The 14 Essential San Antonio Restaurants

"The casual Dellview restaurant offers a speedy diner experience with a streamlined menu. This taco pit stop grew from a taco stand and serves one thing: Jalisco-style street tacos stuffed with a selection of meats including al pastor, brisket, and lengua on corn tortillas. The counter-service indoor dining room is open until midnight every night, and until very early morning on weekends, making it a popular spot for late-night taco cravings." - Polly Anna Rocha, Ben Gonzalez

An Illustrated Guide to San Antonio’s Most Important Taco Styles | Eater Austin

"When I want al pastor from a taqueria rather than a truck, I go to Taquitos West Avenue, where they famously offer al pastor Thursday through Sunday; the tacos come as the classic trompo-sliced pork served with onions, cilantro, and lime." - Polly Anna Rocha

Late‑night, Mexico City‑style mini tacos off the trompo and plancha, with suadero, tripas, and al pastor. Regularly praised by the San Antonio Express‑News for value, vibe, and a pure street‑taquería experience.

Best tacos in San Antonio! 100 % most Flavorful tacos! By far the Bistek tacos the best of the bunch. We all liked the green salsa over the red, not too spicy. Excellent variety. You line up to order, get the tacos and enjoy! There was always a line (noon) so a better planning or setting could’ve helped, as the line is literally between the chairs and tables. Metal round seats are not comfortable. But honestly the tacos are worth it! Must try!

So yummy and so unique! Very fast paced so be ready when you get to order. They don’t care about what type of tacos you get, just the number so — in full honesty — count the number of tacos you get vs. order. We ordered 10 but got 8 — so make sure you order correctly. The place is overwhelmingly clean and very friendly staff! Cheers to this San Antonio Establishment — heartbeat of the city!

We found Taquitos West Avenue on a best-of-San Antonio Reddit post, and it lived up to, maybe even exceeded, the hype! Rolled in around 3pm on a Thursday and didn't wait long. You order first, get seats, then pay on your way out (option to order more from the table). We started with 3 suadero (brisket), 3 al pastor, 1 cabeza and 1 tripas. The al pastor and tripas were our favorites, and we ordered 2 more each after. We've had street tacos in LA and San Diego, but the flavor and meat to tortilla ratio on Taquitos' tacos was rhe best. 12 tacos and a soda between two people came out to 30.26$. The staff were so friendly and helpful. There's some parking around the building; people are in and out pretty fast. Wish we had an extra day in SA just to have another meal here!

Service is really good and fast!! You order your tacos at an open kitchen window were you can see a huge trompo of Al Pastor!! You have your tacos on the spot! I ordered carne asada and Al Pastor, they didn't have carnitas which was a bummer. They had a red salsa and a green timatillo salsa, the green was better, but both not hot, could of used a little hotter salsa, did like the limes and radish it's served with! Al pastor was great, sift, flavorful and juicy meat! Carne asada Steak was kind of bland, average steak taco but still ok. I would definitely go back, quick, good, good service and fast! Recommend the AL PASTOR!!!

No complaints! The meat was tender and flavored well. The salsas were tasty. The service was normal and nothing special. The restaurant was clean for the most part and had a good amount of seating. I would definitely come back here whenever I’m in San Antonio and craving some solid tacos!

Wow, what amazing food! My son and family LOVE this place and I now agree. We ordered take out of 4 plates of 5 tacos, two steak and two Al Pastor. They were yummy and plentiful, filled with lots meat, topped with onion and cilantro and came with cucumber, radishes and lemon slices on the side. It also came with a side of grilled onion and both green and red salsa, both of which have a bit of a kick. I look forward to having their food again sometime!

The mini tacos are Jalisco, Mexico style. You get the tacos with any meat choice available. I got the pastor (best I’ve had anywhere!) and the tripas (cooked so well with right amount of crisp and softness). It feels like you are in a food truck with the metal sheet walls, but there are tables to sit. The restrooms were designed beautifully and clean. This is a must try when in San Antonio!
