absolutely delicious. I found it difficult to find a good birria taco in the valley, but this place knows how to make it just right!
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
Ultimo Taco NEVER disappoints. HIGHLY recommend their tacos de bistek and the Frijoles Especiales. I generally order to-go and have not had any issues with my orders. Enjoy!
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Really great tacos and they even had a gringo menu for us winter Texans. Outstanding value and quality. The barbacoa was really good
google avatar

Jeaux D.

Yelp
Working in Brownsville and asked a local coworker where to eat. El Ultimo Taco was the immediate response. I had already consulted Yelp and knew it had great reviews so who was I to argue. We arrived around 4 pm on a Monday. The lot was packed. Only one spot was available save the two to-go order spots at the front door. A small dining area with about 15 tables. A two top was the only table available. We were in luck because dos hombres we were. We were told to take the table and we complied. The patrons looked all locally grown. It was loud but guys don't need conversation anyway. Lots of good times happening inside. A waitress slapped down a couple menus then said something incomprehensible in Spanish. I looked wide eyed at my friend as if to say, "Did you catch that?" He didn't but was much quicker than I and said, "agua?" She glanced back at me and I just nodded sheepishly. She walked away and immediately returned with a hand written piece of paper. An English menu for the two Gringos that explained a few terms (i.e., Taco Gringo - white man taco, tripa = guts). Mmmmm mmmm. A minute later a young lady, presumably the waitress" daughter, arrived at the table wanting to take our order. Our first waitress didn't have time for our nonsense and sent in the liaison. It all looked great so I asked the young lady to bring me 5 tacos of her choice (expecting an assortment). My compadre was now the one nodding and asked for the same. Five minutes later, a rectangular plate arrived with 5 tacos. All the same. (Well you should have specified if you wanted something else amigo. Right? ). I'm not sure exactly but I believe it was the Mulitas because they were fried. I took a bite and was glad I had cuatro mas. The soft fried tortilla held a pocket full of flavorful beef and cheese. A side plate of sautéed onions were the perfect accompanying flavor. It was the ultimate taco. I was pretty sure. Or at very least a dang good one. Three different sauces on your table to put a little zip to each one too. I would definitely return to try a different taco. What a great spot for a great taco at an excellent price. Give this little place a try. You won't be disappointed. Make sure you are fluent in Spanish if you don't want the Gringo menu. Bon appetit Yelpers.

Lisa A.

Yelp
Their prices are comparable to other similar establishments, and their servings are generous (they really stuff those little tacos), but I wasn't all that impressed with the food, service nor the cleanliness of the restaurant. The meat had a weirdly, strong, meaty flavor more reminiscent of pot roast than tacos and the grilled onions lacked the deep caramelization and intense savoriness that I have come to expect. The charro beans were my favorite part of the meal - perfectly cooked with a nice balance of flavors and less fat than is common. However it wasn't enough to warrant a return visit.
google avatar

Smiley L.

Yelp
Food is good tacos de bistec and the charro beans too always good . You can even order the tacos half trompo half bistec awsome

Luz T.

Yelp
Ordered quesatacos de birria and the frijoles especiales. Everything was absolutely delicious! Had a variety of salsas which made the tacos even more tasty. Price was also very good for the amount of food. No pic because it stood no chance

Many H.

Yelp
I like mexican food and this is the best I have ever had. It's always busy but they serve quick. It worths every penny. It added to my must visit list next time I travel by again.
google avatar

Dena T.

Yelp
Best tacos I've ever eaten!!!! So delicious for a great price! I had 2 queso tacos, 4 regular tacos, and a side of consumé for less than $14. The only reason why I'm given it 4 stars rather than 5 is because the service isn't the best and I've came here multiple times. But definitely the best taco place in Texas!
google avatar

Miguel R.

Yelp
Hands down the best tacos in Brownsville! Yelp got this one right! Just about everything you order here is amazing. I recommend going with the queso tacos de Birra. Dont forget the charro beans.

Jeremy C.

Yelp
Great food TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!! I ordered 3 tacos and a coke at 8:46 over the phone and the quoted me 20 minutes. I arrived and paid at 8:55. At 9:42 they finally brought out my food. Lukewarm at best and to top it off they had it sitting there with an ice cold coke inside the same bag which made my tacos even colder.
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Excellent tacos. Difficult to communicate if you are not a Spanish speaker though. I had wanted a few things, but I only received some of my order. What I did get however was excellent. Prices are very inexpensive for such good quality.

