Taqueria Xochi - Review - Navy Yard - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Taqueria Xochi, one of our favorite late night spots, just opened a new location in Navy Yard. Unlike at the take-out only U Street location, this one is dine-in, which is great news for everyone who desperately needs a place to eat a quesabirria at 9pm on a Tuesday." - Omnia Saed

The D.C.-Area Restaurant Openings You Should Know About This November | Eater DC

"Regional Mexican favorites like crispy Milanesa-filled cemitas, huge tlayudas, and tacos spanning lengua to nopales finally have the roomy setting they deserve at this Navy Yard outpost. Twice the size of the Crystal City restaurant, it’s the first D.C. location with a full bar, introducing margaritas and horchata Mai Tais, and it runs 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily." - Emily Venezky

Great casual taqueria! The cocktails were tasty and the food was delicious! I especially enjoyed the al pastor torta. The beef quesabirria was very good but very rich - I wouldn't have been able to eat all three but it was perfect to split with my husband. Next time I'd get the birria taco. And who doesn't love cheese fries!! The fries are cooked and seasoned to perfection.

Among the best tacos in Washington, D.C. are at Taqueria Xochi and now they have a location in Navy Yard. Next to Bluejacket, this taco spot is spacious and comes with a surprisingly robust cocktail list too. Walk in and order at one of their tablet stations or just sit down and scan the QR code on the table. Within minutes, your food comes. I enjoyed the elote since it's literally corn, mayo, and cheese. Mix it together. It's full of flavor. The birria nachos were filling and comes with a dip. The Mexican hot chocolate was among the best in the city.

Absolutely phenomenal. The food is incredibly fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared — you can tell everything is made with real care. The birria is rich and tender, the salsas are bright without being overpowering, and the tortillas taste like they were just made moments before hitting your plate. Service is friendly and fast, even during busy hours, and the team clearly takes pride in what they’re doing. The space is clean, the vibe is relaxed, and it’s the perfect place to stop for a quick lunch or to bring friends who appreciate legitimately great Mexican food. If you’re anywhere near Navy Yard, go. This is easily one of the best casual eats in the neighborhood. Highly recommend.

Stopped by after work for a quick happy hour, and had such a great time! The Jamaica (not like the country… [ha-my-kah! It means hibiscus!] margarita was so, good. A little floral, a little sweet, and just the right amount of tart. We had a little taste of their Paloma which is also really easy and delicious. The medium salsa is really nice! A little smoky, and very flavorful. The tacos were good too, and all around, we will be back. Very excited to see this new place and hope they thrive here!

Had the pleasure of trying the newest Xochi location the other day and it did not disappoint. The drinks at this location are incredible—they really elevated the beverage program despite already having a strong one at the other locations. The TV’s make this a great spot to catch a game. Highly recommend.

Big fans of Taqueria Xochi. We are so happy to have them in the neighborhood. Excellent food. Great dine-in or takeout! We always enjoy the Al Pastor and Shroom tacos. The happy hour is great.

Strawberry and spicy margaritas were very good. Overall really enjoyed the atmosphere. Unfortunately our party waited close to an hour & a half for their order. We asked 4 different individuals updates and were not given any help. Finally I asked for a refund (which we were given). Would consider going back but not our first option in Navy Yard.

This could easily be a 5 with minor adjustments. The food and service 5/5 but the ordering process and glassware/cutlery 2/5. The menu is extensive with great and tasty options, the happy hour is also a plus. However having the QR option as the only option is unfortunate- not everyone has wants to use their phone to order or pay right away. I know things are changing but it took a long time to get through the menu on a small device and what if my phone was dead, new or I just wanted to eat and only had cash. ACCESSIBILITY is not only tech forward. Businesses should operate for all types of customers especially in a fast casual space. Which brings me to the next point, the cutlery and glassware -plastic and not the good kind. Hard plastic water cups and sturdy forks and knives would go a long way. Not an environmental stickler, though it’s important it was more about the overall experience and atmosphere. The dinner service was dark and warm really cool and the cocktail was delicious- served like a proper bar would but the small details like the plastic water cup and plastic cup took things down a notch. My advice- spend a little more on the glassware and cutlery. Print a couple of paper menus and allow ordering from the waiter and cash payments PLEASE.
