This place was a total happy accident for us on a trip to South Padre Island. We spent the day visiting the turtles on Padre, hanging out at the beach and then back at the pool at the hotel. Ya'll know how it is after being out in the water all day, you just want something cold to drink and some comfort food. We originally had a chain restaurant in mind, but missed the exit and upon making a U-turn, we saw this place. It is located right off the highway, pretty close to the boarder. Parking was tight and the place was packed around late dinner time. Luckily we were seated right away and given menus. Be aware, the language barrier is real here. Nobody (atleast everyone we dealt with) spoke English. The menu was in Spanish as well. No biggie for me. Hablo muy poco español. I can order tacos for sure!
The menu isn't large, You basically have tacos, flautas and tortas to choose from. I wasn't made at this menu at all. The prices were insanely cheap as well. I don't think I saw anything over 7 bucks. Everyone in my party went with tacos. Tacos de harina to be exact. I knew that meant tacos on flour tortillas so I went with that. I know I may get some slack for not getting it on corn, but I like what I like. I ordered a variety of different things like bistek, al pastor and barbacoa. I like mine with cilantro and onion as it should come. They had a variety of salsas as well. These tacos were amazing. I knew being this close to the border and the amount of people in here meant I was in for the real deal and that is exactly what I got. Don't sleep on the charro beans here either. Delicious!
If you can look past the language barrier and the not so fancy setting, you should definitely check this spot out. I know I will pop in next time I am in the valley.