Isabel G.

Yelp
This is the place to get traditional tacos like in Mexico. You have the variety to choose from steak, barbacoa and even birria tacos. We always take friend and family from out of town to this taqueria simply because it's the best.

Francisco R.

Yelp
Really good taqueria friendly people. Food was hot and tacos were delicious.highly recommended

Ernest K.

Yelp
I love this food & it was goood balance & they are friendly and fast what I need food & drink & they are fast serving and cooking. I love it! I recommend yall!
google avatar

Jolee S.

Yelp
Prdered from this spot because Mr tacos was closed and I wanted more than just a taco. Ordered the tortas twice and was not disappointed. They were delicous even though they were on the smaller side. They packed a flavorful punch. The hot sauce was hot too which was nice

Cindy R.

Yelp
Their tacos and tostadas are so delicious! Wish we had one in McAllen or Edinburg. Service is fast even though it's always packed.
google avatar

Jenn F.

Yelp
Yummmmmmmmm just go!!!!! So good plan on returning to this restaurant when I am in the area to eat again, so good. quesatacos mmm the best.... Lemonade mmmm can't wait to eat here again.
google avatar

Eloy G.

Yelp
Visited this place on a recommendation from a local and they were not wrong. This place had really good tasting street tacos, all of the different choices of tacos were amazing. I had birria tacos, bistec, molleja, and a pirata taco ! Wow all of them had excellent taste, fresh ingredients and were just on point when it came the flavor. The beans especial were also awesome and could be a meal on its own with all the ingredients they had in them. This is definitely a place you want to visit if you are ever here.
google avatar

Victor L.

Yelp
Food was really good and great customer service . The food didnt take long to come out and it was very well temperatured.
google avatar

Fidel B.

Yelp
Delicious tacos! Meat was tender and seasoned well. Corn are a bit too greasy, but you can get them cooked on the Comal or flour.
google avatar

Yvonne P.

Yelp
Hands down, El Último taco is 'The' best taco joint in Brownsville! Why? You may ask...It's The best taco place to go to in The Valley without crossing the border to Matamoros, Mexico...where their flavors match the delicious tacos only found on one side of the border...and that's what makes them, Oh sooo special. This place is always packed so sit tight because you'll be waiting there a minute. Customer service and cleanliness is exemplary, orders of tacos come out in no time. Charro beans are so authentic you won't be able to get over it...Ever! It's the reason people keep coming back for more...along with toppings you get on the tacos, grilled onions, salsas, lime wedges and queso fresco. Adding avocado is extra. What more could you ask for?! 'Último taco' will be the last and only taco stand standing...living up to their name. Makes me wish they had more locations, but unfortunately they don't. Bummer! They have inside and outside seating. Don't miss out on trying out the King of all taco stands of the Valley, if you don't...you ARE seriously missing out! If I could give them an extra star I would on their authentically delicious Mexican flavors on this side of the border! Que rrrrico!
google avatar

Ricardo Q.

Yelp
The service is slow and deficient. But the tacos and flautas are OK. Despise the limited menu, you'll always find somethinhg We
google avatar

Yasuyo T.

Yelp
I came with a group of colleagues. Many waiters do not speak but they are super friendly. The size of taco is very small. I think it is normal size for Mexican standard. I had 5 of tacos Bistech and Mollja. Both are beef. Mollja is neck portion of beef. Those were so fresh and not oily at all. Also I had Grapefruit soda that was so refreshing. I would highly recommend this place to try when you are in Brownsville.
google avatar

Rafael W.

Yelp
Street tacos with a great variety and the fresh lemonade is a must try. It can get busy but the service is great.
google avatar

Janet M.

Yelp
Love love love this place! Best place in Brownsville! Food is always excellent. Try the bean soup it is so incredible!
google avatar

Lillyvette M.

Yelp
Yum! This is a great little spot to come and get a few tacos and a beef sandwich! Yep -- sandwich! We actually thought we had ordered a tostada (a la Taco Bell), but it ended up being an amazing sandwich with beef, cheese, avocado, and cilantro! We also got a side of sautéed onions -- that automatically came with our order. I got a lemonade and my hubs got a strawberry lemonade -- both were tasty! 8 tacos and two huge sandwiches were $23. Not bad! We left a hefty tip because the service as super fast and friendly!
